  1. I'd really like it to go top 10 as that is a major achievement considering their long standing as a POP artist where chart single success is only limited to a certain time frame but it's really uncertain where it'll end up. Acts like Madonna, Kylie etc really struggle to go top 40 let along top 10 so I'd vew any TT single from here on out going top 10 as a major success however even top 40 would be good. To compare them with a similar act Backstreet Boys last lead off single (granted we're talking 2013 here) charted only in Germany #100 and not in any other major music market top 100. Plus that was a reunion record with all five members so the equivalent of TT 'The Flood'. For me as long as the albums continue to sell well for the current climate of sales then I'll be happy as that represents the collective work of the group. A top 10 single would be fantastic though but they need to flog themselves all over TV not just for first half of week where there is heavy radio play, Let It Shine, music video potentially etc all 7 days. Once a song charts highly it creates it's own hype as it has status top 5, top 10 etc etc. This is normally what has been happening with TT singles it goes high on iTunes then last four days drop, drop, drop. The carpool karaoke and performance on Late Show in US will definitely help it Worldwide but that's a month away so ideally they need to push it up charts and keep it around the top until then. The UK is their obvious priority however I'd love for the track to go top 40 around Europe as well. If it charts well outside Europe then obviously that's a bonus (Patience,The Flood etc) then that'll be great however the hard work starts at home before going elsewhere. It would help the album sell outside the UK also if that was the case.
  2. Appearing on US TV would be amazing for them as they haven't done it since the Olympics closing ceremony coverage. The last time they were actually interviewed in the States was way back in late 1995 during 'Back For Good' promotion. I wonder if it'll be interview and music performance possibly?
  3. I'm liking the positive aspect of the show and the fact they aren't manipulating the vulnerable or exploiting them either for 'entertainment'. The talent is great however I love seeing all the archive footage of TT as well as the other boyband clips featured also. It really emphasises the point and different aspects to what makes a great boyband work whether it's the blend of the members, chemistry, dancing etc which they've talked about in segments. I've noticed Backstreet Boys have a lot more clips other than TT themselves but as the best selling boyband of all time that would be a given to show the different areas they've talked about using them as an example as well as TT and others. I hope the show remains above the Voice in ratings as it is a feel good show and showcasing talent. I loved the rocker guy singing Bon Jovi he was fantastic and something a bit different however am not envisioning him in the final band.
  4. I heard though I don't know if it's true that only three albums have gone Platinum this year in the UK (300,000). I read it in an interview with a British artist and they were discussing what it means to be successful today and they mentioned only three albums have gone platinum in the UK this year. Am pretty sure that's what they said. I know it's bad but I hope this doesn't mean like in the vast majority of other countries the certs levels are lowered in the UK.
  5. http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/g...evealed__16965/ 1. Rule The World: 1,050,000 4. Patience: 710,000 6. The Flood: 599,000 8. Greatest Day: 543,000 Take That (4) One Direction (2) JLS (1) McFly (1) The Wanted (1) Westlife (1) It's a shame that with those sales RTW and The Flood ended up at #2 and not two extra #1's for them. Bleeding Love however has still outsold RTW (1,090,000). The Flood was beaten first by Only Girl (In The World) at 1,115,000 total sales and JLS Love You More (370,000 copies sold total). The JLS song was a Children in Need record and also as usual with them was front first week loaded in sales before falling down. TT even in the 90's were better than just a one week stay at the top of the singles/albums. Based on #1 single/album. 0-.4 rounded down .5 rounded upwards. 90's Their average for 90's singles were 8 at 21 weeks averaging (2.6) 3 weeks at #1. Their average for 90's albums were 3 at 8 weeks averaging (2.6) 3 weeks at #1. 00's Their average for 00's singles were 4 at 8 weeks averaging 2 weeks at #1. Their average for 00's albums were 4 at 21 weeks averaging (5.2) 5 weeks at #1. Overall Their average for #1 singles are 12 at 29 weeks averaging (2.4) 2 weeks at #1. Their average for #1 albums are 7 at 29 weeks averaging (4.1) 4 weeks at #1.
  6. I know this is Westlife and Take That but I thought I'd list other British and Irish boybands who have had entries on the World Chart. Most however are global one hit wonders as referenced above Westlife had one global hit but so did some others. TT did well to land 4 global top 10 singles. Albums like above are only from 2004 onwards for World Chart so most of these 90/00's groups are unknown for albums. Let's start with the BIG one! 7. Ok this is a LOT of information album/single all in one! What's interesting is they have done well in different parts of the World. That said TT sales in places like India and Asia aside from Japan/Taiwan are unknown as it's much easier to find info for Westlife as a 1999 onwards act (internet boom era). Taking out the countries mentioned where TT sales can't be found but going for countries where the information is known reads like this in terms of higher album sales in countries: As of 2014 (can't find 2016 they rarely change) top 20 music market size in brackets. ALBUMS - Country by country who has sold more where information for both is available (chart positions/sales). See above why TT at disadvantage for info for certain nations so that nation not assigned to either band. Take That USA, (1) Japan, (2) Germany, (3) UK, (4) France, (5) Canada, (7) Italy, (10) Spain, (13) Austria, (16) Switzerland, (18) Taiwan, Netherlands, Argentina, Portugal, Finland, Hungary, Denmark (TT 90's certs unknown so TT almost certainly higher), Belgium. TT: 10 of top 20 markets including the top 5 largest music markets more albums sold than Westlife. Westlife Australia, (6) Brazil, (9) Sweden, (12) Mexico, (14) Norway, (15) Ireland, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Iceland, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines. 8. Nigel Martin Smith new boyband called Yes Lad were on opening show of X Factor last night. I think they are alright and have potential but that name has caused a right stink on twitter! I don't think it's too late for them to change it to something different. Little Mix changed their name half way through (granted for legal reasons) so if they change it to something that flows a little easier I think they could do alright. They didn't mention NMS or TT which I think is good as they need to establish themselves first.
  9. Eight Letters, The Day After Tomorrow.
  10. So back in the 90's there was a popular myth that Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees had written BFG under a deal that Take That would later cover a Bee Gees song which obviously they did. This was a popular myth for years for some people and spurred on by the tabloids which blatantly was untrue (see below). 'The song's popularity and quality led to an urban myth that it had secretly been written by Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees. Gibb later commented that he had "never even heard" the song.' I suppose in the light of things BFG was a big song writing step up (mainly for non in the know TT fans) at the time and eclipsed anything they had done prior in terms of chart success. This perhaps making people think it was a Barry Gibb song he had given away. Personally I didn't believe it at the time although it was a huge record and I can't imagine Barry Gibb who has given numerous songs to high profile artists would have kept his name off the credits during the mid 90's. It died down as all rumours naturally do but the question is did any one believe this at the time?
  11. I wonder if this is still an actual thing or if it was simply a news story for bored publications. I think an album is coming end of year and then 2017 the greatest hits is that still the plan? Backstreet Boys are apparently going to start a 9 night run with hopes of becoming a full Las Vegas residency.
  12. Let Me Go for me. These Days is ok but not a Take That classic. Good but not great.
  13. They were popular in Russia and Latvia from the Everything Changes album definitely. I don't know about other eastern Euro countries. They were big in Russia and Latvia in 90's. Latvia first top ten was Pray in '93 (#8) and #1's Love Ain't Here Anymore, Back For Good, Never Forget and How Deep Is Your Love. Don't know post comeback. In Russia it's hard for 90's due to massive bootlegging and black market for music across the country. Perhaps radio play and audience votes are a true reflection of popularity. East 17 however were the bigger band in Russia. They said in their documentary they were very popular in eastern Europe as their songs were political and represented oppression which connected with these countries and also their harsher image. East 17 definitely had a #1 album in 'Up All Night' in 1995 in Russia and were so popular they fronted Pepsi Russia ads for the country! They also played a massive concert in front of Red Square in 1996. Year end radio spins for Russia in 1996: East 17 #13 Do U Still? and #16 Someone To Love Take That #29 Every Guy and #36 How Deep Is Your Love. I suppose Every Guy was a radio hit in Russia or a random release for Russia. I suppose it does sound the most like East 17 from that album. It was a promo single. Year end audience votes (not sales) for Russia in 1996: East 17 #4 Do U Still? and #7 Someone To Love. Take That #8 How Deep Is Your Love and #13 Every Guy. Russia was one of a handful of countries where East 17 did better than TT Australia and France were the other countries.
  14. I'm sure a new album would have had continued success in these new territories as well as the old. I know that they released Pray in the territories new to Take That in early 1996 as the follow up to Back For Good. It did moderate to well. In Canada for example BFG was #1 in November 95 and subsequently top 10 in the US the same month. BFG was a hit in Autumn after a promo push as opposed to earlier in year spring 95 when it was a hit elsewhere in the world. The success in North America trickled down over the borders into South America also during this time. Pray was released in some select territories new to TT based on BFG popularity in Feb 1996 so just before the split announcement the next month. In Canada it peaked at #55 spending 8 weeks in the Canadian top 100. The Nobody Else album for North America and places in world unfamiliar to TT was a mash up of the Nobody Else album with some album tracks taken out and Pray, Babe and Love Ain't Here Anymore added in. In theory because of this Pray for these territories could be classed as the second single from Nobody Else as it was on that particular version. Pray failed to chart in the US. The video was different also representing the four of them. However a new song/album could have done well potentially in North America. In Canada Nobody Else got to #23 and Greatest Hits #38. US#69 and two weeks n top 100. For the US pop bands got a foothold in 1997 with Hanson, Backstreet Boys and Spice Girls so a new studio album in 1996 may still not have set the US charts alight. It potentially would have charted in lower reaches perhaps however as opposed to nothing at all. I think you're right before BFG the success was Europe, Asia, Australia and middle East (Israel etc). Once BFG was released they however had success in Africa (Never Forget was also a top 10 hit and Pray re-released also) and North/South America though there is footage of them doing a show in Mexico in 1994 so they may have had some footing there. I have a Ghanaian friend who was early 20's during TT first time around (I know you can't really base everything on one sole person) and he said Back For Good was massive in Ghana and he also clearly remembers Never Forget, Pray, How Deep is Your Love and also Love Ain't Here Anymore which he believes was released after BFG there. He wasn't familiar with any songs pre BFG. He also said that Westlife were really popular in Africa also especially their song My Love. I think first time around their truly global hits were Back For Good, Never Forget, How Deep is Your Love and Pray (1993 and 1996 chartings). I'm unsure about second time around although Patience got to #21 in Canada in early 2007 and spent 10 weeks in Canadian top 100. It also went top 30 in Australia so it is their most successful international single post comeback. Intrigued by BFG having 17.2 million views on you tube. I decided to look for 90's view count top 5 to see through nostalgia or new fans etc which globally were being watched. 1.Back For Good - 17.2 million 2.How Deep Is Your Love - 7.1 million 3.Never Forget - 3 million 4.Everything Changes - 2.6 million 5.Pray - 2.5 million 00's onwards 1.The Flood - 23.7 million 2.Rule The World - 21.4 million 3.Patience - 18 million 4.Greatest Day - 12.5 million 5.These Days - 11.4 million Despite Patience doing better than Rule the World globally in the charts it's views are less. Rule the World however benefitted from the global audience of the Olympics performance four years ago giving it worldwide attention.
  15. Although Pray was a huge song for me and Never Forget and I loved Patience though the first time I heard it I didn't realise it was Take That initially! For me it's got to be Back For Good - the harmonies, the music, the video, the vocals, lyrics just everything. This in my opinion was never bettered by them and represented a group in their (initial) prime vocally and in song writing. There is a reason that track went all the way around the world and into the United States of America top ten at a time when it was dominated by grunge and gangsta rap hip hop. That alone tells you about the strength of the track as a pop track.
  16. I've gone for How Deep is Your Love and agree with above as I also find it dull and a safe option for a final single. I would have liked either Holding back the tears or the day after tomorrow to have been released as the final song for them. Track that I wish had gone to number one would be Love Ain't Here Anymore as I've always liked that one more than some of other singles from Everything Changes.

  19. The Official Charts Company in line with the 60th anniversary of the UK album charts has published an updates top 60. http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/t...evealed__15551/ TT: Beautiful World: 34 Progress: 57 Never Forget: The Ultimate Collection: 59. TT and Coldplay have the most with 3 albums on the list each. Which of their albums do you believe has the potential to rise over time? I think Never Forget: The Ultimate Collection maybe because it'll chart with an updated Greatest Hits release around the corner. That is what happens with Abba and Queen who have multiple greatest hits on the list. I know the new one could be a best of over 25 years but because NF has sold so well I think a new one post 2006 would be better vol 2 etc. That would help sell NF as some people might buy it to have both chapters as it were. Some people are saying three albums have been missed from the top 60. The Very Best of Elton John (2.7 mill) Robbie: Life Thru a Lens (2.4 mill) Robbie: Sing When You're Winning (2.2 mill) I wonder how these were missed.
  20. Top 10 singles 1. Back For Good 2. Never Forget 3. Pray 4. Could It Be Magic 5. Patience 6. Rule The World 7. Love Ain't Here Anymore 8. These Days 9. Babe 10. Higher Than Higher 5 least favourite TT singles. 1. Hey Boy 2. I Found Heaven 3. Once You've Tasted Love 4. Do What U Like 5. Up All Night/How Deep is Your Love
  21. I wonder how Sigma view this? I think it's safe to say TT peak years are done on singles chart and album sales are falling. I know people say the 3 man TT have been successful #1 single/album and Platinum selling album. I wonder if Jason was still in band would they have been higher/sold more? Have people truly taken to 3 man TT? That's a steep fall considering the video has come out and Radio 1 promo. I really wish they would put out Greatest Hits 2 soon purely to remind the general public of their post comeback hits and before they no longer care... revive a bit of interest so that if TT 3 continues at least people have their past work fresh in their minds.
  22. It was #6 in Scotland main singles chart so time for the whole of UK to get behind the track!! They have done better in Scotland than whole of UK since return singles wise: Patience #1 (4 wks) Shine #1 (1 wk) I'd Wait For Life #6 Rule the World #2 Greatest Day #2 Up all Night #2 Said It All #1 (1 wk) Hold Up a Light #86 The Flood #2 Kidz #22 Happy Now #48 Love Love #15 When We Were Young #95 These Days #1 (1 wk) Let in the Sun #69 Hey Boy #31 Cry #6. Albums Never Forget: Ultimate Collection: #4 Beautiful World #1 (6 wks) The Circus #1 (5 wks) Greatest Day: The Circus Live #3 Progress #1 (7 wks) Progress Live #12 III #2.
  23. I hope the track can go top ten as I believe that is what is good for an act of their time in this day and age in singles chart. Sigma are really getting a hammering which is a shame. What is the difference between Paloma Faith/Rita Ora and Take That?
  24. I'm amazed the song is still #4 on UK iTunes. The reality is this won't be the case when the 7 days are up. Maybe they are waiting till the midweeks then releasing a video? Possible that they are using first week as word of mouth then second music video and gradually building the interest up that way. I hope the song charts in some major European countries also. So refresher is the plan still an album this year and then the greatest hits/best of next year? An updated greatest hits/best of would sell really well in the UK I believe.
  25. I get the feeling now it's 4 years since Westlife split and with all their solo careers not doing well they will come back before 10 years which they initially said. Nothing has been said and this is purely my own speculation based on how things are turning out. If they do it would be gutting for them to overtake TT on sales in the UK after TT repositioned themselves as the rightful biggest boyband ever in the UK. TT 13.7 mil albums / 10.2 mil singles = 23.9 million Westlife 12 mil albums / 7 mil singles = 19 million Do you think Westlife will overtake TT UK sales if they come back? I seem to remember the music press/general public being glad of their demise so am guessing it wouldn't have the same backing as TT potentially? If they came back with any covers in this day and age they would be slaughtered! I know that much.
