Yes aside from the horrendous human tragedy, they were a fantastically promising band and of course had a posthumous number 1 album. They were very well regarded locally. It hit our whole community very hard, one of the boys went to the same 6th form college as my daughter.

This weekend is the 10th anniversary of the deaths of the 4 band members Kris Leonard, River Reeves, Tomas Lowe and Jack Dakin along with their manager Craig Tarry, in a tragic road accident whilst on tour in Sweden. The band were from my hometown of Warrington, where a new tribute has been created in the town centre, of a ‘V’ made from rainbow umbrellas. RIP 💔😢

Oh, lost 3 in that last batch! I almost got my favourite (and wildcard), ‘Rip It Up’ “, into the final but pleased and surprised it got so far. Perfect pop IMO, that heavily influenced Franz Ferdinand’s career. Got 17 of my votes through though, which is pleasing.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I noticed a weird anomaly today. Now that both ‘Opalite’ and ‘…Husband’ have reached number 1 it means the last song to peak at #2 on the charts was ‘No Broke Boys’ back in August last year and before that ‘Love Me Not’ in May 25. Apart from those two I think there are pretty much no other number 2 peaks in the last 12 months (since APT last left number 2)? Through chart history I’ve been quite fond of a ‘close but not quite’ #2 peak so I’m sorry to see it disappear if that’s the case, I’m sure we’ve all got our favourites! So is it just a transient situation or likely to continue in the future? I’ve not yet checked but maybe it applies to the other higher chart peaks 3,4,5 etc? What’s the likely cause, maybe just a symptom of the charts being more stagnant? Or perhaps once a song has managed to reach the difficult #2 placing, the momentum is such that #1 has become almost inevitable? I’d value your thoughts.

‘be the girl’ is fantastic!

The 2nd single from the War Child Help (2) album. The full cast reads like a who’s who of indie music. Along with the three artists, "Flags" has Johnny Marr, Dave Okumu, Portishead's Adrian Utley, Gorillaz bassist Seye Adelekan, Ezra Collective's Femi Koleoso, and a 43-piece children's choir. It also has another choir, made up of Marr, Jarvis Cocker, the Libertines' Carl Barat, Declan McKenna, Marika Hackman, Let's Eat Grandma's Rosa Walton, English Teacher, Black Country, New Road, and Nadia Kadek! Great song too.

Didn’t something similar happen with Kendrick last year?

Homewrecker is excellent , I’m beginning to think it’s my favourite sombr single. So that almost certainly means it’s not going to be as successful as his last few singles! 😆

I’m sure I’m in the minority but I think Aperture is one of Harry’s best (along with Sign of the Times), so I’m a bit disappointed in it’s chart run so far. But then again I think The Subway is easily Chappell’s best song so what do I know?!

Controversial, but I think Crossfire is the best Brandon/Killers song.

I know it’s very early days, but it’s weird that the biggest song of the year so far hasn’t yet spent a week in the top five in 2026! One of the vagaries of ACR I suppose. I remember it was considered a big thing when ‘Love The Way You Lie’ was the biggest seller of the year without reaching the weekly #1. With streaming it seems only a matter of time before it happens again.

Just catching up on the countdown (great work Rollo, really enjoying it so far) and realised I’ve lost quite a few of my favs. Big Fun is peak Detroit Techno, On My Radio fantastically upbeat Ska and Holidays In The Sun my favourite of the brilliant 4 initial Sex Pistols singles
