After last week, when we had the most exciting singles chart of 2026, we are back to dull and duller!

I wonder if "Where is gone" can still overtake to become the third Fontaines DC track on the Friday chart?

We may find out if the modern singles chart is actually fit for purpose this week. There is genuine exciting new music in pop, country and rock spheres released this week. If they are kept out by ancient songs clogging it all up then rules will need to change. Can you imagine if there had been streaming in the 1980's and some of those classic hits but would never have happened due to people still listening to 1960's/1970a music? Lets hope Zach Bryan (and Lana Del Rey), Fontaines DC (and Rosalia), Justice, Tate McRae can all make an impact.

One new entry outside of the Taylor Swift trio, 2026 truly the year the music charts died! Only a few weeks left before the excitement of those new Christmas songs!

And this used to be the time when all the huge tracks came out for the pre Christmas market to generate sales. One new entry into the top 100 following a sustained period of few ew songs. Surely the OCC have to act!

I thought Nicole Kidman track would be top 40. I doubt either of those 2 new entries will hold. Should TLC be getting a reset too?

It is getting ever more difficult for any tracks to break through.

I would like to see Tove Lo go top 100 this week.

Unless chart rules change, Ordinary could be in this top 100 in 10 years time!

A very exciting chart battle and I do think Choosin Texas is a deserved No1. That said it is another song from 2025. It will be interesting to know if 2026 will have the least new charted songs from their actual year in history. Must be going back to 1950s!

Another week and just 4 new entries to top 100 and 3 of them are basically Ariana Grande albums picks! This surely cannot go on!

Really liking that Adela track "Ain't in LA". Lets hope its a top 40 smash. As for discussion on previous singers to chart from her country. I cannot recall anyone from Slovakia before.

Hoping that Audrey Hobert and Pupsies could sneak into top 40. Maybe Cameron Whitcomb in a few weeks. if ACR was working properly then they would have chances of doing so.

The other issue with new entries becoming rarer, is that the UK singles chart which was known for its variety. has lost what made it special. There was something for everyone and all genres, musical tastes. But with only 1 new entry and that from Gracie Abrams who already had other songs in the top 100 and last week 3 new entries, how can people latch onto new artists and discover new music. I do think a review is necessary or Mr Brightside will be in the charts this time 10 years later! I do think first week streams should be weighted higher or older songs continually reduce their stream value every few weeks.

At this rate, there won't be enough new songs for the Now compilations.

One new entry in the top 100 update!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Three new entries in the entire top 100! Feck its woeful. Maybe just end the singles chart altogether. it doesn't resemble anything worth keeping. How will the next generation have nostalgia for the excitement of the charts?

It really is getting tougher for new songs and artists to break through. Surely a rethink is required. Some songs in that top 100 are never ever leaving!

#90 HUGEL & SOLTO - Jamaican (Bam Bam) (NEW) #95 Saxboy Billy - The Puerto Rico Song (NEW) The only 2 new entries in entire top 100, this must be the worst chart ever. In fact is it even a singles chart anymore? I do not understand Wonderwall being reset yet again either.

Its even worse than we thought, after the supposed clear out, no new entries to the top 40 and only 3 new in the entire top 100 , Myles Smith, Hugel and an AI track! Music in 2026 really is fantastic, no wonder so many oldies about!

Loving all the fresh music, a Scottish football song and well that's about it. Who knew it would get to this state?

Listening to those Drake tracks, they are abysmal, do people really want to listen to that nonsense in 2026. Even worse they are currently the only songs released in 2026 in that top 10 and this past the mid point of May 2026! As for Eurovision, I thought more than 1 would be showing up by now going by past years. All very dismal. I do think new chart rules required. Some of those songs may never ever leave the chart!

Any sign of the Eurovision songs? Are they not usually showing up by now?
