I think there's a missing score for Maccabees - Spit It Out by the way. I gave it 28 and RabbitFurCoat gave it 24.

Ugh almost all my favourites making big climbs but narrowly missing AQ, and then Disturbed and Kygo both a point short of deserved SF places.

I'd definitely have given Florence a few points but always think of her/them as a solo artist not a group so never crossed my mind for this rate

Wow at Saint Etienne. I love He's On The Phone (a cruel #11 peak) but don't know much else by them and wouldn't have guessed in a million years their name would come up this high. Will have to check their other stuff out. REM have some great songs but aren't a particular favourite of mine overall. Unlike the Chemical Brothers who are my favourite dance group. Echo what the earlier posters have said.

Perhaps unsurprisingly for someone with mainly indie & alternative taste, a lot of my favourites have fallen before the top 50. Arcade Fire the latest biggie to go, consistently strong with every album having at least a couple of absolute worldies on it and Funeral in particular being an all time classic. I went to their tour the week after the allegations about Win Butler broke and it was a weird vibe, so can understand why they might have been swerved by a few folk in this rate.

Same! This stat has slightly blown my mind.

Of all the acts I could have seen live but haven't/didn't, The Prodigy are the one I regret the most. Must have been incredible.

What's your favourite fruity top 10 hit?
Charlie XCX beating Marvin Gaye or The Beatles (or even Harry Styles) would be Exhibit A in the definition of recency bias!

Record of the Decade: 2014-2023 (Nominations Thread)
Ooh I've used up all my nominations but if someone could save Wide Open by the Chemical Brothers that would demonstrate excellent taste...

Record of the Decade: 2014-2023 - 2014 Voting
Yikes, apologies if it's in the wrong year. I associate it with 2014 but if this was corrected last year, I didn't update my notes for noms so just copied and pasted the same incorrect nom in again this year! It won't qualify anyway so no real harm done...

Forgot how much of a tune Room On The Third Floor was! Good to see it done live too, sounding like something straight out of mid 90s Britpop

Pulp 😍😍 I'd say probably the best band of the Britpop era in hindsight. Finsbury Park last year was certainly the most fun gig I've been to in ages. And Different Class is in my top 10 albums of all time.

I felt guilty not giving Pink Floyd points, they're clearly absolute genius and as influential as it gets, I just don't find myself going back to their music very often. Interesting that The Smiths only had 4 voters but were very high scores from all 4 of them.

Food* would probably have been in my 31-40 bracket due to weight of solid songs. Not many I absolutely love though. Favourite is actually Walk from one of their more recent albums, absolute banger. *Foos, even. Thanks autocorrect

The lack of The Verve is pretty surprising but in mitigation does everyone just see them as a one-album band? I don't know how many other albums if any they've got beyond Urban Hymns

Thought Westlife might be a fair bit higher... haven't looked at the results from last time so didn't realise they finished so low then. The Vamps finishing ahead of [insert almost every other band in the list so far] is a very Buzzjack type of bonkers.

Sigur Ros 😍 truly unique and magnificent live. Some classic albums from years back but their new one ATTA is good too. The track Klettur (which is in my record of the decade noms for 2023) is one of the most atmospheric pieces of music I've ever heard. Pleased they've held up well, but I didn't take part in this last time, so if whoever voted for them last time had voted the same way again, they could have been a lot higher with my extra 28 points! Like what I know from Royksopp too.
