iTunes Weekly Thread W/C 20th July 2014
I think this trend has peaked now to be honest, as a few others have under-performed recently too. Probably only a few more will reach #1 after this.

Keri Hilson - 'L.I.A.R.'
I was seeing interviews last year of her saying she's done songs with Timbaland, etc. She should have released something after the success of Justin Timberlake last year.

Awesome to see these songs in the top 100 (and Turn Down For What too :D)!

iTunes Weekly Thread W/C 13th July 2014
Did it? :o Well, it was discounted for part of the week at least (I felt like it was discounted for months for some reason, but I might be thinking of Princess of China). I didn't bet on it literally (luckily, or else I'd have lost money). I heard the song the other day and I liked it, reminded me of Turn Back Time for some reason. Can't remember much about what the singing was like (don't usually pay much attention to vocals), but I remember at the beginning of the song there was a note held on for ages and I just wished it would stop since it sounded quite shrill over the beat. That's the only fault I have with the song really.

I'm the same. I placed my bets on Cheryl before, but now I'd place them on Rude. This could be one of the weeks where TV performances actually make a difference. If she performs the song on TV (or it gets used on a high profile TV show) then it could boost her over Rude. Another way she could get #1 is to do like Titanium and Paradise and discount the song to boost it there.

Spotify Chart Thread 2014, Part I
The only way pre-orders will become meaningless is if either the sales market itself shrinks so much that it becomes almost irrelevent in the overall chart, or if songs don't get held back anymore.

I agree. Also, whenever she announces her marriage/engagement, people can always claim it's a publicity stunt. So no matter what she can't win. Same when people divorce. I remember when Cheryl had problems in her previous marriage and she was on TV crying and people said she was faking it. I just don't get it. Why does that have to be faked? She can have feelings just like any other person. If she gets cheated on, of course she'll be upset. The only reason she gets accused of faking it is because she's famous. That's it. Because she's famous, every time she gets married or divorced people will claim it's fake or for attention.

Hot Natured - Benediction
Wow, I've never heard this song before. But seriously, I think its re-release could chart well, but I think it would have done better last summer. I feel like the house trend is starting to die down now.

Usher ft. Nicki Minaj - She Came To Give It To You
I agree. :( This is a nice song though. I hope it does well. Good Kisser I wasn't too fussed about on first listen, but it's grown on me a lot. The chorus of it is amazing.

The rising popularity of 'instrumental' choruses?
I can think of hits from the 90's and 00's which had instrumental choruses, but I agree it has become more common recently. I think it might have started getting more common around 2008/2009 with songs like Basshunter - Now You're Gone, Black Eyed Peas - Boom Boom Pow, Sugababes - Get Sexy, etc. Also in 2010/2011 there were songs like LMFAO - Party Rock Anthem, Jay-Z/Kanye - Paris, Edward Maya - Stereo Love, Yolanda Be Cool - We No Speak Americano, Swedish House Mafia/Tinie Tempah - Miami 2 Ibiza.

Who will be #1? Cheryl vs. MAGIC!
I'm not 100% sure, but if I had to guess I'd say Cheryl will get the #1.

US Hot 100 - 07/19/2014
It would be amazing if Latch went top 10 and out-peaked it's UK peak! :o That's something I never would have imagined possible 18 months ago!

Happy vs. Blurred Lines
Happy looks pretty certain to pass 2 million points imo. I reckon some other songs will manage it too.

Record chart climbs
I thought it was 95-1, but I could be wrong.

It could go either way. Nobody knows for sure. But most of the sales for both songs will come in the actual release week, and the pre-orders suggest that Rude will sell the most in the release week. Just depends if the gap is enough to overcome Cheryl's pre-orders. Also, Rude is obviously going to get streamed more given that the song is by a band, so that will help it a tiny bit too. I haven't heard Rude in full yet, but I wouldn't mind Cheryl getting #1 as the song is quite nice (albeit Talk Dirty/Thrift Shop-esque) and it would be cool for Tinie to get another #1.

Yeah, I wouldn't count Spectrum (or Gettin' Over You) as held back since the album versions were always available to download. Only ones I can think of vaguely like it are dance songs like Look Right Through or We No Speak Americano which were on compilation albums but made album-only on them before release I think. But I can't think of any which were on a proper album.

Have there been any that were held back and actually went #1? I know of a few that went top 20.

Spotify Chart Thread 2014, Part I
People probably don't bother looking for DJ Fresh songs on Spotify at this stage. I think it'll take a while for all the MoS songs to catch up.

The song itself is a bit meh, but the Party Rock Anthem video is amazing, even today! :D I think the best music video of 2014 so far is definitely Can't Remember to Forget You. It's got so many views as well, I wonder why. :kink:

Yeah, that's true. I think Miley-mania last year probably boosted Fall Down and a lot of her old songs' sales.

iTunes Weekly Thread W/C 6th July 2014
It was a promo singles from before the album was released, hence why it charted everywhere (I'm sure you know that already though ). It was later on sent to radio in Australia and probably some other countries. The song is decent, but kind of like Crazy Kids. There was another song on the album similar to it called Gettin' Dumb. The US seems to much prefer Fergie as a solo artist. It was like that with his previous album too. Heartbreaker did very well here, but he didn't have big hits from the album in the US (unless you count American Boy). But also, pop radio stations in the US would never play a song like T.H.E. or Bang Bang. I don't think they would play Feelin' Myself either, but after the success of Fancy over there it's possible they might have done.

He's done songs MUCH worse than this imo! I'd trade This Is Love's #1 status, since it's kinda boring and it's not even a will.i.am song. It's probably just a song that he stumbled across in a recording studio and decided to attach his name to.
-
iTunes Weekly Thread W/C 6th July 2014
will.i.am deserves the #1 imo, since it's a shame Feelin' Myself missed out.

Arctic Monkeys or Imagine Dragons if they release another album soon too.
