I really don’t understand the point of the boxset if it doesn’t include anything the fans want from the archives. Still can’t believe Universal Music Group teased this release. They wasted a lot of goodwill on such a lackluster release.

Where’s the Spiceworld version of Say You’ll Be There and the radio edit of Who Do You Think You Are (Morales Club Mix)? Are these not included in the new box set?

The only unreleased song title we know from Absolute is Still Got It, which is a GEM song. It’s interesting Geri, Emma and Mel B worked with Eliot Kennedy and Absolute during this time period on new material. I would bet Absolute does have some unreleased Spice Girls tracks in their archives. They probably haven’t registered them because they don’t think they will ever see the light of day.

I agree with this. It does make more sense to release Woman and any other high quality outtake along side a world tour. It would get maximum exposure this way. Everyone will be in the mood to revisit their catalogue/new music alongside a tour announcement. I don’t think there are any Darkchild outtakes either. If I remember right they had to do a late session in July 2000 because they were 2 tracks short for the album. That’s when they recorded Wasting My Time and remixed Right Back At Ya.

Taking the Sugababes route and releasing the “shelved” 1999 album is a decent idea. The girls themselves wouldn’t have to promote it much. Word of mouth on social media would do the heavy lifting. If the album gets negative reviews, they can say that’s why it was never released in the first place. It’s a gift to the long time fans. Casual fans would probably be more inclined to buy/stream this release since 8 out of the 10 songs haven’t been officially released.

If they are going to release Woman at some point, what would be the best home for it? Forever 30? New Greatest Hits? Anthology Collection? Rarities compilation? Their discography is so small. How many times can they release an anniversary edition of an album with little to no outtakes before die hard fans don’t care anymore? I can see them releasing Spice 40 with a few outtakes since there is many to choose from with this era, especially if they tack on Touch songs. Spiceworld doesn’t seem to have any outtakes so I don’t see Universal releasing another anniversary edition. Mr. X you make a great point. The group probably doesn’t want to release the pop outtakes from Forever on an anniversary edition because they would not gel with the released album. Those songs almost feel like they are from a different album. So what release would make the most sense for the Forever pop songs?

Now where is that coffee table book filled to the rim of HQ photo shoots. 😉

Casual fans would probably be more open to a rarities album than a random new remix of Wannabe by a famous producer. I read so many comments of casual fans upset with the boxset. The majority of comments were along the lines of I already own all the singles. They are in my mom’s attic. I don’t need to buy them again. Thanks for nothing Spice Girls. In terms of music releases it seems casual fans want something new, not “old” songs repackaged. Maybe that’s why the group didn’t even bother with Forever 25 because Spice 25 and Spiceworld 25 didn’t sell as well as UMG projected.

Casuals are not going to buy the singles collection. It’s way too expensive. Also, most casual fans don’t care about remixes. If they released the Orbital remix of Wannabe as a stand alone streaming release, it would probably do better.

That artwork is giving me low effort, no budget, that will do just fine energy. I don’t collect vinyl, but the artwork is so plain and boring. What fan would want to display that?

The fact the girls signed off on a poor quality version of Do You Think About Me is embarrassing. Melanie C can’t say crap about b-sides are b-sides for a reason anymore. There’s no excuse for not cleaning up DYTAM for this release. The expensive price point has also been heavily criticized. Most casuals are baffled at why it’s so expensive when they are just repackaging old music everyone already has. UMG made a huge miscalculation by releasing a teaser for this collection. They should have just announced the collection instead of teasing it. There is a positive take away from this announcement disaster. It shows they have a huge casual fan base and can still attract worldwide coverage. Not many music acts can say that after 30 years. They need to get the movie on streaming ASAP. I don’t know how many comments mentioned how badly they wanted it on a streaming service. I don’t see any of the girls promoting this release now due to the backlash. Their comments section will be filled with negative comments.

The fact they didn’t include Woman or the movie version of Say You’ll Be There is baffling. It’s the two most requested unreleased tracks. If this collection is supposed to cater to the die hard fans….. If they are open to releasing some of the Touch era tracks, why not release Sugar & Spice or Melody of Life? Casual fans want fun, uptempo tracks to go with their nostalgia. They made the same mistake with Spice 25 by only releasing Feed Your Love.

This has gone down like a led balloon with casual fans across social media. Almost every comment on the announcement is negative. I’ve also seen some very negative TikTok and Instagram posts as well. They must really hate all of their unreleased tracks if they are willing to release a YouTube rip of a Touch era song. I can’t get over how bad the sound quality is of Do You Think About Me. Who is going to listen to this more than once? Imagine a casual fan listening to this.

Set list is ok. I feel like her die hard fans are going to want some of her past singles instead of Touch Me and the two Spice Girls songs. Blame It On Me, Anymore and Who I Am probably would have been better choices.

At the end of the day it really depends on how well the tour is doing. If the tour underperforms then it doesn’t bold well for future albums. She’s done so much promo to promote this era and raise her public profile.

In hindsight she should have leaned into her ice queen, bad girl posh persona. Imagine if Girlfriend was the first single. A sexy, glossy club video with Victoria looking so hot a man is willing to cheat on his girlfriend. Victoria was never going to win the press over in 2001 with trying to be relatable and misunderstood.

Melanie is already back down to 1 million monthly listeners on Spotify. The album is doing abysmal streaming numbers. I wonder how the tour is selling.

I just don’t see them releasing anything music wise for Spice 30. Spice 25 was successful because of the individual vinyl variants of the group. They can’t do that again for Spice 30. Releasing Woman on a 25th anniversary edition of Forever would have been easy money for the group, which the girls are all about these days. Coin Master anyone? That suggests the group can’t agree on which unreleased songs to release. I can maybe see them releasing a digital Spice 30 which includes previously released remixes that are currently not on streaming.

I’m not surprised Spotify is just a major gatekeeper. I find it hard to believe there’s no payola involved with these major playlists. You look at some of them and have to wonder.

With how well the album sold in its first week, I’m surprised UMG isn’t willing to get her on a main Spotify playlist. I’m sure Drum Machine would do well.
