Surprised but delighted to see Saint Etienne so high, with a big climb and doubling their points. At one point they were my favourite British group, and I didn’t realise they’d be so popular with others. Their biggest hits were pure pop but their albums were not: indie-dance maybe? Their ballad ‘Hobart Paving’ is one of my all time favourite tracks.
  2. I think you have the wrong number 39.

But - it may well be the case that the both take turns at the top - bearing in mind they keep leapfrogging each other each year.

And they also had a couple of double A-sides. Their albums were massive sellers (especially compared with McFly I think).
  5. Up to #40 suddenly (it was #49 a second ago) As #21 (Green and Gold) is overall #199, this suggests EOSN is around #400 - but at least it appears to be climbing. Catching up with Padam Padam at 301!
  6. The highest Kylie song on Amazon right now is Padam Padam (343) so no sign of ‘Edge of Saturday Night’ yet.

Great to see 4 of us putting Roxette in our top 10s. My all time favourite group - several almost perfect albums.

Looking forward to this! Thanks Julian. Intrigued to see what figures you have for Elton John & The Pogues

Joint 101 - interestingly 3 groups who were on my shortlist: Cranberries were the only ones who made it into my top 30, Simon and Garfunkel were the last ones to be eliminated so technically are 31. Eurythmics would’ve been in my top 40. I eliminated them both partly because I only listen to their greatest hits album (though Heart remain in my top 30 despite this). And as others have mentioned, despite Cranberries having two massive albums that sold over half million copies each, not only did the Cranberries not have any top 10 singles, but their two highest charting singles were the first releases from their less successful 3rd and 4th albums.

I know. I was really looking forward to the concert - but these things happen. Was really hoping they would climb in this year’s chart, but they are down a mere 4 places!
  11. Great to see some songs from 2023 making big falls (Tyla down 6) and love seeing Fleetwood Mac in the top 40

I’m getting excited because three of my acts who are outside the top 100 last time are yet to come! It would be amazing if they could all climb into the top 100.

I’m a big A1 fan. They were underrated compared with other boy bands - genuine talents. Between them they’ve written 2 of the 5 Norwegian Eurovision entries this decade - and Ben has written one of my favourite musicals ever (Eugenius). People thought their music was too cheesy - so after 2 massive boy-band albums they made an album in which they performed as a band (playing all their own instruments) rather than a pop group - and still had a number 2 hit. They are the highest of my new entries - (3 points above Ace of Base). I wonder if there are any other new entries higher, other than new artists.

I have (had) that one too. I guess this all brings me back to how I chose my votes: either 2 great studio albums or a career-spanning greatest hits album that I’ve played on repeat: Savage Garden only had 2 studio albums but each was perfection: you know when you think an artist’s debut album is so good that they won’t be able to beat it, but then they do. Interestingly the worst song (The Animal Song) on their 2nd album (Affirmation) was the first track to be released from it, and often I wonder if this works in an album‘s favour: people don’t buy it because they think it’s going to be bad, but then as better songs are released, people begin to realise it’s a masterpiece and it’s success grows. Ace of Base had massive success with their 1st and 3rd albums (both were great fun) but at the time I loved their 2nd album ‘The Bridge’ which was much more somber - but a commercial flop. Like Savage Garden’s 2nd album, they released a poor choice (Lucky Love) first - but unlike Savage Garden, when the follow up (Beautiful Life) was released, it didn’t turn around the album’s fortunes. Fact of the day: these were the first 2 UK top 40 hits for Max Martin (he produced them but didn’t write them) - who of course went on to become the most successful songwriter (in terms of big hits) of all time!

I agree! One of my favourite bands but I don’t like their popular ballads. (The ballads on their albums were better). So their biggest sellers were ballads but ‘To The Moon And Back’ thankfully charted higher. Great to see a big climb for them but considering how big they were at the time I’m very surprised to see them so low.

Yes - a New Entry with 4 votes is pretty amazing! I was surprised to see them so high after they got no votes last time. One of two groups I voted for to be a New Entry but with more than 1 vote - The other group is still to come.

I love both Booty Luv and Måneskin. Måneskin may potentially have made my top 40 or 50.
  18. It’s good to see ‘My Oh My’ is doing well on Apple Music Australia and is climbing (up 6 to 57 in the past 24 hours). Gives me hope.
  19. 41 in the midweeks! That’s not bad. It will fall a lot over the next few days, but I feel it could still make the top 75, just. You beat me by seconds!
  20. That (apparently) was yesterday - so we will find out today in 40 minutes (I think)
  21. I get it now. But not ‘has reached’ because it clearly hasn’t reached that number of listeners, if its streams are only a tiny fraction of that number. I assume you mean the people who follow the playlists it’s on. (I’m not being picky - I’m just trying to made sense of it.)
  22. Sorry - please can you explain what this data means? You can’t mean total streams as My Oh My is on no more than roughly 1 million streams. If I remember correctly, Midnight Ride is less than 10 million.
  23. Yes, BUT has had a better start on downloads than the last two collaborations. Ditto - it’s clear that Kylie is going for globally successful artists at present. She understands that it is her lack of global (and US) success that has been holding her back.
