Fictional artists in the top 10
Thought of a couple more: Jilted John- Jilted John (4) BC-52s (apparently a fictionalised version of the B-52s!)- Meet The Flintstones (3)

Fictional artists in the top 10
Already got that one! What is it with early 90s songs making fictional characters emcees? Mario's voice isn't on the song! Thanks for the contributions Gezza, how did I not think of Jive Bunny...😁

30. Elton John- Tiny Dancer (788 points) Writers: Elton John, Bernie Taupin Producer: Gus Dudgeon UK chart peak: 70 (1 week in the top 100) Achieved platinum status on 02/08/2019, 2x platinum 24/12/2021, 3x platinum 16/08/2024 Top scorers: jimwatts 46, Mack 45, Jason 41, Maestro 41, Slick 41 Lowest scorers: Scone1 3, rio309 4, Uls2000 6 The opening track on Elton's 1971 album Madman Across The Water is one of Elton's best-known and best-loved songs. The lyrics were written by Bernie Taupin who was inspired by his first trip to California and the girls he met there, as well as his then-wife Maxine Feibelman. Due to its length it was not released as a single in the UK. It charted for the first time in 2015 after it was used in a John Lewis advert.

Fictional artists in the top 10
Were they credited as the characters they played? If they performed using the actors' names I probably wouldn't count them...

Still disagree with viewing Amazon as illegitimate. Not everyone who uses Amazon asks Alexa to play music, believe it or not there's an audience who will seek out Alex Warren 😂

Thoughts on 35-31 She's Electric- my least favourite of the 3 Oasis finalists but still one of the songs I'm most fond of by them. Liam is at his most listenable here! We did well on the 3 Oasis finalists we chose, good job everyone 😁 Brown Eyed Girl- it's fine, one of the 60s classics I don't really care for. Doesn't really help that Morrison doesn't come across as a likeable person. TIL it was played at Rik Mayall's funeral 😢 maybe I should think more fondly of it now... Blackbird- beautiful song, really touching. Paul is probably my favourite Beatle when it comes to their songwriting and this definitely makes a great case for him! Prefer their other two finalists though Ain't No Mountain High Enough- undeniably a classic, really hard for a 60s Motown track to miss imo. Only thing I have against it is that their vocals are so powerful they peak the mic and it's pretty unpleasant, if they released a remastered version which remedies this it would be a fair bit higher in my ranking! Proud Mary- can't believe this wasn't at least in the top 20, what a song! One of my earliest music memories was listening to this song, young me loved it when it got faster. One of the few covers superior to the original.

31. Tina Turner- Proud Mary (771 points) Writer: John Fogerty Producers: Chris Lord-Alge, Tina Turner, Roger Davies UK chart peak: 44 (2 weeks in the top 100) Achieved platinum status on 15/07/2022 Top scorers: AaronTM 50, Slick 50, GreyAsh 46, …ready for it 46 Lowest scorers: Mack 1, WhoOdyssey 1, Jaz13music 5 Originally performed by Creedence Clearwater Revival in 1969, peaking at number 8 in the UK, the best known version of "Proud Mary" is the rendition with Tina Turner on vocals. Tina first performed the song in 1970 with then-husband Ike, and re-recorded the song by herself in 1993 for the soundtrack to the film about her life What's Love Got To Do With It, likely to distance herself from Ike. The song starts slow (or "nice and easy") like the original CCR version, then becomes drastically faster and louder ("nice and rough"). Tina's version charted for the first time in 2010 after an X Factor cover, and peaked following her death in 2023. Two 50 pointers put this ahead of Marvin and Tammi who had a top score of 49 points.

Oop can now add Soda Pop to this- Saja Boys become the first fictional act since Geraldine to have multiple top 10 hits! And two fictional acts both have had top 10 hits with a song called "Soda Pop", the other of course being Bo Selecta's Craig David, proper Bo!

32. Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell- Ain't No Mountain High Enough (771 points) Writers: Nickolas Ashford, Valerie Simpson Producers: Harvey Fuqua, Johnny Bristol UK chart peak: 80 (5 weeks in the top 100) Achieved platinum status on 19/10/2018, 2x platinum 02/07/2021, 3x platinum 04/08/2023, 4x platinum 31/01/2025 Top scorers: AaronTM 49, Slick 49, Cymro87 46 Lowest scorers: WhoOdyssey 2, Chez Wombat 3, Mack 5 This Motown classic is the most successful song released by the label in the digital era. Dusty Springfield wanted to record the single originally but Ashford and Simpson declined her offer in the hopes of building a connection with Motown. Marvin and Tammi's version was the first version of the song to be released and reached number 19 in the US. It failed to chart in the UK until 2013 thanks to iTunes discounting, and became a strong streamer following its use in 2014's Guardians Of The Galaxy. Fellow Motown artist Diana Ross' version reached number 6 in 1970.

33. The Beatles- Blackbird (765 points) Writer: Paul McCartney, John Lennon Producer: George Martin UK chart peak: did not chart Achieved platinum status on 11/04/2024 Top scorers: Uls2000 46, chartjack2 44, …ready for it 43 Lowest scorers: Nick F1 1, Cymro87 4, Mack 4 Taken from the Beatles' 1968 album, Paul wrote "Blackbird" after hearing a blackbird's chirps while the band were in India. The lyrics were inspired directly by the civil rights movement in America. Only Paul performs on the track and he was its sole writer despite the Lennon-McCartney credit.

Friday Chart Predictions
Like their songs but don't think they'll be contending for number one- their last album reached number 9 with 5,108 sales. Download sales are extremely low so iTunes probably isn't the best indicator of what will be number one.

34. Van Morrison- Brown Eyed Girl (763 points) Writer: Van Morrison Producer: Bert Berns UK chart peak: 60 (6 weeks in the top 100) Achieved platinum status on 11/05/2018, 2x platinum 30/04/2021, 3x platinum 07/07/2023, 4x platinum 31/01/2025 Top scorers: Mack 47, Maestro 43, GreyAsh 40 Lowest scorers: …ready for it 3, Scone1 5, Jade 8 Based on certification dates, this is tied with "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" as the most successful single from the 60s in the digital era though it is likely that this track is ahead. Originally called "Brown Skinned Girl", the title was changed when Morrison subconsciously sung "brown eyed" instead. It was his first solo single after a successful period with Them and reached number 10 in the US. It failed to chart in the UK initially and only charted for the first time in 2013 after iTunes discounting. The song almost made the 2024 year end list thanks to really strong streaming. Morrison claims he has never received royalties for the song and refuses to perform it live, calling it one of his worst songs.

35. Oasis- She's Electric (749 points) Writer: Noel Gallagher Producers: Owen Morris, Noel Gallagher UK chart peak: did not chart Achieved platinum status on 25/06/2021, 2x platinum 25/10/2024 Top scorers: Mangø 49, CowTzy 42, Uls2000 42 Lowest scorers: Jaz13music 1, Julian_ 4, detonate 6, seven. 6 Back to back Oasis! Track 9 on Morning Glory was originally going to be included on Definitely Maybe but was replaced by "Digsy's Diner" which the band thought was a better live song. It was never released as a single. It would've made the top 40 when Oasis announced their reunion in 2024 but the 3-track rule prevented this. Just one more track from the band left now...
