Is it though? I've barely heard it anywhere despite watching most England games in the pub and loads of the world cup on TV. If England do win, can't see Wonderwall being inextricably linked with it in years to come ala RUTH with Stranger Things or 3 Lions with Euro 96.

I love songs like Common People (one of my all time faves), Bittersweet Symphony, Tender, Children etc... But in my head they are #2 singles forever. (Same as Paranoid Android, Hey Boy Hey Girl etc are #3s) I don't want them to have a random chart run 30 years later that bumps their chart history up to being #1. Unless they truly have a cultural phenomenon moment ala Running Up That Hill, which makes their second coming as relevant as the first time round. It just wouldn't feel very authentic to me.

Next week could see England winning a world cup quarter final and semi final and getting built up for the final... so a football song could do enough for #1?

Sombr's new song is his best since the first album, so it can keep climbing. Usually hate ancient songs getting reset, but it's such an injustice that Robyn peaked lower than the atrocity by Callum whoever it was that I'm all for it getting a reset, a week a #1, then retreating to ACR before it gets overplayed. Can't imagine anything played in a hydration break is going to go big on Spotify - they're causing nothing but rage among most fans!

The Who and Led Zep for me. Seemed a slam dunk that bands that big in the 60s and 70s got a couple of #1s. I was shocked when I first heard neither had (though later found out Led Zep didn't really do singles).

I think The Cure is Olivia's best song yet - against some strong competition - but not hugely commercial so would settle for #2 Breath of fresh air to have someone who leans indie having such sustained chart success. This new song reminds me of Smashing Pumpkins!
