  1. I'm excited for this! I heard people saying it should happen but I didnt expect to be selected as mod, so thats really cool. Hope we can have some great discussions over there and have a good time
  2. I honestly think above perhaps anything else, her showmanship is what made her blow up. Her music is great, but she just absolutely owns a stage. I saw the clips from hungry like the wolf and people had a good reaction for bringing out Duran Duran but they didnt seem to react much for the song. Which is a shame because I havent heard much from Simon Le Bon live but he absolutely killed it, his voice hasnt aged a day.
  3. Ooh, when you get the chance to listen to them, come back and post, if youre willing. Would be really interesting to hear what you liked/disliked from all of them after hearing them like that
  4. I get it. I cant relate but I get it. Please is such a different song than Espresso sonically, and she has said it was the first time she could fully embracing being funny while talking about a more real topic. Which really i think was a big part of why short n sweet became what it is
  5. Banger of a song. Those "hey, huh"s in the chorus is for me the best sound she had pre-emails i cant send
  6. Hey everyone! Welcome to the new Sabrina Carpenter artist forum, a lot of people have asked for it and here we are! I figured as an introduction to this page, i'd ask for everyone's introduction to sabrina. For me, I grew up as a huge boy meets world fan, the original run was before my time but I loved watching re-runs of it on TV whenever it came on. So when girl meets world was announced, i was so excited. And one day I decided to check if i'd seen any of the actors in anything else, and i found her debut single Can't Blame a Girl for Trying, and I was sold. A little over a decade later here we are, anticipating her 7th album! So when was your introduction?
  7. I'm fine with albums that are old staying in the charts, imo if your album is popular enough to stay high like some of these albums you deserve the spot you get. But these greatest hits albums to me are silly. You get double rewarded for having multiple successful albums, essentially.
  8. Its not a replica, it's a reference. The photo she's referencing is a lively dance floor where Marilyn and her husband are in full embrace looking at the same thing in the distance. In Sabrina's cover, nobody is dancing, Sabrina's man is not embracing her and in fact is completely ignoring her, all the men are wearing black suits that fade perfectly into the background while sabrina stands out in a silver dress. It means the tone of the two pictures are different and tell two entirely different stories. Marilyn's vibe is full of fun, Sabrina's reference of it is kinda depressing
  9. I get that interpretation, but I think both covers, the name of the album, and manchild (as well as the video) convey the same message: men are dumb and bad and she's dumb and bad for continuing to stay with them after they show who they are. She's clinging onto the idea of him while he doesn't give a damn about her. In manchild, she jokes she likes her men incompetent. Clearly she doesnt, with how much she rags on them, she's just saying basically "my actions show i must like them, if i keep going for these guys." The name i think says both men treat her terribly and that she is man's best friend because she forgives terrible behavior. I think it's all really consistent. I think the album is going to explore the same themes and come out to realize she's better off without men like this, which is why we got the blindfold visual, and why manchild is track 1. In her last 2 albums, track 1 is big and bold and full of complicated feelings, the album explores these feelings, and then she's left with the natural conclusion of exploring these feelings with the final track.
  10. Iirc, they released the alt cover cd really late last time, idk why
  11. Big merch drop today including signed bundles and the alt cover she said on Instagram was "approved by God" Link to store
  12. It really is. And as I understand, I havent seen the movie, but its a this is spinal tap reference? Which makes this whole controversy even sillier. Like, to me the worst you can say is that it missed her intended mark. And honestly I'd agree with that. I dont like the cover really, i dont like how it is shot, and I wouldnt ever display it. But failing to make a good cover and a problematic are two different things. Anyway the cover controversy seems to be calming down so maybe its best to let it
  13. My favorite wrestler is Dom and I adore Livdom as a on screen couple so I was so happy when I saw this. It's funny to see the comments in comparison between this and the actual cover.
  14. So Manchild's lead is 30k less on Spotify than it was this time last week. I'd imagine itll go ahead tomorrow but that only leaves it 4 days to gain 2500 or so units to make up for the lack of vinyls
  15. Best take for me. I like the numbers sabrina is putting up, but After that huge day 1, Alex was cutting into her lead every day (even after she retook the spotify lead), and sabrina is benefiting from a ridiculous amount of press and the fact she just went #1 adds to it. I wanna see another day and first look before I make any declarations
  16. As long as she leads by more than 43,913 today, she'll be ahead of where she was last week at the same time
  17. Also they did a big promo thing where they projected some visuals on the Elizabeth tower and a few other places, and in that she's totally in control, blindfolding the guy and whatnot.
  18. Actually you know what, the more I think about the conversation around the cover, the angrier ive gotten. Sabrina is a grown adult who by all accounts has complete control of everything she does. She consented in 1 photoshoot to look a certain way. That doesnt mean she consents to be treated that way in any other circumstance. It also doesnt mean she endorses women being treated like objects. If today a man treats a woman worse because of this photoshoot, I'd like to think everyone would say "what kind of excuse is that?" And a step further than that, if a husband and wife were into this kind of stuff but the husband stepped out of his wife's boundaries, I'd like to think every reasonable person would say that he deserves to be punished regardless of what she consented to prior to that or how "objectified" she made herself. And we haven't even gotten into the fact that there is probably something deeper in the meaning. I'm disgusted to live in a world where we lay responsibility to not objectify at the feet of women when we can't even teach men that consent is situational and conditional. Women have to consider every aspect of how a man might take what theyre doing, and then we accept how men won't consider anything but the face value of a photo they see before they act. That to me is a million times more misogynistic than the worst reasonable interpretation you can give about the cover art. And i dont even like the cover.
  19. I hate though that a pop star can have this image, we mostly agree that at minimum the image will partially be a statement of some kind beyond what it is at face value, and we'll criticize her across all of social media for days without breaks, because out of context men might take it to be a sexual fantasy thing. Meanwhile, a male rapper can make a worse cover completely at face value and rap about sexual assault and everything else degrading to women with 0 nuance and go number 1 everywhere and there's 1/10th of the discourse. It's like, are we really doing this in the name of making sure women are being sent the right message or are we doing this to bludgeon 1 woman with the weight of all women in the world? Cause the only conclusion I can make with all of this is that it is every woman's responsibility to make sure men dont objectify women while men are left to freely objectify women as we argue.
  20. The discourse has been insane but I also think this is a bit shallow thinking as well. Even bigger part of her artistry than her sexual music is criticizing the men she dates and herself for continuing to fall for these men. It is a major theme in Taste, Please Please Please, Sharpest Tool, Dumb & Poetic, Slim Pickins, Lie to Girls, and Bad Reviews. And thats just from short n sweet. More importantly, it is the major theme of Manchild and the entire story of the music video. I interpret the cover as an extension of that, critical of men for treating her terribly and critical of herself for falling for these men. She's Man's Best Friend because she tolerates their BS.
  21. The way I see it, if you cant even listen to the latest album of an artist you take your kids to see, you lose all right to complain about the content of that artist's work.
  22. Considering that many think the 2nd single is coming for bst hyde park, it might be Sabrina
  23. About a half hour before the album was announced, she went on IG live, going through vinyls before displaying the Man's Best Friend one. I'm assuming they are a sign of the types of sounds youll here on the album. Here's what they were: 10cc- The Original Soundtrack Donna Summer- Bad Girls ABBA - ABBA Carole King- Pearls: Songs of Goffin & King Carly Simon- The Best of Carly Simon Dolly Parton- Heartbreaker
  24. On another site on manchild release night, I saw someone saying that they didnt manchild as a lead single. And I thought about it for a minute, and disagreed. To me it sounded like a track 1. In emails I cant send, the title track was track 1, a song about how her dad cheating on her mom caused her issues that manifested in her relationships, and then that was basically the theme of the album. With sns, taste opened us with the story of the album and the energy that she would use to talk about this story and would ultimately hurt her by the end of the album. To me, I thought manchild would be a great track 1 for an album about how her choices lead her to be in terrible relationships with awful men. According to apple music, it is track 1, and to me the album artwork only furthers to me what this album will be
  25. I'm fully on board. She said something about how she got inspired to make a new album but was worried it was too soon until she saw that some of her favorite artists did yearly releases. She said it might not be what she does beyond this year, but it put her mind at ease that she could do it now
