  1. The arrival of 3 cd singles boosts Danceteria's standing this week, adding 9 streaming points to the tally, and keeping Confessions II tracks at #1 for a 24th week in a row. But, with Expectations reaching a peak in its 11th week on the chart, following the duet version being released, is Olivia the one to finally dethrone the Queen? Also maxing out their 3 tracks per album allowance on the Tracks chart, are The Beatles, Ashe and Kim Petras. The streaming points are so high in week 1 that they're able to keep on top for the 4-week rolling period the charts cover. This is caused mainly because: 1. The tracks are short 2. There are lots of tracks on the deluxe editions, so more streaming points, 3. It's the effing Beatles. I'm glad Ke dollar sign ha and Kim Petras seem to be on good terms now because I can feel less guilty about still playing Kim's music. She peaks this week, following the deluxe issue of Detour. Confessions II seems to be on the descent now, after 16 weeks in the top 2. It has blown everything else out of the water in the 2020s for me overall, and is in my top 20 albums ever in terms of play count. Ashe's album gets better with each play. The girl group November takeover is coming, with the Spice Girls box set sure to take the #1 spot in a couple of weeks, and maybe the appearance of 2 Girls Aloud albums the week after... 2. Hey James Thanks for your comment. If you get chance, listen to Ashe's album. It may take a couple of plays to click but it's a really solid collection. Shame it charted so badly yesterday in the UK, but I guess for now all the focus is on Stop The Wedding so nobody is too fussed by the tracks that would help the album's chart position here. Expectations is the first track anything with Chappell Roan on has made into my chart as well. Her addition is great.
  3. From this week, the chart tracking rules have been amended. As well as the standing purchased album track totals being converted into matching, additional streaming points, the same applies on purchased singles. This week, for example, Love Sensation has 2 additional streaming points based on the 2 tracks on the 7" single that was delivered this week. On this occasion, their addition has made no difference to its ranking at #2 again. For the albums, the streaming points will be made up of streams for all singles, EPs and versions of albums, relating to a particular album. This week, for example, Confessions IIs streaming points are made up of play counts of tracks from the main album, the Afterhours Edition, and all the single packages. Additional streaming equivalent points only apply during the week of their delivery, rather than the rolling 4-week period the rest of the streaming points are made up of. Danceteria is at #1 for a 6th week, increasing the length of time tracks from Confessions II have been at #1 to 23 in a row! She's on course for 24 with Danceteria tracking to be on top next week. Expectations could peak higher over the coming weeks, as could tracks from Kim Petras' album, which has finally clicked for me. Rubber Soul 2026 remains on top and should still be there next week, though I feel Confessions II is on the decline now. Ashe may get a few weeks on the chart as her album is pretty solid. The coming weeks should see high entries for Girls Aloud and Queen reissues. 4. It's a 22nd week in a row now at #1 for tracks from Confessions II. Danceteria secures the 5th of those 22 today, as Madonna continues to max out her 3 tracks per album limit within the top 20, as do the wildly contrasting Beatles and Freemasons, albeit with remixes of old stuff. On the horizon, there's not a lot that's screaming there's an incoming takeover... However, on the albums chart, a changing of the guard could be coming, following the releases of Ashe, Belles and Galantis collections today. For now, it's a 2nd week at the top for the Rubber Soul 2026 editions, which makes it without the boost of additional streaming points per purchased album's track total, adding 82 streams to last week's total to help it enter at the top. Meanwhile, benefitting from 56 similarly acquired equivalent points, on top of 14 traditional track streams, are Pet Shop Boys and friends, with their Alan Turing concept album. The streaming equivalent points are only added to the chart following the week of purchase. Traditional streaming points are based on the 4 weeks to the Thursday night cut-off, this time being the 15th October. 5. The new duet version pushes Danceteria back to the top slot, keeping Confessions II tracks at #1 for a 21st week on the trot, while the annual Beatles reissue campaign pushes them back into both charts yet again. Next week Pet Shop Boys will be back, following the release of their latest album. A Britney vault track should make an appearance, while Danceteria will probably nab another week at #1 on the Tracks chart. 6. The 3 tracks per album rule is really being put to the test (ft. Lola Leon) as Danceteria becomes the 2nd most streamed Confessions 2 track yet again, causing it to return to the chart, knocking School out after just a week. Certainly helped by the Charli version, even this wasn't enough to remove Love Sensation, which now spends a 14th week at #1. However, there's a lot of movement further down the chart, with 5 new entries and 2 re-entries. As "Zoo" was released on the 10th October 2025 it only just qualified for re-entry as it's still been out less than a year. While remasters don't usually qualify for the Tracks chart, Freemasons have remastered the individual tracks, thereby technically making the Greatest Hits numbers remixes as they'd have had to put it back together again after. Soft Cell enter the album top 3, yet again, this time helped by the addition of equivalent streams being added to the tally equal to the number of tracks on the purchased editions that arrived this week. 7. I've just listened to (the first 9 tracks of) Out Of Control for the first time in ages. I'd never noticed just how little Nadine appears beyond 2 of the singles...She asks for tings and oh oh ohs a bit but that's about it. I think Kimberley's on this one more than Nadine. Looking forward to the new vault tracks and alternate versions. I'm still well into the Tangled Up reissue as well right now.
  8. A few new things are starting to creep into the chart, some more subtly than others. But it's Madylie(?!) still on top of the Tracks chart for a record 13th week. With the Marli duet out today (I'll stop trying to amalgamate the names), could the twice-exited Danceteria come back for a huge re-entry next Friday? Bass Persuades is on the cusp of a takeover, based on the last 3 weeks of tracking. This week will be the decider. On the albums side, Confessions II returns to the top, as Tangled Up starts it's descent, but not after it has secured runners-up slot in the chart of the year-to-date. Will it take until the reissue of Out Of Control for Madonna to be knocked off the top of the album chart this time round? Soft Cell's new album, with the same title as Marli's new track, is out today and could set a new record for albums and tracks with the same names but with different artists, topping the charts simultaneously. Their track record of late has been marvellous, with 3 reissues of their 80s albums all smashing into the top 10 and hanging around for months, and the album's title track leaving the chart this week after a stunning 14-week run. I'm currently on my first play of Danceteria the album and I'm pleasantly surprised, given it's 45 years since their peak years. Anyway, more on that next Friday. Carly Rae Jepsen appears on the album chart for the 1st time ever, as well as the tracks chart for only the 2nd time this decade (the other entry being the amazing album track Psychedelic Switch). But, with all the attention she gets on Buzzjack I thought I'd give the album a go. It's OK...worth a bit more listening I think. I'll shut up now. 11. Hey James If the Charli version of Danceteria is better than the Kylie version of Love Sensation I think there'll be a change at the top soon, however, I'm slightly obsessed with Troye Sivan's Party. I think that may make a surprisingly high entry next week. Thanks for commenting!
  12. It's now 18 weeks in a row that a track from Confessions II has been at #1 on the Tracks chart, 12 of those coming from Love Sensation. Amazingly, hardly any of the push has come from the duet versions. Madonna, Girls Aloud and Ariana continue to have their maximum 3 tracks per studio album appearing on the chart. Early indications suggest Miley and Ashe may have actually peaked already, with Madonna continuing to be #1 for at least another couple of weeks. Carly Rae-Jepsen is bubbling under at #21 with Don't Leave Me On The Dancefloor. With new albums out today from her and Miley there may be a bit of movement upwards for both though... 13. Madonna spends a 17th week in a row at #1, and (probably) the most number of weeks at #1 ever on Tim's Top 20 Tracks with the same song, as Love Sensation clocks an 11th week at the summit out of its 14 weeks on the chart. Unsurprisingly, the track is on course to be the #1 Track of 2026, with less than a third of the year left, and at least another week or two as the weekly #1, based on current projections. The number of artists on the Tracks chart increases from last week's rather low 10, to 11, as Madonna, Girls Aloud and Sam Smith max out their 3 tracks per album allowance on a single chart. However, this is the first week since Confessions 2’s entry week (w/e 9th July) that 3 of its tracks haven't dominated the top 3 positions, as the 2 new Girls Aloud tracks nudge into 2nd and 3rd position. 14. Hey James. Nah I think it had a boost after the album release, but Petal is just in my current tracks playlist as part of the shuffle now. Not a lot has grabbed me from Petal that I want to play the album from start to finish in one go. Thanks for commenting as ever 🙂
  15. With the most weeks at #1 for a track in years Love Sensation keeps Madonna at the summit with one song or another from Confessions 2 for a 5th calendar month without a gap. While the Kylie version is definitely contributing to its success, the original is still the most played of the tracking period (4 weeks to 23:59, 3rd September). Partly as a result of only the 3 most streamed tracks from the same studio album during the tracking period being allowed on the chart at a time, already an 8th track from Confessions 2 enters the chart this week at #3. This time Read My Lips replaces Everything, after just 2 weeks on the chart. Also maxing out their allowances are Girls Aloud with new tracks (or versions of older tracks) from the Tangled Up reissue, which keeps Madonna off the top of the album chart even without the bonus weighting it had last week, that being 1 additional streaming point being added for each track on a new album or reissue physically purchased in the 7 days leading up to the chart cut-off. The accidental discovery of Ashe happened when I heard Stop The Wedding on Radio 2 in the car a couple of weeks back...and I barely bother with the radio anymore. I think the arrangement is brilliant and it's a bit Elton in places. Sam Smith's current album is much better than anticipated. The tracks on their own didn't sell the album to me, but as a whole, it's deceptively listenable, and helps Sam max out their chart allowance too! Ariana also has 3 tracks in the chart, keeping the number of unique artists in the top 20 at a mere 10. Benefitting from the 'streaming' point bonus is Bananarama, whose True Confessions 3-cd edition has 46 tracks, which alone sends the reissue vaulting to #3 this week. I don't think Dolly will be eyeing anything...
  17. Madonna continues maxing out her 3-tracks-per-album limit within the tracks chart, with the remixes for Danceteria finally making appearances, allowing the song to return to its former #3 position, and knock Bizarre from the chart after a bizarre chart run of its own (2-2-2-OUT). Also maxing out their allowances are Girls Aloud, Ariana, Charli and Olivia. Girls Aloud also took it to the wire on the albums chart. Any physical albums released during the last 12 months, delivered during the week leading up to the chart, have their track quantities converted into streams. This was the decider that pushed the Tangled Up deluxe editions to enter at the top by just a handful of points, knocking Confessions II from the top after 7 weeks. The outlook for next week's albums chart is that Girls Aloud may stay on top of the albums chart without the bonus points from album deliveries anyway. There will likely be new (old) entries for Andy Bell and Bananarama. The tracks chart is likely to see climbs for the brand new Girls Aloud vault tracks and, I'm sure there'll be another surprise on the way to keep Madonna on the throne. I was brought up with Dolly records in the 80s and 90s as my parents are Boomers. It's so strange that she was so popular in the UK without much of a track record on the charts here. The internet doesn't seem to be able to tell me much about how she was so popular without the corresponding sales. I know there was some kind of country boom in the mid 70s here, including a multi-act concert at Wembley Arena in 1975 that was Dolly's first step on British soil, but beyond that I'm stumped. They took the wrong 80-year-old. RIP Queen Dolly 🏳️‍🌈 IWALY
