I agree I Wanna Wake Up With You is incredibly boring, just meandering along aimlessly. Definitely near the bottom!

Wow, I’d completely forgotten about Don’t Wanna Go Home existed, I think my memory must have been in denial. What an awful song, terrible sample/interpolation and boring at the same time, quite an achievement.

Cannonball seemed completely unsuited to Little Mix (so nothing new for the X Factor) and to be honest I almost forgot it existed. The original is great though.

The Young Ones was one of the all time great comedies, but this song just wasn’t funny or entertaining. Living Doll was always a bit boring anyway. I think it was the very first Comic Relief single though, so at least there was the benefit to the charity.

I find it difficult to place The Chicken Song, parodying Black Lace etc but becoming a one idea joke. Maybe it falls in the so bad it’s good bracket?! Not sure if I’d put it last, I don’t want to spoil the rundown by checking, so I’ll see what else comes along first

Yes I agree, your top 2 are easily the best here, both are very quirky and unusual. Lovecats is one of my favourite Cure singles and Safety Dance sounds so out of time, both then and now. Uptown Girl is joyous with its throwback vibes, it could have come straight out of Grease. I also really like Puss n Boots, the last of Adam’s big hits.

Some fantastic number ones in ‘86, really looking forward to your take on it all Rollo!

Yeah I’d definitely say Glad You Came is my favourite Wanted song.

I could go against everyone else and say this was good…. but I’d be lying! Quite a feat to be worse than the other years, so at least it’s got that going for it.

I agree with you, there’s less to love in this group. I do however really like the always consistent Depeche Mode, the McCartney Jackson collaboration that works and All Night Long is very catchy. I have a soft spot for They Don’t Know, and weirdly always liked Kissing With Confidence’s quirkiness. But my favourite would be Rocksteady Crews infectious old school hip hop.

68 Guns definitely the best Alarm hit, very anthemic. This Is Not A Love Song is great, sounds like nothing else. Not quite my favourite by them, that would be Rise. Modern Love is not the best, but it’s still Bowie so always great. Dear Prudence is my favourite of this group, that’s how you do a cover version! Turning the Beatles into a goth anthem. New Song is lovely, more good stuff to come from Howard. Karma Chameleon is overplayed of course but I still love it and I’m always happy to hear it. Sparkling is definitely the right word for it.

I really like Airplanes, though the sung chorus/rapped verse thing did eventually get a bit samey. Great that Hayley got a number one!

I love Only Girl, a real banger. I still find it amazing how Rihanna kept up that record of every first single from each new album being brilliant! Such quality control.

Bad Romance is obviously great, definitely top 5 in both 2009 & 2010, I’m now wondering if your number one is going to be the same as mine?

I agree I much prefer Good Times over Green Light, but even now it seems surprising it made 3 weeks at number one

I completely forgot This Ain’t A Love Song got to number one, it’s pleasant enough. As others have mentioned, I hear some of The Feeling in there, but also maybe a bit of Keane especially in the piano driven melody?

Love Don’t Break Her Heart, the lyrics are excellent.
