iTunes Weekly Thread W/C 5th February 2016
I wonder if the video effect will be huge with Work as sometimes is the case with Rihanna. Considering it's now available to stream everywhere, and with possible Grammy/Brits performances, it could have a lot of life left yet.

Spotify Chart Thread 2016, Part I
I wonder if Work has potential to climb, lots of people says its a grower. Being on the chart will probably help

Friday Chart Predictions (Wed Update + Top 5 Sales)
Okay that's true now, but those 15 hours were enough. Tidal celebrated 1 million subscribers in October 2015 following an entire year of release (from October 2014). Then Rihanna gained 1 million more subscribers in less than a day with ANTI. Seems like a success to me.

Friday Chart Predictions (Wed Update + Top 5 Sales)
Remember that this album campaign was essentially an attack on spotify's market share. Rihanna is a heavy stakeholder in Tidal, and this exclusive has really put their brand back on the map, after everybody kind of forgot about it mid last year. With enough major exclusives, Tidal can and potentially will work its way into the market in a big way. People who listen to Rihanna and Kanye West and Beyonce albums are the kind of young adults who are very clued in with technology and will decide the future of the digital music industry in the next 10 or so years, which is obviously a huge deal. This is about more than a 100k opening week or whatever. There is way bigger money at stake. I don't like this album campaign, let's be honest it's been a horrible mess. We would all rather see a clean release to reflect how in demand an artist is, but the truth is I think we will start to see more ANTI-type releases which have an alterior motive.

Friday Chart Predictions (Wed Update + Top 5 Sales)
What he/she means is that what matters to Rihanna is not the actual sales and chart placing, it is being HEARD and appreciated. The literal numbers, however, don't reflect that with her campaign. And the #1 chart placement across the world is clearly not a big deal, because this move was chart suicide, both for 'Work' and 'Anti'.

Friday Chart Predictions (Wed Update + Top 5 Sales)
Okay I'm bored of seeing people slamming or justifying Rihanna's numbers. It is literally quite impossible to gauge the impact of ANTI's unconventional album release on the sales. The market dynamics and consumer behaviour cannot just be analysed by some simplistic layman thinking such as "oh but REAL fans would still buy the album anyway!" quoted earlier in this thread. There are genuinely hundreds more factors at play here, it is more complicated than that. Everybody acquires their products in different ways, gets their information about new music from different places and make hugely varying decisions about their purchasing behaviour. That is economics 101. You can say that you think Rihanna's star is fading and it may be true because she is no longer releasing smash hits. So musically she may be less omnipresent but at the same time, her brand is bigger now. We can't tell much from the numbers. Like literally how do we go about calculating how many sales were substituted to free downloads. With a conventional release Work would've been an easy, easy number 1 on nearly any week of the year. And Anti the same.

With all do respect, nobody cares about "to you". We care about the reality, which you clearly don't have a grasp of.

iTunes Weekly Thread W/C 29th January 2016
Lol! Of course the song leans slightly more to R&B than the typical 1D. But at the end of the day it still passes a pop song easily. It's like One Direction with a twist, instead of actual Zayn Malik as a new/progressive artist. It's very clever production choices from them, but it's still not in line with the massive amount of distancing he has done with the band.

This song is stunning. I think it will do well.

iTunes Weekly Thread W/C 29th January 2016
The Zayn song is fine, he has a great recording voice, but it sounds like One Direction so he has essentially lost his credibility from day 1. Slightly embarrassing.

iTunes Weekly Thread W/C 22nd January 2016
Lol. Or not. She really couldnt care less about charting... Rihanna has already blown her entire generation of pop stars out the water with singles, and this song is not destined to go #1 everywhere anyway, so it's not important.

Calculated PR move I'm sure but at the same time that is very sweet of him. Aw.

Omg 1 update and already 0.35

iTunes Weekly Thread W/C 2nd October 2015
Alone No More is just such a STANDARD song now. It's so status quo and generic for 2015, how are songs like this still going #1?

iTunes, Weather & Justin Bieber W/C 28th August 2015
Also the official video is coming this week too.

iTunes, Weather & Justin Bieber W/C 28th August 2015
Justin only has 2 updates and he has already pushed #2 down to 0.55 so I would think twice about ruling him out. The first day sales are going to be insane, also we don't know where it will stabilise AFTER the fall. The song has quite high mass appeal, and a VMA performance to come

Lol if Justin blocks Demi! I actually love Cool for the Summer but I'd still be here for the drama if she misses it.

Friday Chart Predictions (Thursday Update + Top 5 Sales)
It will be close obviously but it certainly looks as though Jess will most probably take it.

Top 200 Biggest Acts Of The Last 35 Years
Mariah's placing is extremely impressive given that some people mistakenly write her off as a non factor in the UK!
-
Top 200 Biggest Acts Of The Last 35 Years
I'm guessing Rihanna's 2010 is very impressive. And without much competiton.

Top 200 Biggest Acts Of The Last 35 Years
So if an act sold over 1.5 million in both 2000 and 2001, will you add the percentage totals for both years, or just take the largest?

iTunes Weekly Thread W/C 1st March 2015
Is Jess Glynne really a lock for #1 in 3 weeks time? The song is a bit... run of the mill, in my opinion. It lacks the bite of 'Right Here'.

Sunday Chart Predictions (Fri Update + Top 5 Sales)
Rihanna haters *rolls eyes* Can you not? You may not love this song but its obvious it deserves AT LEAST a top 3 peak. Lack of streaming screwed it over until now... But regardless, it is a huge success and has been holding top 3 on iTunes pretty much since release 6 weeks ago. I hardly think Marlon Roudette deserves a higher placing.

I think spotify guarantees a #2 peak but Ellie might be difficult to topple.
