Streaming Services Chart Discussion
Well, I think it normally lasts 2 weeks? Hozier for example, seems like it had it in weeks 3 and 4 where he got to over 900,000, and now it's finished and he's back down to 700,000. For Sabrina it looks like it's happened in weeks 2 and 3 so I would expect if it follows a similar pattern it will fall to around 800,000 next week, and I guess another song will be chosen to replace it. At least that's what it seems like is happening anyway. If so, at least it'll make the #1 turnover a bit faster lol.

I think Fortnight could probably be a hit, at least like Is It Over Now.

Morgan Wallen has a song in his album which seems to be based on Lifestyle by Rich Gang which I find hilarious. As for Taylor Swift, I have always wondered what would happen if a female pop star released tons of music constantly like Drake, etc. does and it seems to be working out really well for her, and I don't think the album being long will hurt her, probably the opposite.

Zara Larsson always got insanely good Spotify playlisting. I think maybe because she's Swedish she got better treatment. But I don't exactly expect her to be like "Stop playlisting me so much, it's not fair". You've just got to accept it and be thankful. Major Lazer as well, and Cheerleader. I think those songs were mostly hits because of Spotify. But it's always been like that, lots of songs were hits just because Global Radio (Capital FM, etc.) or Radio 1 playlisted them, so it's not really much different with Spotify playlists.

That's true, but New Rules and Levitating were like the 5th singles (and both post-album), so there's a chance that can happen again.

Streaming Services Beyoncé Discussion
Well yeah maybe Beyonce will outsell 30. We will find out after some months, we can't really know after day 1. It's off to a great start so maybe. OK well to be honest I don't read mainstream media. I haven't in years. Most of it is lies. If they're hyping her up like that then yes, it's a bit over the top. But ignoring all of that and just looking at the figures (which is what I am doing), I think they're great for Beyonce. But yeah, I do get it. The media are completely mental and I think they get paid by record labels sometimes. I remember when Lady Gaga first came out and she was famous for like TWO MONTHS and they said in all the newspapers that she was going to be bigger than Madonna because she dressed up as Kermit the Frog. It was honestly the most fake thing I've ever seen (and there was the rumours she was a hermaphrodite which was obviously spread by her management (the same management that spread rumours than the Pussycat Dolls were strippers) and was a copy of what made Ciara a big star, but I won't go into that more). So I do understand it, but ignore what the press say, if you can. You'll be a lot happier. It's all fake. If you like Beyonce just enjoy her album, and if you don't, just ignore it. I'm done with the press, they are absolute trash and you shouldn't let them dictate your life.

To be fair I think every single person on here would agree with that. It's like saying "Water is wet". It's so obvious I don't see the point in even mentioning it. Beyonce's figures are fantastic though. Definitely in the top 1% of all music artists.

I don't think it will hurt Benson tbh. I think this is the same amount of time Ariana Grande left between her singles and it hasn't hurt her (I know it's not exactly the same situation because Beautiful Things has been bigger than yes, and? and more of a slow burner, and Ariana's 2nd single has come with the album release, but still).

2024 Singles Year To Date Estimates
I forgot what year it was but the year when it was God's Plan vs. One Kiss was good for a year-end #1 battle. God's Plan had the early lead and looked like the year-end #1, but then One Kiss came out in like April iirc and gradually caught up and it was SUPER close at the end of the year. But if it's not Stick Season for this year then it's going to have to be an absolute mega-smash to beat it.

The Official Singles Chart - what should its future be?
There's a LOT of "theories" out there about Beyonce if you go looking. I can't go into it all because it'll take forever but the gist of it is that some people think she was chosen as a young child to be a future pop star. There are blogs, websites, forums full of details people have found about Beyonce's early life, and her parents and other ancestors and their connections, places they've been, groups they've been a part of, the earliest media coverage of her, etc. I don't know how true it all is, but it's an interesting rabbit hole to go into at least.

I feel if anybody would do extra promo to get to #1 this week it would be Djo because it would be his first ever #1 anywhere? So for him it's probably a big deal. It seems like Ariana's team cares mostly about US #1s and Benson Boone has been #1 loads of places and is probably getting used to them now lol.

Who will dethrone Beyoncé at #1?
Could be any of them but I think most likely Djo.

OCC announces a new Top 10 award
It's definitely not "needed", and I think in a sense it's a bit much, but a good move on their part in the sense that a lot of the artists will probably my make a social media post about the award which is good promo for the OCC. Plus it is probably easier for them to get interviews with artists for their website if they're giving out awards. So I can see it being a good business decision for the OCC. And at least these days there's not that many top 10 hits compared to like 2004 lol.

I think "collapse" is a bit over-dramatic but yeah she's falling quickly in comparison to a lot of other big hits. I've noticed Murder on the Dancefloor has fallen quite quickly the past couple of weeks as well (unfortunately). It was 100,000 away from Stick Season a while ago on Spotify, now it's close to Unwritten.

Best United State of America?
I was thinking a lot of the New York songs are probably referring to the city rather than the state. But there's not really much point in going through them all to try and work it out.

It's a different situation, because I haven't really seen anybody proclaim that Beyonce is flopping, whilst some people were saying that Dua and Ariana were flopping. I think if people were saying Beyonce was flopping people would come to her defence. To be honest I've even seen some people saying on Twitter that Break My Soul was a flop, which is just insane to me. Like I don't know what people's standards are anymore.

OCC: Calvin Harris' Official Top 20 biggest UK singles
I think it's mostly just because Miracle was released less than a year ago. It'll probably get to 2 million in a few years. One Kiss *only* sold about 1.5 million the year it came out as well, most of its sales were from afterwards.

OCC: Jennifer Lopez's Top 20 Biggest Songs In The UK
Wow thanks for the links guys! And I have to say I'm quite impressed by my forecast in the 2nd thread. Yeah, at the time I think we all knew sales would eventually peak and streaming would take over. But if it happened "organically", like gooddelta says, it would have been a lot more gradual, like a period where the year-on-year sales increases flucuated between like -2% and +2%, then another period where they fluctuated between -5% and 0%, and so on, like a smooth peak and then a smooth transition to a decline. For the drop in sales to be so sudden, something happened. If you plotted all the year-on-year sales increase percentages on a graph for 2013 it would look really unnatural. Like if you saw that pattern on a population graph, you'd assume there'd been some war or disease, if you saw that pattern on a political opinion poll, you'd assume there'd been some scandal or something, if you saw that pattern in a company's stocks there'd be absolute panic in the boardroom that day lol. So I think absolutely something happened. BillyH's idea might be correct. It's the best answer I have of the cause of it. They did give out free Apple Music subscriptions to some iPhone users but I looked into it and the only cases I can find of it happening in 2013 don't coincide with the sales drop, so I don't think it can be that. So yeah, it might be free users getting unlimited plays of songs that convinced a lot of people to ditch downloads for good all at the same time. I think it was a big factor in the OCC adding streaming. I think not long before this they wrote in an article (in response to speculation that they would add streaming like Billboard did) that the singles chart is (and always has been) a sales chart, not a "popularity" chart like the Hot 100, so they won't be adding streaming. But I think when the sales market started dropping (especially so suddenly), they decided to reconsider.

I think the Royel Otis version is great. I listened to it a couple of weeks ago because I saw a lot of the alternative stations in the US are playing it. I wasn't expecting it to do anything in the UK but it would be nice if it charted. There's also Skepta's version which I really like. They got Sophie to join them for one of their performances as well: WDqnnKtQycs

I generally agree with this, but you bring up Adele and she missed #1 with Skyfall at a time when she was the biggest pop star I've ever seen. And it's a great song too. It still did really well overall though, just not a #1 somehow.

Streaming Services Chart Discussion
To be honest the only thing I'd "expect" to be #1 first week (for example) would be a Taylor Swift lead single. I can't really think of any other artist at the moment who would be an almost guaranteed #1. It's up in the air for pretty much any other artist. And the same goes for top 10s although I guess the list of artists I'd expect it for is slightly longer than just Taylor Swift lol. Even The Weeknd recently had a song that took like 6 months to reach the top 10. And I know Beyonce is probably about to get a #1 but equally a Beyonce song can easily miss the top 40.

OCC: Jennifer Lopez's Top 20 Biggest Songs In The UK
Yeah, the absolute peak was in 2013. One week I think in the summer/autumn sales just suddenly collapsed by like 10% compared to the previous year (before that they used to always be up a few percent) and they just kept falling after then. To this day I still don't know what event caused it, it was way too significant and sudden to be random. My guess is a load of iPhone users got given a free Apple Music subscription or something like that.
