When you realise your two favourite BeeGees songs were #1 20 years apart from each other 😮

Sigur Ros 😍 truly unique and magnificent live. Some classic albums from years back but their new one ATTA is good too. The track Klettur (which is in my record of the decade noms for 2023) is one of the most atmospheric pieces of music I've ever heard. Pleased they've held up well, but I didn't take part in this last time, so if whoever voted for them last time had voted the same way again, they could have been a lot higher with my extra 28 points! Like what I know from Royksopp too.

Never knew that link to Together In Electric Dreams! Great song. No big losses for me recently - plenty good groups but none that were particularly close to my points.

Amazed Simon & Garfunkel didn't get a single point last time. Much more representative position this time.

Happy with that result for BMTH, though I've not been too into their most recent stuff (and still don't know much of their earliest stuff)

That's a pretty formidable collection all out on 56 points! Thought MCR would be higher after Black Parade won the best song knockout rate that ran on here a year or two ago.
  8. Excited as ever for this. I had 45-50 songs in mind. Could have waited to see if anyone else nominated some of them, to make my job easier, but got impatient. So... 2014 Bombay Bicycle Club - Come To Lorde - 400 Lux (Someone please nominate Jamie T - Zombie and Robyn & Royksopp - Monument) 2015 Everything Everything - No Reptiles Maccabees - Spit It Out Wolf Alice - Silk (Someone please nominate Jamie XX - Gosh and Everything Everything - Spring / Sun / Winter / Dread) 2016 Black Honey - All My Pride Kings of Leon - Over Mystery Jets - Bubblegum 2017 Alt-J - Adeline Arcade Fire - Creature Comfort Big Thief - Mary 2018 Metric - Risk (Someone please nominate Muse - Something Human and Arctic Monkeys - 4 Out Of 5) 2019 Coldplay - Champion Of The World Declan McKenna - British Bombs Tiffany Haddish - Not Evil 2020 Bring Me The Horizon - Parasite Eve Declan McKenna - The Key To Life On Earth (Someone please nominate Dadi Freyr - Think About Things, Doves - Carousels and The Strokes - The Adults Are Talking) 2021 ABBA - I Still Have Faith In You Biffy Clyro - Errors In the History Of God 2022 Arcade Fire - Lightning 1 & 2 (this is effectively a single song on the album and in the way it was released, so is it OK as a single nomination) Jamie T - A Million And One New Ways Florence and the Machine - King Wet Leg - Too Late Now (Someone please nominate Alt-J - Happier When You're Gone) 2023 Sigur Ros - Klettur Ryan Gosling - I'm Just Ken Hans Zimmer & Raye - Mother Nature Blur - The Heights Boygenius - Not Strong Enough Labrinth feat Billie Eilish - Never Felt So Alone Dadi Freyr - Whole Again (Someone please nominate The Beatles - Now And Then) I was considering nominating Sinner by Last Dinner Party which was first released last year but it's only really become known this year so will save it for 2024.

I'd probably have given Placebo a small handful of points if I'd remembered them. Minor correction needed to their entry - Pure Morning was also a #4 peak.

When A1 got it right, they got it really right. Caught In The Middle, Make It Good and Same Old... are in my top tier of boyband songs ever. On that basis I think they're underrated and gave them points, even if some of their other stuff (eg Take On Me) is naff. I've never got on with The Wombats at all, til they released Techno Fan which is a tune!
  13. Early 2001 was a time to be alive - sales suddenly exploded and stayed high for weeks on end. Across an interesting spectrum too, from steady slow burners (Whole Again) through to huge first week hype then a drop (Pure And Simple)

Biffy finishing behind the Script is a sad state of affairs! Thought they might get more than just a couple of lowish votes besides my own.
  15. I've had zero interest in any previous LM solo singles but this one is excellent on first listen (as is the video)

Wonder if New Order are still to come?
  18. Would like - Beautiful Things near the top, Greedy and Lose Control as the bottom two. Actually predict - that they may well be the bottom 3!

Losing two strong indie bands from the lower echelons of my points there. Pleased they both got two other voters (both different, slightly surprisingly) and did respectably.

SFA are great, used to have their greatest hits on CD, been too long since I listened to them! Hearing the intro to Orbital's Satan for the first time was a slightly terrifying childhood memory

Agree with this almost word for word, except I'd say a couple of MGMT's best moments came after their first album, in particular the sublime Flash Delierium

Had hoped the Maccabees might get another vote or two from somewhere. They've got a series of great albums. Dubstar is a band I've not thought about since circa 1996 but quite liked at the time!
