Take That - The Progress reunion era really was a big hit period for them as was Beautiful World. Nice that every reunion album has a song represented in their top 10 apart from Wonderland. These Days has done far better than I had thought also. We'll never know what TT views would have been if YT was around at the time.
  2. I agree I prefer Boyzone to Westlife. I feel they had more charm and down to earth, though overall were weaker vocally. They did covers but the original songs were a good mix of fast and slow tracks.
  3. I completely agree and think you may be right ... if this was 1999 and comparing. During Take That absent years I agreed and thought Westlife were collectively better singers, though not in songs or overall musicality. However, since the reunion as a collective I'm inclined to say Take That overall are vocally better than Westlife. Gary and Robbie were always strong vocalists with character. Mark/Howard could sing to a certain style to fit their voices. Jason played guitar or danced. Now Gary and Robbie are the same still, Mark has more versatility and Howard is stronger vocally and all are consistently strong. Jason is like Mark and Howard in the 90's he has a great tone and can sing a song best suited to his abilities i.e Wooden Boat though isn't as versatile vocally as the other four. Westlife have two amazing singers for the style they sang, fact. Shane and Mark are arguably better in this slow style, though Gary and Robbie are able to suit different musical styles/genres. Brian was also a good singer. Kian is okay though not great and Nicky from the few album tracks lines I've heard can't really sing. As it stands today, man for man. I feel Take That vocally have overtaken Westlife, this is just my opinion however.
  4. Interesting article with more details. https://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/what...-good-1-9367946 I'm so pleased they mentioned South America and the US for later in the year as the fans were so disappointed when they were left off the tour announcement. Plus it's about time too, I hope Canada is included also. If a single comes with music video and whatnot, I'm guessing it would be a new song. However, if they did one new and one old using the duets, I think the Boyz II Men duet would work as the original LAHA is so under-rated and overlooked. HDIYL and RTW already had/have a big impact.
  5. That's a good point, I didn't think about that. I know this sounds tribal but I really hope Westlife don't do to TT what TT return did to them! If they do I'm sure it'll be interesting.
  6. I agree. Singles wise I'd be surprised if anything big happens on that front or many sales acquired. Album may sneak #1 but I don't think it'll be a huge seller.
  7. I like the features they are really good artists. So Get Ready For It and Shine are the only two songs untouched as it were, interesting.
  8. Sales of both acts (albums/singles) per decade in the UK: 90's Take That: 8,271,000 Westlife: 2,202,814 00's Westlife: 14,796,335 Take That: 9,972,119 10's Take That: 5,443,261 Westlife: 978,237 As shown it really can't be underestimated how much of a force Westlife truly were in the 00's in British sales. Blue (2002) and Busted (2003 & 2004) both had better sales for those calendar years, putting Westlife down to runner up spot. However neither group lasted nor completely took Westlife out completely. In 2004 they were third biggest behind Busted and McFly and again in 2009 behind TT and JLS. This was their lowest ranks until going further down in their departure year. Westlife were the only one out of the two compared groups to break 10 million sales for a decade, though Take That were very close in the 00's to doing this also. Year on year sales it really is obvious to see that Take That return at first slightly then drastically tumbled Westlife huge sales to respectable numbers, however no longer blockbusting. JLS mainly are to be mentioned as well in affecting Westlife sales. When Westlife split up they were the fifth biggest selling boyband behind Take That, JLS, The Wanted and One Direction, who outsold them with their huge debut single alone. Westlife were the fifth biggest on departure and I suppose the writing was on the wall back then. The 2010's was their downfall with huge new rival younger boybands and an existing massive man band, and biggest of them all, ultimately placed them out of the market. Number 1's (singles/abums) in UK per decade 90's Take That: 11 Westlife: 4 00's Westlife: 17 Take That: 5 10's Take That: 3 Westlife: 0 Total Combined: Westlife: 21 Take That: 19
  9. With the Westlife 4 man version reunion imminent, let's refresh the state of play and UK sales between the two biggest boybands in British music history. TT: 13.8 mil albums / 10.2 mil singles = 24 million Westlife: 12 mil albums / 7.2 mil singles = 19.2 million 4.8 million in total more records sold by TT. Can they be caught? Take That had to overcome far more records than that from 2005 and overtook WL UK sales in 2009 some four years of huge success later. They have refused Brian offer to reform as a five and because of that their old label Syco and Simon Cowell has said he won't be apart of the reunion, having wanted the full 5 or nothing. They have signed with Universal instead. Maybe they are hoping to do a Take That? Continue as a four then in time bring Brian onboard? Thoughts?
  10. 27 tracks, 3 of which are new meaning 24 older. I'm guessing 12 and 12 1st phase and reunion. It'll be interesting the 12 picked for the second half. disc 1: probably all 8 #1's plus Love Ain't Here, Takes A Minute, Could It be Magic and A Million Love Songs. Why Can't I Wake Up With You dropped? disc 2: the 4 UK #1's plus Rule, Said It All and the Flood, the 4 other top 20 singles plus 1 other? Unless I'd Wait For Life is dropped also favour of another top 40 track, of which they have had two Kidz and Cry. I feel bad for the foreign TT fans as they were hyped up with flag emojis and promises of a tour finally on their continent only for the announcement of ..... the UK and ....... Europe. If they are still working it out should have told the fans as much. I mean can you imagine how devastating the announcement must have been? No wonder so many aren't happy.
  11. It wouldn't hit #1 for 4 weeks put it that way .... however it's a different style, not full on pop, so has served it's purpose in that way. I think the originals are so familiar at this point it will take a few spins to get used to not listening out for certain parts in newer versions. I agree with above doing the hits this way has opened up opportunity for studio versions of the newer tracks to be a potential future possibility and so they have been clever in that respect. I wish they took a gamble on the European leg and gone to nations like Poland and Portugal where they have never toured. Though France is a big market and at least they will have finally done a proper tour date there in Paris next year.
  12. Take That World Tour: European Leg Dates Released 29x UK 4x Germany 2x Belgium 2x Ireland 2x Italy 1x Austria 1x Denmark 1x France * First ever tour date in country 1x Netherlands 1x Switzerland I hope The other legs are announced at some point so those fans don't feel left out.
  13. Mark said at the Cologne show that the German part of tour would be May/June 2019.
  14. I hope the tour is long as they should have gone to a lot of these places back when. Better late than never and with a full Greatest Hits album with them they have good reason. Take That have always put things into perspective so the venues will be fitting of their status in that region. It depends on promotion done in those countries before hand as well. I think they'll sell the venues they pick. A fan years ago did research based on local social media figures for North/South America and found the biggest TT hot spots so to speak and who daily mentions TT. He worked out a tour and venues based on this data and it was decent venues. South America http://www.radiocremebrulee.com/take-that/...n-south-america USA http://www.radiocremebrulee.com/take-that/...-tour-in-the-us Israel, UAE and Aus/NZ they played venues other top artists play aka arenas and this will be the same I imagine.
  15. The band have put out a tweet asking for flag emojis of where this world tour should go. Now being a tad sad I gathered up the information up to this point and wrote down the countries mentioned by fans. This world tour is the most exciting aspect of the 30 year celebration for me as it's LONG overdue! The absolute clear favourite is Spain by far in terms of responses followed by the USA and then Israel. So at moment it looks like this from response .... The most prominent responses are the countries from North/South America as expected and they are listed below. Highlighted are the countries never toured before. Brackets last year toured in that country. AFRICA South Africa ASIA China Indonesia (1995) Israel (2017) Japan (1995) Thailand (2016) UAE (2017) AUSTRALASIA Australia (2017) EUROPE Belgium (1995) France Germany (2015) Ireland (2017) Italy (2015) Netherlands (2015) Poland Portugal Spain (2007) Sweden (2006) UK (2017) NORTH AMERICA Canada USA SOUTH AMERICA Argentina Brazil Chile If they want to tread old ground as well these are remaining nations they're previously toured and year. Austria (2015) Denmark (2015) Finland (1994) New Zealand (2017) Singapore (2016) Switzerland (2015) Taiwan (2007) IFPI Top 20 music markets in the world - Bold if TT never toured there and in brackets the last time if they have. 1. USA 2. Japan (1995) 3. Germany (2015) 4. UK (2017) 5. France 6. South Korea 7. Canada 8. Australia (2017) 9. Brazil 10. China 11. Netherlands (2015) 12. Italy (2015) 13. Spain (2007) 14. Sweden (2006) 15. Norway 16. Denmark (2015) 17. Switzerland (2015) 18. Mexico 19. India 20. Argentina So out of the current Top 20 music markets in the world. TT have during career played in half (10) and half they haven't (other 10). Within the top ten markets there are 6 nations they have never toured, hopefully this will be addressed on the world tour 2019. When they are out on tour they should go on national TV in these countries and promote the album. It's a greatest hits after all so could have publicity for these TV shows. Touring is effective but TV is still the best platform for promotion.
  16. The Greatest Hits sounds amazing to me. Gary has tweeted. 'Our Greatest hits album is now finished and mastered. Every track has had a face lift. Some have been completely re recorded. 3 brand new songs. There’s guests and lots of interesting links between songs. What a journey #TT30' Who are the guests? Backstreet Boys maybe. Interesting links between songs - spoken word or instrumentals? If it's all their singles wouldn't it be a three disc minimum? I can't wait for the WORLD tour, though I hope it is just that. All continents and countries never visited but more than due. This will also help the new Greatest Hits and build some kind of momentum and ripple effect for it and their music.
  17. For Canada where TT have had much more consistent success than the US. It reads like this for ITunes sales. 1. Patience 2. Back For Good 3. Shine 4. Greatest Day 5. Rule The World 6. How Deep Is Your Love 7. Kidz 8. Get Ready For It 9. When We Were Young 10. Never Forget 11. Beautiful World 12. Reach Out 13. Giants 14. Said It All 15. I'd Wait For Life 16. Pray 17. Wonderland 3. Beautiful World 4. Progress 5. The Circus 6. Nobody Else 7. Take That & Party 8. Everything Changes
  18. For anyone who is interested these are Take That's current Top Twenty purchased songs on US ITunes: UK #1s outside this also noted. 1. Back For Good 2. Get Ready For It 3. When We Were Young 4. How Deep Is Your Love 5. Rule The World 6. Never Forget 7. Patience 8. Giants 9. Pray 10. Shine 11. Could It Be Magic 12. Greatest Day 13. Love Ain't Here Anymore 14. It Only Takes a Minute 15. 19. Obviously I'm a fan and don't mean to re-open old wounds, however I really feel it was all down to the Tax avoidance publicity in 2012. I had also thought they would naturally go to 1 mill or 600,000 but not such a drop. To give them some credit they are doing okay within the actual current sales climate, as by far there are fewer acts going platinum than in previous years. Wonderland just missed the year end top ten though has sunk like a stone since.
  20. Well, if it makes you feel better it was actually number 3 in the UK behind two giant songs Love is All Around and I Swear! It was number four in Ireland however.
  21. See for myself I love Love Ain't Here Anymore more than some of the chart toppers. It's definitely in my top 5 TT songs. The only thing I like about Sure is it at least it showed another style to Take That who unlike other boybands took risks with changing their music styles and sounds. Just think of all the different genres they went through back then and also now. Most boybands especially in Take That's premiere billing position stuck to a winning sound and formula. Take That didn't they constantly changed even if it meant shedding some fans or picking up others. I think as a rock fan primarily it's one of the reasons I also like Take That and their music. Though you're right it certainly wasn't a natural style for them that time and was very American R'n'B and of it's time. Wake Up in terms of production still sounds fresh (the single version) and though I love Magic it does feel a little dated production wise now though the charm and charisma from Robbie still shines through (again the single version) on the recording.
  22. It sold 215,000 copies in the 1994 year end chart and was the lowest selling number one of the year. However, it was released in October so didn't have a full year worth of sales. Love Ain't Here Anymore and Why Can't I Wake Up with You have sold only a fraction more than Sure in the UK. Could It Be Magic sold over 100,000 copies more also.
  23. Agreed, however like Never Forget finally reaching a Platinum status. I find there are other tracks that feel like that should be bigger especially from the first time around. In my mind it feels like Magic, Fire and Changes should at least be Gold status not Silver. Not to mention the never ending wait for A Million Love Songs to only go Silver seems baffling to me. Pray considering it was #1 for a month and is still well received today also feels like it should be a Platinum selling single. It's good that Never Forget managed to get over to the barrier sales threshold. Of the more recent singles I was sure Said It All would have gone Silver sooner rather than later and if Giants is continued to be used as background music than it could slowly get there over time.
  24. I thought it would be a good place to keep a list of all the certifications the group have had over the years and I can also modify the post as albums/singles go up or achieve minimum certs in the future. Albums 9 x Platinum (2,700,000): Beautiful World 8 x Platinum (2,400,000): Never Forget: The Ultimate Collection Progress 7 x Platinum (2,100,000): The Circus 4 x Platinum (1,200,000): Everything Changes 3 x Platinum (900,000): Greatest Hits 2 x Platinum (600,000): Take That & Party Nobody Else Platinum (300,000): The Greatest Day – Take That Present: The Circus Live III Gold (100,000): Progress Live Wonderland Silver (60,000): The Platinum Collection Singles 2 x Platinum (1,200,000): Back For Good Rule The World Platinum (600,000): Babe Never Forget How Deep Is Your Love Patience Shine Greatest Day The Flood Gold (400,000): Pray These Days Silver (200,000): Could It Be Magic Why Can't I Wake Up with You Relight My Fire Everything Changes Love Ain't Here Anymore Sure Top 20 UK singles yet to be certified silver: It Only Takes a Minute, I Found Heaven, A Million Love Songs, I'd Wait For Life, Up All Night, Said It All, Love Love and Giants. As you would expect every single which went top 3 in the charts has at least made silver certification.
  25. These are the entries by British or Irish boybands in the recently published top 100 boyband songs as compiled by US Billboard music critics. Davy Jones from The Monkees was British so I'm including them on the Brit side also. 92. Beat Again - JLS 91. Theme From The Monkees - The Monkees 89. Caught in the Middle - A1 88. What I Go To School For - Busted 86. I Found You - The Wanted 85. You Made Me Believe in Magic - Bay City Rollers 76. The Harder I Try - Brother Beyond 71. Never Forget - Take That 69. Swear It Again - Westlife 65. Story of My Life - One Direction 64. 5 Colours in Her Hair - McFly 61. Stay Another Day - East 17 60. Pass The Dutchie - Musical Youth 48. When the Lights Go Out - Five 42. Steal My Girl - One Direction 35. Glad You Came - The Wanted 22. She Loves You - The Beatles 21. I'm a Believer - The Monkees 17. Saturday Night - Bay City Rollers 11. Back For Good - Take That 9. Back Here - BBMak 7. Daydream Believer - The Monkees 4. What Makes You Beautiful - One Direction 3. I Want To Hold Your Hand - The Beatles Number one surprise surprise is I Want It That Way by Backstreet Boys as per usual with American publications and this song. What baffles me is not only is it nonsense in it's lyrics but the song only peaked at #6 in the US so why the constant hype and status? Back For Good was a bigger global hit than I Want It That Way as well. It's a catchy but silly song I'll admit that I just can't understand why it's so hyped in America. Are the writers of these lists on the Backstreet payroll or something?!
