  1. What a depressing update  Marina lower than I hoped, Madonna falling hard despite Jonathan Ross...and the prospect of another Sam Smith double
  2. :o That seems a rather drastic solution to getting another top ten single
  3. The reverse for me - I was disappointed with Into the Blue whereas I'm enjoying Rebel Heart after some judicious pruning of songs Amen to that, they certainly are!
  4. It is what it is. Of course the leaks will have cost her some sales, but in truth we will never know to what extent they affected the album's success. We know she isn't the sales juggernaut she once was, but that doesn't mean she can't or won't continue to make music, which is surely what really matters. I hope she can hold onto No.1 and I hope Ghosttown will reach more people and keep the album selling - it deserves to outsell both Hardy Candy and MDNA - but at the end of the day what's important to me is I really like (most of) the album.
  5. Me too...GRL have had absolutely no radio support so I suppose it's not surprising Lighthouse is struggling, but Pray To God has - I don't get why it's underperfoming so badly. I honestly thought Haim would be enjoying their first top ten single this week. :(
  6. That would be my worst nightmare. No offence to Sam Smith fans, but....I just find his music dreary, and besides he's MORE than had his turn at the top of the album chart now.
  7. Previous to that - the ones I can remember (for what it's worth): Ray of Light: #1 - #1 Bedtime Stories: #2 - #4 Erotica: #2 - #2 Like A Prayer: #1 - #1 True Blue: #1 - #1
  8. I totally forgot it was Mothers Day this Sunday, yes that should help....which reminds me, I need to buy a present (not sure my Mum would appreciate a Madonna album as a gift).
  9. Ooh I'm so pleased - and relieved! I hope we get some sales numbers today...I'd love to see it top MDNA's first week (56K-ish?) but I'm not sure that's possible. I think it deserves to, anyway.
  10. Oops :( I should've kept my mouth shut...thanks anyway. I'm afraid to ask but...Is Madonna still top 40? EDIT: just seen, thanks
  11. Thanks - my memory isn't usually that reliable
  12. Great news about Noel! I hope Ballad of the Mighty I can go top 40 this week, I love that song. Does anyone know what his first week sales of the last album were? I have a feeling it was about 120 K - he was up against Matt Cardle I remember. I don't know what it sold overall but it seemed to have a good run.
  13. Great to see Madonna in the Top 30 again :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: - I really hope it can hold on to a decent position for Sunday. At the same time, it feels slightly depressing to be excited about a lead Madonna single being at #26...I can remember being outraged back in the day when Open Your Heart 'only' reached #4! For a long time it seemed she would always be a huge seller. Nevertheless I was afraid last week it might not be going to chart at all, so I'm trying to keep things in perspective. After more than 30 years it's pretty amazing to still be in contention.
  14. Sadly I don't think Madonna stands a chance - why they are releasing on Thursday I can't imagine, it won't even be available for impulse buyers right after the Brits. Crazy. I also tend to think the addition of streaming works against artists with an older average fanbase. I'd love to be wrong but I can see it missing the chart altogether. Hopefully the album will still do well...I think if Ghost Town is to be the second single as I've heard, it could get better airplay at least.
  15. Tbh I'd take that with a pinch of salt...I remember soon after Artpop came out she tweeted about 'celebrating 1.2 million copies' when it had actually sold about 670K. I am surprised it hasn't even made the Top 10 in the first update though.

You could well be right - but that doesn't mean her new material won't be good in its own right. I prefer to remain optimistic!

Looks fab!! I can't wait!
  18. 1. Coldplay 2. Katy Perry 3. Olly Murs / Rizzle Kicks Sorry, those are the only three I like really

Hardly - this is Madonna we're talking about, she's still 'relevant' without any help. I'm SO excited about the Lana Del Rey album  I hope it's not a disappointment after the two cracking singles.
  20. Totally agree - as long as they sell enough to keep going, I'm happy.
  21. What a classy comment <_< Out of those options, I've chosen Coldplay, I also liked Echoes, 21 (ooh I'm a sheep) and Ceremonials. I thought BTW absolutely stank.

Amazing isn't it? I love the album - but even so I never expected it to hold as well as it has.

When anyone has a spare minute, can I ask where Coldplay are in the albums please?

Gobsmacked by Rebecca's sales, very pleased for her. And Paradise is finally Top 10!!!! :cheer:

As Kylie's Aphrodite Live is charting this week, can I ask - how do the sales from these Live CD/DVD combos work? Do they appear in both the album and the DVD charts? I notice with both Kylie and Madonna's previous Live releases, you can often buy them in a CD case or a DVD case - so is that how they split the sales?? Sorry if these are age-old questions but I've never quite understood if they are valid for both charts or not
