It's quite strange that We Found Love is so high on both playlists. Does it mean that Rihanna will be releasing new music soon? I remember a while ago I suddenly started hearing JLS songs everywhere, and then a couple of months after that they announced their comeback. And I realised that hearing their old songs a lot in a short time was obviously no coincidence and something their label had done. So maybe this is a sign Rihanna is coming back soon.

I think these resets are automatic now so it doesn't matter how silly the reason is. But I'm worried that its streaming increase happened in a Christmas week so it will miss out? With Murder on the Dancefloor its long-term success I think depends on whether it gets on the streaming playlists, Capital FM, etc, like Sure Thing, Die For You and Cruel Summer (and how viral it goes on TikTok). It's already such a famous song in this country though, but Running Up That Hill was really famous before too so it could work.

I think in 2024 we will see Noah Kahan obtain his first ever #1.

I have no idea what this movie is, but Murder on the Dancefloor and Perfect Exceeder is quite the soundtrack! And it looks like maybe Heartless by Kanye West will be back in the top 40 soon if it gets reset?

Christmas #1 2023 odds & discussion
I'm not too surprised at the TikTok thing because I've seen multiple stories over the years about big TikTok accounts doing live in-person events or meet-and-greets and having 0 people turn up.

I think it has a good chance to be in 2024's year-end top 10.

The same artist charting with different names
I remember another one, Lady Antebellum are now Lady A. I don't think they've been in the charts since then, but maybe one of their Christmas songs will make it one day lol.

The same artist charting with different names
I was looking at the Spotify charts and saw Stay Another Day and it reminded me that East 17 had an alternate name, E-17.

Chipmunk has changed his name to Chip (although I don't know if he's charted since then).

I know noticing this like 1 day before the thread closes is a bit too late, but why does it say "Amazoni" in the thread description? Is it a typo or a reference to a joke that I don't get or what? It's appropriate that 21 Savage is #21 on the list of most-streamed artists. It's a shame it hasn't worked for 50 Cent or 2 Unlimited though.

I used to love this song! :o It's so old though. And probably even less known than Sure Thing was.

For example this is the 2nd November update (and I think this has been going on since October at least, maybe if I can find the day it started I might find something in the news which might explain it).

I've been wondering as well. It seems like he's getting new peaks with songs and having re-entries almost every day for like maybe a month now. I'm happy for him but I don't know the cause of it.

Yeah you can get Youtube views that way, but views from adverts don't count for the charts anymore as far as I know. Lady Gaga - Dope and Soko - We Could Be Dead By Tommorrow got top 10 in the US because of that and after that they stopped counting streams from adverts, so probably the same here too. Now I guess you'd actually have to click on the advert and watch the actual video for the stream to count which I doubt many people do.

I know Youtube means almost nothing anymore for the charts, but I can't believe Mariah is already #7. And if The Beatles didn't exist she wouldn't be far from #1.

Christmas music 2023 news
Brenda Lee's record label have actually been promoting Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree since August! https://twitter.com/RossOnRadio/status/1697253545236730177 They're saying there that it's for the 65th anniversary. But I agree that they are probably trying for #1 in the US. Which is fair enough because it was extremely close behind Mariah on Christmas week in 2021 and 2022, so just a little bit of extra promotion could do it.

100k Opening Week • Will it happen this year?
Yeah I remember that. After Adele's and Ed's albums came out it put into perspective that Coldplay's opening week was actually fantastic.

I mean, really you could say the same about the weekly charts, that songs out from the start of the week have an advantage over those that are released half-way through. It would be interesting to see see rolling year-end charts (i.e. weekly charts that are totals of the previous 52 weeks of sales) to see all the songs that would get to #1 and how high other songs could get.

Yeah not what I was asking but it's still a good fact to know. The Spanish music trend from the end of last decade was shot-lived in the UK but in the US it's basically permanent now, Bad Bunny is one of the biggest artists over there. The collab Little Mix did is insanely catchy, I can't deny it.

Well, that makes more sense. But I'm still surprised it hasn't been in since then. I'm not really bothered, but it's quite a classic. I guess nobody will ever know the answer to this, but I wonder what the biggest song to never be in the UK Spotify top 200 is.

My Wicked Heart got SO much vitriol when it was out. I couldn't understand it. And I'm quite surprised that Under the Bridge hasn't been in the top 200 before.

I've always counted this situation as a post-album single as well. And I would still say the IDGAF situation is quite rare (although yes, it does seem like the most common way for one to happen is if it blows up within like 10 days after an album is released). Also, do we even know if IDGAF is going to be a single at all? It might still be just an album track. If it were to get announced as a single in November for example, we'd have to consider it a post-album single that just did well as an album track, surely? Although I feel like post-album singles have been doing better recently. Like Kill Bill, Cruel Summer, Die For You, Cuff It, etc. So it can be done. A few years ago it seemed like it was almost never happening. EDIT: I've done some research into Drake's situation, and it looks like his current single is Rich Baby Daddy. It has been sent to radio in Italy, it's on Radio 1's playlist, it's been playlisted by over 100 radio stations in the US already and was added to Today's Top Hits so that seems to be the song his label are trying to promote.

Flowers has such a big lead now, for anything to catch up to it it would have to be some kind of phenomenon. It's a bit boring that the year-end #1 was decided so early this year. Even in the first half of the year the chance of anything being able to overtake it was miniscule. I liked the year where it was God's Plan vs. One Kiss, it was a battle right until the end of the year.
