  3. Thanks for all your input guys, some fantastic suggestions. Some I’d heard before, some new, but all great and I’m loving working my way through them all leading up to Christmas! At the start of my post I mentioned my favourite is ‘The Gritterman’ and wondered if anyone had listened to it?More like ‘Charlie Brown ..’ in that it’s a score for an illustrated book but I can’t stress how fantastic/gorgeous it is, please give it a go!🙏 You won’t regret it! Just be warned, it may reduce you to tears.
  4. #43 Florence Road - Break The Girl
  5. #45 Austra - Math Equation
  6. #46 Benjamin Booker - Slow Dance In A Gay Bar
  7. Mine now saying 78 monthly listeners, that’s exponential growth! Looks like it’s building momentum towards being Christmas #1 again!
  8. A absolute legend! Two more #1s than Janet Jackson, Bon Jovi, The Who, Bruce Springsteen, Guns N Roses Bob Marley, Depeche Mode, Bob Dylan etc, put together!🤣
  9. Seems a good list, I particularly love Jim Legxacy, Royel Otis, Florence Road and especially Geese!
  10. Was right with predictions about a couple, Geese and Jim Legxacy. I still think they could have been a bit more adventurous to promote some lesser known acts (isn’t that meant to be the idea) but that’s par for the course recently for ‘Sound Of’.
  11. Ah, because I’ve got the CD single so I don’t need to stream it!! I could pretend I bought it for my children when they were young, but then again…….
  12. Sad really, the best #1 of the year in my opinion.
  13. #48 Jim Legxacy - Stick
  14. Ah sorry, yes you’re right, I hadn’t realised they’d gone! None of them are songs I actively seek out I’m afraid 🤣
  15. Projector is also fantastic IMO! They can’t do any wrong in my eyes.
  16. It’s one redeeming feature is stopping Take That from getting Christmas #1🤣. Babe is just about my least favourite of theirs!
  17. Yes Blobby! I thought we finally had the full Christmas #1s together… then realised the ‘wonderful’ proper version of Sausage Rolls For Everyone (with Ed and Elton) is no longer there!! 😢
  18. #50 - Maruja - Bloodsport
  19. I’ve been compiling a list of my Top 20 favourite songs of the year, then sharing with my family at Christmas, since 1989 now, so this is my 37th year doing it. I only joined BJ last year but have noticed many of you post EOY lists so thought I’d add mine for this year. I’ve expanded it to a Top 50 as most people’s list seem longer than 20 songs. My only, self imposed, rule is keeping to one song per artist (not features). I realise we have 1 month of the year left, however the number of releases tend to die away in December, and I reserve the right to change if something great comes along before year end. There probably won’t be much, if any, commentary because the songs speak for themselves and also I’m a bit lazy, but I’ll try to post them regularly over December. Then, if anyone is interested, I might post the older lists from previous years at another stage.
  20. This new album is a wonderful throwback to lo-fi 60s, all fantastic melodies and jangly psychedelic pop! Certainly for any Beatles fans (especially the early to mid era) as well as the Byrds, Big Star, the Who and ‘loaded era’ Velvet Underground. Love how they left in all the crackles and pops! This is their the second(!) album this year after Radio DDR, which is also excellent. It’s made by 21 year old Kai Slater from Chicago as a side project from his main melodic rock band Lifeguard (who are also great). Well worth a listen to transport you back to 1965! Here’s an example from the album if anyone’s interested.
  21. Still quite a select group then, thanks Julian! I know it’s very early days but I don’t suppose there’s any reason why Ordinary shouldn’t be joining these mega sellers on very high total sales (4/5 million maybe) by the decade end? To me, it somehow doesn’t seem as ‘big’ a song in culture impact as the others at the moment, but the way sales are much more gradually built up nowadays maybe it will be in a few years? Impressive nonetheless for a song that entered the top 100 at the back end of February, so we’re really only looking at its sales over an approximately 9 month period!
  22. Ordinary now over 2 million, which tracks have managed that in a calendar year before?
