Paddington James ranks the 2011 #1's
Yeah I’d definitely say Glad You Came is my favourite Wanted song.

I could go against everyone else and say this was good…. but I’d be lying! Quite a feat to be worse than the other years, so at least it’s got that going for it.

Ooh, I’m really looking forward to this! You’ve really built up the anticipation, I’m sure it will be fantastic!

Julian rates every Top 40 hit: the 1980s edition
I agree with you, there’s less to love in this group. I do however really like the always consistent Depeche Mode, the McCartney Jackson collaboration that works and All Night Long is very catchy. I have a soft spot for They Don’t Know, and weirdly always liked Kissing With Confidence’s quirkiness. But my favourite would be Rocksteady Crews infectious old school hip hop.

Ooh, we nearly had the same number one, I was almost right! Though both of your top two are fantastic, Pass Out just had such energy and it felt it was breaking new ground in UK rap music, so that’s the one for me. Here’s my ranking (though Love The Way You Lie would be number one if it had reached number one…if that make any sense) Pass Out – Tinie Tempah Bad Romance – Lady Gaga We No Speak Americano – Yolanda Be Cool vs. D Cup Once – Diana Vickers F*** You – CeeLo Green Airplanes – B.o.B ft. Hayley Williams Fireflies – Owl City Only Girl (In the World) – Rihanna When We Collide – Matt Cardle Good Times – Roll Deep California Gurls – Katy Perry ft. Snoop Dogg Dynamite – Taio Cruz Written in the Stars – Tinie Tempah This Ain't a Love Song – Scouting for Girls All Time Low – The Wanted Telephone – Lady Gaga ft. Beyoncé Just the Way You Are – Bruno Mars Club Can't Handle Me – Flo Rida ft. David Guetta Nothin' on You – B.o.B ft. Bruno Mars Green Light – Roll Deep OMG – Usher ft. will.i.am Dirtee Disco – Dizzee Rascal Please Don't Let Me Go – Olly Murs Beautiful Monster – Ne-Yo In My Head – Jason Derulo Love You More – JLS Start Without You – Alexandra Burke ft. Laza Morgan The Time (Dirty Bit) – Black Eyed Peas Replay – Iyaz Gettin' over You – David Guetta ft. Chris Willis, Fergie & LMFAO The Club Is Alive – JLS Promise This – Cheryl Cole Everybody Hurts – Helping Haiti Heroes – X Factor Finalists 2010 The Climb – Joe McElderry Shout – Shout for England ft. Dizzee Rascal & James Corden Thank you so much Iz for your fantastic thread and commentaries, I loved listening and following along! Hope I can be anything near to as good as yours in 2013!

68 Guns definitely the best Alarm hit, very anthemic. This Is Not A Love Song is great, sounds like nothing else. Not quite my favourite by them, that would be Rise. Modern Love is not the best, but it’s still Bowie so always great. Dear Prudence is my favourite of this group, that’s how you do a cover version! Turning the Beatles into a goth anthem. New Song is lovely, more good stuff to come from Howard. Karma Chameleon is overplayed of course but I still love it and I’m always happy to hear it. Sparkling is definitely the right word for it.

I really like Airplanes, though the sung chorus/rapped verse thing did eventually get a bit samey. Great that Hayley got a number one!

I love Only Girl, a real banger. I still find it amazing how Rihanna kept up that record of every first single from each new album being brilliant! Such quality control.

Iz ranks the 2010 #1s
Bad Romance is obviously great, definitely top 5 in both 2009 & 2010, I’m now wondering if your number one is going to be the same as mine?
-
Iz ranks the 2010 #1s
I agree I much prefer Good Times over Green Light, but even now it seems surprising it made 3 weeks at number one

I completely forgot This Ain’t A Love Song got to number one, it’s pleasant enough. As others have mentioned, I hear some of The Feeling in there, but also maybe a bit of Keane especially in the piano driven melody?

FLO - THERAPY AT THE CLUB
Love Don’t Break Her Heart, the lyrics are excellent.

Yes one of my all time favourites too, his magnum opus. Great song titles too!

I really like Written in the Stars and the whole Disc-Ovary album. Tine was a big part in making UK rap acceptable.

I really like Once, I heard again it in the ‘real world’ at a party a couple of weeks ago and it sounded great. I thought Diana was one of the best X Factor offspring with her distinctive voice, it’s a shame her career really didn’t take off after this.

Oh I’m sorry Julian, I’ve just realised I completely misunderstood you. I thought you meant last place in the voting was coveted!🤣! Like in the Tour De France! So going last in the playlist is advantageous, is that right? Are there any other places (maybe first) that are also statistically better? I think I need any advantage I can get!

Fantastic song, one of my favourites of the whole 80s. Album’s great too!

Oh no, so if last spot is coveted that means my second to last is the worst position to finish in?! 😢🤣

That’s a great haul! Though I was upset because I missed out on Belle & Sebastian’s Tigermilk (again!). It had sold out within 2 hours!

Fantastic winner well done @King Rollo, also thanks @Dobbo for choosing the song I almost (obviously should have) picked! Finally thanks @Julian_ for my favourite song of the contest and some brilliant hosting. Great work everyone, really enjoyable, I’m already looking forward to the next one. As that reality TV show bloke says, ‘It’s all about the song choice’, so I hope I can get the hang of this song contest lark eventually!🤣
