  1. I have Peppers, WTSMG, Dark side of the moon and Tubular bells. All purchased the week of release except for Tubular bells. Which I bought about a month after release. (I'm old!). Only one I pre-ordered was Sgt Peppers. (I was 14 years old..I earned 6 shillings(30p ..about £5.30 in Todays money!) a week on my paper round and saved up for the album for 5 weeks. (albums were 30 shillings..£1.50...about £26.50 in todays money!).
  2. Title says it all. My example is Electric Light Orchestra..(ELO). 5 flop albums, 2 top 40, 3 failed to chart. not much single success except for 2 top tens at the start. Then they released 'A new world record' and that was the first of a string of top 10 albums, including 2 number ones....and a string top ten singles...became one of the biggest bands of the seventies. Whats your example)s)?.
  3. Just 10 rock entries....3 of them Oasis, Noel and Liam, collectively holding up the rock genre.
  4. Oasis "Wonderwall".
  5. In fact The Who never had a number one at all...from any of their singles.
  6. 44 Greg Lake "I believe in father christmas" (with orchestra) 73 Greg Lake "I believe in father christmas".
  7. "Bad News" (Rik Mayal, Ade Edmonson etc) "Cashing in on Christmas" should be released as an alternative to the X factor single.
  8. 96 Dead or Alive - You Spin Me Round (Like a Record) Climbing R.I.P. Pete.

Officially I think it's Frank Sinatra's version of 'My way"...75 weeks in the top 40, a further 49 weeks in top 70, making 124 weeks in the top 70 in total. Highest position, Number 5.

Being old..first I remember is when The Beatles failed to reach number one with "Penny lane/Strawberry fields forever"..pipped by Engelbert Humperdink. I remember being extremely annoyed lol.(I was 14). First time since Please Please me they didn't get the top spot. Made the front page headlines.
  11. Back in the days when a failed X factor contestant could get number one. Now the winner can't even get one.
  12. Showing my age..lol. Donny Osmond "Puppy Love" 1972..(I was 17 he was 14).
  13. 25 moves into the top 40 best selling UK albums ever, if Hits daily double figures of 2.61 million so far are correct. In 5 weeks!.

Couple more interesting facts. (in context with fastest selling album). 25 took just 28 days to outsell Oasis BHN's total to date!(19 years).(source ukmix). Plus one I researched myself.(calculated from info in Buzzjacks weekly sales lists for 2011.) 21 took just 14 weeks to outsell BHN's total to date.

As of last Friday 25 has sold 12 million world wide!. In 4 weeks. And I thought 12 million in 34 weeks for 21 was amazing.

Just 7 or 8 non brit/Irish acts. Amazing Adele only took 2.5 years to get that amount of sales.
