  3. This is sounding fantastic, I love the combination of their vocals. Musically sounds like nothing they’ve ever done before, almost like some long lost 60s ballad, like ‘Some Velvet Morning’ (which could never be a bad thing). The strings remind me of those on LUX too! It’s beautiful, I’m loving it! Edit- Or maybe a Bond song?
  4. Addison’s album was certainly surprisingly great, I really like all the singles from it. Headphones On is excellent but Diet Pepsi would still be my favourite. Interested to see where she goes next. The Weeknd are obviously fabulous, there’d be loads of possible choices to put in a top ten favourite for me. The synth pop songs are generally fantastic, Save Your Tears especially, and the Ariana guest elevated it further I agree. I still have a soft spot for ‘early’ Weeknd too, especially those first three albums that were initially free to download in 2011, when the artist behind them was mysteriously anonymous. I love the dark vibes of those songs, both musically and lyrically.
  5. I agree with DaTilt that Don’t is the least bad of that Sheeran era, though Lego House is really the only one I actually like from Ed! Thinking Out Loud is sickly sweet and cloyingly boring, but it’s such a massive song, so who am I to judge?! Love your ‘extras’ here Jester. Some great recommendations, especially alt-j and Metronomy, thanks!
  6. She Looks So Perfect isn’t too bad at all, in a McBusted-lite kind of way. Perhaps the lyrics are a bit cheesy but it’s quite a lot of fun and has a shouty-sing-along. I enjoyed it more listening to it today than I remember at the time. Maybe my favourite so far?!
  7. As you’ve covered each decade, I think I’ve noticed everyone’s favourites diverging more with time. And I suppose that will especially increase more for the 20s with the use of streaming and vastly expanded choice. You’re much more organised than me, I’m nowhere near having a decade best list so far, though I do have yearly lists. Now time for a confession. I may have been holding back some of my more obscure favourites from the last couple of decades, perhaps for use in a contest at some stage. So maybe you’ll see those in the near future, if the criteria ever allow! The 2020s would probably have the more of these songs, than any other decade. I’ve dabbled a bit in both of these first two artists and liked what I’ve heard. I obviously had to listen to Doomscroller after seeing it mentioned so much across the forum, and I really enjoy it. It’s certainly an epic ride as you described so well and the lyrics are great. The favourite I’ve heard from them would be the wonderful Human League-like synth banger ‘Cascades’, but that’s from a bit earlier in their career, in 2015. I really love what I’ve heard from Heartworms so far. Retributions Of An Awful Life sounds great, I love that goth vibe, there’s not enough of that around at the moment imo. That’s definitely another epic that you’ve chosen here. ‘Smugglers Adventure’, from the debut album of last year that you mentioned, made it into my top twenty of last year. Again it’s dramatic and has an unusual structure, a really great song. They’re showing great promise so far!
  8. I agree How Soon Is Now is the best of a very good bunch, though it’s probably not really a very typical Smiths song. They were my favourite band as a teenager and I still absolutely love the jangly stuff, but like here, they could get quite a heavy sound when they wanted. Fantastic. This Is Not America and The Boys Of Summer are both gorgeous You Spin Me Round is the first big, and definitely the best, of the SAW number ones. Brilliant energy, unique and iconic of course. Let’s Go Crazy is great but not top tier Prince for me Things Can Only Get Better is another one I like a lot here
  9. The Man is pleasant enough, if not very memorable. Maybe Aloe deserved a number one after going uncredited for Wake Me Up?
  10. …and now I’ll have to vote for it!
  11. Out today. Does exactly what it says…..! The Geese overlord performing his wonderful Heavy Metal album, plus three previously unreleased songs, live and even more stripped back. Recorded in 2025 with just him and his piano and a live audience at the esteemed venue ….absolutely spellbinding! The new songs are fantastic too!
  12. Both okay songs so I suspect I’ll probably have them in a similar position by the end of the countdown. I Will Never Let You Down is very average, maybe a bit boring, both Rita and Calvin seemed to be everywhere at the time and that got a bit tedious for me. I like Bang Bang a bit more, at least it was energetic. Jessie does seem to be trying too hard with the OTT vocals and Nicki’s rap was yet another unnecessary one (boy do Eminem and Rihanna have a lot to answer for). Ariana’s contribution gets a bit lost amongst all that.
  13. Some great songs again here, which I agree are definitely topped by The Art Of Noise, completely unique even 40 years later, Trevor Horn letting himself loose I think. I too like Run To You, one of Bryan’s best songs. A New England is gorgeous, and a nod to how great a songwriter Billy Bragg was. Of the others I especially have a soft spot for Thinking Of You and We Belong. Can we see the Rhino video?!🤣
  14. Bombay Bicycle Club are a fantastic underrated band (I couldn’t believe it when you pointed out they had no top 40 singles!) and I love ‘Luna’, great uptempo indie with a driving rhythm and the interesting tabla and, what sounds like a glockenspiel, as percussion. The vocals are excellent though, I love a male/female duet anyway, and it has really beautiful dynamic here. It was in my top ten songs of 2014 back in the day, so definitely in agreement with you… As I am with your number one, which was also in my top ten of 2012! I confess I adore Frank Ocean, such a fascinating innovative artist, I’ve followed him all the way from his early days in the Odd Future collective (with Tyler The Creator, Earl Sweatshirt et al) ‘Swim Deep’ is an early favourite of his. ‘Pyramid’ was the moment he really became a favourite though, an epic shifting almost symphonic opus, with its clever allegory story telling, which you described excellently. A great choice for number 1. He went on to make one more proper album after ‘channel ORANGE’, the wonderful groundbreaking ‘Blonde’ ten (!) years ago. It’s one of my all time favourites. And then, apart from a few scattered singles and features, nothing! Heartbreaking! Another excellent ten, with more great commentary, thank you! My best of 2010s list would look something like this Get Lucky – Daft Punk, Pharrell Williams & Nile Rodgers Runaway (feat. Pusha T) – Kanye West Tilted – Christine and the Queens Out of the Black – Royal Blood NOBODY'S BABY – Sheer Mag Let It Happen – Tame Impala Stay High (feat. Hippie Sabotage) – Tove Lo 212 (feat. Lazy Jay) – Azealia Banks HUMBLE. – Kendrick Lamar Seigfried – Frank Ocean Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) – Arcade Fire This Is America – Childish Gambino Video Games – Lana Del Rey One Life Stand – Hot Chip Luna – Bombay Bicycle Club Loud Places (feat. Romy) – Jamie xx All My Friends (feat. Tinashe) – Snakehips Royals – Lorde Cellophane – FKA twigs Oblivion – Grimes Baptism – Crystal Castles Dance Yrself Clean – LCD Soundsystem Step – Vampire Weekend Assume Form – James Blake We Found Love (feat. Calvin Harris) – Rihanna when the party's over – Billie Eilish Feel the Love (feat. John Newman) – Rudimental I Follow Rivers – Lykke Li Stained – HMLTD Hold Up – Beyoncé Losing You – Solange Midnight City – M83

  18. I have to admit I initially didn’t remember Ride when you mentioned it here, maybe I didn’t listen to the Paradise Edition of Born To Die as much as the main album? But it’s really lovely, epic and dramatic with those strings, I can certainly see why you love it so much! Though I adore the NFR album, Video Games remains her career highlight for me, it’s still breathtaking. Somebody That I Used to Know is such a unique song, especially one that became the biggest seller of the year, that is so rare. It has such powerful simplicity. And how many number ones have a melody based on a nursery rhyme and prominently use a xylophone, yet still sound fantastic. It shouldn’t have worked so well, but it definitely does! A real one off song.
  19. Problem is also okay, obviously Ariana would go on to better things, and the Iggy feature is at best unnecessary and at worst annoying.
  20. Did anyone else wake up this morning hoping to hear an epic house/club cover version of The Waterboys ‘The Whole Of The Moon’? From the indie ‘supergroup’ The Watergirls(!), including members of LCD Soundsystem and Shellac among others. It sounds like a long lost 90s Saint Etienne single. Awesome…,obviously, but better still it’s also for charity, honouring Keith McIvor (also known as JD Twitch of the Scottish DJ duo Optimo), who passed away following a terminal brain cancer diagnosis in 2025. All proceeds go to the Beatson Cancer Charity and the Scottish Brain Tumour Research Centre of Excellence. Give yourself a treat and have a listen!
  21. Excellent work @King Rollo, it was really engaging, thank you so much. I’m in awe of all you guys with your hosting in these contests. In the (very) unlikely event that I actually win one of these, I’m not sure a Luddite like me with his pen, paper and calculator could manage it! Congratulations @Scene for the win, it’s a really lovely ballad that I gave 5 points to. Well done @Lukuzz & @Spiceboy for the podium places. Thanks to @Julian_ for the great Kate Bush song which got my 12 points, I love that Aerial album. Special mention to @dhwe for my favourite new discovery by Modest Mouse, maybe the Johnny Marr feature subconsciously raised it up further for me? Thank you for the 11 of you voting for Here Lies Love, midish table again so I’m pretty happy. Great fun again all !
  22. I love Take Me To Church, great lyrics and choral atmosphere, the vocals are fantastic, Hozier delivering them preacher style. Sad that the wrong one if his singles reached number one I’ve already eulogised about Lorde when talking about Royals in the number one ranking, that first ‘The Love Club’ EP was excellent, it stood out so much as something different when I first heard it. Pure Heroine after it was even better. I love Tennis Court and also Team, but Ribs is definitely another highlight. Such simple arrangements but so effective, and I loved the hip hop influence she brought in. However my absolute favourite would probably be something from Melodrama, I maintain it’s the best pop album this century. It often changes but maybe Writer In The Dark or Hometown Dynamite atm?
  23. Just catching up. Thanks to everyone who has voted for Here Lies Love, including those podium places from mango and gooddelta. So glad some of you felt it was a good discovery. It’s such a catchy song, it was criminally ignored when it was released imo!
  24. Both songs I couldn’t recall from the titles but remembered on listening. Tsunami is decent enough EDM with a good drop, as others have mentioned. Not sure if it needed Tine here though, but he was everywhere at that time and inexplicably seemed to have the golden touch for a while Rixton is okay I suppose, but sadly it’s more Maroon 5 like pop/r&b. Not really essential but better than some of the others out so far. Still waiting for something I really like.

Rubber Soul is the best Beatles album, and I’m willing to die on that hill!
