Absolutely, No idea why Daft-Punk wasn't straight onto the A-List either. It's two DJs record of the week, it's doing brilliantly on the chart, they're already playing it loads... What this probably means is they'll still be playing it long after the public has got bored of it.
  5. Taking the ethical side out if it I've got to admit this is an impressive chart campaign, so many just fall flat on their faces but this one is actually doing really well. That wasn't an endorsement just pointing out it's done well in comparison to how much of these campaigns do.

I listen to mostly Radio 1 so I don't know if other stations are any better/worse but Radio 1 aren't very good with OA/OS. First time round it was very notable I remember Jessie J Price Tag which went in at 1 on it's first week was on the A-List for far too long as it was bombing down the chart. As they didn't straight B-List/A-List it but treated it like a normal held back release. So by it's later weeks on the playlist it was becoming fairly irrelevant. There has been a bit of a new wave of OA/OS records which I think is a good thing but they seem unwilling to treat OA/OS tracks any differently to other tracks still. I think AlunaGeorge was more to do with the fact that they were playing the Disclosure track to be fair. For minor hits it's less noticeable like James Blake. But with something which was pretty huge to start with like Fall Out Boy by the time it's A-Listed it's languishing much lower in the chart. I think Radio 1 need to have a think about their policy regarding OA/OS obviously they aren't simply meant to reflect the public taste (otherwise Ant & Dec would be on the playlist) but having tracks on the A-List as they head down the chart seems odd. If I was in charge something like Fall Out Boy or the Jessie J example I used earlier would have been straight A-List or maybe B-List and then as the tracks loses some steam downgraded. Giving it a normal length of time on the playlist but also more in touch with the public's buying patterns.
  8. Obviously it depends on how long their chart run is but how long do you think artists ought to wait from the 'impact date' or time when there single peaks before moving onto the next one. Might be easier to think of it as people have such different chart-runs what is the ideal length of time for the old single to leave the top 40 before the next single is released. Just quite interested to hear what everyone thinks...

Pleased to see Hurts A-List, wonder why they ignored Miracle?

Don't think it's a coincidence that Aluna George have been added as Disclosure ft Aluna George has been dropped from the playlist. Think the playlist team must have ben reluctant to have both records on at the some time. (Whilst their a feature on the Disclosure record it's Aluna's vocals throughout not a rent a rap) I don't think we give radio 1 sufficent plaudits so I just have to say the A-List looks magnificent. Bastille, Ben Howard, Duke Dumont, Haim, Timberlake, Kodaline, Kendrick Lamar & The 1975. A load of great songs there, fantastic variety of genres and a lot of new(ish) artists. Well done Radio 1 !

Hurts snubbed by R1 & R2 :( A-List looks good though a real good range of artists on there. Shame that Foals & Asap have gone although they've really got behind them to be fair. Kodaline added to the C-List ! Surprised JT has gone perhaps they'll add Mirrors next week A bit surprised that The Saturdays have been added, I always expect them to be snubbed. Bridgit Mendler still C-List which I'm pleased about cannot stand it. Wasting space for better artists.

What was the fiasco last week? Hoping for Hurts, Haim, James Blake & Kodaline! Hope they stick to their guns and snub Kesha as well.
  16. Credit to Disclosure, Fall Out Boy & James Arthur: Really wouldn't expect them to be as high as they are. All OAOS successess. James Arthur in particular has done tremendously he's 2 in Australia this week.

I think Better Than Love was C-Listed and Wonderful Life B-Listed. The subsequent singles were then all A Listed on Radio 2

You know the BBC don't decide they ask "tastemakers" (about 300) who are various journalists and musos to say who they think will be big in 2013. I don't think they necessarily have to pick who will get the most number ones but who will release the best albums and can breakthrough into the public consciousness. Which is why there is never much pop there and in theory all the winners won't be in the same vein. It's odd a band had never won before but I think Haim are brilliant so I'm happy. I'm surprised Tom Odell missed the top 5 altogether.

I'll just add my thoughts to the Sean Paul argument. Every year around this time there is the big weekend and Radio 1 always playlist a ton of the acts performing, which makes sense so the radio 1 audience will be aware of all the artists on the bill and I have a suspicion that the promise of airplay may be one of the reasons they agree to play the big weekend. Look at the additions to this weeks C-List every single one of them bar Major Lazer is performing at the big weekend..This includes the rather unusual addition of Nas who is headlining the 1xtra stage on Sunday. Whose headlining the 1xtra stage on Saturday? Yep you've guessed it it's Sean Paul so perhaps that is why got 2 luv u has been playlisted...

I thought Foster The People had released Don't Stop about a month ago! Good moves up to A-List and I'm v.pleased that they've kept Chris Brown on the B-List I think Rita Ora will reach the A-List eventually now that she's moved up I'm pleased to see Sub Focus, fun & Frank Turner. I hope that Keaton Henson glorious Small Hands will be added soon..
