  1. I was 12 in 1965. Would take me about 15 weeks to save up enough pocket money to buy a single. lol. as for albums...about £40 in todays money. I bought just one album in the sixties(Beatles, Revolver)...it wasnt until I started work in 1970 that I could afford to buy more. I spent almost my entire first weeks wages on Zeppelin, Sabbath and Deep Purple albums :)
  2. 2011 reported the higest units of singles ever sold in the UK. However..I did some research. (figures are not the price at the time, they are what the equivalent cost these days, allowing for inflation and average weekly wage rise). cost of a download 2011 . round about 99p. Cost of a single in 1980, £8!. ........................in 1965 £15! So, coupled with the ease of downloading..its not surprise units sold have risen sharply. Id love the see sales revenue from singles, rather than units sold, that would give a truer comparison I think.

Any chance we could get back on topic, instead of this petty squabbling? I was wondering about sales revenue v quantity..(see my previous post). THanks

Adele achieved best selling album of the 21st century this week :).

Whats the difference in actual sales revenue, as opposed to sales units. Remember most downloads are at least half the price of physicals.(even allowing for inflations its even less) So if someone sells 100K in 2004 and 150K in 2011, they have more units sold, but less revenue.?.
  6. Its amazing...Adele has sold 5 million of '21' and 11 million singles in the US alone this year!. http://www.99wfmk.com/rssItem.asp?feedid=1...itemid=29762841

Years biggest number one single??. That would be Adele though, cant see anyone, not even X factor overtaking it by year end.
  8. Pixie is going to be a Dr Who companion?
  9. Its a perfectly good way of expressing how something is good, regardless of any additional factors. so the phrase 'mothers day or not' to me seems perfectly acceptable, to indictate that the sales were in excess of the increase one would normally expect on mothers day. Other albums didnt sell nearly as well that week, so 'mothers day or not', to me, seems to indicate the situation extremely well.
  10. 4 million is a very tall order. needs an average of 68k+ a week for the rest of the year. I think 3.5 is more likely. Still, you never know with Adele. I remember Koney on digital spy predicting 3.3 million by year end way back in Febuary, and we all laughed and called him ridiculously overoptimistic. lol Whatever, shes still going to have the best selling album of the 21st century by then, and in the top ten best selling uk albums of all time...in just 11 months!. ps. If 19 sells well at at xmas as well, Adele could conceivably have sold 5 million albums in the UK alone this year, astonishing!!.
  11. Yes. if you add up all her album and single sales worldwide, it come to over 20 Million records sold!, most of that in 7 1/2 months. Extraordinary sales.
  12. Thanks for the constructive info, appreciated. :)
  13. I'm sure there is a more consise way of titling this thread..lol anyway.... With Adele selling more on her second album, huge amounts, probably her third album wont do this, still sell a lot, but not like 21. I was wondering which acts have sold more with each progressive album?, and how many albums before they peaked?. (I mean where each album sold more than the previous one)
  14. I agree... You have given me an idea for a thread :)
  15. Good call, they are somewhere in the middle, nearer to 12.5 than 11 ) :). I actually went and added up all the weeks totals for this year from the Global album chart sitesite..lol. 19 has sold 1,795,000 albums world wide. So her total albums sales are 11,795,000 !!
  16. I said world wide :) 4 million in the UK alone is actually mind boggling though. Previous best ever year for total albums was the year Michael Jackson died, 2.4 Million.(although some stats show James blunt with a single album just above MJ's total). Whatever, Adele has those records now, I think it will be a long time till any other album achieves her sales so quickly. I wonder what first week sales will be for her next album?.
  17. What are Adeles total album sales this year world wide (21 + 19) ?, anyone know?.
  18. Usher sold 11,867,000 in the year (2004). http://www.mediatraffic.de/albums-2004.htm
  19. Yes, i forgot that, we've still got 3 and a half months of the year left!, with x factor and xmas season. I wonder if she can do 3.5 by year end and get into the top ten best selling UK albums of all time?.
  20. She's hit 3 million, an all time UK record for a calender year :) Report here http://www.theofficialcharts.com/chart-new...on-album-sales/ Big Congrats to her, personally I'm pleased this has come from an act that has real music in their veins and genuine talent.
  21. First time this century, beating Taylor Swifts 11 weeks.

No, its not true. cant you understand not everyone thinks like you. and why does it matter to you what other people do?...its not harming you. You just come across as lacking much self-awareness to be honest.
