Why?. how is someone who doesnt use auto-tune because she can actually sing, doesnt use gimmicks or striptease, writes her own songs and performs them well. how on earth is that a sad day for music?. Well done Adele,, I think its a great day for music, considering, imo. a lot of the chart these days has little to do with actual music and more to do with pure image. And I love all those albums in the top ten, Dark side of the moon/pepper/wtsmg are among my fav albums of all time, and Im glad Adele is up there with those guys, because, like them, she does MUSIC.

No punk or hard rock/metal in the top 40? Unless you count Queens early hard rock career and a couple of songs off Pepper.

Yes. The previous fastest to 3 million was Oasis in just over 1 year and 7 months. The fastest to 4 million was Oasis with 4.3 million by 2005 (ten years!).(I cant find how long they took to get to 4 million exact, but reckon 7 years at least.) I think Adele will get to 4.3 million by the summer of this year.

Adele and the Beatles are the only acts ever to post three songs in the Billboard Hot 100's top 10 and two albums in the Billboard 200's top five in the same week.

It's a sobering thought that we will probably(although nothings impossible) never ever see an album sell so much in so short a time in our lifetimes again. A perfect storm of an album.

Who decides what is 'quality'?. Large sales and artistic quality CAN go together, the two are not mutually exclusive. I'm not sure why you quote one direction as an example of big sales winning, If the brits had awarded the 'best single' to the highest sales then one direction would have come nowhere. One direction were voted winners by on online poll, (the darling of teeny speed dialers) , nothing to do with sales. You sound like you are saying any act that sells a lot has no artistic merit, which IS 'Utter nonsense'.

The actual figure, released by soundscan for the official billboard 200 this week is over 730K!. She's sold almost a million of 21 in the last 2 weeks in the US and it's a year old album as well.!

I mean, any major act would be excstatic with those figures in the first week of release. For Adele it is a year old album!.

No, that wasnt what the discussion was about, It was solely related to Fearless v 21. (Both being the second studio albums from the respective artists.). Basically someone said 21 would never match the sales of fearless in the US. :).

650K...maybe more???. wtf....crazier than crazy!!!. so pleased for her! . To be honest, I love Adele and 21, but even I cant understand how its still selling so much. Im pleased as punch for her, but it really is verging on what I would have said was impossible a year ago, considering the general state of the albums industry. I remember a guy on DS predicting(when 21 was released in the states) 3 million sales of 21 in the US, IN ITS LIFETIME!, and everyone else, including Adele fans said he was being ridiculously over optimistic.!. Now she's gone and sold over 7 million over there in a year!
