  4. Boyzone's Official Top 40 biggest songs in the UK revealed By George Griffiths | 06 February 2025 Boyzone were one of the biggest boybands of the 90s, and for the first time in over 30 years, the band's surviving members - Ronan Keating, Keith Duffy, Shane Lynch and Mikey Graham - open up on their dramatic rise to fame in the brand new documentary Boyzone: No Matter What. The brand new Sky Original documentary chronicles the rise of one of Ireland's most successful exports; from their inception in 1993 to present day. During their time together, Boyzone scored six UK Number 1 singles and five UK Number 1 albums, enviable numbers indeed. Below, we've revealed their Top 40 biggest tracks ever in the UK, but before that, let's dive in and take a closer look at the Top 3. 3. When The Going Gets Tough Released: 1999 Official Singles Chart peak: Number 1 Total UK chart units: 767,000 A cover of the 1985 Billy Ocean original, When The Going Gets Tough was the pick for that year's Comic Relief single, and as such its star-studded video included cameos from the likes from Graham Norton, Davina McCall and even Mystic Meg (!). Hitting Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart (just like Billy Ocean's original did), When The Going Gets Tough became the band's fifth chart-topper in the UK. 2. Father and Son Released: 1995 Official Singles Chart peak: Number 2 Total UK chart units: 796,000 Another cover, this time from Yusuf/Cat Stevens (who released his original in 1970), Father and Son was released at around Christmas time 1995 - although it never got to Christmas Number 1, instead settling for second place. As of 2025, its streams in the UK now number more than 10 million. 1. No Matter What Released: 1998 Official Singles Chart peak: Number 1 Total UK chart units: 1.4 million No Matter What was Boyzone's fourth and longest-running Number 1, staying at the top of the Official Singles Chart for three weeks. It was written and composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Jim Steinman, given that it was taken from their musical Whistle Down The Wind. Boyzone's take on the track was engineered to tie in with the show's UK launch. Perhaps their most enduring single, Whistle Down The Wind was also included on the soundtrack for the popular romcom Notting Hill, which helped it become their first (and only) track to receive success in the US, although it did fail to enter the US Billboard Hot 100. With 1.4 million chart units, it's Boyzone's biggest track in the UK, and has shifted over 1 million pure copies here, thanks to its physical purchase numbers. It takes second place as their second-most streamed track in the UK (35 million streams), taking second place to 1997's Picture Of You (36 million streams). 9. I have to say I’ve never really understood leaving songs off an album just because they didn’t do as well as expected. Surely it’s better to have a couple of underperforming songs on there that at least some people will recognise than an album full of totally new songs? As you say, what is to say there will be any form of hits on this album?

Not the double certifications for Peppa Pig!! :cheeseblock:
  12. This has been my relationship with it too (same with ‘Like a Virgin’) but I’m firmly in the love camp now. I think I’ve previously begrudged it for being the first song people associate with Madonna when I know there’s so many really fantastic songs in her career that get overlooked. I think that’s how Madonna feels too.
  13. Forgot all about this! This really highlights how similar the production on ‘Material Girl’ is to ‘Can You Feel It’ by Jackson 5, which obviously The Tamperer sampled on the single previous, ‘Feel It’.
  14. x46eGbMky-4 30 January 1990 saw 'Keep It Together' released as the sixth single overall from 'Like a Prayer'. Whilst the UK and select European countries had 'Dear Jessie' as the final release of the album, North America received 'Keep It Together', a song that deals with the realisation of how important family is. The album version is a tribute to Sly and the Family Stone with its funk-infused sound, although the production was stripped back and replaced with an R&B-house beat for the single mix. It reached #8 in the US and, in the process, Madonna broke the record for most Top 10s by a female solo artist. In Australia, 'Keep It Together' was a double A-side with 'Vogue' and reached #1. No video was filmed, but the song is remembered as the Blond Ambition Tour's closing performance, inspired by A Clockwork Orange and Cabaret. 35 years on, what are your thoughts and memories of 'Keep It Together'? 15. Someone has put AI Madonna vocals on FKA Twigs' 'Girl Feels Good' but it's actually done very well! Really highlights the 'Ray of Light' influence. a-APBggouC8
  16. Wow, what an album! I've been listening to it all week and I'm uncovering new things about it each time, which is sign of a strong album. I know this is an obvious comparison but I hear so much similarity to Kate Bush in the sense that I don't even need to understand the meaning of the lyrics, the things she does with her voice and how it compliments the production just tells its own story. The title track is my favourite - a stunning song with a captivating video. I'm really into the Anyma remix as well, really captures the spirit of the original and transforms it into a hypnotic club track. 'Perfect Stranger' is for sure the most accessible but feels totally at home here. I've seen 'Girl Feels Good' in particular be compared to Madonna's 'Ray of Light' album - I don't disagree, but I picked up more similarities with the French duo Air. 'Room of Fools' reminds me A LOT of Chicane's 'Poppiholla'. Other highlights for me are 'Keep It, Hold It' (love the way jerks in another direction mid-way) and, yes really, 'Childlike Things'! I think that is such a bop and doesn't disrupt the album whatsoever, only enhances! It's only January but it's going to be tough to shift this as my favourite album of 2025.
  17. 'Good As Gone' that low! :o

  19. 'Ray of Light' album has been experiencing a bit of a boost on Spotify thanks to comparisons to FKA Twigs' album. The update for Friday saw the album achieve its best day since 31 July 2024 with 160k combined streams (15% up on the previous day and 11% up on the same day the week before and Monday's update saw it reach 163k streams (best day since 27 July). 20. Yeah I think the song is totally hideous. Can't even enjoy it ironically. I can see it becoming a hit but I hope its success is very flash-in-the-pan.
  21. The Sun are usually spot on when it comes to showbiz to be fair. For some reason I never expected Charli to perform anyway so I'm happy her pulling out is a win for Jade! I can envision an 'Angel of My Dreams'/'It Girl' mash-up.
  22. What a 1-2 punch 'Like a Virgin' and 'Material Girl' were for Madonna! She may not have had a hand in writing either of them but they both capture what she wanted her music to say at the time so well. I prefer 'Material Girl' of the two and it's been one that I've grown to love a lot more than I have in the past. It's a shame it didn't get a big TV performance; I know she appeared and presented an award at the American Music Awards (one of my favourite 80s Madonna looks) and a song this iconic deserves a memorable TV performance. From the tour performances, Re-invention and Rebel Heart are my faves: kQwuAVJ4TnI swoWs3n_7Qs
  23. 6p-lDYPR2P8 23 January 1985 saw the release of 'Material Girl', the second single from Madonna's second album, 'Like a Virgin'. The lyrics provide a satirical message of materialism and Madonna played upon this with the music video, paying homage to Marilyn Monroe's performance of 'Diamonds Are a Girls Best Friend' in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, which was interspersed with scenes of her being won over by a man that shows love through flowers, not expensive gifts. It was another big worldwide hit and has held up as one of Madonna's signature songs, currently her third most streamed song on Spotify. Share your thoughts and memories of 'Material Girl' below!
  24. Precise first week sales for 'Walk This Way' are 51,370 (source).
