Oh no! So sad to see no-one else voted for All About Eve. Martha’s Harbour is one of my all time favourite tracks - and they had many great songs across their first few albums. I didn’t vote at all last time, but AAE gained 29 points, so I assumed they’d still pick up points.

Midnight Ride ● Orville Peck, Kylie Minogue + Diplo
That’s brilliant! I hadn’t checked out the chart yet. It’s not a big hit, but to spend four weeks in that chart means it does have its support. I did like ‘Dance Alone’ but it really only got support on Amazon.

Glad to see support for Aqua. They got me through depression during my university days. Their debut album was beautiful and joyful - and had 3 number 1 singles. Their 2nd album was also brilliant - and anyone with two amazing albums was considered for my list of 30. And Toto: yes - I love ‘Hold The Line’ too.

Awww - with Aqua gone, that’s 4 of my 5 New Entries so far that no one else has voted for. Two more to go higher up, so we will see, but at least I’m still waiting for my 6-point New Entry to come. My favourite of the others from this list would be Chainsmokers. But - I’ve just realised that I’ve not ranked any artists whose debut albums were released after 2002, other than girl groups.

Kylie ● UK Chart Runs & Sales
I came on here to say exactly this. It’s so easy for us to assume that a certification must be correct, but this certainly isn’t. Reading other forums, its downloads could be up to around 100,000 but certainly not significantly more; its physical sales are less than 10,000 from the reissue; its streams until a year ago were far less than 100,000 (‘Kids’ at number 10 is no more than 110,000 - so EFY at 19 will be significantly less). It’s unlikely to have even reached silver status since 1994. Could they have granted it platinum status for being an official million seller? If so, that would be unprecedented. Could it have just passed 200,000 Since 1994 and then mistakenly as its last certification was gold they’ve given it platinum?

Great to see Dollar, The Levellers and Shed Seven in there.

2024 BPI Certifications
Struggling to understand how ‘Especially For You’ has gone platinum. Any thoughts? I’m sure it hasn’t been streamed enough for 600,000 since 1994 as it’s far from being one of Kylie’s most streamed songs.

Kylie ● UK Chart Runs & Sales
But how? Its global streams on Spotify are only 23,000,000! Kylie has songs on much higher streams released since 1994 (I.e. that include streams AND sales) that have not gone platinum!

I always felt ‘Be With You’ was one of the most underrated songs of its era. I loved it! And their version of A Hazy Shade Of Winter.

Great to see XTC, The Bangles and T’Pau in there. 3 bands whose music I’ve bought, back in the day.

Midnight Ride ● Orville Peck, Kylie Minogue + Diplo
Only just spotted that ‘Midnight Ride’ has spent the past 3 days high up on Spotify UK’s viral charts: 13 - 16 - 18. Bizarrely, Tuesday (not Friday) seems to be the day that songs debut on the viral chart!

Back up to 12 on Shazam! And all of the songs above it apart from one are big hits!

Awww. I had a feeling no one else would vote for Voice Of The Beehive. That’s the 3rd of the first 4 of my potential New Entries gone - but at least someone else voted for my 6 pointer (I assume they are a new entry as I didn’t spot them in last year‘s poll).

Great to see KLF in there! I loved all of their hits and their ‘White Room’ album.

Great to see Shakespear’s Sister in there. They made my shortlist of about 40 but didn’t make the final list because I was only really a fan of one of their albums.

Just coming back to this, I don’t feel ‘Dance Alone’ sold as many downloads as we might have thought. It reached number 1 on iTunes, but considering it then fell immediately, I don’t think its numbers could have been that large. It’s difficult to compare the two songs as ‘Dance Alone’ was released on a Wednesday - but indications are that its sales weren’t high. It didn’t chart on Global’s ‘The Big Top 40’ which rewards iTunes sales, unlike ‘Midnight Ride’ which has spent 2 weeks there so far - though it’s not clear where the sales window is for ‘The Big Top 40’ (e.g.is it Sunday to Saturday? Monday to Sunday? Friday to Sunday? Or even just a snapshot on Sunday - which I feel it used to be?) If it is just Friday to Sunday (or a snapshot) then that would explain why Dance Alone did not chart (as most of its sales were on a Thursday) but otherwise it had a one-day advantage over ‘Midnight Ride.’ Looking at the downloads chart positions: Dance Alone: 17-20-61 Midnight Ride: 7-14 ‘Midnight Ride’ was higher in its 2nd full week (14) than ‘Dance Alone’ did from day 2-8 (20). 17 is pretty good for 1 day of sales. But I wouldn’t call it huge numbers.

Yes to ‘Goodbye’!! I loved that track. And its B-Side - ‘The Vanishing Race’ (I think).

I love S Club 8 and The Lonely Island. I’d forgotten The Lonely Island had any top 40 hits (I thought ‘I Just Had Sex’ was their biggest hit) - otherwise I might have put them in my top 30. They are a band I revisit every now and then.

2024 Albums Year To Date Estimates
Pleased to see Linkin Park in there and I assume they will continue to climb over the course of the year.

Exciting though: my 6-pointer got zero votes last time - but I’m clearly not the only one voting for them this time! SASH! are great. I always thought of them as a solo artist. I think I had their debut album - but after that they faded away in my mind. I’m a Tina Cousins fan, so ‘Mysterious Times’ is my favourite SASH! song.

I can’t find ‘Wow’ in my collection - so I assume I didn’t buy it. But I think this was around the time when CD singles were dying - and I moved over from buying CD singles to downloading tracks. But now I buy all of the Kylie singles as they are released, and on multiple formats.

Much more consistency on iTunes than ‘Dance Alone’ which only spent a few days in the top 20 there. Although download numbers are only small, it is a good way of comparing the popularity of Kylie’s songs.

The Official Charts does likewise, but I’ve checked out the album cover and single cover and they both clearly mention the Bad Seeds. Therefore it was easily the band’s biggest hit (though I know that sadly Polyhex is our Bible). However, it may have been the only Kylie single that I didn’t buy until ‘Wow’.
