New Zealand Group G OFC (1/1) World Ranking: 85 Best Result: Group Stage (1982, 2010) Fixtures: Iran (16th June, 2AM) Egypt (22nd June, 2AM) Belgium (27th June, 4AM) The biggest benefactors of the extended World Cup, Oceania’s guaranteed spot meant that instead of having to worry about an intercontinental play-off against a South American or African side, the most difficult task New Zealand had to worry about was a tie against New Caledonia. Australia’s move to join AFC in 2006 has been a gift and a curse. They are now, by far, the strongest team in the region but they’ve lost their only chance to test themselves against a good side competitively outside of these tournaments. They’re only games against top sides in recent years have been friendlies and it’s hard to build a proper side that way. Playing in the OFC confederation has made them underrated (especially in World Rankings) but it’s also what holds them back. They went unbeaten, with three draws, in their last appearance in 2010. The Manager: Darren Bazeley An Englishman, Bazeley spent 10-years at Watford, making 283 appearances before shorter spells at Wolves and Walsall and ending his playing career with 4-years in New Zealand. As a coach, he’s managed the national team at under 17, 20 and 23-level, including taking the u23 side to the most recent Olympics. At club level, he’s had times at Colardo Rapids and Newcastle Jets. He’s got the side playing good football but the big task will be finding ways to hurt higher-standard defence units. Key Player: Chris Wood (Nottingham Forest) It’s an easy choice and it would have been an even easier one if this tournament was played last year. An injury-hit season means that there are questions regarding how ready Wood will be for this tournament but he was back on the scoresheet on Friday and will look to end the season strong and lead Forest to Premier League safety. His 20-league goal season last year was the strongest of his career and he’s always turned up for his national side. He is their top goalscorer with 45 goals in 88 games. One more appearance will see him as have the most caps of any New Zealand player. At 33 with some nasty recent injuries, this is probably his last chance to bag a World Cup goal. Why they're actually going to win it: Unbeaten at their last World Cup, if they do that again, they’ll probably win it this time. Especially with 3 teams qualifying from most groups.

43. Bosnia & Herzegovina Group B UEFA (16/16) World Ranking: 65 Best Result: Group Stage (2014) Fixtures: Canada (12th June, 8PM) Switzerland (18th June, 8PM) Qatar (24th June, 8PM) Booking their spot at their second World Cup in the most dramatic fashion, Bosnia & Herzegovina have become heroes to many for hilariously making it three in a row that Italy have missed. Their previous experience was in 2014 where a victory against Iran was not enough to see them out the group thanks to odd-goal defeats by Argentina and Nigeria. However, this is no longer the Bosnia & Herzegovina team of yore that reached #13 in the World Rankings in 2013. This is a side that has never made the European Championships, finishing with 8-less points than Luxembourg (including home and away defeats) in their last campaign. There’s no longer Miralem Pjanić or Asmir Begović and while Edin Džeko is still a key figure, he’s now in his 40s and is not operating at the same level. It’s impressive that they’re here after being underdogs against Wales and Italy but there rode their luck with penalties and struggled to break-down a 10-man Italy side. The Manager: Sergej Barbarez After a successful career as a striker in Germany, playing for many of the big sides (Dortmund, Leverkusen, Hamburg) and the Bosnia national side, this is the 54-year-old’s first managerial job and he’s settled into it extremely quickly with a strong qualifying campaign that only saw them lose one match. He caused some controversy before the Wales play-off match by claiming that the Welsh Steve Cooper hadn’t been picking Benjamin Tahirović for Brøndby to try and help give Wales the advantage. Key Player: Kerim Alajbegović (Red Bull Salzberg) Džeko is the obvious pick as he’s still the man Bosnia rely on the score the goals but I’m going to go with their young teenage winger Alajbegović. He netted penalties in both of the ties verses Wales and Italy and the composure he shown was years above his age. He’s already agreed to move back to Bayer Leverkusen, where he spent most of his youth career following a buy-back clause, in the summer after impressing in his debut season in Austria but Inter are reported to be interested in securing his services long-term. Why they're actually going to win it: They’ve already defied the odds in the play-offs to get here and proved that they know how to take some penalties if it comes to that.

Cape Verde Group H CAF (10/10) World Ranking: 69 Best Result: N/A Fixtures: Spain (15th June, 5PM) Uruguay (21st June, 11PM) Saudi Arabia (27th June, 1AM) Just like with Curaçao, Cape Verde are a team that rely heavily on their diaspora to make up the numbers of their side. This will be their first appearance at the World Cup after they shocked everyone by topping their group with Africa’s most frequent-qualifiers Cameroon. Their 3-0 win versus Eswatini caused absolute scenes across the ten islands that make up the country and there is a real sense of hopefulness for the team going into this tournament, despite missing out on the recent AFCON. Their ‘international’ side composes of players born in Portugal, Netherlands, France, USA and Republic of Ireland. The Manager: Bubista Born in Cape Verde, Bubista played his whole career in the country and made 21-caps for the national side. He is already a hero there for leading them to two AFCONS (and getting out of the group stages on each occasion) and, more importantly, securing their first participation on the world stage. Under him, Cape Verde are a possession-side and I think they will struggle to do this against a higher standard of opposition in Spain and Uruguay. Key Player: Dailon Livramento (Casa Pia) Born in the Netherlands, Livramento is a pacy forward with Serie A experience and, at the tender age of 24, has already written himself into Cape Verdean folklore with some important goals (including in the historic 1-0 win versus Cameroon) to book their spot at the World Cup. He first made his debut for the country in 2024 and had a slow start, not scoring in his opening 10 matches. But since then, he’s been prolific with 7 goals in his next 10 games. Currently on loan at Casa Pia in Portugal from Hellas Verona, he has the potential to be one of those players that makes a name for themselves this summer. Why they're actually going to win it: Not many other teams show as much togetherness as this Cape Verde side so you know they’re always going to give 100% for each other.

Sugar Talking is probably the weakest on the album but it's one of my favourite albums so I still love it. Touch is a bit generic but sounds a lot better than what they've been making over the past year or so. I think the verse on SHE DID IT AGAIN is a bit weak but I like the verses, First Light, Stay Love and I Feel So Free are all songs I would describe as being 'alright'. The sombr one is the only one that I think is truly naff. Easily his dullest song yet,

Uzbekistan Group K AFC (8/9) World Ranking: 50 Best Result: N/A Fixtures: Colombia (18th June, 3AM) Portugal (23rd June, 6PM) DR Congo (28th June, 12:30AM) They’ve come close many a time before but Uzbekistan took advantage of the extended World Cup to book their place at the finals for the first time. They did it early too, finishing above UAE and Qatar to obtain an automatic spot at the first round where they could. They were praised for their attacking tactics during qualification and if I was doing this list last year, they would have been higher. The main reason I’ve dropped them this low is because of their managerial appointment of... The Manager: Fabio Cannavaro Multiple Serie A and La Liga titles. World Cup winner. Ballon D’or winning centre-back! Cannavaro certainly has some pedigree. However, you might notice that all of those honours were at playing level. As a manager, he hasn’t had the same level of success. His times in China were ok but he also has, more recently, a relegation from Serie B with Benevento and a disastrous spell at Dinamo Zagreb on his CV. But the main reason that I think this could spell disaster is the complete 180 in style between him and the previous manager. As one of the best ever defenders, Cannavaro favours the defensive approach while Uzbekistan have been all-about-attack in recent years. We rarely see teams adapt this quick. Timur Kapadze guided them to qualification but was controversially let go last October. Key Player: Abdukodir Khusanov (Manchester City) An easy pick, especially with their new defensive approach. Khusanov is the first Uzbek player to play in both Ligue 1 as well as the Premier League. After a shaky start at Man City, he has recently become one of the first names on the team-sheet and has been a catalyst in their upturn in form that has made them look title-favourites. Blessed with great pace for a CB, he is looking very composed and will need to be at his best to stop some potent attacking sides in Portugal and Colombia. Why they're actually going to win it: Cannavaro has done it all before (at playing level) and will be keen to prove the doubters (me) wrong. He certainly has a better side than this ranking would suggest, if he can.

It’s been an arduous road to get this film into cinemas. It was originally to be released last year but major reshoots ended up being required and the whole third-act needed to be scrapped to remove refence to Jackson’s abuse allegations after it was discovered that one of the victims had a clause in their settlement which meant they couldn’t be mentioned in any movie. But that hasn’t deterred audiences as this has had the biggest opening for a biopic of all-time, surpassing the £9,530,463 (#1) that ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ put up in 2018. That film went on to gross £55 million. That feels like it would be hard to catch but who knows. As you will see with the holds for other films, cinemas were hurt by the sunshine this weekend so this had potential to have been even bigger. Directed by Antoine Fuqua, this is already his biggest grossing film of all-time with the opening weekend being enough to beat ‘The Equalizer 3’ (£8.6 million, 2023). Previews help ‘Rose Of Nevada’ (£172,025, £109k without previews, #7) to be the next highest new entry. The latest film from Cornish director Mark Jenkin who known for making low-budget, experimental films set in the region where he wears many hats (director, writer, editor, cinematographer, composer). His openings are getting bigger each time with this being well-above ‘Bait’ (£48,044, #25, 2019) and ‘Enys Man’ (£103,250, #14, 2023). ‘Bait’ was a huge word-of-mouth hit, closing with £540k. This is his most ambitious film yet, focusing on a the spooky reappearance of a fishing boat that went missing 30-years earlier and has his starriest cast with George McKay and Callum Turner taking lead roles. Opening at #8 is ‘Exit 8’ (£140,265). Adapted from a videogame, this is a Japanese horror about a man stuck in a lopping subway corridor. The other new entry at #10 is the latest from the Royal Opera House ‘The Magic Flute’ (£87,521, #10). With its midweek showings, it’s up to £441,080 which would have been enough for it to rank in the top 5. We also see a re-release of ‘Fight Club’ enter at #9 with £98,468. The past two weeks have seen eleven new entries in the top 10 and the only one that’s held on for a second week is ‘Lee Cronin’s The Mummy’ which holds at #5 despite a 63% drop. It’s at £1.8 million which puts it above ‘M3GAN 2.0’ and ‘Drop’ in terms of recent Blumhouse releases but behind popular sequels ‘Five Nights At Freddy’s 2’ and ‘Black Phone 2’. ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ loses top spot after 3-weeks with a 57% drop. There’s no point comparing it to the original anymore as it’s way off that film’s pace now but it is now less than £2 million behind the final total of ‘Zootropolis 2’ which was the highest-grossing animated film last year. The other kids film, ‘The Magic Faraway Tree’ has an even harsher fall (-61%) but is now only about £50k off overtaking the gross of ‘Hoppers’. ‘Project Hail Mary’ continues to do well, having the strongest hold this week (-50%). It has now overtaken ‘La La Land’ (£30.7 million) to be Ryan Gosling’s 2nd biggest hit. The final holdover this week is ‘The Drama’ which has its worst drop yet (-58%) but still looks well on track to reach double figures soon. There are two further new entries in the #11-15 section: ‘Mother Mary’ (#13) and ‘Primavera’ (#15). Next week is the official start of the summer movie season and sees the openings of ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’, ‘Hokum’, ‘That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime: Tears Of The Azure Sea’, ‘Dhabkaaro’, ‘Wild Foxes’, ‘Di’Anno: Iron Maiden’s Lost Singer’, and ‘I’ve Seen All I Need To See’. We also see a re-release of ‘Slither’. Can any of them top the charts?

Iraq Group I AFC (9/9) World Ranking: 57 Best Result: Group Stage (1986) Fixtures: Norway (16th June, 11PM) France (22nd June, 10PM) Senegal (26th June, 8PM) The final side to book their spot for this summer, Iraq took the long route to the tournament, needing 107th minute winner to beat United Arab Emirates in the fifth round of Asian qualification before seeing off Bolivia in the intercontinental Play-Off in March. On paper, they are probably better than the being the 46th ranked team at this tournament but their place in the group of death has made their progression look out of reach. Their only previous World Cup was in Mexico where they lost all three group games. A repeat of that is looking likely. The Manager: Graham Arnold Arnold took his home nation Australia to the last World Cup as underdogs and led the team to the last 16 before being knocked out by eventual champions Argentina. This equalled their best ever run and Arnold signed a new contract for this World Cup campaign. However, a poor start to qualifying that saw them lose to Bahrain and draw with Indonesia saw him hand in his resignation. He took over Iraq in May 2025 and a win against already-qualified Jordan in his second game saw them book a spot in Round 4 of Asian qualifying where a win versus Indonesia and a draw with Saudi Arabia was not enough to book them direct qualification due to goals scored. Key Player: Aymen Hussain (Al-Karma) Now playing back in his home country in a move which was the record for an Iraq league transfer, Hussain made his debut for his national side in 2015 and has since scored 33 goals, including the winner against Bolivia that sent them to this tournament. His club career has taken him all across Asia (with a trip to Morocco too) and he has been prolific nearly everywhere he’s went. It’s also worth mentioning Manchester-born Zidane Iqbal who is still only 22 and played Champions League football at Manchester United. Why they're actually going to win it: If they get through that group, they will have had some brilliant results against top sides which will send confidence and momentum to sky-high levels.

1. A Minecraft Movie - £56.6 million Be there and be square. Four misfits find themselves struggling with ordinary problems when they are suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld: a bizarre, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination. To get back home, they’ll have to master this world while embarking on a magical quest with an unexpected, expert crafter, Steve. Director: Jared Hess Cast: Jason Mamoa, Jack Black, Emma Myers Release Date: 4th April 2025 Distributor: Warner Bros. Certification: PG Genre: Kids Rotten Tomatoes: 47% IMDb: 5.6 Top 15 Chart Run: 1-1-1-1-3-3-4-7-11 (9 weeks) Opening Weekend: £15,013,136 (#1) Holding on the the top spot since early in the year, 'A Minecraft Movie' was the top film of 2025 in the UK. Despite the comfortable lead and 2025 being a great year overall for cinemas, it's gross of £56.6 million would have only saw it land at #4 in 2023 and 2024. Video game adaptations have went from a joke to en vogue in recent years and this is the biggest of the lot in the UK. It was certainly helped by the viral Chicken Jockey trend and the chart success of 'Steve's Lava Chicken'. Aside from 2020 when cinemas were closed for most of the year, the last time the top film of the year in the UK didn't hit $1 billion worldwide was 'The Jungle Book' which similarly just fell agonisingly short.

2. Wicked: For Good - £47.2 million You will be changed. As an angry mob rises against the Wicked Witch, Glinda and Elphaba will need to come together one final time. With their singular friendship now the fulcrum of their futures, they will need to truly see each other, with honesty and empathy, if they are to change themselves, and all of Oz, for good. Director: Jon M. Chu Cast: Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Jeff Goldblum Release Date: 21st November 2025 Distributor: Universal Certification: PG Genre: Musical Rotten Tomatoes: 66% IMDb: 6.6 Top 15 Chart Run: 1-1-3-2-3-7-8-12 (8 weeks) Opening Weekend: £18,858,826 (#1) Despite having a record-breaking opening weekend, Wicked is denied consecutive years as the biggest film as 'For Good' has to settle for second place. That opening weekend was the biggest we'd seen since 'Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness' in May 2022 and was both, the second-biggest opening for a musical and the second biggest opening for a PG film (both behind 2017's 'Beauty And The Beast'). What has always been said about the stage-musical of Wicked is that the second-half isn't as good as the first and that seemed to be the consensus with the film too with this having a more muted reception from both critics and audiences and missing out any Oscar nominations. I'm a rare person who enjoyed this more than the first. The fall-off was even more apparent in worldwide, but this finished a way off the £61.2 million of the original here too.

3. Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy - £46.4 million New decade. New diary. Bridget Jones navigates life as a widow and single mum with the help of her family, friends, and former lover, Daniel. Back to work and on the apps, she’s pursued by a younger man and maybe, just maybe, her son’s science teacher. Director: Michael Morris Cast: Renée Zellweger, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Leo Woodall Release Date: 13th February 2025 Distributor: Universal Certification: 15 Genre: Rom-Com Rotten Tomatoes: 88% IMDb: 6.5 Top 15 Chart Run: 1-1-1-2-2-3-4-8 (8 weeks) Opening Weekend: £12,298,966 (#1) Landing in bronze is a film that didn't even get a theatrical release in the US. Despite this, it earned over $150 million worldwide against a $50 million budget. The fourth film in the series, this got off to a very fast start with it's £13 million debut weekend being the biggest ever for a rom-com (beating 2004's Bridget Jones entry 'The Edge Of Reason') and the fourth-ever biggest February debut. It continues to do well but ended up just missing the £48.3 million of 'Bridget Jones's Baby' (2016) to be the biggest film of the series. I've only see the first two of these films but I've heard this one is much less comedic but is a very good drama.

4. Avatar: Fire And Ash - £42.5 million Jake and Neytiri's family grapples with grief, encountering a new, aggressive Na'vi tribe, the Ash People, who are led by the fiery Varang, as the conflict on Pandora escalates and a new moral focus emerges. Director: James Cameron Cast: Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver Release Date: 19th December 2025 Distributor: Disney Certification: 12A Genre: Sci-Fi Rotten Tomatoes: 66% IMDb: 7.3 Top 15 Chart Run: 1-1-1-3-4-4-6-8-10 (9 weeks) Opening Weekend: £9,015,796 (#1) This made nearly $1.5 billion worldwide which would be a runaway success for practically any other film but this performance has actually put the franchise's future in doubt. The first film is still the biggest of all-time, making $2.9 billion with sequel 'The Way Of Water' making $2.3 million. The UK has followed a similar pattern with the first and second films being the 5th and 12th biggest in the country while this hasn't even came close to the top 50. If this trend continues, they will quickly start to become unprofitable thanks to their huge $400 million+ budgets. It seems like critics are getting tired as this got very mixed reviews (including a savage 1-star review from the BBC). The top 12A certificate of 2025.

5. Lilo & Stitch - £36.9 million Hold on to your coconuts. The wildly funny and touching story of a lonely Hawaiian girl and the fugitive alien who helps to mend her broken family. Director: Dean Fleischer Camp Cast: Maia Kealoha, Sydney Agudong, Chris Sanders Release Date: 21st May 2025 Distributor: Disney Certification: U Genre: Kids Rotten Tomatoes: 73% IMDb: 6.7 Top 15 Chart Run: 1-1-1-2-4-5-6-7-9 (9 weeks) Opening Weekend: £9,568,923 (#1) The #1 'U' certificate film of 2025, 'Lilo & Stitch' took less than a week to outgross the 2002 original (£13.2 million). That film is one that has grown and grown in reputation over the years to the point where Stitch feels like a ubiquitous presence in pop-culture. This was one of only 4-films to gross $1 billion worldwide last year but I still think like it felt like it would be bigger. This is Disney's most success live action remake since 'The Lion King' (£76 million, 2019). We'll see how this summer's 'Moana' can compare.

DaBaby, Tory Lanez & Lil Wayne - WHATS POPPIN (NE) Sabrina Carpenter - Nobody’s Son (NE) Madison Beer - bittersweet (172-200) RYUJIN - Run Away Four songs from 2025 make their debuts in this section, coming from Alessi Rose x2, Sabrina Carpenter and ROSÉ. Runaway was the most hit-sounding of the solo tracks on ITZY's BORN TO BE album and is the second-highest here. It feels like a track that could have been a single for the group. RYUJIN feels like the leader of the group so shocked she hasn’t had a proper solo yet. WHATS POPPIN has some unfortunate choices of features (even Harlow's been controversial recently) but Tory's verse does go hard and DaBaby was sounding good at this time too. It is the solo version I go back to now though. It's no surprise that lots of Cole's standout tracks this decade have just been one verse and no hook because he's one of the best at finding a cool pocket and just going and going with it. a p p l y i n g . p r e s s u r e has a ramble-y outro that probably annoys some but it takes something special to same MLK and feel earned. Boys Like You was ITZY's first full-English release and feels softer than their usual tracks and more akin to a FIFTY FIFTY or The Feels by TWICE. Such a cute release for them with their vocals sounding on point. Dreamin might be the best opening track for any album in the 20s. This song just touches your soul. It's so warm with Common honouring all the black people that have impacted the world and Pete Rock sampling to perfection with the dreamy, trumpet-laden production. ‘From the stellar regions of the soul’ indeed. The (sampled?) chorus on Magic is so catchy that it makes it easy for Bandokay and Double Lz to sound good by association. Such an underrated track with the pair showing lots of personality. Aside from one poor line, Pi is rapping at its absolute peak. Ab Soul and Daylyt are top tier and have so much chemistry, it's mad that their not already a duo full-time. Cole then steps up to the task with some of his smoothest, bar-heavy lines of his career. A bit of a masterclass. First released in 2021, it wasn't until 2024 that Soaked picked up traction on TikTok and became a UK top 100 hit, Probably my favourite bit of 00s nostalgia bait we’ve had this decade. The production does feel a bit rough and unclean but I think it works in its favour. Please Please Please is my least favourite of Sabrina's huge #1 hits but she has a great hitting rate and the country vibes in this are great. I just don't think it has the same levels of fun as her others and the Dolly Parton remix did nothing for me. Boyfriend is another hit that I’m very happy that TikTok inspired. I remember buying the CD for £1.99 to help it gain an official top 10 peak. It was rush-released after the snippet started going viral and it does sound a tad unfinished but I still love it. This style of dark-pop was all the range for a brief period and its definitely one of the best of the genre. I’m patiently waiting for Dove to go viral again. The Alice in Wonderland inspired video is a great fit for Reckless as it has a dreamlike, fairytale-eqsue sound throughout. It’s a gorgeous ballad and sounds amazing live which was what originally gave it the boost in my chart to become a big hit. HOT TO GO! is unapologetically fun. The cheerleading chant chorus is hard to forget and gives the song such infectious energy. It's my top Chappell song and it's because it just makes you feel good listening to it. Need to Know has dropped-off a lot since it landed in my EOY top 20 in 2021 but its sounding good on relisten. Doja gives it her all with different flows, singing sections and some of the craziest adlibs I've heard. Doja really was the artist that defined the early 20s but it does also mean that her songs all now feel too associated with that time to be fresh. I was never a massive Gaga fan but she scored two quickfire #1s in my chart by collaborating with two of my favourite artists of all-time. Sour Candy is short and sweet but fits in a lot into its 2:37 runtime. It's remarkable how similar its beat is too the one on Truffle Butter. I reminded myself of what my thoughts of In the morning were at the time by re-reading my EOY chart and this part of my commentary really made me laugh: “I have no idea why they consider themselves to be in the mafia or why the randomly go 'ring ding ding ding' in the middle of the chorus like they're the Crazy Frog” lol. Going back through ITZY’s older hits is just making me remember why LIA was my bias before her hiatus. She eats up her parts in this! she's all i wanna be was, apparently, originally written to be a ballad but they made the right choice in making it punkier (inspired by good 4 u?). I initially thought that it didn’t go hard enough with the instrumentation but I wouldn’t have it any other way now. MONEY is the sort of song that LISA was born to make. It's confident, bold and full of charisma which is her style. Having the dance performance as the video was a masterstroke too and allowed her to show off her talents. THE GIRLS was BLACKPINK's song to promote the release of their mobile game. Howeber, delays meant that the song didn’t release until months after so I must have heard this 100x before on the loading screen for the game before it was actually out to stream. LISA’s rap hits and the chorus is catchy but they have much stronger material in their back-catalogue. Space is Leah's biggest hit here but this placement feels too low and too high at the same time. It doesn't feel on the same level as some of the other songs in this section but, as an artist, Leah has had so many hits in my chart it feels like she should have something higher. I really associate this song with Prague due to the amount I played it on my holiday there. It had a cool bassline and I enjoy the distortion on the chorus. I wasn't expecting Taylor and Florence to sound so good together but Florida!!! sounds exquisite. Jack Antonoff's production was starting to sound stale but he pulled it out of the bag on this one. It feels so epic, in large part due to Florence's strong vocals. A massive highlight of the TORTURED POETS era. Jesus Lord teams-up two very controversial artists but this is absolute classic Kanye production with the gospely ‘Jesus Lord’ looped sample repeating throughout the song. Kanye reminds you that he is human with a beautiful, reflective verse that touches on his mothers death and the cycle of poverty, violence and drugs in the poorest areas. And then Jay Electronica verse makes you say wow. It's one of the strongest I've heard in ages. Absolutely insane flow and delivery with very high-brow bars. I could do without the very long outro by Larry Hoover Jr. but I appreciate its power and importance to the message of the song.

47. Curaçao Group E CONCACAF (5/6) World Ranking: 82 Best Result: n/a Fixtures: Germany (14th June, 6PM) Ecuador (21st June, 1AM) Ivory Coast (25th June, 9PM) Curaçao became the smallest populated nation to ever qualify for the World Cup with their 185,000 residents being nearly half of Iceland's 350,000. They've managed this because they are a team that relies on their diaspora more than most. A lot of their squad are Dutch born but show great pride in representing their national team. Curaçao only became Curaçao in 2011 having been part of Netherlands Antilles from 1958-2010. They are only the sixth non-sovereign national team to qualify for the World Cup following the four teams from the UK and the Dutch East Indies in 1938. They had an unbeaten qualifying campaign that included some hard-thought results against Steve McClaren's Jamaica, as well as being one place ahead of Haiti in the World Rankings which is why they've landed higher here. The Manager: Fred Rutten It was the legendary Dick Advocat that qualified them for the tournament but he unfortunately had to step down in February due to the ill-health of his daughter. Stepping up to replace him is another Dutch manager in Fred Rutten. As a player, he spent his career with FC Twente before having two spells as their manager. His one solitary appearance for the Netherlands in 1988 is his only experience in international football before taking this job. Key Player: Tahith Chong (Sheffield United) I should probably say their captain and record-appearance maker, the ex-Premier League star Leandro Bacuna. And while he's going to be solid and dependable, he is 34 now and I think the wildcard in their side is actually their only home-born player, Tahith Chong. Once thought to be the next big thing at United, he made 16 senior appearances for the club and looked really good in his second spell in the Premier League with Luton a few years ago. He's a really talented player and if Curaçao are to shock the world, they're going to need a special spark and he's the most likely to provide it. Why they're actually going to win it: Again, it's a home confederation tournament for them and the excitement of the first tournament will be sky-high. But they also have someone to rally around and have the 'do it for Advocat' mentality.

48. Haiti Group C CONCACAF (6/6) World Ranking: 83 Best Result: Group Stage (1974) Fixtures: Scotland (14th June, 2AM) Brazil (20th June, 1:30AM) Morocco (24th June, 11PM) Haiti have qualified for their second ever World Cup and become the first Caribbean nation to reach multiple finals. They've been rewarded with a tough-looking Group C where their opening game against Scotland looks vital. Someone has to come last and the deciding factor between them and the team in 47th for me was that I found the other side's qualification campaign more impressive (on paper). Of course, Haiti's qualification is the most impressive of anyone seeming that they've been unable to play at home due to gang violence for over 5-years. The Manager: Sébastien Migné Hailing from France, Migné represented Leyton Orient in his playing career but his managerial career has a more distinctive African flavour having coached DR Congo Under 20s, Congo, Kenya and Equatorial Guinea as well as being the assistant for Cameroon. He's been at Haiti now for two years and has led them to a World Cup despite never setting foot in the country. Key Player: Wilson Isidor (Sunderland) Haiti aren't blessed with lots of talent at the top level of European football but they've worked wonders to convince Sunderland striker Isidor to change allegiance and commit to Haiti after representing France at under 17, 18, 19 and 20 level. He started his Premier League career on fire but has recently found himself benched by Brian Brobbey. He did find the back of the net in their last game, a 4-3 defeat by Aston Villa on Sunday and he will need to keep his shooting boots on this summer if Haiti are to do well. Why they're actually going to win it: It's a home confederation tournament for them? That's all I've got for this one 🤷
