It's awesome that The Pogues and Bon Jovi are in both the 1989 and 2009 charts!

The BuzzJack Friday Chart Show Thread: 2nd January 2026
About Christmas songs on Radio 1, isn't there that one DJ who has a tendency to play Mariah's All I Want For Christmas is You once each summer as a joke? I can't remember who it is but someone here probably knows lol.

Me too. We should be seeing Steps, S Club 7, Drizzee Rascal, Girls Aloud, Sugababes, etc. Or songs like Make Luv, Music Sounds Better With You, Call On Me, Groovejet, Waves, etc. Just random examples. But it is really sad. Other countries which don't share their language with the US get their local hits. Oh well.

Jax Jones and Take That have a song out on Friday apparently. They're both big names here so it might scrape the top 1000 on Apple Music lol.

I heard through the grapvine that some of those white noise songs are made by Ameritz, who used to make karaoke versions of songs and were responsible for some of those "fake" cover versions that used to chart lol.

I'm surprised. I think Wear My Kiss sounds the most Christmassy, but I am pleased for them regardless. :)

Songs of the decade
It's possible they might do two decade-end lists. One for "current" songs and one for overall songs. But I think the overall deacde-end chart is guaranteed at least. Is it possible Last Christmas will be decade-end #1? Mr. Brightside seems to be finally declining, or am I imagining that? Because I noticed it's charting lower than Iris recently.

Songs of the decade
Surely there's no way the OCC won't publish a decade-end list?

2025 singles year to date estimates
I'm not sure. But I doubt it. I remember a long time ago they used to do year-end chart shows some years but not other years (seemingly at random) but the problem is solved now, because we have a chart the week after Christmas full of Christmas songs, which we don't really like in this country. So I think that weekly chart show will always be replaced with the yearly chart from now on, because they probably feel super awkward playing 30 Christmas songs in a row on 29th December or whatever. If this year the chart show is on Boxing Day it wouldn't be so bad, but I still don't think they'll do it.

Friday Chart Predictions
Yeah definitely. I don't even know One I've Been Missing anyway. I Wont Give Up by Kelly Clarkson is on it too. I can barely remember that song but also don't think it has anything to do with Christmas.

Another one is Love Me Like You by Little Mix, they put it on the "Modern Christmas Mix" playlist on Spotify! :o

Fleetwood Mac are #30 apparently? I thought they'd be higher. Coldplay, Oasis, Arctic Monkeys, Lana Del Rey all in the top 20 if I'm looking at the right list.

Friday Chart Predictions
Yeah, especially if you want Christmas music playing in the background for like 6 hours. Maybe a lot of us would enjoy making a playlist that long as we are really into mainstream music, etc, but for normal people it's an extreme amount of effort, you can't blame them for just choosing a playlist or letting autoplay do its thing. But yeah it sucks for what it does to the charts.

Album tracks charting higher than singles
Someone Like You by Adele was an album track when it went #1. I think that's the first time it happened properly.

S Club 7 as well lol. But weren't they all released around Christmas, and also marketed sort of as "Christmas songs"? Some of them Christmas #1? So they will have become associated with Christmas because of that. I know it doesn't make much sense, but its not JUST because of snow in the videos imo. Even Alexandra Burke's version of Hallelujah or Lily Allen's version of Somewhere Only We Know get boosts at Christmas. There are people out there who just associate those songs with it now.

Well, Boom Clap, Fancy and Doing It were hits shortly after that. If she ever was considered a one-hit wonder it can't have been for more than a year lol.

The BuzzJack Friday Chart Show Thread: 14th November 2025
In the download era there were a lot of cover versions of songs released before the originals which were held back. Some were allowed to chart (a few even made top 40 but most were way lower down), some charted in the mid-weeks but didn't make the final top 200 (even though they clearly had the sales to), and some weren't ever allowed to chart at all (even though, again, they definitely had the sales to).

2025 singles year to date estimates
That's wild. I remember in 2010 the Threshold was basically around 200,000 to be in the top 100 and 100,000 to be in the top 200.

It may be illegal, but I have seen first hand public places using Spotify for their music (and no, not just once before anybody says that...), so it might be more prevalent than we think, especially in restaurants, bars, corner shops, etc. If you're not part of a big chain especially.

OCC: Top 20 Lily Allen songs
I was expecting Smile to be back at #1 by now. It'll probably get there eventually though.

I don't remember, but Somewhere Only We Know must have been much higher than #12? When it was originally released I mean.

There's loads of rap songs which have titles along those lines, and usually theres no significant backlash. I do get your point though.

Stranger Things soundtrack spoilers I would love Upside Down to be back in the charts. I think Another Brick In The Wall is too ubiquitous, I'm not sure the show would be able to introduce it to new people. And I'm not sure the viewers would relate to it today (even though they should imo). A lot of people really trust the education system and mainstream media these days, so they might find the concept of the song offensive, if anything.

I haven't checked the chart in a couple of months, but since when have they started having tied positions on the TV chart? :o
