  1. Brighton have agreed a £29.78m (35m euros) deal with Olympiakos for 18-year-old forward Charalampos Kostoulas.

The teenager was undergoing a medical with the club on Thursday, ahead of signing a five-year contract that will start on 1 July.

The deal represents by some distance the highest fee ever received by a Greek club, beating the £16.6m Wolves paid to sign Daniel Podence from Olympiakos in 2020.

  2. Manchester City have agreed a £12.5m deal with Rosenborg for Sverre Nypan.

Contract on the table is until 2030.

Nypan - a Norway U21 international - is considered one of the country's next top prospects and has been labelled the 'next Martin Odegaard'.

  4. Club World Cup officials will use an accelerated semi-automated offside technology that will tell them to stop the game immediately if a player who is more than 10cm offside touches the ball.

It is one of the most significant initiatives being introduced for the 32-team tournament in the US and is aimed at reducing needless delays.

Assistant referees will receive the notification instantly rather than having to wait for the technology to check positions and distances - as is the case with semi-automated offside (SAO) systems used in most major leagues.

SAO was introduced into the Premier League on 12 April, before which the video assistant referee (VAR) made all offside rulings.

The introduction of the enhanced SAO comes a month after Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi suffered a serious abdominal injury after crashing into a post during their Premier League draw against Leicester.

He had been chasing the ball despite a clear offside that had not been given.

Among the other developments in use at the tournament, which starts on Sunday, are:

    • Referees wearing body cams that allow live pictures to be shown immediately before the game and on delay during it.

    • An eight-second countdown for goalkeepers to release the ball.

    • VAR pictures shown to fans in real time inside the ground.

  5. Controversial changes to the statutes of Formula 1's governing body the FIA have been passed by members despite a warning the organisation is in a "dark period of democratic backsliding".

Austria's national motoring club, the OAMTC, criticised the statute changes in a letter to the FIA World Council for Automobile Mobility and Tourism (WCAMT) sent on Wednesday before Thursday's vote at the FIA's General Assembly in Macau.

The letter criticised FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem's leadership and urged members not to vote for changes proposed by Ben Sulayem - and revealed by BBC Sport last month - on the basis that they "risk further contributing to the erosion of the FIA's reputation for competent and transparent governance".

However, members voted for the amendments by 83.35% to 16.65%.

Amendments to the ethics code were voted through even more comprehensively, with an 88.83% majority.

He then took the Formula Regional Oceania Championship in February of this year, earning him enough points for a Super License once he turned 18.

I see that the UEFA European Under-21 Championship kicked off yesterday, it is taking place in Slovakia.

Live coverage of the U21 Championship is being shown live on Channel 4 and across their platforms including 4Seven and their YouTube channel.

    Group A:

    Spain 🇪🇸

    Italy 🇮🇹

    Slovakia 🇸🇰

    Romania 🇷🇴

    Group B:

    Czech Republic 🇨🇿

    England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

    Germany 🇩🇪

    Slovenia 🇸🇮

    Group C:

    Georgia 🇬🇪

    France 🇫🇷

    Portugal 🇵🇹

    Poland 🇵🇱

    Group D:

    Finland 🇫🇮

    Netherlands 🇳🇱

    Ukraine 🇺🇦

    Denmark 🇩🇰

  13. In Group H, we'll see an country make an return to the World Cup after an absence:

    Bosnia-Herzegovina: One appearance in 2014

Austria: Last appearance was in 1998

Romania: Last appearance was also in 1998.

Barring an miracle, it would be Cyprus's first World Cup and in odds probably triple the size of when Leicester City won the Premier League, San Marino.
