  1. Yes it was. Certainly it’s midweek chart positions were largely down to Amazon. 45 on Amazon this morning. And 17 on Shazam
  2. I’ve not had problems with General Admission the past couple of years (as part of a small group). Bring in your blanket - lay it down - and take it in turns to wander off.
  3. Has anyone tracked its daily Spotify streams? I’m thinking it’s a grower rather than a shower - just thinking how Dance Alone hung around a while.
  4. Damn you! You beat me too it! I didn’t realise it was in the Shazam Chart though. Let me check it out.
  5. Midnight Ride is slowly climbing on Amazon Prime. Yesterday morning it was just outside the top 100. Yesterday evening it was (I think) 100. Now it is 84. https://music.amazon.co.uk/popular/songs?refMarker=null Was watching a bit yesterday. If ‘Especially For You’ is not on the Baby Reindeer playlist, it’s because it doesn’t form any part of the background music – one of the characters sings a couple of lines live.

This is my first time voting in any of these polls. 7 of my votes go to songs that scored 0 last time - so I’m hoping other people vote for them too (including my 29 pointer!) and 3 more got fewer than 30 points. The more people who vote, the more likely this will be! Hopefully the results will remind people what great artists they are and they will get more votes next year.

***** 1) Stan 2) Lose Yourself **** 3) Like Toy Soldiers 4) The Monster 5) Without Me 6) Real Slim Shady *** 7) Smack That 8) Houdini 9) Just Lose it 10) River * 11) Godzilla Rap is a genre that normally I can’t stand, but Eminem is a genius. The only song here that I don’t like is ‘Godzilla’ - an era when I feel Eminem did not focus so much on melody or humour. Both ‘Stan’ and ‘Lose Yourself’ are inspirational. I’m emotionally exhausted every single time I listen to ‘Stan’. ‘Lose Yourself’ is a song that everyone wants to rap along to and it only grows better with age. I couldn’t decide whether to put the two melodic tracks: ‘Monster’ and ‘Like Toy Soldiers’ above the next two humorous tracks ‘Without Me’ and ‘The Real Slim Shady’. I wonder where we would all put ‘My Name Is’ and ‘Love The Way You Lie’ if they had reached number 1?
  8. I’m shocked at how few votes Austin received - but I guess at the time hardly anyone really knew it.
  9. It will be interesting to see how many of this year’s releases are certified gold this Friday!
  10. Interesting to see that the 5 biggest albums released this year are all by female solo artists.

I probably haven’t been paying attention, but somebody please remind me what ‘Breakthrough’ certification is.

That said - the number of bands charting this days is comparatively small. I think looking at the last list there is a focus on grouos from between 10 and 30 years ago. 7 of my list received 0 points last time, so it will be interesting to see if my points are the only ones that they gain this time. And 3 more gained fewer than 30 points - so might have been just 1 voter. Typically my judgment was based on whether I have owned and loved 2 or more of their albums - although a few of the artists had 1 album I loved, and then a wider singles base - with one artist who I have just got their greatest hits but will be finally seeing them live this year - and another whose singles I love, but whose album I returned to the store and replaced with Céline Dion as I just wasn’t enjoying it…

Great to see that a lot of acts in my current list (or shortlisted for it) were voted for last time albeit outside the top 100. And yes - whoever said they weren’t voting because their choices wouldn’t make the list: please do! It’s all the more reason to vote. I loved looking at the lower end of the list for the last survey.
  14. Eurovision in Amazon Prime (I can no longer access Unlimited Chart): 21 Nemo - The Code 52 Olly Alexander - Dizzy 120 Baby Lasagna - Rim Tim Tagi Dim 146 Joost - Europapa There are none others in the top 250. Nemo is looking good for a top 40 spot on Friday. Olly should return to the top 100 and Baby Lasagna should make the top 100 and hopefully Joost too. Still hoping Bambie Thug can make the top 100.
  15. Looking at the streaming, Nemo should make the top 40 - but maybe not the top 30. With Olly doing relatively well on Apple and iTunes - and having physicals - he could in theory chart - but his physicals weren’t enough to make the First Look Chart so that’s worrying for him. Baby Lasagna probably hasn’t done enough to make the top 40 - though a handful could make the top 100: those mentioned already and Joost and Bambie Thug.
  16. Surely ‘Dreams’ is the biggest song to make the top 30 but not the top 20, not ‘Dog Days Are Over’ giving Fleetwood Mac 3 songs on this list.

Cue: GreyAsh’s long article about this fact on Facebook.

Fascinating list! Thanks for sharing. I love reading lists like this - so if you ever do anything else you think might interest us, please share. I wonder if Wham! or Mariah might pull ahead in the list of most days.
  19. One thing to remember is that this is effectively the ‘Alexa’ chart and you have very little influence over what it plays. There is an alternative Amazon chart (for subscribers to Amazon Music Unlimited I think) - but I don’t have access to it at present. The other thing is that we can’t be certain that the Amazon chart is an accurate reflection of what people are playing/what data they submit: for example, it removes all Christmas songs from its chart even when people are still playing them.
  20. Spotify data suggests that if it is not on DCL-3 then it is on DCL-1 - as it looks highly likely it declined this week (despite climbing) but least likely to have declined the previous week.
  21. Which of the past 3 weeks do we assume it had an increase? The latest one?
  22. Interesting how Natasha Bedingfield is back up to her recent peak (partly because of songs going to ACR last week) yet is on DCL-3. Similarly there are other songs on DCL that are climbing or pretty steady in the chart.
  23. I was going to ask the same question about Jungle. I was shocked to not see them getting reset last week, and as a result returning to the top 40. It was one of two clear ‘winners’ from the Brits looking at iTunes and Spotify (the other being RAYE). How on earth has it been reset this week, when it is probably in decline? OCC taking a nap?

It’s a shame if it was boring on tv. In the arena it was electric.
  25. Great point! I knew there was a recent case where this had happened. However, wasn’t this slightly different because it had been requested rather than being automatic?
