I note Daft Punk and "Get lucky" is at No40 in the midweeks with two versions on itunes between 40 and 80, similarly Kristen Bell has two versions of her Frozen hit in the same band. I wonder if that has an outside chance of a top 40 hit if it grows slightly more this week? Go Veronica Mars!

I wonder if Idina Menzel and "Let it go" has a chance of reaching the top 40 this week. Although not a fan of this type of music it would still be nice to see a famous Broadway musical actress get a UK hit as it is quite unusual for that type of genre to chart.

Surely Arcade Fire and Ben Pearce can enter the top 40 by Sunday? I would like to think so!

Any chance Miguel can enter the top 40 this week? He has two versions of "Adorn" in itunes, one in the 60's and other 110's. Macklemore and Mary Lambert should also enter by sunday which is great to see. Well done to Shane Filan, always better than some of the material he was given with Westlife and this is a very good song.

I thought of another Eurovision song that should be in the definitive Uk chart list. Eimear Quinn "The Voice" 1996 No 40, 2 weeks

Thanks for the information. I always wanted a definitive list of the Top 100 Eurovision charting songs in Uk. There are some glaring absences from that list which definitely should be there. If you add the ones below you can form a top 100. The first ten or so of these should be ahead of some of the ones in the original list. These are: Domenico Modugno Ciao Ciao Bambino 1959 No29 Jacqueline Boyer Tom Pillibi 1960 No33 2 wks Marie Myriam L'oiseau et l'enfant 1977 No 42 4 wks Bobbysocks Let it swing 1985 No44 4 wks Ronnie Carroll Ring a ding girl 1962 No46 3 wks Prima Donna Love enough for two 1980 No48 4wks Scott Fitzgerald Go 1988 No52 2 wks Ruslana Wild dances 2004 No47 1 wk Linda Martin Why me 1992 No59 2 wks Andy Abraham Even if 2008 No67 1 wk Kalomoira Secret combination 2008 No71 1 wk Sertab Erener Every way that I can 2003 No72 1 wk Live Report Why do I always get it wrong 1989 No73 1 wk Eric Saade Popular 2011 Popular No76 Alex Swings Oscar Sings 2009 No85 Serebro Number1 2007 No99 Waldo's People Lose control 2009 No100 Krista Siegfrids Marry me 2013 No102 Sebastien Tellier Divine 2008 No106 Just missing out: Giorgios Alkaos OPA 2010 No110 Marija serifovic Molitva 2007 No112 Sarbel Yassou maria 2007 No114 Urban Symphony Randajad 2009 No117 Cascada Glorious 2013 No129 Anouk Birds 2013 No 158 Dina Garipova What if 2013 161 Zdob Si Zdub So lucky 2011 No153 Katy Wolf Whart about my dreams 2011 No128 Buranvskie Babushki Party for everybody 2012 No159 Elefteheria Eleftheriou Aphrodisiac 2012 No167 Roman lob Standing still 2012 No132 Hera Bjork Je ne sais quoi 2010 No131 Chanee and Nvergreen In a moment like this 2010 No137 Safura Drip drop 2010 No181 Paula and Ovi Playing with fire 2010 No200 Josh Dubovie That sounds good to me No179 Aysel & Arash Always 2009 No137 Malena Ernman La voix 2009 No138 Flor de lis Toadas as ruas do amor 2009 No158 Hadise Dum tek tek 2009 No127 Inga & Anush Jan jan 2009 No159 Svetlana loboda be my valentine 2009 No167 The Ark Worrying Kind 2007 No121 Les fatals piccards Lamour a la francaise 2007 No144 Hanna leave me alone 2007 No122 Sopho Khalvashi Visonary dream 2007 No175

Is there any chance Bastille with"Pompeii" can catch Justin Timberlake for No1 on the singles chart? I notice there are three versions of Pompeii in the top 40 on itunes.

There has always been chart rules. So there is no harm in trying to come up with some that will enrich the singles chart and make it slightly more interesting whilst promoting more artists at the same time.

Isn't it strange how the album chart is now more interesting and fast moving than the beloved singles chart. Virtually all the posts on this thread referring to album chart action. Maybe because the singles chart is a shadow of its former self. One new entry this week. Great variety there! Remember singles used to be promotion tools to sell albums. With so few new songs entering the charts no wonder the album sales are plummeting too. I do think they need to change the rules, at least ensure new material has a chance of charting. Maybe 59p songs should be excluded. My interest is certainly lessening chartwise. Lets hope Jessie Ware can make top 40 this week and double the amount of new entries to that list!

Glad to see Disclosure moving up and the success of Tyler James. Does anyone know why John Denver with "Annie's song" is re-charting, although likely to drop out of top 40 by Sunday?

What a boring singles chart with possibly just one new entry! This is happening far too often and it seems really difficult to have a hit single unless you are an autotune rapper with a dance synth or a pure bubblegum pop act. I loved when the UK charts was full of variety and numerous genres. Can anything be done to reverse this malaise? Has it to do with the lack of "real" release dates so no one knows when a song has been officially released. Didn't Noel Gallagher complain about this recently. Anyway Carly Rae Jepsen could be the only new entry, Alex Day could miss out and the Script for re-entry! Very dull!

I would have expected a few more new entries in the singles countdown on the Friday update. What about Taio Cruz, Tyga, Azealia Banks and M.I.A? Surely all four should be fairly close by Sunday?
  17. Surprised nobody mentioned Ruby Murray who had ten top 20 hits in the 1950's including No1 "Softly Softly". Also I remember dance duo Agnelli and Nelson were from NI. They had about 5 Top 40 hits and their best known is No 17 "Everyday" from Sep 1999. Clodagh Rodgers was from Newry/Warrenpoint and she had 5 top 40 including No3 "Come back and shake me" and No 4 "Goodnight Midnight" both in 1969. I am sure someone already mentioned Stiff Little Fingers, No 15 with "At the edge" in 1980. One member of One True Voice was from NI, Keith Semple, they had the infamous No2 Hit "Sacred trust" in 2002. Ronnie Carroll represented UK twice at eurovision, he was from Belfast and his biggest hit was "Roses are red" No3 in 1962. That should help.

Disappointed that Nadia Ali is missing from that top 40 again. Lets hope she can climb by Sunday.

I would love to see Nadia Ali sneak into the top 40 but it is probably too late in the week now. She has been around 30-50 on itunes all week. Can she do it next week? It would also have been nice to see Etta James have a posthumous top 40 with "At last" but again looks impossible. I would like to see Lana Del Rey get to No1 next week. As for Rizzle Kicks, I am not sure I agree that a 59p track should be allowed to compete equally against 99p tracks!

I used to love this first chart week of the year when some new tracks would hit the top 40 after the christmas hols were over. However it is more difficult for them to breakthrough now in the download era which is not determined by stock on the shelves. How far is Nadia Ali with "Rapture" from the top 40? Is there any chance of her sneaking in the Sunday chart? it would also be nice to see Michael Kiwanuka get there too but it is unlikely.
