  1. I know that this has died down in favour of the Greatest Hits and World Tour which I completely think is the right thing for them to do and about time. I hope they still do a residency in Las Vegas in the future as it would be absolutely perfect for Take That and truly fitting for them and their songs. The ultimate validation in some ways. I think word of mouth would be quick and strong not to mention all the Brit tourists etc. The World Tour is next year though I hope this still comes along at some point as it was a very exciting prospect for many of their fans.
  2. NEVER FORGET HAS FINALLY GONE PLATINUM ! I REPEAT NEVER FORGET HAS FINALLY GONE PLATINUM IN THE UK !! About time too for this iconic track.
  3. Superhero was on the US version of the album track 3 and released as the second single in the USA in early 1998. It just missed the Billboard Hot 100 charting #106. His first US single So Help Me Girl had reached US #44 sadly just missing the lucrative American top 40. So Help Me Girl remains the highest solo American peak for a Take That member with Robbies highest US peak being Angels at #53. A live version of Back For Good closed the American album but not on the International released version which is understandable due to it's American top 10 hit status and sole Gary/Take That familiarity to that audience. In terms of the USA for anyone who is interested singles and albums Take That related look like this: Singles Back For Good: #7 (Take That) So Help Me Girl: #44 (Gary Barlow) Angels: #53 (Robbie Williams) Millennium: #72 (Robbie Williams) The Days: #78 (Robbie Williams) Superhero: #106 (Gary Barlow) Albums Escapology: #43 (Robbie Williams) The Ego Has Landed: #63 (Robbie Williams) Nobody Else: #69 (Take That) Sing When You're Winning: #110 (Robbie Williams) Reality Killed The Video Star: #160 (Robbie Williams) Gary is advertised to perform on Must Be The Music so hopefully that performance will be to publicise this re-release. Open Road however is quite a way from going double Platinum sales in the UK as I believe it is currently sitting at 377,000 copies (300,000 is Platinum) before standing still like most records do. This would mean it would need 223,000 copies to go double Platinum which when you bear in mind Wonderland is rested on 217,250 copies is a tall order. Maybe if he released another track off the album for promo that could work? Superhero wasn't released in the UK so that is an option as it wasn't on the UK/International album either.
  4. On their twitter page they have been tweeting lyrics of songs with some believing these are the songs on the greatest hits and the tracklisting the first three have been... Patience Rule The World Never Forget The twitter feed has also asked what fans favourite UK #1 singles and albums are which I think is great as other bands connect with their fans on twitter with these kind of questions. I look forward to the next song lyrics to appear. If this is the tracklisting they are following the trend of their other two greatest hits in having the biggest tracks flood the first part of the record. I think if this is the tracklisting having Patience open is perfect as it was either going to be this or Greatest Day. Greatest Day however was nowhere near as big a global hit as Patience so it makes sense to open with this huge and appropriate track.
  5. It would be nice to hear more stories on this thread as it's always interesting the different ways of how people get into music. It seems older sisters have a lot to do with younger male Take That fans!
  6. I'm surprised they have redone Pray as that was the only song from Everything Changes that charted all over the world and this remained the case until Back For Good came out in terms of their songs which reached all continents. I'd be interested to hear it though as they could do various things with the song same as Sure. Sure charted well Asia, Europe and Oceania however it didn't in Africa or North/South America unlike Pray which did so can see why they would want to re-imagine the song. Sure also sounds very of it's time and American New Jack Swing.
  7. That's possibly true however Gary has said for years far before any talk of the Greatest Hits how he'd love to update the back catalogue as he's a tech geek.
  8. I wonder what the artwork for the front cover of the Greatest Hits will be due to the number ranging from 3 - 5 members. I think for the Greatest Hits Vol 1 and Never Forget both had great artwork. I especially liked the 1996 cover with the logo and single/album artworks around it and had the new Greatest Hits been a reunion only collection it would have been nice to follow that theme of having the logo prominent and single/album post 2006 artwork around that. Due to the collection being all years work I'm not sure if they'll do that as it means some 90's artwork covers would be repeated. The title people have suggested Rule The World - The Best of Take That which I agree would be great though Tears For Fears have recently released their Greatest Hits with that title. Never Forget - The Ultimate Collection was a perfect title as that Greatest Hits was a reintroduction package. I think Take That should use Rule The World also as there are always similar titles. The Circus with Britney Spears was a case in point there will always be overlaps. Does anyone have any other suggestions for a standout Greatest Hits title?
  9. Below is great research done as to how many fans they have actively on social media in South America and gives an idea of the size of venue they should go for. http://www.radiocremebrulee.com/take-that/...n-south-america I do believe the Greatest Hits will be marketed more in other places around the World as they have a World Tour in mind and a Greatest Hits is easier to sell/promote rather than a new studio album. They did pre promotion for their visits to Israel, New Zealand and Australia and they filled the venues for those particular shows. Those nations they had never been to before or not in decades whereas Dubai I noticed had less pre promotion as they had been few years prior so was a well worn path/territory. Lots of fans will travel like what already happens however it's about giving the local fans on that continent the opportunity and excitement of TT coming to their country or fans traveling closer. It also creates a buzz with the local media and interest and touring is the biggest way to gain press and name recognition in these continents. Despite a world of social media the number one most effective way for a group to be successful is to physically go to these places and be seen. It will be a three piece touring with hopefully one of the three new songs featuring Rob. Like I say they will have to do some TV/magazine promotion beforehand as they have never toured Africa or North and South America so this will be a first footing for them. Regardless it's about time as they do have fans around the world and they have patiently waited for decades always having to travel to Europe. Since the reunion I've always wanted them to think outside just Europe and Asia and credit to them for now doing that. In terms of the album it sounds like Madonna Immaculate Collection where she remixed all the songs into different versions which is good but I always find myself stuck preferring the originals!
  10. I was thinking the same thing as the only two boybands to have achieved commercial success since reforming in the UK were Take That and to a much lesser extent Boyzone. I think Westlife would fall between the two perhaps. The other boybands who have tried Blue, Let Loose, 911, Five, Busted, East 17, A1, Blazin' Squad, Bros and Damage haven't had any new commercial success or certifications for their recent output just low sales. edit: Maybe I was being harsh judging reunions on any certifications obtained so the list of reformed boybands who have had a top 20 reunion record with either albums/singles are: In brackets position in top 20 best selling boybands in UK history Take That, (1) Boyzone, (4) Blue, (9) Busted (13) The ones who haven't had new studio album/single go top 20 or even chart highly/at all since reforming are: Let Loose, 911, East 17, (11) A1 Boybands who reformed but stuck to just low selling tours and no new reunion records are: Five, (10) Bros, (16) Damage, Blazin' Squad
  11. I saw the Never Forget show on DVD but didn't make it to the end of the show as it was really bad and I can't really remember much of it. It was strange as it was endorsed by Nigel at the time however but Take That put out a statement distancing themselves from it and stating no involvement. Having tried to watch it once before I can see why.
  12. Louis Walsh the Westlife manager said a few months ago that a reunion would be the four of them and under no circumstances would Brian McFadden be a part of it despite his enthusiasm. Walsh explained the reason was they had 7 years after he left the band in 2004 and they are just better off all round as a four piece. Granted they did have 7 extra years afterwards but their mammoth success Globally (1999 - 2002) was with Brian in the group and that can't be dismissed just for Walsh's personal reasons. It seems Walsh is still angered by McFadden as he felt the very real possibility of the band splitting soon after his departure. This didn't happen as we know but their sales never recovered and anyhow were already going down in 2003 with the 'Turnaround' album. I would love to see a full reunion Westlife if it does happen for their fans as this is how they are remembered most. I think it's a Take That situation when they went with a different manager for the reunion to keep the possibility of Robbie returning in the mix. Had they stayed with Nigel I doubt highly Robbie would have returned and Jason may have been traded in for Shayne Ward (!) as was Nigels plan for a reunion. I don't see Westlife either going with a new manager for a reunion other than Walsh as they wouldn't be able to function without him or Simon Cowell. I also don't see them standing up strongly for anything they want to do based on pattern of their initial career including having Brian back if they wanted it so. Their fans may never see a full reunion with Brian which would be a shame especially as in recent years he appears a lot more likable now with his television career and more rounded personality.
  13. I'm glad they've done it the right way and toured the country getting the show perfected and just right. It's also great to tour the country first instead of just settling in London. I think if they had gone straight into the West End like the Spice Girls 'Viva Forever' then it wouldn't have worked. I know a group who went and saw 'Viva Forever' in London and they said it was dreadful.
  14. It is unfortunately a long way off not even halfway there (less than 100,000 copies) however it was wishful thinking!! It would have been good to have another certified lead off single from the album however they did well to even chart that highly 27 years later in the singles chart when compared to others in the same position.
  15. I'd love for Giants to stream it's way to Silver status purely so every album has a hit single attached to it. Things like this are great for exposure so hopefully it'll get certified.
  16. So Help Me Girl was the one Gary solo song truly pushed in America peaking at #44 so sadly outside of the US top 40 to be classified a hit. It was given a strong favourable review in Billboard which is at least a positive and went to #3 on the Adult Contemporary US chart. It failed to chart however top 100 in Canada and Gary has never had a solo track chart in Canada to date despite Take That earning chart topping status there two years earlier and having charted singles/albums. The single was reported to have hit number one in 13 nations and due to the information that is available this is likely to have been nations across Asia and South America where Gary did a World tour promotion. For example if a song like So Help Me Girl can hit #1 in 13 nations worldwide without published charts to view made available or rather hard to find then a song like Back For Good can definitely hit #1 in 31 nations worldwide. Twelve of those nations it did are listed above however there are HUNDREDS of nations all over the world big and small and it's only industry insiders who obtain these facts. Casual pop fans outside those nations have to make the best of the information provided though at least with the internet in full swing Take That's chartings are easier to find now! As far as how popular they were it's probably best speaking to someone from that nation. For example I have a friend in his late 40's who has lived in the UK for the past 15 years though originally from Ghana and he said he was aware of Take That and said they were a big band listing 'Back For Good' and 'Never Forget' as the examples of songs he was familiar with. This again is consistent with information from the World Charts which placed BFG at #1 and Never Forget at #8 as well as official Zimbabwe chartings listed which had both those songs listed in the top 10 another African nation though in the South as opposed to the West of the continent. Off the top of his head he said that Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Abba and Westlife were all big acts in Ghana and that Bob Marley and reggae is the most popular music. I'm constantly being surprised by songs success in interviews for example the lead singer of The Calling said 'Wherever You Will Go' hit #1 in 19 nations however from information easily available I can see 4 nations. A song's success is always bigger than the information out there if that makes sense. The best person to ask would be Nigel Martin Smith or possibly Gary would know as well depending on how methodical he is around chart success. Michael Jackson books always list huge numbers of countries where he went to #1 in his discography obviously highlighting his attention to detail to such things whilst reaffirming that he was a big deal worldwide in all nations but the published charts for a lot of these nations in continents I highlight below are hard to find. There are numerous countries the World over where knowing a song's success isn't readily available especially in South America, Africa and large parts of Asia and in the 1990's so a song/album #1 or top 10 status song or album is actually greatly enhanced. However I'm reporting only official information readily found. The information however that is available does provide a telling clue to that particular continent trends as normally success has a ripple effect across borders however this isn't always the case. The glaring obvious example being the United States of America as though Robbie and Take That have had huge to moderate success in bordering countries Canada/Mexico in America they have a mainly blank discography. The single didn't take off in Europe at all with only the strong foundation of the UK & Ireland giving the single top 20 status. Gary's biggest solo global hit remains his first Forever Love which peaked opening week at #7 on the World Chart and was released three months after the end of Take That.

  18. The above post is where they have toured and this post is where I'd like them to cover a World Tour. If Take That were to work on the principle of going to nations where they have had a number one record either singles/albums (though information outside of Europe is harder to come by) it would look like this: I've thrown in some Take That receptive nations they haven't been to also as they have stated they want to go to countries they haven't been to with an asterisk. AFRICA South Africa (*) Pray, Back For Good, Never Forget, How Deep Is Your Love were chart hits across the continent though information is limited to the published Zimbabwe charts and books detailing these African successes. Patience, Shine, Rule The World and The Flood have also been popular across Africa since the reunion. A few shows in South Africa where it's been noted they have been popular during both eras would be great. A world tour should be exactly that all continents. ASIA Bahrain (*) Israel Japan Malaysia (*) Philippines (*) South Korea (*) Taiwan UAE Israel and Taiwan are the big two for them above however they achieved success not many Western artists have with the Nobody Else album in Japan going top 10 and could be good to re-connect with the Japanese market. AUSTRALASIA Australia New Zealand New Zealand they could tour though hopefully if the new Greatest Hits charts well it would take them from a one hit single status in NZ. EUROPE List of nations they've hit number one in: Austria Belgium Denmark Finland Germany Greece (*) Hungary (*) Ireland Italy Latvia (*) Netherlands Norway (*) Spain Switzerland UK This is the easy one and lots of options here for them. They have always hit the bigger nations for touring however it would be nice like Robbie did for them to go to the smaller yet loyal nations also such as Hungary, Norway and Latvia. You don't achieve full true and lasting success if you only look and focus on the big countries. NORTH AMERICA Canada (*) Mexico (*) USA (*) Canada is a must for them regarding this continent and holds chart topping status for them. Mexico information is hard to come by although they were popular there in the 90's and have a loyal following. Robbie is huge in Mexico so they are still known there through his success over the years. SOUTH AMERICA Argentina (*) Brazil (*) Chile (*) Peru (*) These would appear to be the main four areas of interest for Take That who achieved huge success in Brazil and Chile especially. Argentina they have remained successful in the present day as well.

  21. I agree the Take That band legacy is larger than the sum of its parts excluding Robbie of course. Mark initially did well in Spain however with his first album.
  22. Only lowly in the UK as Hail Mary peaked at #103 and quite disappointingly Stars reached #129 in the UK even though it is a great song.

  25. I appreciate that this is a Robbie/Take That forum however I thought I'd post East 17's chart info here for anyone interested. They were always below Take That in the UK though in singles were fairly matched. The big difference between the two comes Global in album success. East 17 however unlike Take That in the latter part of their initial career never took off in North or South America and were very hit and miss across Asia also. They never made a dent in Japan the biggest Asian market.
