DaTilt's 100 Favourite UK Top 20 Hits of 1991
98 Frankie Knuckles - The Whistle Song Knuckles was the DJ at the Warehouse nightclub in Chicago from 1977 to 1982. It is widely accepted that his style of DJing and his selection and the appeal of the Warehouse gave house music its name, although in the beginning, the word 'house' was used only in Chicago to denote something which was cool, hip, fresh or bad. Knuckles had been long time friends with Larry Levan, they had had their musical upbringing together from going to clubs like Loft and the Gallery. Due to his importance in the development of house, Knuckles was often known as "The Godfather of House Music", and as such the city of Chicago named a stretch of street and a day after Knuckles in 2004. His accomplishments earned him a Grammy Award in 1997. As well, Knuckles was inducted into the Dance Music Hall of Fame for his achievements in 2005. Unfortunately he died way too early in March 2014 aged 59. He was mostly famous for his remixes, e.g. "Where Love Lives" by Alison Limerick or "Hangin' On A String" by Loose Ends, but in the end of the 80's and early 90's he had also some commercial success under his own name. "Baby Wants To Ride", "Tears", and "Your Love" (the instrumental of it was used for the famous Eren's Bootleg Mix of "You Got The Love" by The Source"), but it was "The Whistle Song", which gave him the biggest commercial success. This is a nicely laid-back house tune with a very catchy whistle melody without any use of vocals.

Tate McRae - NOBODY'S GIRL
Yeah, this already clicked with the first listen. Much better than "Tit For Tat".
-
SIENNA SPIRO - Die on This Hill
Absolutely fantastic, that this is now an official UK Top 10 hit. It continuously gained a few places each week and I hope it can continue to climb.

DaTilt Top 50 20th Of November 2025
Thanks for commenting. "In Another World" is getting better with each listen and I believe it should climb a bit next week. Thanks for commenting - Ophelia has a gret run indeed. Not sure whether Opalite will reach these heights. Cheap Hotel really needed some time to click, but now it is on the table. I somewhat got a bit tired of "Wicker Woman". Thanks for commenting. "Eyes Closed" and "Clean" are slow burners making their way through my charts. "First Original Thought" is great and I guess it will take some places up next week. Not that sure on "Chains Of Love" so far, but could be another slow burner.

Sergej's Personal Chart 21.11.2025
Hi Sergej, "Wicker Woman" somewhat had not that much stamina for me and I got quickly tired of it. Nice to see "Talk To Me" and "So Easy" holding strong in your Top 10. "Destiny" is a strong new entry for Ellie. Surprised that "Berghain" did not get further. "Die On That Hill" has gained some further places - that is nice. Interesting that "Last Christmas" entered that high already a month before christmas.

Jade's Top 40 | #451 (20.11.25)
Hi Jade, Rosalia still holding strong, while FKA Twigs builds up as her big contender. After listening several times to "Lux" I am still unsure, which is my second favourite song after "Berghain". Maybe "Porcelana", maybe "La Perla". It is a really strong album. Regarding FKA Twigs I finally started liking "Cheap Hotel", "Hard" so far not as much. FKA Twigs is such a special artist - it is a hit and miss for me - some songs of her need some time to get into.

Adele's Personal Chart W/E 21 Nov 2025
Hi Adele, beautiful that "Die On That Hill" is #1. What a fantastic song, which is also Top 10 for 6 weeks and a former #1 in my chart. Nice gain for "Bittersweet" - this song is growing for me week by week. "Destiny" also charted for me. Nice chart.

The BuzzJack Friday Chart Show Thread: 21st November 2025
So happy for Sienna to score a top 10 hit right before the same 20 Christmas songs as every year go into the Top 20. This was a good chart week.😉

gooddelta ranks the UK No.1s of 1998
Quite an OK version of "Perfect Day", but nothing beats the brilliant original from Lou Reed, which was made famous by Trainspotting and was strangely never released as single. Nice selection of the #2's. "Mysterious Times" indeed is brilliant. I would rate "Turn It Up" much higher - one of my favourites from Busta. Also "Horny" would be in my Top 5. My places 25 to 21 are: 25 Billie - Girlfriend 24 Aqua - Doctor Jones 23 All Saints - Bootie Call 22 Melanie B feat. Missy - I Want You Back 21 Boyzone - No Matter What A complete mixture of styles. I started liking the songs from 23 onwards. "Girlfriend" is a bit too cheesy for me. I don't mind "Barbie Girl" - that one is really catchy and the Perky Park Club Mix of it is pure brilliance. However, "Doctor Jones" is in my opinion only a weak variation of "Barbie Girl" . I like, however, the "D-Bop's Prescription Mix" of it, which I have put in several Eurodance mixes of mine, but that mix has not much in common with the original and uses only a small vocal snippet of it. "Booty Call" I find OK, but it is nothing special, and so it is with the other two songs at 22 and 21.

This is a nice R&B song, which would be slightly higher in my ranking. I can also recommend the Tuff Jam Remixes providing a nice UK garage adaption of the original: https://www.discogs.com/release/184675-Usher-You-Make-Me-Wanna-The-Tuff-Jam-Mixes

DaTilt's 100 Favourite UK Top 20 Hits of 1991
99 Definition Of Sound - Wear Your Love Like Heaven Definition of Sound was a London-based dance-music group, consisting of Kevin Clark and Don Weekes. "Wear Your Love Like Heaven" was their biggest hit. A nice blend of hip-hop with electronica somewhere between Hip-House and De La Soul. Absolutely fun song.

DaTilt's 100 Favourite UK Top 20 Hits of 1991
Really like the retro countdowns here and thought now it is time for me to do one. As first year I have chosen 1991 as this is one of my favourite years of the UK charts. I was 14 back then and I have great memories on the songs charted in that year. At that time I was much into rave, but there is plenty of good stuff also from other genres. As entry criteria I chose just songs which made it into the Top 20 in the UK. I am from germany, but the main chart I always followed was the UK chart. Enough talked - now it is time for the first song: 100 Amy Grant - Baby Baby This was the breakout hit for Amy hitting #1 in the US and #2 in the UK. Absolutely brilliant piece of synth-pop with great vocals.

gooddelta ranks the UK No.1s of 1998
As said earlier the B*Witched songs are among my least favourite number ones of 1998. They were definately created for the younger teens. I fins nothing spectacular among them - their voices are not very strong - that's why none of them really had a solo career afterwards. Also the productions were very flat and the Irish elements did not fit very well in. Definately not my cup. I would give this a 3 out of 10.

"Freak Me" is a a very nice song, eventhough it is a cover version. Dane Bowers a really good singer - "Shut Up And Forget About It" is a very nice solo-single from him. My favourite from him is "Buggin'" produced by the True Steppers - stone cold 2-step-classic:

gooddelta ranks the UK No.1s of 1998
Now re-listened to all 31 #1's of 1998 (omitted "Perfect Day" as this was already #1 in 1997 and just went over into 1998 for one week). It was quite interesting that some songs sounded better than expected - others worse. My bottom 6 are: Run-D.M.C. Vs. Jason Nevins - It's Like That B*Witched - To You I Belong B*Witched - Rollercoaster Spacedust - Gym & Tonic B*Witched - C'Est La Vie All Saints - Under The Bridge / Lady Marmalade When commenting on "Under The Bridge" I totally forgot about B*Witched being that successful in '98. To me their songs were really cheesy and their vocals very flat. Quite forgettable stuff taking 3 out of the 5 bottom spots. About Spacedust we already talked, an awful rip-off of the Bob Sinclar original. At the bottom I put the Jason nevins remake of Run DMC - this is one of my most hated songs of all time. The Run DMC is quite OK, but that hard bassdrum destroys everything. At 26 I have also "Under The Bridge", which sounded better than I remembered.

Now That's What I Call Music!
I usually omit this by creating separate folders for CD1 and CD2 and use ## Artist - Title as format for ripping it in dbpoweramp.

gooddelta ranks the UK No.1s of 1998
This release is near to the bottom for me. All Saints worst single ever. I like the original of "Under The Bridge" and what it doesn't need is a cover by a girl-pop-group. On the other side, at least for me "Lady Marmalade" is one of the worst songs ever written. I always get agressive when hearing that "get ya coochie da da ya ya"-vocal - so any version of that song is not for me. I believe this is the second-last for me only beaten by that awful remix of Jason Nevins on Run-DMC.
