  1. My dilemma has been choosing between a song I like or one I think others would like. What do you all prefer to do?
  2. Not really a fan of OMG so happy to see it go out here.
  3. I like Pato’s cover version with its uptempo reggae vibes, I just prefer the original a bit more
  4. Malcolm McLaren - Double Dutch Eurythmics - Who's That Girl? Bananarama - Cruel Summer Echo And The Bunnymen - Never Stop The Lotus Eaters - The First Picture Of You Tie breaker - The Police - Every Breath You Take (well I felt that someone had to!)
  5. I agree When We Collide was a vastly inferior version to the original, as you say at least it gave Biffy Clyro some much deserved publicity. The thing I found most annoying was the change of the name of the song, X Factor not only butchering another great song but also ignoring the writers choice of title. Did they think the GP couldn’t cope with ‘Many of Horror’, was Horror not considered an appropriate word at Christmas?! However I think Matt was/is a great vocalist, and in common with many from the show, he just needed some decent (new) material to work with. His subsequent solo career, often self written, was/is good. I once saw him doing an intimate acoustic set a few years ago and he was absolutely fantastic and quite compelling in his performance.
  6. Wow, Black Eyed Peas certainly went downhill quickly. ‘Dirty Bit’ indeed! Also when does the Cowell, Syco, X Factor influence come to an end?
  7. Another poor JLS song, shame because compared with many X Factor ‘alumni’ they had a decent start to their career. I have to admit I didn’t remember this at all before re listening, and I can now see why.
  8. Yeah an okay cover version but a long way behind Nilsson’s version
  9. The age old debate over the ends justifying the means with charity records. This is an awful cover version of one of my all time favourite songs/band, a song that has massive personal meaning to me and my family. Thankfully it appears we’ve finally moved on from this, to people, hopefully, donating to charities of their choice directly when they feel able.
  10. Yet another strong group. After New Order, another fantastic Temptation, especially love the gospel inspired vocals. Tears For Fears and Eurythmics re releasing great songs that deserved better first time around. Great to see the very underrated Bauhaus getting some success. One of Human League’s most pop outings and one of my favourite singles of theirs. Always admired but never loved True. Our Lips Are Sealed is probably my favourite of this set though, a rare great cover version. Rosanna may be the Toto song I enjoy most
  11. Yeah Sure is definitely the weakest of the TT singles in that era, not very memorable
  12. The Climb, and Joe specifically, were harmless enough. Nothing special and again adding very little to the original
  13. Two more poor songs, JLS’s worst single is real barrel scraping. Heroes is a criminal level cover version.
  14. Come On You Reds is okay, as football songs go. Wouldn’t actively seek it out though!
  15. Yes last place is definitely deserved. Football songs are generally absolutely awful when taken purely as ‘songs’ (with 1 brilliant exception) and though some can be ironically ‘good’, this is an abomination. Really looking forward to your countdown @Iz様 🌟
  16. Thank you so much @Chez Wombat for your excellent hosting, my first of hopefully many competitions, I loved the idea of choosing from 1 random year and felt the more challenging the year the better (my masochistic tendencies coming to the fore). It was excellent fun choosing but even more fun listening to everyone’s wonderful eclectic choices, I’ve got so many ‘new’ artist’s back catalogue to dig into now! Then the voting results were brilliant whilst also tense, and so well hosted, well done! Congratulations to the podium @jimwatts @seven. And especially @dandy* for your win, it’s an excellent song that I’ve always loved and stands out even on the fantastic Dare album. Also thanks to @gooddelta (very close to the podium) for your brilliant song choice and @matto for my absolute favourite! Thank you so much for anyone voting for the Buzzcocks, sorry if it was a bit obvious choice, as I said earlier I wasn’t quite ready for just how obscure you guys were prepared to go! I’ve entered unusual stuff to rates on the chart forum before only for them to be completely ignored, so I guess I’ve learned that this is a very different crowd 🤣! I promise to do better next time. Speaking of which, when can we do it again please……….?
  17. This being my very first Buzzjack contest I was unsure where best to pitch my choice. In the end I went with the Buzzcocks, the original ‘indie’ band in the true sense of the word, and a good representation of 1978. I think, now seeing the results, that it was too well known, next time I’ll hopefully be able to go for something more obscure.
  18. Oooh more votes for the fast rising Caravan!
  19. School is great, love the prog styling
  20. Points for everybody, hooray!👏👏👏
  21. All The Way was my favourite @matto , thanks for choosing it. Reminds me of Flaming Lips or Mercury Rev at their best.
  22. Really like that Lightning Seeds song, such a great band.
  23. Natural Thing is gorgeous and chilled great choice @DaTilt
  24. Inspired Bob Dylan choice @Dobbo
