OCC reported on it so I can totally see them resetting their tracks for publicity and if a reunion happens they're definitely resetting them. Means my rate is on hold for an extra week 😂
Oh no, not again!!🤣

This is the greatest and best song in the world!

It still seems a bit mad that there was ever an issue over half a second of someone going "Heyy!" repeated a few times.
But yeah, I haven't heard that version for ages, it's usually the one without the sample that was issued later.
Yeah that’s the one. I agree it doesn’t change my enjoyment of the song much either. I suppose I’m still bitter about the slightly unnecessarily heavy handed SAW lawyers at the time 😆

I’m afraid I’ve gone a bit mad on this today after going through some of my favourites of the year lists!
Seconding the already mentioned Raving I’m Raving by Shut Up And Dance - #2 single banned after 2 chart weeks due to its sample
One of the UKs greatest and most influential number 1s (sorry I couldn’t find the other thread) Pump Up The Volume by MARRS in its original release WITH the ‘Roadblock’ sample (can’t even find that on YouTube)
Bit more obscure, the fantastic I’m Leaving by Lodger #40 single 1998.
Soldier Girl by Polyphonic Spree in its superior single version, #26 in 2003
Yeah Yeah Yeahs debut self titled EP from 2001
One of my favourite Christmas songs A Merry Jingle by The Greedies (Thin Lizzy and Sex Pistols) #28 in 1979
Finally I’d love the Dan Lissvik remix of Haim’s Send Me Down (B side to Don’t Save Me) on streaming, just because it’s absolutely brilliant!

Continue to vote for it if you so wish as it might not make the top 40 after all, but just know if it does it will no longer be part of this rate and your points to it won't count.
No problem, if that happens could I have Stevie Nicks as my reserve +1 vote and move all my others up 1 place please?

Yeah maybe I was being a bit too sarcastic😂.
More seriously though, is this the right place to share something new that you feel others might be interested in, especially if it’s a song/artist that’s less well known?
-
I apologise for posting this amongst the Oasis stuff but I’ve become ever so slightly obsessed with this fantastic country ballad released on Wednesday so felt I had to share it. Starts off simply but then grows into this magnificent Pogues or Dexys like crescendo. It’s absolutely beautiful. Maybe any Zach Bryan fans might like it? -

Thank you that’s great! Sorry, I got quite a few of my initial estimates wrong this time, so I’m very grateful for your help.
Great to see Good luck, Babe! get the number 1 though. Like you, I checked and double checked the figures with the feeling that it couldn’t be ahead of Billie since their positions seem to be reversed in all the other cumulative lists. As jimwatts says it’s odd to see a top 2 that didn’t reach a weekly number one. Reminds me of ‘Love The Way You Lie’ being end of year number 1 back in the day.
Sabrina’s great 12 months is reflected in 3 songs in the top 7 (4 in the top 30). Will her new album be as successful I wonder?
Hopefully if we do an end of Q3 list it will be a bit fresher though. Are we expecting Alex to have ascended to number 1 by then?
-
I’ve had a go at another rolling 12 month best sellers list, this time July ‘24 to June ‘25 (end of Q2).
Thanks again to you all on this thread for any data I’ve adapted.
I’m hoping the top 30 are fairly accurate but any corrections/comments are very welcome. In particular some of the sales totals are very close this time (particularly at the top) so any errors could easily affect the positions.
I struggled a bit more with trying to get accurate sales figures for positions 30-40 when a lot of the older songs become a factor, so if anyone can help with those I would be very grateful. I estimate Iris plus Carry You Home, maybe Red Wine Supernova and Dreams, and obviously Mr Brightside are in there somewhere!
1 Chappell Roan - Good Luck, Babe! 1.565m
2 Billie Eilish - Birds Of A Feather 1.561m
3 Sabrina Carpenter - Espresso 1.551m

5 Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars - Die With A Smile 1.390m
6 Sabrina Carpenter - Taste 1.350m
7 Sabrina Carpenter - Please Please Please 1.317m
8 Shaboozey - A Bar Song (Tipsy) 1.293m
9 Rose & Bruno Mars - APT. 1.290m
10 Gracie Abrams - That’s So True 1.260m
11 Chappell Roan - Pink Pony Club 1.260m

28 Kendrick Lamar - Not Like Us 0.824m
29 Sabrina Carpenter - Bad Chem 0.79m
30 Teddy Swims - Bad Dreams 0.77m
Interestingly the 2024 year end and the likely 2025 year end number ones are sitting together in the middle of the list, perhaps suggesting what I suspected, that a January to December list is no longer fully reflecting the biggest songs of the year in the streaming era.

Didn't realise until writing for this post, sorry to Jaz13music who was the song's sole voter. Great song anyway and based on Jaz's votes I can assure this mistake did not affect which songs made the final.)
No problem, I’m amazed you’re able to keep track of all these stats in the first place!
As you say it’s a great song and at least it’s meant I’ve been listening to it, and the Beastie Boys in general again, after not hearing it/them for a while.
Really enjoying the results so far though, thanks for your great work!

So hard to choose, so I went for my favourite song for each artist to be able to fit more in.
Also it’s great to be able to put in a Beach Boys song in tribute to the genius of Brian Wilson.

2025 singles year to date estimates
in UK Charts
Just reading the discussion about Mr Brightside sales and I hadn’t thought about it before, but is it possible it could reach the incredible 10 million milestone by the end of the decade? Could Last Christmas also manage it, which one is likely to be first do you think?
