2026 singles year to date estimates
I’ve estimated another rolling 12 month chart, this time to the end of Q1 2026. Thanks as always to gasman and Julian for your help and data. Any corrections to errors, especially at the lower end, are welcome. I stopped at a top 30 as beyond that the totals were closely packed around the 6-700,000s mark and there were a few older songs whose trickle sales during 2026 I was unsure of. If anyone has the time and inclination to expand to an accurate top 40, I’d be very grateful 😊 Ordinary - Alex Warren 2.370m Man I Need - Olivia Dean 1.830m Golden - Huntr/x, Ejae, Audrey Nuna, Rei Ami &KPop DemonHunters Cast 1.770m Love Me Not - Ravyn Lenae 1.240m Rein Me In - Sam Fender and Olivia Dean 1.230m Pink Pony Club - Chappell Roan 1.230m The Fate Of Ophelia -Taylor Swift 1.190m Back To Friends - Sombr 1.150m Where Is My Husband! - Raye 1.110m Nice To Each Other - Olivia Dean 1.110m Undressed - Sombr 1.070m Manchild - Sabrina Carpenter 1.020m Beautiful Things - Benson Boone 1.010m Messy - Lola Young 0.990m No Broke Boys - Disco Lines and Tinashe 0.980m APT - Rosé and Bruno Mars 0.910m Soda Pop - Saja Boys,Andrew Choi Neckwav, Danny Chung, Kevin Woo, samUIL Lee & KPop Demon Hunters Cast 0.900m Lose Control - Teddy Swims 0.840m 12 To 12 - Sombr 0.830m That’s So True - Gracie Abrams 0.820m So Easy (To Fall In Love) - Olivia Dean 0.810m Iris - Goo Goo Dolls 0.780m Birds Of A Feather - Billie Eilish 0.780m Espresso - Sabrina Carpenter 0.780m Raindance - Dave featuring Tems 0.770m Die With A Smile - Lady GaGa & Bruno Mars 0.770m Mr. Brightside - The Killers 0.760m Good Luck, Babe - Chappell Roan 0.750m Dreams - Fleetwood Mac 0.740m The Days - Chrystal 0.740m

2026 singles year to date estimates
Yeah I agree, seems like Olivia has the top 2 sewn up. As for the year end number 1, I still think Man I Need is probably favourite. If my maths is correct, the current lead means Rein Me In needs to claw back an average of almost 5000 per week across the rest of the year, and has only been able to manage that in the last couple of weeks (without ACR). Could be close?!

Buzzjack's Ultimate UK Number 8 Single - The Final - Results
Though the 4 remaining songs weren’t at the very top of my voting I like them all a lot (perhaps I’d just prefer OMD to win). It’s been great that the results weren’t predictable though, at least by me, and that the 4 songs are so different.

Jester ranks the number 1s of 1987
I was waiting for this one to come up, sorry in advance about the incoming enthusiasm guys! One of my all time favourite singles and an absolute epiphany for me when I first heard it back in ‘87. Even now it still sounds like the future. House, hip hop, indie, dub, sampling, innovation, true one hit wonder and controversy over that SAW ‘Roadblock’ sample resulting in a new radio edit and contributing to a precipitous drop down the charts, all adding to its mystique. The sound of club culture taking over UK pop and, as mentioned, resulting in many often fantastic imitators. But the original is still best. It’s very rare that a song can be pinpointed as a true game changer but this is one of them. An easy 10/10 for me (11 if I’m allowed)! And Anitina is also good too.

‘Yesterday’ was the last of my original nominees going out. I agree with many others saying it’s a lovely song but not near the top of my favourite Beatles tracks. Just interested to see the final verdict on that top 6 and which song will go on that roll of honour!

Buzzjack's Ultimate UK Number 8 Single - The Final - Results
Live Forever going out leaves me left with only one of my top 15 songs and my original nominations. It was actually my #1 song of ‘94 when I made my favourites list back then, but I think recent relentless hype seems to have caused ‘Oasis fatigue’ for most of their songs (Some Might Say excepted). Maybe with a bit of time my enthusiasm for them might return? I really can’t call what the order of the top 11 will be now, but I’m excited to find out. I still like them all really.

The Prodigy “Firestarter”
Simultaneously one of the greatest dance, greatest rock and greatest rap records. Brilliant.

Jester ranks the number 1s of 1987
Just echoing the sentiments of others, La Bamba is good fun and it was unusual, especially at the time, to have a non English language #1. I’d agree with your 6/10.

New single and added to the debut album ‘Switcheroo’, released last year, on streaming. Great electronic indie pop.

Yes the original unedited video is memorable and shocking in equal measures (and award winning I seem to remember) though certainly NSFW (if you can find it nowadays)! A great song on a fantastic album, though just behind the two iconic number 1s in my opinion. Another of my favourites gone.

This Charming Man going out leaves me with only 3 of my top 15 left 😢. Not my all time favourite Smiths song, they went onto much greater things, but still a fantastic song and a classic of its time.

Jester ranks the number 1s of 1987
I agree Who’s That Girl is a case of Madonna playing safe and coasting a bit, which was exactly the opposite of most of the songs in her fantastic early career. It’s the epitome of average, so a 5.

Jester ranks the number 1s of 1987
What a great idea for a thread, and one of the very best years to choose! Allow me to catch up then- Firstly, I agree with your bottom 2 songs. Let It Be is a poor, thrown together charity record typical of the era and has very little to offer musically. Also a 1 from me. Boy George’s cover version is nowhere near as good as the original, so feels unnecessary. A score of 2 for me. Being old enough (unfortunately) to have lived through this chart period as a teenager, I can remember the impact Jack Your Body had when it appeared, almost completely out of the blue, at the top of the charts. In the digital era we have every #1 signposted at least days in advance it’s easy to forget that could happen then. It might sound a bit tame compared to what came after but it was such a breath of fresh air, like nothing before, a proper what is that event. It’s fantastic and I’d give it a 9. Star Trekin’ is a difficult one, most times I dislike novelty songs but this feels quite humorous and nostalgic. Nowadays it brings a smile and I’m happy to hear it. Giving it a 6. Reet Petite is a song I liked before its resurgence at Christmas that year, my favourite of Jackie’s and a great 50s song. The video, though innovative at the time, along with the festive period, seems to have led to the idea it was a novelty song, but that really wasn’t the case prior to this year. I’d go for a 7. I’m really looking forward to the rest of your countdown!

Geese - Apollo
Had the privilege to see Geese live last night at a packed Manchester Victoria Warehouse, with the excellent local band Westside Cowboy in support. I still feel the influence of Talking Heads in their willingness to experiment and unpredictability in music and lyrics, but at times they reminded me of the Stones or Led Zeppelin as they had a much heavier sound live and stretched some of the songs almost into jam sessions. We even got an impromptu ‘Fools Gold’ cover version! Maybe a sign of their future development? And yes, going by the audience reaction/devotion last night I do think they’re going to be a massive chart success too! I haven’t seen anything like this since early Arctic Monkeys. Be very excited! All in all a fantastic night from a wonderful and, I now believe, generational band!

Buzzjack's Ultimate UK Number 8 Single - The Final - Results
I suspected and feared ‘Yes’ wouldn’t make the final 30, despite more people giving it top score than any other song, when I saw just how many low scores it got. I loved it at the time of release and I love it now. It’s the best of Suede crossed with the best ‘Spector’ like production and the most wonderful vocals especially that middle 8 into the ending. A timeless euphoric song. Easily my favourite song of the final. I also love Karma Police, I’m a huge Radiohead fan and it’s one of my favourites of theirs. Alongside Paranoid Android, it’s the best song on OK Computer. I think pretty much all my favourites are already out now, but it will be interesting to see where the rest of the votes went. My theory, that songs with consistently high-middle scores were going to do best, may be coming true.

I think I like it most because they took a risk in dabbling in hip hop rhythms, and I’m a big rap fan at heart! Alex said at the time he was trying to write a Dr Dre like song, which couldn’t be a bad thing for me. It sounds like nothing else on the album.

Can’t hear this without thinking of the scene in ‘Reservoir Dogs’! Great song I’m sure I’m in the minority in thinking this is the best song on AM.
