  1. The only problem with not having any talking heads is there isn't a chance for outside perspective, and an opportunity to challenge first person narrative.

There wasn't bad blood just confusion for the other members. Justin and JC (who is by far the superior talent in my opinion. His vocals are immense) both put out solo records and the rest is history. However, they called it a hiatus because both were going to put out solo albums then come back for an NSYNC record. Like Beyonce did with Destiny's Child in 2004 after her and Kelly Rowland's succsesful solo debuts. However, nothing was communicated leaving a state of confusion for the band members and fans of NSYNC. Justin continued on with his solo career, and wasn't approachable during that time. I think it was 2007 when Lance told the fans that NSYNC was finished. However, that was only a guess on his part and not from any direct conversations. I think he was fed up of being in limbo. They all talk, especially since the 2013 VMA performance and leading up to it, as they have a What's App group. I just don't think any member wanted to directly broach the subject of a reunion until Justin said so. In the behind the scenes making of the song. Justin clearly states that he got in contact with them and that he would be honoured to have them on his track. The boy band premise of the 'Trolls' film would clearly have also led him to thinking along those lines. Mentioning Robbie returning to Take That and fan thoughts. It has been suggested that JT has come back to NSYNC for a load of innocence and goodwill, to be liked like he once was, given the commercial and personal lull he is currently going through. * Note: this theory was suggested prior to Britney's book.

I know this is a Robbie & Take That forum. However, like Robbie and Take That once upon a time. NSYNC have reformed with their superstar solo member, Justin Timberlake. I know 'Better Place' is a one off single, and tied into a huge Dreamworks film. I always thought their reunion would be huge, even for just one single. Justin etc. Yet the song has only charted on Belgium, Canada, and the US national charts so far. Was 21 years simply too long? Should One Direction be taking note? Robbie came back after 15 years, however, as we know Take That had been revived succesfully by the other four prior. Not dormant, like NSYNC. Is Timberlake not the selling star he once was? Thoughts? I like the song, it is catchy, but hasn't stayed with me. I thought they were fantastic in their day. I bought 'Tearin' Up My Heart' and 'Pop' singles and their 'No String's Attached' album. They were never majorly popular in the UK. I only knew one other person in my year group who had one of their cds. Definitely NSYNC over Backstreet Boys, if we are going there (!)
  4. I actually prefer Windows, but neither has left a lasting impression on me. I will stream the album to hear the songs, but not sure I'll download or buy a physical. I like that they try new things but the further that happens the more of the audience falls away. To be fair, it is a hard predicament. However, when their oeuvre is assessed they will be praised for depth and broad scope. Different to artists who give their audience what they want everytime, and are therefore accused of a lack of growth, and choosing commercialism over creativity.
  5. They are touring Europe for the album. 'This Life'. Spain, Germany, Ireland, Austria, Hungary, Italy, Denmark, Portugal, Switzerland. Below is the year they last toured in that country: Austria: 2019. Denmark: 2023. Germany: 2019. Hungary: Never. Ireland: 2019. Italy: 2019. Portugal: Never. Spain: 2007. Switzerland: 2019. Other European nations they have toured, and their last visit: Belgium: 2019. Finland: 1994. France: 2019. Netherlands: 2019. Sweden: 1994. I'm surprised they haven't done a concert in Norway. Nations toured outside of Europe are as follows: Australia: 2017. Oceania. Indonesia: 1995. Asia. Israel: 2017. Middle East. Japan: 1995. Asia. New Zealand: 2017. Oceania. Singapore: 2016. Asia. Taiwan: 2007. Asia. Thailand: 2016. Asia. United Arab Emirates (UAE): 2017. Middle East. Hopefully Africa, North & South America one day.

"Everything Changes" was already charting when FIMI (the new official regulator) published their first album chart in early 1995, which is where the #13 peak comes from. The album definitely had a higher earlier peak in Italy, a Top 10 placing, as attested to by an Italian friend. Prior to this, album information in Italy was hard to come by if you didn't live there. However, the singles chart has always been clear and concise. By November 1994, the album had reached Platinum sales as reported by La Repubblica, which would indicate a likely Top 10 placement. 9. They all did amazingly well in Spain upon launching solo careers. Gary's first two singles went to #1, as did Robbie's. Mark also had a number one with debut, 'Child' there, and the highest peaking/selling debut album of the three in Spain. (3 and Platinum - Gary's was a 5 peak and Robbie 37)
  10. A music video for 'Windows' is coming this Friday.
  11. How well do we think 'Speak Without Words' would have done and a solo album? I didn't know he had special permission to film his music video in Cuba. I could see him doing as well as Mark's first solo album and single. Having a Latin sound was definitely different to any of the other solo careers. Gregg Masuak video director: "I'd done an amazing video for Howard in Cuba a while back which I should have kept the footage to, because we shot in places no one would be allowed to shoot in again, with visuals that were so amazing it was crazy. Unfortunately a clash between management and the record company made his deal collapse, and a great album never saw the light of day."
  12. That is really interesting and I actually had never thought about the fact they have achieved all their goals. I think they are still driven creatively, hence the new directions as opposed to commercial safety. The trajectory is standard with regard to the singles chart and older artists. Their last couple of singles have gone top ten on the downloads chart, but that is a different era and doesn't even get a low top 100 spot these days. I think the best thing they could do is to push their back catalogue, and to really promote new albums. I think it was interesting that the film didn't do as well as hoped in the UK, maybe a sign. Touring places around the world they have never been to, yet still have some loyal fans (South America/Africa), and a Vegas residency and dates in North America are two new potential horizons for them. Westlife have just announced a sell out North American tour, owing to having never previously performed there, and there is no reason Take That couldn't do the same. Back For Good was a huge #1 hit in Canada, though they also had other top 40 hits/albums there, including Patience in 2007, amongst other songs charting further back in the top 100. BFG was also a big, though not huge, top ten single in the US. It still gets thousands of plays a year on US radio and they even performed on The David Letterman Show, TODAY Show, Regis and Kathie Lee, and had Clive Davis overseeing their single/album in the US etc. They were one hit wonders in the US true. However, plenty of acts sell tours in America off the back of one hit song. To have a top 10 single in America is different due to the logistics of acheiving this is in such a vast country. Their charts are also far slower moving so it is rarer to acheive this, and thus memorable. The song is known in the States to a certain demographic, just not the group. They have toured Asia, Middle East, and Australia/New Zealand in the last ten years. Now might be the time to finally focus on some South America, Africa, and North America dates. Then their bucket list truly would be complete.

  14. 'Alone Without You' is probably my favourite. I also like 'Close To The Edge', 'Child', 'Four Minute Warning' and 'Stars'.
  15. I agree with your comment. I haven't liked the recent music. However, I like that they are trying different sounds and styles. To give them credit even in their early boyband years, they covered many styles of music and didn't just stick to one sound and formula.
  16. The general public/casual listener has never taken to them as a three piece, both visually and musically. That is a quite common theme I have noticed through comments from non-fans, as well as the tax scandal being mentioned. Still. Robbie is a superstar and Jason was arguably their most popular member as a four piece, or at least second behind Gary. Those are tough holes to fill. Jason was the most down to earth, relatable, and honest of the four. He was also the only one not greedy and involved in the scandal. These three members were. Jason left soon after, coincidence? Who knew Jason was such a secret weapon of popularity. Then again success is a myraid of combinations, not all musical. Their reputation was built as honest, working class lads, Gary excluded, who worked hard from nothing going from 'Do What U Like' to 'Back For Good'. Nowhere to the biggest global pop single of 1995 worldwide, all the while remaining relatable and likeable, including through their initial '00's comeback reunion. For many the story arc closed with a natural conclusion when Robbie returned for the triumphant 'Progress'. The prodigal son had returned to a critical and commercial success. They will always be able to tour, however, because of the catalogue they produced.
  17. Which would have been a great fourth single? I think with two upbeat and a ballad previously released. I would have loved 'The Day After Tomorrow' released in Christmas, 1995. However, 'Sunday to Saturday', 'Nobody Else' or 'Holding Back The Tears' would also have been good singles for this album. It would have helped the album gain more publicity, as 'Never Forget' had been released in the summer. They could then still have released 'How Deep Is Your Love' the following April as part of the 'Greatest Hits' album. Which song would you guys have picked? *Edit: I did put a poll on but it has vanished. Potential singles: 'Every Guy' 'Sunday to Saturday' 'Nobody Else' 'Hanging Onto Your Love' 'Holding Back the Tears' 'Hate It' 'Lady Tonight' 'The Day After Tomorrow'
  18. Greatest Hits (1996) has finally crossed the sales threshold and was today certified 4x Platinum: 1.2 million sales. Hopefully some of their other 90s output will creep over into higher sales certs.
  19. #7 in its second week and a current UK total of £1,132,647.
  20. The film opened at #5 with box office of £536,955. What do we reckon success or not? https://www.britinfo.net/cinema/ukbox.htm I noticed the showings had gone down to one today at the ODEON, a Saturday.
  21. So the first critic reviews are in: Digital Spy: 4/5. HeyUGuys: 4/5. Screen Daily: Positive. Total Film: 4/5. Empire: 2/5. There are 15 songs featured in the film of which 11 have been listed: A Million Love Songs, Babe, Back For Good, Could It Be Magic, Everything Changes, Greatest Day, Never Forget, Patience, Pray, Rule The World and Shine. Will be interesting to see which other four songs are in. The Flood I assume would be one of them, though maybe doesn't fit.
  22. I think being the third version of the song was perhaps a step too far. I would have loved an original song to tie in with the movie.
  23. Hopefully the exposure over time will help 'Greatest Day', 'Shine' and 'Never Forget' to Double Platinum status (1.2 million copies sold) in the UK. I would love their 90s output (singles/albums) to grow higher in certs. I appreciate they were succesful and high sales for the time period/population, but some just seem so low for their ongoing status. What I feel the songs should be based on continued public presence etc: 'A Million Love Songs' - Platinum (600,000) currently Silver (200,000) What! This is the biggest stand out for me based on all the times it was performed on X Factor over the years and has remained as a vital Take That song. Robbie himself said that it was the quality song where he knew that the group would be alright. 'Could It Be Magic' - Gold (400,000) currently Silver. 'Pray' - I feel this has to go at least Platinum as opposed to Gold as it is such an iconic title for Take That, first era. 'Relight My Fire' - Only Silver (!) Not only should this song be Gold certifed minimum but I would say Platinum as it is still a radio favourite. 'Everything Changes' - Silver but should be Gold minimum in my opinion. 'Love Ain't Here Anymore' - Silver but I feel should be Gold. Profile is so low, however, is generally viewed as a flop having broken their #1 streak. An under-rated gem. 'Said It All' - Silver but would like it to go higher as feel it is very under-rated and unknown by the public. Unfortunately it peaked the week of all the Michael Jackson re-entries in 2009 and thus didn't get the radio play and audience it deserved. Though was still a top 10 placing. 'Kidz' - Should at least be Silver in my opinion but when an album sells so well it is naturally harder for the singles following a lead off. Album wise: 'Take That & Party' it would be nice to go from 3x (900,000) to 4x (1.2 million sales) however I'm not sure that will happen. The album is, let's say, patchy. In my opinion at least. 'Nobody Else' - This album really deserves more than 2x Platinum (600,000) however as a critic noted they killed its sales dead in the water due to their split and 'Greatest Hits' album release. What do you guys think in your perception what do you think the UK certs should be for certain releases? Hopefully their film and Robbie's film/Netflix documentary (TT are in it unless cut by directors) will help also.
  24. UK Top 40 would be the best outcome, hopefully. However, like all older acts within the singles charts, it gets harder and harder. The obvious comparison is Westlife who reached #66 in the UK with their lead off single, 18 months ago.
