  3. That was for the week just gone(up to and including Sunday)/ The big one is this week(HDD chart published next monday and tuesday), estmated to be between 400-500k!.
  4. You mean BY last week?. Is that US sales?. World wide shes sold over 2 million this year already! ...amazing for a new album in Q1, let alone one that's been out for a year.(so I guess its Q5? :) )
  5. Bre. next week is forecast sales of over 399K, so at least 400k! "21 GOES FOR 21: After remaining at #1 for the 20th time on today’s HITS’ Album sales chart, XL/Columbia recording artist Adele’s 21 will have its best sales week to date next Tuesday (2/21), on the one-year anniversary of the album's release. Early indicators suggest the six-time Grammy winner, in her 52nd week on the chart, will blow past the 399k she achieved during Christmas week 2011. She's one of only 5 acts this century(and the top of course) to have sold more than 3 million of one album in the UK. The others are James Blunt, Amy Winehouse, Leona Lewis and Dido. (UK release was Oct 2000). Females certainly rule the charts this century. As a sidenote Only one of the previous 4 has not won a Brit. and, imo, should have. I hope Adele is not ignored like Leona was.
  9. I'm certain of one (seeing as that album is also the 21st centurys best seller already). 99% Certain of two. For the rest Id have to look up the figures...but I'll wait and read this thread as they come in instead.
  10. No suspense about what will be number one :) Thanks for this. I love chart stats :)

If you do an advanced search using +year +albums, you can find back to 2005 on Buzzjack. (you have to put in the + or else it searches for year OR albums), you need the + to make it search for year AND albums in the title.

Yes, she's going to find it hard to emulate these sales consistently for her next Album., However, I believe first week sales will be phenomenal, Both here and in the States.

She holds the record for most WW sales in a calender year, since they started keeping accurate records. Previous higest was Usher with 12 million, Adele sold 15.7 in 2011, and apparently, WW, has sold over 2 million this year already. (They count the last week in December as week 1 for 2012, because the last day of the week(Sunday) fell in 2012.). Ive been following charts and sales for years , ever since the sixties and have never ever seen an album sell like this in its first year. Its phenomona almost bordering on the paranormal. I mean, she smashed the UK calender year sales record for an individual album by almost 1.3 million. Thats about 50% higher than the previous record. (2.4 million, James Blunt) and in an era when Album sales generally are at an all time low. World wide best sellers over the last 5 years.... 2007 Amy Winehouse 5.5 Million 2008 Coldplay 6.6 Million 2009 Susan Boyle 6 million 2010 Lady gaga 5.9 million 2011 Adele 15.7 Million!
  14. Probably be Adele again :)
  15. Whoops, typo. yes you are right.
  16. Well it is 11 years since that album was released. How much did the album sell in its first year of release in the US?. It's quite possible Adele will have sold close to 10 million of '21' in 11 years time, she's on over 6 million already, after less than a year.
  17. Petula Clark. 'Downtown' July 1965 Petula Clark. 'My Love' Feb 1966 Lulu 'To Sir with love' Oct 1967 Sheena Eason 'Morning Train' May 1981 Bonnie Tyler 'Total Eclispse of the heart' Oct 1983 Kim Wilde 'You keep me hanging on' Jun 1987 Leona Lewis 'Bleeding love' March 2007. (20 year gap!) Adele 'Rolling in the Deep' May 2011 Adele 'Someone like you' Sept 2011 Adele 'Set fire to the rain' Jan 2012 (Some debate about Olivia Newton John, as she has was born in the UK, lived in Australia and took American nationality. But all sources I checked dont list her as British, so shes not in.) Just 10 female solo singles made it, 3 of them within the space of a year and by one act :)

Yes, they had 3 number one albums in 1964 for 30 weeks at number one and 4 albums in 1964 for another 30 weeks in 1965.
  19. Sales levels indicate how many people find an act 'quality' enough to buy thier records. If that differs to your idea of 'quality' then so be it, but it's just personal subjective opinion.

  22. Oh dear, someones peeved at Adele selling double Gaga this year.
  23. To be honest, people only say big sales dont equal good, if A) There fav doesnt sell or b), an act they don'tt like sells a lot. You never ever hear them saying about an act they love selling well, or an act they dislike selling relativly badly.
  24. Teenagers didnt have computer games, mobile phones, etc etc....most entertainment was spent on records, concerts, the pub and dance halls. I'm not saying singles didnt sell then, they did, its just they sell more in total these days. The whole point of my OP was that, imo, the increased unit sales do not mean better quality music, it just means the product is so much cheaper etc etc.
  25. But 2011 saw the BIGGEST unit sales for single ever in the UK. Thats my point. back then, yes, singles sold, but not as much as they do now. thes days, (apart from the very low reletive cost) you can buy album tracks, etc, and there are probably more acts to choose from. Put it this way, if a single costs the equivalent of 99p in 1965 and you could buy individual album tracks..then single sales back then would dwarfed todays I think.
