I think their whole USP is their music is being quite challenging / groundbreaking compared to a conventional guitar band. Their style's very distinctive. Not to everyone's taste, for sure. But I'd argue they're just about the most groundbreaking mainstream band of the decade.

Good hold by Fontaines, love to see it! Not surprised by Demolition coming through - it reminds me of Bug from the last album as one of my least favourites but definitely one of the most hooky radio friendly. I'd rather Taylor released a batch of tupperware minidiscs to keep #1 than Babydoll getting there. I find it borderline unlistenable

Ooh didn't realise Romance was so high first week. They're definitely bigger now than when it was released so >50k is highly likely. Hopefully >60k

Decent update that! So excited for Dopamine Chamber, and love the new Jamie T one. Sad that Expectations couldn't make it big by itself, probably my 3rd fave of the album. But will reserve judgement til I've heard the version with Chappel Roan, maybe it stands up in its own right.

My hate for Babydoll is a cumulative thing. Yes I dislike it as a song, but plenty of songs I've disliked in the past have made #1. What I hate is that almost every #1 this last year or two has been from a mid poppy sort of bracket that represents a small fraction of the musical spectrum (Babydoll coming after Choosing Texas, RMI, Ordinary, I Knew You..., MIN, Stick Season etc) Where's the dance / indie / rap / ballad etc #1s? There used to be so much more variety in what would chart high. Ashe's song is at least quite interesting so I hope she beats Babydoll

I really didn't think this year could get any worse in terms of the #1 position, but if Babydoll gets there we have a whole new level of bad. In this era where you now only need a miniscule market share to reach #1, it seems like lowest common denominator background sludge is going to be the winning formula
