Giving You Up ● 20 years on
Funny that one of Kylie's most forgotten singles was home to one of her most celebrated B-sides! What's everyone's thoughts on 'Made of Glass'? It's another Xenomania produced song that I could see fitting Girls Aloud like a glove, it's not a million miles away from something like 'Swinging London Town'. Apparently this one was recorded by Rachel Stevens.

Giving You Up ● 20 years on
It's definitely one of her most forgotten singles but strangely that works in its favour for me, like when I listen to my Kylie playlist and this comes on, it's nice to just to a straight up bop without all the fanfare. Just had a look at the midweeks from the time and 'Giving You Up' started off at #3! It had fallen to #3 by Thursday ('Let Me Love You' by Mario and new release 'It's Like That' by Mariah Carey moved ahead) before falling to #6 officially (overtaken by 'Candy Shop' by 50 Cent). It was a lower selling chart the following week so it could have been #3 if held back. I know Kylie had started touring at this point but it's a shame we didn't get a TOTP or any other televised performance for this. We only have the Showgirl Tour performance which I forget even exists as Kylie dropped the song for Showgirl Homecoming in favour of 'White Diamond'. I'm definitely intrigued to hear Girls Aloud's version, I can hear them singing it in my head.

Giving You Up ● 20 years on
It's 20 years today since the release of 'Giving You Up', the second single from the compilation 'Ultimate Kylie'. Produced by Xenomania, this electropop song follows an unusual structure - the chorus first appears at the halfway point - and features vocals that are more spoken than sung. It was a Top 10 in Australia, Spain and the UK, although it does rank as one of Kylie's lowest selling singles in the latter. In 2023, Nicola Roberts revealed that Girls Aloud had recorded 'Giving You Up' and were surprised to hear Kylie's version on the radio. 20 years on, what are your thoughts and memories of 'Giving You Up'?

Take a Bow ● 30 years on
UK airplay chart run for 'Take a Bow': NE: 85 (first entry: 05/11/94) 1w RE: 29-12-12-*13*-6-6-4-8-8-21-29-45-74-83 (second entry: 26/11/94) 14w RE: 53-84-97-50 (third entry: 18/03/95) 4w Total: 19w *The week it debuted at #17 on the official chart Maybe not to the extent of being a seven week #1, but I'm not surprised 'Take a Bow' did well in the US. Madonna had already scored big radio hits with 'I'll Remember' and 'Secret', which in turn brought strong chart runs, so a Babyface-produced song was always going to be bigger. She also performed it with Babyface at the AMAs, shortly before the song climbed to #1.

Take a Bow ● 30 years on
Yes that's right, just the edit, album version and instrumental on the CD. Shame as there was the InDaSoul mix and Silky Soul mix on physical editions in other territories. Meanwhile, 'Bedtime Story' had two CDs from what I can see, which helped it debut Top 5!

Take a Bow ● 30 years on
It's one explanation but Madonna had achieved hits in December many times before, I guess her chart fortunes were less in 1994 than they were in the 80s but 'Take a Bow' feels like the sort of song that should go Top 10 with ease. Don't know the weekly sales for 'Take a Bow' but this was the threshold for the Top 10 (sales estimates from Gezza, I think these are pre-downgrade): #17 (#10: 27,000) #16 (#10: 38,000) #18 (#10: 57,000) #21 (#10: 22,000) 'Take a Bow' sold 81k in those four weeks. That might work out at ~15k, ~25k, ~35k, ~10k. Not a good time for female ballads with Kylie's 'Put Yourself in My Place' also missing out on the Top 10. To add insult to injury, Zig & Zag and Power Rangers were Top 10.

Take a Bow ● 30 years on
30 years ago, Madonna was enjoying a seven week stint at the top of the US charts with 'Take a Bow'. The song was produced with Babyface who had enjoyed success with a number of smooth R&B hits; together, they created an orchestra, poetic song of requited love. The radio-friendly sound was praised highly by critics and allowed the single to be a huge success in the US, becoming her 11th #1 and 9th with a writing credit, breaking Carole King's 30 year record for most number ones as a female songwriter. It was also a #1 in Canada and reached the top 10 in Finland, Italy, New Zealand and Switzerland, however only reached #16 in the UK, becoming the first out of 35 singles to miss the Top 10. 30 years on, share your thoughts and memories of 'Take a Bow'.

Tension II Survivor - FINAL ROUND
Calling this a win for 'Lights Camera Action'? But jeez at being so close. Each to their own, of course, but I really don't understand the 'Someone for Me' love. It's easily the worst song here. 'Midnight Ride' should be lower and 'Edge of Saturday Night' higher - and I think last place for 'My Oh My' is harsh, but understand it has its haters and even get why it's not liked - but the other results are more or less what I expected.

'Freedom of the Night' is up there with one of her best for me and this one sounds promising too!- EastEnders
Yeah the actress Aaliyah James is 24 (25 in June) but I'm totally convinced by her playing a teen and it means we get to see strong material like this.- Doctor Who • 2023-
20 years since the 2005 revival! This Twitter thread is absolutely hilarious: The Long Game = "how's Adam?" Rise of the Cyberman = "I'm 39 actually" The Lazarus Experiment = "Shut up I'm not 70" The Last of the Time Lords = rhythmic tapping on door Turn Left = Jane's dream Just a few highlights that had me screaming. 😂- The Residence: Netflix Drama

Tonight's episode was fantastic. I was totally engaged all the way through, to the point I didn't even think I was watching people act. Uncomfortable viewing at times, but realistically so. I completely believe Priya and Avani with their relationship. Loved the supporting appearance from Suki and even Jean who's annoyed me so much recently. It's definitely nice to see some more investment in Priya away from just the catty remarks (which are great as well) and in Avani who is definitely a future star. Shoutout to Monday's episode too with the focus on Avani, Amy and Lily. I thought the conversations flowed really well and felt like they were being spoken by young teenagers, rather than adults writing how they think teenagers speak. Not been active in here the past month but I've also loved the developments with the NuMitchells - ADORE Nicola, I liked Teddy anyway but glad a bit of fire has been given to him, and Harry is seriously proving himself. Also anything to do with Bianca - I hope to see her pop in and out again in the future.- The Residence: Netflix Drama
I love the clip of Kylie swearing, it's all over my Twitter feed! How many times has Kylie been #1 in the UK? "Seven. F*cking. Times"- Clarks shoes advert uses In My Arms
I'd say it was over 100k now, maybe 105k. The advert is cute, I agree the song actually works well despite the title. 😂 I feel like it's a song people will have forgotten they knew and be pleased to be reminded of. I also think it would have been a bigger hit in the physical era.- what song goes like eh ha ha eh ha ha dobby down bo son belise
This was my first thought! 😂- Kylie ● UK Chart Runs & Sales
It had sold 555k by w/e 31st October 2024, so an average of 2,143 units a week since then. Thrilled 'Padam Padam' is Platinum! 'Spinning Around' should be next - it was averaging 700 units between July 2019 and August 2020 (when it went Gold) which would put it on 565k, but it could be averaging more nowadays. 'All the Lovers' and 'Love at First Sight' should get there in the next few years too.- Bedtime Story ● 30 years on
This one took a long time to even "get" never mind like, but I do really like it now. The production is really strong, love the electronic pulses and the scattering of industrial sounds, it's like one moment the song is calming and the next it's unsettling. I suppose diving into the unconsciousness can bring retracted thoughts to the surface. Also, the way 'Bedtime Story' emerges from the end of 'Sanctuary' on the album is just chef's kiss. The Junior Vasquez remix acts a solid commercial companion piece. I was going to say its use on the BRIT Awards performance must have really helped give the single its #4 peak in the UK but, it turns out, the BRITs effect was in week 2 (when the single fell 4-8). Makes it all the more impressive that it out-peaked lead single 'Secret' (and outsold, 48k vs. 40k).- Living for Love ● 10 years on
This was such a step-up from 'Give Me All Your Luvin''. The production is strong and I think it helps that there's a real piano being played, it's just a shame that the vocals are super processed (they sound much better on earlier demos). It's annoying that the release was disrupted by the leaks as the promotion for the song was the best since 'Hung Up'! I thought it did well to reach #26 (#17 on sales) given the lack of radio support, but maybe it could have done better if the song hadn't been available to listen to since December. The video has a distinct look/theme, although I find the content a little basic, not many great shots of Madonna. Again, it's a shame to see so many filters used. She definitely nailed it with 'Ghosttown'. I remember playing this mash-up with Haddaway's 'What is Love' a lot at the time:- Girls Aloud: The Girls Aloud Show
