Some pleasant surprises on this list! The first being 'My Heart Will Go On' not being Celine's most streamed, but I suppose 'It's All Coming Back to Me Now' had its viral moment a few years back and appears on an advert. I knew 'I'm Alive' was a good streamer as it went Platinum last year despite peaking at #17 in 2002, but wasn't sure where it would place on her overall streaming list. It's nice to see her uptempos taking up spots in the Top 10 - 'I'm Alive', 'That's the Way It Is' and 'I Drove All Night' place among my favourite Celine Dion songs, plus I think the Steve Aoki remix of 'Ashes' makes up a good number of its streams. 'Happy Xmas' was certified Silver last year, so it seems her back catalogue streams pretty well, at least for the Top 11. I was surprised to see 'Falling Into You' album track, 'I Love You' - maybe it gets a boost around Valentine's Day? Would have been nice for some of her earlier songs to show up, namely my two favourites 'Where Does My Heart Beat Now' and 'If You Asked Me To'.

It's a Y2K-era classic that enjoyed a surprising second life on TikTok when Canadian mash-up maestro Jammin Kid spliced it with the 1970s funk tune And the Beat Goes On. It's the theme to Titanic, the fourth highest-grossing film of all time, and it won an Oscar in 1998. Her incredible, seven-and-a-half minute version of It's All Coming Back to Me Now was actually the second to make the Official Singles Chart – the original recording by girl-group Pandora's Box peaked at Number 51 in 1989. This gargantuan power ballad was written by Jim Steinman, who's most known for crafting many of Meat Loaf's signature songs. Meat Loaf wanted to record It's All Coming Back to Me Now for years, but finally got his way in 2006, when his duet version with Marion Raven became a UK Number 6 hit. Deadline has announced Madonna has teamed up with Shawn Levy and Netflix for a limited series on her life... with Julia Garner rumoured to play her!

I don't think there's many, but one I think should happen some time soon is Silver for 'The Loco-motion' as it never received a certification back in the day. Sold about 376k in the 80s which increased to 434k in 2018 (pure sales). Streams accounted for about 110k in 2023, giving an overall total of 544k and about 30k off of achieving 200k sales in the digital era.

Hasn't it just?! It feels a bit strange that this day has finally come. I'll always be eager to see more Kylie certifications every time I the BPI site updates each Friday, but I can chill a bit now that 'Slow' has finally reached Silver. It took 303 weeks to sell 46k, which works out at 152 chart sales per week on average, which is pretty much what I suspected it was selling. Next in line for Silver... potentially 'Where the Wild Roses Grow' which I think it is at least over 190k by now. It was 5 places above 'Slow' on Kylie's most streamed songs which suggest its averaging higher; it was also one place higher than 'Wow' which was averaging 220 per week between 2019 and 2022. 220 chart sales would put 'Roses' at 191k and 247 chart sales would mean it was at 200k right now.

It's a week old but this tweet has the list of all the songs:

'Kids' sold 283k as of the w/e 25th July 2019, meaning it has averaged 389 chart sales per week. I suspected it would be certified Gold this year but didn't think it would be this soon in the year. I'm desperately waiting for 'Slow' to go Silver before anything else! 'On a Night Like This' is on track to be Kylie's next Gold certified song but I estimate it to be about 300k, so it's a long way off yet.

Madonna did set the record for most plays in a week with 'Beautiful Stranger'. It was also the #1 radio hit of 1999, making Madonna the first female soloist to achieve this since current records began (which admittedly was only 6 years prior). Kylie's debut album has outsold all of Madonna's studio albums. It was the biggest album of 1988 which is something I don't think Madonna has done.

I do like that the album cover looks very 00s pop princess inspired, I just don't like that it doesn't match the vibe of the music at all.

Mine lets me play everything in my library but when I go to search songs it says there's no internet connection. Glad it's not just me because I was about to chuck my Wifi box out the window. 😂

It's 40 years since Madonna commenced her debut tour, aptly titled The Virgin Tour. The tour saw Madonna perform across North America from April to June 1985 in support of her first two albums. Beastie Boys were the opening act and Patrick Leonard - who would go on to work on Madonna's next two albums - directed the tour. Tickets were sold out and grossed $5m revenue. The Detroit show was recorded and released on VHS as Madonna Live: The Virgin Tour, however performances of 'Angel', 'Borderline' and 'Burning Up' were cut.

'S&M' - love the original and whilst I don't totally dislike the Britney remix, her vocals are very jarring on it. 'Work' - catchy but just doesn't hit the same standard as a lot of songs here. Controversial perhaps but I'll be gunning for 'What's My Name' after this.
