  1. Or we could be uber generous and count his 2-second cameo as The Vanisher in 'Deadpool 2' and call that his biggest hit instead 😄
  2. 6. Zootropolis 2 - £36.1 million They're back with a twissst. After cracking the biggest case in Zootropolis’s history, rookie cops Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde find themselves on the twisting trail of a great mystery when Gary De’Snake arrives and turns the animal metropolis upside down. To crack the case, Judy and Nick must go undercover to unexpected new parts of town, where their growing partnership is tested like never before. Director: Jared Bush & Byron Howard Cast: Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, Ke Huy Quan Release Date: 28th November 2025 Distributor: Disney Certification: PG Genre: Kids Rotten Tomatoes: 91% IMDb: 7.4 Top 15 Chart Run: 2-1-1-2-4-4-5-6-5-5-5-6-4-7 (14 weeks) Opening Weekend: £5,984,739 (#2) The #1 film of the year in America missed the top-5 in the UK as 'Zootropolis 2' (or 'Zootopia 2' overseas) couldn't quite find the same audience. However, the first film only made £24 million in the UK so this was still a large improvement for the sequel. Disney won't be worried though because this was printing money worldwide. It's $556 million opening weekend (including $272 million in China alone) is the fourth-biggest weekend of any film ever. It stuck around well, still doing great business in 2026 so it's safe to say it was a UK hit, despite the slow start.
  3. 7. Jurassic World: Rebirth - £35.9 million A new era is born. Five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, covert operations expert Zora Bennett is contracted to lead a skilled team on a top-secret mission to secure genetic material from the world’s three most massive dinosaurs. When Zora’s operation intersects with a civilian family whose boating expedition was capsized, they all find themselves stranded on an island where they come face-to-face with a sinister, shocking discovery that’s been hidden …more. Director: Gareth Edwards Cast: Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey Release Date: 2nd July 2025 Distributor: Universal Certification: 12A Genre: Action Rotten Tomatoes: 50% IMDb: 5.8 Top 15 Chart Run: 1-2-2-4-4-6-11-8-13-14 (10 weeks) Opening Weekend: £12,493,783 (#1) The Jurassic World trilogy was massive but lost steam as it went on both critically and commercially. I remember being shocked when Scarlett Johansson signed-on for the soft-reboot/sequel attempt and her star-power was enough for this to just about do better than 'Dominion' (£35 million) in the UK but it couldn't help buck the trend worldwide as this became the first 'World' film to not hit £1 billion dollars ($869 million). I still haven't seen this because, although I'm a bit of a defender of the second film, 'Dominion' was so bad that it's really saw my interest in the franchise evaporate.
  4. 8. The Housemaid - £31.9 million Discover what lies behind closed doors. Trying to escape her past, Millie accepts a job as a live-in housemaid for the wealthy Nina and Andrew Winchester. But what begins as a dream job quickly unravels into something far more dangerous—a sexy, seductive game of secrets, scandal, and power. Director: Paul Feig Cast: Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried, Brandon Sklenar Release Date: 22nd December 2025 Distributor: Lionsgate Certification: 15 Genre: Thriller Rotten Tomatoes: 73% IMDb: 6.7 Top 15 Chart Run: 2-2-1-2-1-2-3-5-11 (9 weeks) Opening Weekend: £4,423,435 (#2) The EOY top 10 finisher than no-one saw coming, 'The Housemaid' snuck in its release in last December and more than took advantage of the extra boost Christmas and New Years holidays always provides. If you take out previews, this actually increased 26% in weekend two and didn't hit #1 until 2026. Sydney Sweeney has already turned a Christmas release/January smash hit in before with 'Anyone But You' (£11.6 million, EOY #23, 2023) in 2023/2024 but after a run of flops last year and extremely negative press, it was hard to see her outdoing that tenfold with this. Based upon a popular novel by Freida McFadden, this became director Paul Feig's biggest ever hit, overtaking the £23 million of 'Bridesmaids' in 2011.
  5. 9. Superman - £28.1 million Look up. Superman, a journalist in Metropolis, embarks on a journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent. Director: James Gunn Cast: David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult Release Date: 11th July 2025 Distributor: Warner Bros. Certification: 12A Genre: Superhero Rotten Tomatoes: 83% IMDb: 7.0 Top 15 Chart Run: 1-1-2-5-7-12-12-15 (8 weeks) Opening Weekend: £6,992,902 (#1) Despite Marvel's historically poor year, we do still get Superhero representation in the top 10 by James Gunn's new DC-Universe starter 'Superman'. This didn't get off to a particularly fast start (it opened just over half of what 'Man Of Steel' (£11,198,786, #1) did when it kicked off the DCEU in 2013 but good word-of-mouth saw it stick around well and end it's run less than £2 million off where 'Man Of Steel' ended. Other than that, 'Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice' (£36.5 million) and 'Suicide Squad' (£33.2 million), this beat every other film from the DCEU and they were released at peak-superhero fever so there's positive signs for Gunn attempts to reboot. It will fascinating to see what 'Supergirl' does this summer.
  6. 10. Mission: Impossible: The Final Reckoning - £26.4 million Our lives are the sum of our choices. Ethan Hunt and team continue their search for the terrifying AI known as the Entity — which has infiltrated intelligence networks all over the globe — with the world’s governments and a mysterious ghost from Hunt’s past on their trail. Joined by new allies and armed with the means to shut the Entity down for good, Hunt is in a race against time to prevent the world as we know it from changing forever. Director: Christopher McQuarrie Cast: Tom Cruise, Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames Release Date: 21st May 2025 Distributor: Paramount Certification: 12A Genre: Action Rotten Tomatoes: 80% IMDb: 7.1 Top 15 Chart Run: 2-2-2-3-5-7-8-9 (8 weeks) Opening Weekend: £8,614,076 (#2) Kicking off the top 10 is the highest-placed film that missed out on #1, 'Mission: Impossible: The Final Reckoning' that had to settle at #2 for three weeks behind another film still to come making the final film, the first in the franchise to miss out on top spot. It's debut weekend was the 7th biggest opening of 2025 and was the second-highest ever in the franchise (behind 'Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning: Part One' (£10,391,016, #1, 2023) so it wasn't all bad news. In fact, this also edged out the previous film to be the biggest hit in the UK overall. Despite this, it's crazy budget (between $300-400 million) meant that it was not a profitable film falling just short of $600 million worldwide.
  7. 11. The Fantastic Four: First Steps - £23.9 million Welcome to the family. Against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world, Marvel’s First Family is forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, while defending Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer. Director: Matt Shakman Cast: Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn Release Date: 24th July 2025 Distributor: Disney Certification: 12A Genre: Superhero Rotten Tomatoes: 86% IMDb: 6.8 Top 15 Chart Run: 1-1-3-5-5-9-8-13 (8 weeks) Opening Weekend: £8,144,594 (#1) It's official, 2025 was the first year since 2011 (aside from the COVID year of 2020) where no MCU-film is in amongst the top 10 films of the year. 2026 will now be pivotal for the Marvel's cinematic future with big-hitters in 'Spider-Man' and 'The Avengers' to come. It's been a long time since we've been able to say this but Marvel just couldn't complete with DC last year. However, it's still not all bad news for Marvel's first family as this has done nearly double the £12.4 million that both of the original two F4 films made. We're finally at the top 10 starting tomorrow. Any predictions?
  8. 12. How To Train Your Dragon - £23.4 million The legend is real. On the rugged isle of Berk, where Vikings and dragons have been bitter enemies for generations, Hiccup stands apart, defying centuries of tradition when he befriends Toothless, a feared Night Fury dragon. Their unlikely bond reveals the true nature of dragons, challenging the very foundations of Viking society. Director: Dean DeBlois Cast: Mason Thames, Nico Parker, Gerard Butler Release Date: 9th June 2025 Distributor: Universal Certification: PG Genre: Kids Rotten Tomatoes: 77% IMDb: 7.7 Top 15 Chart Run: 1-2-3-3-4-6-9-12-14 (9 weeks) Opening Weekend: £8,145,189 (#1) Dean DeBlois made the odd decision of signing-on to remake this own film in live-action, only 15-years after the animation's release. But nostalgia for the series is obviously already alive as this comfortably-outgrossed the 2010 original (£17.4 million) and only ended a couple of million behind the the biggest film in the franchise "How To Train Your Dragon 2" (£25.5 million). Despite a stronger start than some of the recent Disney live action remakes, it ended up falling short of both "The Little Mermaid" (£27.6 million) and 'Mufasa: The Lion King' (£32.3 million). Disney has another one higher in this list too which shows they are still the kings of live-action remakes. Who will be Dreamwork's next attempt: 'Monsters vs. Aliens'?, 'Megamind'?, 'Shrek'???
  9. 13. F1 - £22.4 million Let's ride. Racing legend Sonny Hayes is coaxed out of retirement to lead a struggling Formula 1 team—and mentor a young hotshot driver—while chasing one more chance at glory. Director: Joseph Kosinski Cast: Brad Pitt, Damson Idris, Javier Bardem Release Date: 25th June 2025 Distributor: Warner Bros. Certification: 12A Genre: Sport Rotten Tomatoes: 82% IMDb: 7.6 Top 15 Chart Run: 1-2-3-3-5-8-8-14 (8 weeks) Opening Weekend: £7,071,647 (#1) Director writer producer trio Joseph Kosinski, Ehren Kruger and Jerry Bruckheimer follow-up on their monster success with 'Top Gun: Maverick' by working together again to create 'F1' which turned out to be Apple's first undeniable box-office smash. F1 have been trying to make railroads into the American market for a while and this might be their most-successful for the motorsport yet, earning $634 million worldwide and even bagging a Best Picture Oscar nom. This is Brad Pitt's biggest ever film worldwide and within his top-5 in the UK.
  10. 14. Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale - £18.4 million The time has come to say goodbye. When Mary finds herself at the center of a public scandal and the family faces financial trouble, the entire household grapples with the threat of social disgrace. The Crawleys must embrace change as the staff prepares for a new chapter with the next generation leading Downton Abbey into the future. Director: Simon Curtis Cast: Hugh Bonneville, Jim Carter, Michelle Dockery Release Date: 12th September 2025 Distributor: Universal Certification: PG Genre: Drama Rotten Tomatoes: 91% IMDb: 7.3 Top 15 Chart Run: 1-1-3-3-4-8 (6 weeks) Opening Weekend: £4,390,303 (#1) Opening the weekend after 'The Conjuring: Last Rites' and, like that film, showing how good marketing it is to sell the film as a final chapter, 'Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale' increased on the second film 'Downton Abbey: A New Era' (£15.1 million, 2022). It was 15-years since the show debuted when this series closer released which isn't bad going for a period drama that always had a reputation for skewing older audience-wise. With $100 million banked worldwide, this was a very respectable end for the long-running, world-dominating British drama.
  11. 15. The Conjuring: Last Rites - £18.3 million The case that ended it all. Paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren take on one last terrifying case involving mysterious entities they must confront. Director: Michael Chaves Cast: Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga, Mia Tomlinson Release Date: 5th September 2025 Distributor: Warner Bros. Certification: 15 Genre: Horror Rotten Tomatoes: 57% IMDb: 6.2 Top 15 Chart Run: 1-3-2-4-5-6-12 (7 weeks) Opening Weekend: £6,777,552 (#1) It's somehow hard to believe that this will actually be the final 'Conjuring' movie like it was advertised. The two previous movies had underperformed compared to the earlier films ("The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It" in 2021 and 'The Nun II' in 2023 both opened to less than half of the earlier films in their respective series) but this smashed it out the park, having the best opening weekend in the franchise and only taking two weeks to overtake 'The Nun' to be the biggest overall film. This had the biggest opening weekend of any film ever worldwide, knocking 'It' off the top spot after 8-years.

  15. 16. Captain America: Brave New World - £18 million The future favours the brave. After meeting with newly elected U.S. President Thaddeus Ross, Sam finds himself in the middle of an international incident. He must discover the reason behind a nefarious global plot before the true mastermind has the entire world seeing red. Director: Julius Onah Cast: Anthony Mackie, Harrison Ford, Danny Ramirez Release Date: 14th February 2025 Distributor: Disney Certification: 12A Genre: Superhero Rotten Tomatoes: 46% IMDb: 5.6 Top 15 Chart Run: 2-2-2-4-5-10 (6 weeks) Opening Weekend: £6,404,345 (#2) We have our second MCU-film of the section and this became only the 2nd out of 37 MCU films to miss the #1 spot. The other being 'Captain America: The First Avenger' in 2011. The only positive news for Mackie's future as the character is that opened higher than the first two Chris Evans Captain America films, although it only beat the first film's final total. $415 million grossed against $180 million means it probably made some money but probably not enough for Sam Wilson to be the face of the MCU going forward.
  16. 17. Sinners - £16.7 million Dance with the devil. Trying to leave their troubled lives behind, twin brothers return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back. Director: Ryan Coogler Cast: Michael B. Jordan, Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton Release Date: 18th April 2025 Distributor: Warner Bros. Certification: 15 Genre: Horror Rotten Tomatoes: 97% IMDb: 7.5 Top 15 Chart Run: 2-2-2-2-3-6-10-15-x-12-15-14 (11 weeks) Opening Weekend: £2,424,954 (#2) The most nominated film of all-time at the Oscars, 'Sinners' climbed back above 'Thunderbolts*' after a well-timed awards season re-release. The word of mouth for this film was insane with it only dropping 1% in its second week and missing the top spot by less than £100k. It was so unlucky to spend four weeks at #2 behind two major releases ('A Minecraft Movie' and 'Thunderbolts*'). The only films that have performed this for both director Ryan Coogler and star Michael B. Jordan are the 'Black Panther' films. I know its very reductive to focus on Hailee Steinfeld out of everything in this movie, but my god I loved her in this.
  17. 18. Thunderbolts* - £16.1 million Careful who you assemble. After finding themselves ensnared in a death trap, seven disillusioned castoffs must embark on a dangerous mission that will force them to confront the darkest corners of their pasts. Director: Jake Schreier Cast: Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Lewis Pullman Release Date: 1st May 2025 Distributor: Disney Certification: 12A Genre: Superhero Rotten Tomatoes: 88% IMDb: 7.1 Top 15 Chart Run: 1-1-2-5-9 (5 weeks) Opening Weekend: £5,979,242 (#1) Marvel's attempt at a Suicide Squad, despite earning the best reviews of the franchise for quite a while, couldn't buck the underperforming trend only making about $380 million worldwide. Director Jake Schrieier returned to film after a 10-year break where he made his name on prestige TV (as well as directing one of my favourite music videos, 'Want You Back' by HAIM). Despite the underperformance, Marvel were still impressed enough to hire him to direct their upcoming X-Men film.
  18. 19. Marty Supreme - £16.1 million Dream big. Marty Mauser, a young man with a dream no one respects, goes to hell and back in pursuit of greatness. Director: Josh Safdie Cast: Timothée Chalamet, Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A'zion Release Date: 26th December 2025 Distributor: Entertainment Film Certification: 15 Genre: Drama Rotten Tomatoes: 93% IMDb: 7.7 Top 15 Chart Run: 5-3-4-5-6-7-7-12 (8 weeks) Opening Weekend: £1,388,196 (#5) If anyone says that they always knew that 'Marty Supreme' was going to be amongst the top 20 films of the year and outgross numerous blockbusters, then you're a liar. It had a high budget ($70 million) but has made $180 million worldwide so made a handsome profit. This opened in a fairy small amount of cinemas (having the best per-theatre average for any film released in 100-250 cinemas since '12 Years A Slave' in 2014) but exploded in weekend two as it opened wider having a 98% increase in business. It had a non-traditional marketing campaign (odd TikToks, a clothing range) and it proved to be a great strategy. Even with this huge success, it was only the fourth biggest 'Best Picture' nominee of this award season (with two of them still to come in this list and one in the 2026 list).
  19. 20. 28 Years Later - £15.6 million Time didn't heal anything. Twenty-eight years after the Rage virus outbreak, a heavily-defended island survives connected to the mainland by a single causeway. When one of the group leaves the island into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well. Director: Danny Boyle Cast: Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jack O'Connell Release Date: 20th June 2025 Distributor: Sony Certification: 15 Genre: Horror Rotten Tomatoes: 88% IMDb: 6.6 Top 15 Chart Run: 1-2-4-5-7-10-14 (7 weeks) Opening Weekend: £4,780,374 (#1) '28 Years Later' didn't quite take 28-years to hit cinemas, releasing only 18-years after '28 Weeks Later' in 2007. There were questions whether this would do well, especially with the budget upped to $60 million but this ended up doing more than what the original two films did combined in their first releases ('28 Days Later' - £6.3 million, '28 Weeks Later - £5.4 million). It ended up being Danny Boyle's third-biggest film and not landing too far behind 'T2 Trainspotting' (£17 million). This was the planned opener to a new trilogy of films and it looked positive but we'll have to see if the underperformance of this year's 'The Bone Temple' will make them rethink. 2025 was a pretty solid year at the box office, exemplified by the fact that you needed to earn £15.6 million to reach the top 20 this year versus £13.2 million ('Wish') in 2023 and £13.8 million ('The Wild Robot') in 2024.
  20. 21. The Bad Guys 2 - £14.6 million Back in badness. The now-reformed Bad Guys are trying (very, very hard) to be good, but instead find themselves hijacked into a high-stakes, globe-trotting heist, masterminded by a new team of criminals they never saw coming: The Bad Girls. Director: Pierre Perifel Cast: Sam Rockwell, Marc Maron, Awkwafina Release Date: 25th July 2025 Distributor: Universal Certification: PG Genre: Kids Rotten Tomatoes: 87% IMDb: 7.0 Top 15 Chart Run: 3-3-5-6-4-4-5-6-7-10-9-9-13 (13 weeks) Opening Weekend: £1,628,702 (#3) The film that was the first to eventually stop 'Dog Man' being the biggest animated film of the year also came from Universal and was one that just seemed to still around forever. The first 'The Bad Guys' film did something similar opening to £2,279,074 (#3, 2022) and closing with £13.5 million after 12 weeks in the top 10. This film opened pretty much exactly the same, spent the same 12 week run in the top 10 (opening in July and dropping out in October) but ended up finding an extra £1.1 million during that time. Earning this much and only peaking at #3 is insane! Very unfortunate to just miss out on the top 20.
  21. 22. Dog Man - £13.8 million Part dog. Part man. All hero. When a faithful police dog and his human police officer owner are injured together on the job, a hare-brained but life-saving surgery fuses the two of them together and Dog Man is born. Dog Man is sworn to protect and serve—and fetch, sit and roll over. As Dog Man embraces his new identity and strives to impress his Chief, he must stop the pretty evil plots of feline supervillain Petey the Cat. Director: Peter Hastings Cast: Pete Davidson, Isla Fisher, Lil Rel Howery Release Date: 7th February 2025 Distributor: Universal Certification: U Genre: Kids Rotten Tomatoes: 82% IMDb: 6.3 Top 15 Chart Run: 1-3-3-3-5-6-9-15 (8 weeks) Opening Weekend: £3,252,537 (#1) Another Universal film and one's who's premise also could have been a horror film in other hands, 'Dog Man' was released in February and managed to hold as the biggest kids animation film for most of the year before eventually ending third. Based on Dav Pilkey's graphic-novels, this is a spin-off to his 'Captain Underpants' series and managed to become a bigger hit than 'Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie' (£8.4 million, 2017). Making $145 million against a $40 million budget, this was a monster success and I bet nearly everyone here forgot it was even released.
  22. 23. Nosferatu - £12.9 million Succumb to the darkness. A gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake. Director: Robert Eggers Cast: Lily-Rose Depp, Nicholas Hoult, Bill Skarsgård Release Date: 1st January 2025 Distributor: Universal Certification: 15 Genre: Horror Rotten Tomatoes: 85% IMDb: 7.1 Top 15 Chart Run: 1-2-4-6-10 (5 weeks) Opening Weekend: £5,246,910 (#1) The first smash-hit of 2025 and still one of the most surprising, 'Nosferatu' is a modern retelling of the 1922 German film which itself was a rip-off of 'Dracula' after they couldn't get the rights to the character. It's crazy how much of an 'auteur' genre horror has become recently with Robert Eggers building his reputation on highbrow indie hits that grew in popularity with each release: 'The Vvitch' (£1.2 million, 2016), 'The Lighthouse' (£1.4 million, 2020) and 'The Northman' (£4.7 million, 2022). His films have always felt a bit niche so giving him $50 million to remake a 100 year+ film felt like a risk to me but this smashed all expectations and made $182 million worldwide. This outgrossed all of his other films final totals in its opening weekend.
  23. 24. A Complete Unknown - £12.2 million The ballad of a true original. New York, early 1960s. Against the backdrop of a vibrant music scene and tumultuous cultural upheaval, an enigmatic 19-year-old from Minnesota arrives in the West Village with his guitar and revolutionary talent, destined to change the course of American music. Director: James Mangold Cast: Timothée Chalamet, Edward Norton, Elle Fanning Release Date: 17th January 2025 Distributor: Disney Certification: 15 Genre: Biopic Rotten Tomatoes: 82% IMDb: 7.3 Top 15 Chart Run: 1-1-1-2-6-9-11-14 (8 weeks) Opening Weekend: £2,616,302 (#1) James Mangold returned to music-biopics after 'Walk The Line' (£10.4 million) was his mainstream breakthrough in 2006 with Bob Dylan story 'A Complete Unknown. Timothée Chalamet joined Cate Blanchett in earning an Oscar nomination for playing Bob Dylan after she did it in 'I'm Not There' (2007). It fell agonisingly just short of 'Back To Black' (£12.3 million, EOY #24, 2024) in terms of recent music biopics, although both well trail 'Bob Marley: One Love' (£17.2 million, EOY #15, 2024).
  24. 25. Weapons - £11.8 million Last night at 2:17 AM every child from Mrs. Gandy's class woke up got out of bed went downstairs opened the front door walked into the dark ...And never came back. When all but one child from the same class mysteriously vanish on the same night at exactly the same time, a community is left questioning who or what is behind their disappearance. Director: Zach Cregger Cast: Julia Garner, Josh Brolin, Alden Ehrenreich Release Date: 8th August 2025 Distributor: Warner Bros. Certification: 18 Genre: Horror Rotten Tomatoes: 93% IMDb: 7.4 Top 15 Chart Run: 1-1-1-3-3-9-15 (7 weeks) Opening Weekend: £2,818,535 (#1) 2025 was Warner Bros. year, they released eight films that reached #1 in the UK Box office, four of which are still to come (plus another film that missed #1) and they released the biggest 18-certificate film of the year in 'Weapons'. This compares favourably to the preview years where 'Scream VI (£7.7 million, EOY #34, 2023) and 'Poor Things' (£7.6 million, EOY #36, 2024) were the top performers. Comedians-turned-horror director is now a well-trodden path with Jordan Peele ('Get Out', 'Us', 'Nope') and Danny and Michael Philippou ('Talk To Me', 'Bring Her Back') following the same path a Zach Cregger who rose to fame as a member of sketch-group 'The Whitest Kids U' Know'. In terms of a word-of-mouth, well-marketed horror flick, 'Longlegs' feels like the obvious comparison and this outperformed that, ending up with £8.1 million (EOY #35, 2024). This is also the rare-Oscar winning horror film with Amy Madigan winning Best Supporting Actress, 40 years after her only previous nomination for the aptly-titled 'Twice In A Lifetime'.

(NE) Bhooth Bangla - £187,172 Weeks: 1 (£221,250) Falling out: Hoppers (6 weeks) BTS World tour ‘ARIRANG’ in Goyang: Live Viewing (1 week) You, Me & Tuscany (1 week) Undertone (1 week) California Schemin' (1 week) The Stranger (1 week) Last week saw five new entries and five holdovers. This week goes a step further and four of those holdovers remain while we get six new entries. But it is the same top 3 for a third week in a row which means that ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ still leads the pack after a 54% drop puts it at £33 million. It’s now falling further off the pace of the original (£41,605,147 at this stage) and even further behind last year’s ‘A Minecraft Movie’ (£45,467,916 at this stage). I guess that it’ll just have to settle as being the third biggest video-game adaptation of all time. ‘Project Hail Mary’ is pushing it close after a 33% drop allows it to gain a fifth-week in the top-2. With £30 million in the bank, it has already made enough that it would have ranked as #9 out of 2025 releases and is showing no signs of slowing down yet. ‘The Drama’ makes it three weeks at #3 with another great -32% hold. It’s already outgrossed ‘Challengers’ and ‘Mickey 17’ from the lead two’s recent films and should comfortably pass £10 million within the next couple of weeks. Not many films that miss #1 or #2 go on to achieve this. The only other holder this week is ‘The Magic Faraway Tree’ which drops 49% to land at #6 and ends the weekend having earned about £450k less in total than ‘Hoppers’ which itself drops to #11. The highest new entry this week is ‘Lee Cronin’s The Mummy’ (£970,220, #4). Lee Cronin is the Irish director behind gnarly horror hits ‘The Hole In The Ground’ (£96,404, #17, 2019) and ‘Evil Dead Rise’ (£1,477,840, #2, 2023). As you might have guessed, this is a return to the franchise’s horror roots and is presumably why the director’s name is added to the title, to differentiate it from the action-adventure series of the same name. I wonder how many people went to see this thinking it was the upcoming Brendan Frasier/Rachel Weisz sequel expected in 2028. This represents the third biggest horror release of the year, just edging out ‘Iron Lung’ (£948,731, #4). Completing the top 5 is the re-release of the classic anime, 1988’s ‘Akira’ (£884,729, #5). This was first released in the UK in 1991 where it grossed about £1 million after debuting at #3 with £439,345 and was also re-released in 2020 (shortly after the first lockdown) where it reached #3 again with £201,124. Despite not hitting the same heights, this does mark its most successful weekend in UK cinemas. Opening at #7 is ‘Time Hoppers: The Silk Road’ (£219,142). A Canadian animation aimed at the Muslim market; there doesn’t seem to be a lot of information about this one online. It appears to be a time-travelling film where the superhero children meet a range of historical Muslim scientists during their trials. Opening just behind is ‘BTS World tour ‘ARIRANG’ in Japan: Live Viewing’ (£203,738, #8). The second concert release is two weeks, this opens about £130k under what last week’s one did. Opening at #9 and #10 are two releases that opened midweek and would climb up to #7 and #8 if you included their midweek grosses. ‘All My Sons: NT Live 2026’ (£196,211, £597,806 in total, #9) is the second NT Live release to make the top 10 this year after the re-release of ‘The Audience: NT Live’ (£176,994) made #8 in March. Bryan Cranston and Marianne Jean-Baptiste star in this one. ‘Bhooth Bangla’ (£187,171, £221,250 in total) opens at #10 (£187,172, £221,250 in total) and is an Indian horror-comedy who’s title translated as ‘Haunted Mansion’. There is one further new entry in the #11-15 section: ‘Glenrothan’ (#12). Next week sees the openings of ‘Michael’, ‘Mother Mary’, ‘Exit 8’, ‘Hitpig!’, ‘Rose Of Nevada’, ‘Surviving Earth’, ‘The North’, ‘Ultras’ and ‘Primavera’. We also see a re-release of ‘Fight Club’. Can any of them top the charts?
