  1. Not my favourite group of songs so far but still some great stuff. Flashdance is a great euphoric pop record that I didn’t really like at the time but can appreciate nowadays. Pills and Soap was more fantastic political pop from Elvis. ‘I Guess…’ is one of my favourite Elton singles, gorgeous song. I’d forgotten about H2O but that song is lovely. Ultravox and Altered Images continued their consistent output of not quite up with their best. Another great Thriller single if not up to the brilliance of the last 2.
  2. Yes I am really glad Prince got a UK number one, what a travesty it would have been if he hadn’t. One of my all time favourite artists and although this is not one of my favourite songs of his, it’s still a great Prince ballad. I agree with Jade, When Doves Cry is his best, awesome song in every way!
  3. Debut album by the best new band in Britain, Manchester’s Westside Cowboy, to be released 21st August. Includes the excellent new single Kick Stones (The Boys), the best ‘football’ song of ‘26. My vinyl is already on order….
  4. I’d almost forgotten about Dirtee Disco but it’s actually a lot of fun. The sample is great too. Hard to dislike and certainly brings a smile to my face
  5. Yes, Doop is great. Proof that quirky can be done without being crass!
  6. 1 Block Rockin' Beats 2 Setting Sun 3 Hey Boy Hey Girl 4 Galvanize 5 Go 6 Let Forever Be 7 Star Guitar 8 It Began In Afrika
  7. What about the Salmon Dance?! Brilliant song! (Not top 10 I know!)
  8. Agreed California Gurls was the least of the Katy singles from Teenage Dream, the only plus point was giving Snoop a number one. Plus I’m irrationally irritated by the spelling!
  9. Had my second listen through this morning and I think I’m gonna struggle to get down to 15, such great choices.
  10. Ah, I love Everything Changes, on some days it may even be my favourite Take That song! Such a brilliant upbeat track with great vocals by Robbie.
  11. Wow, that was so tough to choose. A fantastic group of songs, with some really euphoric pop bangers there! I had to leave out so many that I love. You can certainly tell it was around summertime too. And I still maintain that Club Tropicana is George’s absolute best song and I’m happy to die on that hill! Wham! - Club Tropicana KC And The Sunshine Band - Give It Up The Style Council - Long Hot Summer Madness - Wings Of A Dove UB40 - Red, Red Wine Tiebreak- Irene Cara - Flashdance... What A Feeling
  12. Not really a fan of Start Without You, especially the attempted reggae vibe, and the ‘children’s TV theme’ chorus, like a poor man’s Boney M. It was apparent Cowell didn’t have a clue what to do with Alexandra’s career by now. I’m still amazed Green Light reached number 1, it feels really corny, though at least has an energetic chorus. Their other number one was much better.
  13. I’ve also done an Apple playlist, if it’s helpful to anyone. Apple Music - Web PlayerBop Idol 7 by Jarrod Schofield on Apple MusicPlaylist · 36 Songs
  14. Yeah I agree with most saying Please Don’t Let Me Go is one of my least favourite of Olly’s singles, but it’s generally inoffensive.
  15. That’s a great list of songs, looking forward to having a listen. Also I’m really pleased someone has chosen my second choice of song, and I’m pretty sure it will do better than the one I eventually chose.🤷‍♂️
  16. So I make that 3 of the top 10 were released this year, and 5 released this decade.
  17. You’ve really built up the anticipation now, can’t wait to hear everybody’s songs!
  18. Some really great songs in this section. Every Breath You Take, despite its overexposure, is still such an unusual song with its dark theme smuggled in behind a fantastic pop rock ballad and that iconic melody. I too love Waiting For A Train especially the rhythm, very clever song. Shipbuilding is gorgeous with very emotive anti war sentiments, I think at the time even Elvis Costello admitted that the Robert Wyatt version was the definitive one. Nobody’s Diary is another wonderful Yazoo single, I love all those early singles and, thanks to your thread, I finally got round to buying their 2 albums on vinyl! In A Big Country is great euphoric rock, right up with the Skid’s best Bad Boys is a great example of early Wham! energetic pop and social commentary, another example of George’s versatility.
  19. Update, my vinyl copy has finally arrived today and it’s great. Album is as good as ever
  20. Yes a bit chaotic, it just feels like squeezing in too many collaborators and trying to get one too many singles from the album
  21. Jaz13music posted a post in a topic in UK Charts
Human Nature is such a gorgeous song!
  22. Okay, 808s absolutely is an all time great album! As regards Derulo, In My Head is okay and Whatcha Say is a banger, but mainly due to Imogen Heap of course.
  23. Yes I agree. In the ‘Best Song Contest…Lottery’ (which was my very first BJs contest) I sent a song that leaned more towards something I thought others might like. This time I primarily chose one I love, but it’s a bit unusual and I feel it might bomb in the voting!
  24. I do like Beautiful Monster but rarely seek it out
  25. My dilemma has been choosing between a song I like or one I think others would like. What do you all prefer to do?
