43. Smurfs - £5.8 million Adventure comes out of the blue. When Papa Smurf is mysteriously taken by evil wizards, Razamel and Gargamel, Smurfette leads the Smurfs on a mission into the real world to save him. With the help of new friends, the Smurfs must discover what defines their destiny to save the universe. Director: Chris Miller Cast: Rihanna, James Corden, Nick Offerman Release Date: 18th July 2025 Distributor: Paramount Certification: U Genre: Kids Rotten Tomatoes: 21% IMDb: 4.3 Top 15 Chart Run: 4-7-9-11-15-x-15 (6 weeks) Opening Weekend: £1,213,260 (#4) I know this was hardly a break-out hit or anything but the fact that this didn't bomb makes it one of the biggest surprises of the last year for me. The promotion for this was awful and seemed to just consist of 'Rihanna's in this' (the fact that 'RIHANNA IS SMURFETTE' is in the same-sized text as the title on the poster is hilarious). I really thought that there was no audience left for the Smurfs but this has ended up grossing the exact same amount as their last effort (Smurfs: The Lost Village, £5.8 million, 2017) and doubled it's budget worldwide meaning that it was probably a profitable release. I will never doubt them again.

44. Anaconda - £5.7 million It's the movie they're dying to remake. A group of friends facing mid-life crises head to the rainforest with the intention of remaking their favorite movie from their youth, only to find themselves in a fight for their lives against natural disasters, giant snakes and violent criminals. Director: Tom Gormican Cast: Paul Rudd, Jack Black, Steve Zahn Release Date: 26th December 2025 Distributor: Sony Certification: 12A Genre: Comedy Rotten Tomatoes: 47% IMDb: 5.6 Top 15 Chart Run: 6-6-7-10 (4 weeks) Opening Weekend: £1,274,699 (#6) Taking advantage of the Christmas holidays that always seem to help films leg out, 'Anaconda' has outgrossed multiple #1 hits from last year despite never even making the weekly top 5. It feels mad that this ended up beating 'Predator: Badlands'. A meta-reboot of the cult-classic 1997 JLo horror-action film, this sees comedy royalty Paul Rudd and Jack Black star as filmmakers who try to reboot the original film but end up facing a real Anaconda. The original film didn't even make £2 million (without adjusting for inflation) so this was a nice little, under-the-radar hit for Sony.

45. Karate Kid: Legends - £5.5 million When masters unite, a new legacy begins. After a family tragedy, kung fu prodigy Li Fong is uprooted from his home in Beijing and forced to move to New York City with his mother. When a new friend needs his help, Li enters a karate competition – but his skills alone aren’t enough. Li’s kung fu teacher Mr. Han enlists original Karate Kid Daniel LaRusso for help, and Li learns a new way to fight, merging their two styles into one for the ultimate martial arts showdown. Director: Jonathan Entwistle Cast: Ben Wang, Jackie Chan, Ralph Macchio Release Date: 30th May 2025 Distributor: Sony Certification: 12A Genre: Drama Rotten Tomatoes: 57% IMDb: 6.3 Top 15 Chart Run: 3-5-6-9-11-15 (6 weeks) Opening Weekend: £2,592,601 (#3) Just like how the success of 'Prey' had meant that there was renewed hope going into 'Predator: Badlands', the success of Netflix phenomenon 'Cobra Kai' had meant that there was a lot of hype going into 'Karate Kid: Legends'. Not only bringing back Ralph Macchio from that series and the original film, this also incorporates the 2010 reboot with Jackie Chan reprising his role. So Sony must have been underwhelmed with this earning less than half of the £12.4 million that the 2010 film made. This still banked $117 million worldwide though and with a smartly modest budget ($45 million), it would still firmly ended up in the green. It was just that it felt like there was potential for so much more.

(NE) The Stranger - £131,879 Weeks: 1 (£131,879) Falling out: Fuze (1 week) Dhurandhar: The Revenge (3 weeks) Vaazha II: Biopic Of A Billion Bros (1 week) Reminders Of Him (4 weeks) Ready Or Not 2: Here I Come (3 weeks) In an odd weekend where the top-5 are all non-movers and the bottom-5 are all new entries, ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ earns a second weekend atop the chart after a 63% drop (42% without previews) seeing it add another £5.5 million. This is enough for it to already be the biggest release of the year so far, a title it only earned yesterday (see below for more on that). With £28 million bagged so far, it’s way off the pace of the original film (£35,855,948 at this stage) and is even behind last-years ‘A Minecraft Movie’ (£31,056,475 after two weekends). But these are the two biggest video-game adaptations of all-time so they would have always been a stretch to match. In terms of other video-game films, this has already passed the total gross of ‘Sonic The Hedgehog 2’ (£27 million) and ‘Sonic The Hedgehog 3’ (£26.4 million) which was a EOY top 10 film in 2024. But for one brief day, the biggest film of the year was ‘Project Hail Mary’ that drops just 29% in week 4 to hit £27 million and hold at #2. On Saturday, it finally overtaken ‘Wuthering Heights’, just for Mario to do the same on the following day. It’s now breezed past the total of ‘The Martian’ and is looking to crack the £40 million mark by the end of its run. It’s already the top film ever produced by Amazon Studios. The highest new entry this week was an event cinema release, ‘BTS World tour ‘ARIRANG’ in Goyang: Live Viewing’ (£336,475, #6). This was a live-stream from BTS’s concert in South Korea on Saturday and only had showings on that day so being the top release is very impressive. Before their hiatus, they had two bigger releases: ‘Love Yourself In Seoul: BTS World Tour 2019 (£518,809, #10, 2019) and ‘BTS: Permission to Dance On Stage: Seoul: Live Viewing’ (£899,126, #3, 2022). This is the first half of a two-part series with another concert being live-streamed in cinemas from Tokyo this weekend. Opening just behind is ‘You, Me & Tuscany’ (£301,204, #7). This is a rom-com, as the title suggests, set in Italy. A romcom is only ever as good as its lead pair and this one sees Ariel herself, Halle Bailey star as an American tourist who has a love/hate relationship with a Tuscany-local played by Regé-Jean Page. It feels like non-Coleen Hoover adapted rom-coms have been a rarity on the big screen and relegated to streaming releases so I’m happy to see this do ok. The podcast horror ‘Undertone’ opens at #8 with £271,342 (£234k without previews). This was picked up by A24 in the US and has been a huge hit compared to its budget with $20 million bagged and a slight $500k budget. I’ve heard great things about the sound-design in this film with comparisons to ‘The Blair Witch Project’. So, if you’re interested in this one, it sounds like one that will benefit hugely from being seen (or heard) in cinemas. James McAcoy’s first directorial role has given us ‘California Schemin’ (£223,213, £178k without previews, #9). The film tells the real-life tale of two Scottish wannabe-rappers (Silibil N' Brains) who pretended to be from America in order to earn a record contract at Sony. In terms of recent British actor-turned-director debuts, it has done better than Harris Dickinson’s ‘Urchin’ (£131,115, #13, 2025). The final new entry this week is ‘The Stranger’ (£131,879, £81k without previews, #10). This is a French drama and is an adaptation of the 1942 novel of the same name about an apathetic man who commits a murder and acts unbothered in his trial. The best hold this weekend comes from ‘The Drama’ that loses just 18% in week 2. Already above £5 million, this is close to overtaking ‘Challengers’ (£6.5 million) which was already a great hit for Zendaya. Such good word-of-mouth for this one, it will be interesting to see where it ends up. £10 million is a gimme at the moment. ‘Hoppers’ holds at #5 with a 26% drop but it looks like it’s the loser of the crowded market for kids films currently as ‘The Magic Faraway Tree’ holds above it at #4 with a 22% drop. ‘Tree’ is now less than £2 million away from overtaking ‘Hoppers’ which looks inevitable now. It has already passed last year’s ‘Snow White’ (£11.6 million) There are two further new entries in the #11-15 section: ‘Father Mother Sister Brother’ (#12) and ‘LIK: Love Insurance Kompany’ (#14). Next week sees the openings of ‘Lee Cronin’s The Mummy’, ‘Kiss Of The Spider-Woman’, ‘Glenrothan’, ‘BTS World tour ‘ARIRANG’ in Japan: Live Viewing’, ‘Rebuilding’, ‘Blades Of The Guardians: Wind Rises In The Desert’, ‘Time Hoppers: The Silk Road’, ‘Kinaesthesia’, ‘The Blue Trail’, ‘Sunshine Women’s Choir’ and ‘Colours Of Time’. We also see re-releases of ‘Akira’ and ‘Bridget Jones’s Diary’. Can any of them top the charts?

46. Predator: Badlands - £5.5 million First hunt. Last chance. Cast out from his clan, a young Predator finds an unlikely ally in a damaged android and embarks on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary. Director: Dan Trachtenberg Cast: Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi, Elle Fanning, Ravi Narayan Release Date: 7th November 2025 Distributor: Disney Certification: 12A Genre: Sci-Fi Rotten Tomatoes: 86% IMDb: 7.2 Top 15 Chart Run: 1-3-5-9 (4 weeks) Opening Weekend: £2,376,780 (#1) At least we end today's section with a film that didn't completely bomb, although £184 million against a $105 million budget was still underwhelming. This had the best 3-day opening of any film in the Predator franchise (2018's 'The Predator' opened slightly higher officially due to previews) but couldn't break-out despite emphatic word of mouth finishing behind the £5.8 million final gross of 'Predators'. I do think this is probably doing great numbers on Disney+ though alongside the other two films Trachtenberg has made in the franchise.

47. Tron: Ares - £4.9 million No going back. A highly sophisticated Program called Ares is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings. Director: Joachim Rønning Cast: Jared Leto, Greta Lee, Evan Peters Release Date: 10th October 2025 Distributor: Disney Certification: 12A Genre: Sci-Fi Rotten Tomatoes: 53% IMDb: 6.2 Top 15 Chart Run: 1-4-9-12 (4 weeks) Opening Weekend: £1,790,652 (#1) We're in a bit of a floppy part of this countdown with Disney's 'Tron: Ares' probably being the final nail in that franchise's coffin. A reported $200 million budget for a third-film in a series that has never really made much money felt like an insane decision and so it proved with only $140 million grossed worldwide. How does Jared Leto keep getting cast in films like this? He's felt like box-office poison for quite a while ('Morbius', 'Haunted Mansion'). It will be interesting to see if the upcoming 'Masters Of The Universe' can survive his presence.

48. The Running Man - £4.8 million Hunt him down. Desperate to save his sick daughter, working-class Ben Richards is convinced by The Running Man’s charming but ruthless producer to enter the deadly competition game as a last resort. But Ben’s defiance, instincts, and grit turn him into an unexpected fan favorite — and a threat to the entire system. As ratings skyrocket, so does the danger, and Ben must outwit not just the Hunters, but a nation addicted to watching him fall. Director: Edgar Wright Cast: Glen Powell, William H. Macy, Lee Pace Release Date: 12th November 2025 Distributor: Paramount Certification: 15 Genre: Action Rotten Tomatoes: 61% IMDb: 6.4 Top 15 Chart Run: 2-3-6-13 (4 weeks) Opening Weekend: £2,383,269 (#2) Despite only missing out on being a #1 film by less than £750, 'The Running Man' did not have a long stint in cinemas, spending 4 weeks in the top 15 and only just doubling its opening weekend. It is still the highest grossing Stephen King adaptation since the 'IT' films but its a hollow victory as this could only make $69 million worldwide against a $110 million budget. The story was famously adapted in 1987 starring Arnold Schwarzenegger but this version promised to stick closer to the novel. Edgar Wright is usually one of the most distinctive directors working today and, I haven't seen this yet, but I've heard that it doesn't have any of the Wright-charm and feels like it could have been directed by anyone which is really disappointing to hear.

49. Elio - £4.7 million They asked for our leader. They got... him. Elio, a space fanatic with an active imagination, finds himself on a cosmic misadventure where he must form new bonds with eccentric alien lifeforms, navigate a crisis of intergalactic proportions and somehow discover who he is truly meant to be. Director: Madeline Sharafian, Domee Shi & Adrian Molina Cast: Yonas Kibreab, Zoe Saldaña, Remy Edgerly Release Date: 20th June 2025 Distributor: Disney Certification: PG Genre: Kids Rotten Tomatoes: 83% IMDb: 6.6 Top 15 Chart Run: 3-4-5-6-8-12-15 (7 weeks) Opening Weekend: £971,169 (#3) The highest-placed film that debuted with less than £1 million, this only had the 68th best debut of 2025 but manages to end in the top half after holding in the summer. This was an absolute disaster for Pixar, both behind the scenes (where writer/director Remy Edgerly left production half-way through after Disney demanded that an LGBT storyline was cut) and in cinemas where it had the worst (full) opening weekend for a Pixar film (it beat the Ireland and Scotland only debut of 'Brave' but that film then had a much higher weekend when it opened in England and Wales), opening well-less than half of 'Cars 3' (£2,625,000, #4, 2017). If it wasn't for 'Hoppers' doing well this year, I think panic stations would be going off at Pixar HQ. I remember in 2023, everyone thought that Elemental's £19.7 million was disappointing.

50. The Long Walk - £4.7 million The task is simple: walk or die. In a dystopian 1970s America, fifty teenage boys take part in a deadly annual walking contest, forced to maintain a minimum pace or be executed, until only one survivor remains. Director: Francis Lawrence Cast: Cooper Hoffman, David Jonsson, Garrett Wareing Release Date: 12th September 2025 Distributor: Lionsgate Certification: 15 Genre: Horror Rotten Tomatoes: 88% IMDb: 6.7 Top 15 Chart Run: 4-4-5-7-10 (5 weeks) Opening Weekend: £1,156,220 (#4) The second Stephen King adaptation, this was long thought unfilmable after many attempt to adapt it ended up falling through, starting with George A. Romeo in 1988. Francis Lawrence ('I Am Legend', 'The Hunger Games') was the man to finally make it happen and he did so successfully with favourable reviews and a $63 million gross against a $20 million budget. If it wasn't for the other one still to come, this would have been the biggest King adaptation since the two 'IT' films. I've heard this really nails the bleak, nihilistic tone of the novel.

After his life is turned upside down when his wife is killed in a London terrorist attack, a brilliant but introverted CIA decoder takes matters into his own hands when his supervisors refuse to take action. Director: James Hawes Cast: Rami Malek, Laurence Fishburne, Rachel Brosnahan Release Date: 11th April 2025 Distributor: Disney Certification: 12A Genre: Thriller Rotten Tomatoes: 61% IMDb: 6.5 Top 15 Chart Run: 2-4-8-13-11 (5 weeks) Opening Weekend: £1,101,452 (#2) We conclude the first half of this countdown with this old-fashioned thriller from James Hawes ('One Life'). When I first heard about this, I was sure that this had already been released a few years ago but it turned out that I was thinking of 2021's 'The Little Things' that also stars Malek and had similar marketing. This is an adaptation of a 1981 novel that was also made into a film in the same year. This had flop written all over it in my eyes but ended up making $100 million worldwide on a $60 million budget so probably came close to breaking-even with all subsidiary streams considered. Now where halfway through, has there been any shocks so far? Anything you thought would be higher or anything you're surprised is still to appear?

52. Babygirl - £4.3 million Get exactly what you want. A high-powered CEO puts her career and family on the line when she begins a torrid affair with her much younger intern. Director: Halina Reijn Cast: Nicole Kidman, Harris Dickinson, Antonio Banderas Release Date: 10th January 2025 Distributor: Entertainment Film Certification: 18 Genre: Thriller Rotten Tomatoes: 76% IMDb: 5.8 Top 15 Chart Run: 5-6-9-13-15 (5 weeks) Opening Weekend: £1,091,180 (#5) It feels like the erotic thriller genre had disappeared from big screens but 'Babygirl' brought it back in a big way, opening above £1 million in January last year despite the restrictive 18-rating. It debuted at Venice in 2024 so I definitely feel like they wanted this to be an Awards contender which it ultimately fell short of doing. I remember this getting a lot of hype, especially for the milk scene, but it already feels a bit forgotten about now.

53. The Choral - £4.3 million They were divided by war. He united them in song. As World War I rages on, Dr. Henry Guthrie takes over a British choral society that’s lost most of its men to the army. The community soon discovers that the best response to the chaos of war is to make beautiful music together. Director: Nicholas Hytner Cast: Ralph Fiennes, Roger Allam, Mark Addy Release Date: 7th November 2025 Distributor: Sony Certification: 12A Genre: Drama Rotten Tomatoes: 67% IMDb: 6.4 Top 15 Chart Run: 2-6-6-13 (4 weeks) Opening Weekend: £917,177 (#2) Sir Nicholas Hytner made this first film in 15-years and teamed up with legendary playwright Alan Bennett, just as he did with his last film, 2015's 'The Lady In The Van' which was a huge hit, grossing £13.2 million in the UK. This didn't hit the same heights but still made a tidy £4.3 million. It's classic 'Sunday afternoon British drama' affair with Fiennes starring as a choirmaster who recruits from military hospitals during WWI.

54. Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere - £3.9 million Witness a true story of risking it all to fight for what you believe in. Bruce Springsteen, a young musician on the cusp of global superstardom, struggles to reconcile the pressures of success with the ghosts of his past. Director: Scoot Cooper Cast: Jeremy Allen White, Jeremy Strong, Paul Walter Houser Release Date: 24th October 2025 Distributor: Disney Certification: 12A Genre: Biopic Rotten Tomatoes: 61% IMDb: 6.6 Top 15 Chart Run: 1-4-6 (3 weeks) Opening Weekend: £1,306,627 (#1) The third #1 hit to drop-out and we haven't even reached the half way point of the countdown yet. Music biopics have been a consistent genre at the box office in recent years but this is definitely at the lower end only beating 'Kneecap' (£2.2 million, EOY #65, 2024) from recent years. I think Springsteen just isn't that flamboyant of a personality so a film about his life doesn't sound too exciting. We have another musician biopic also released by Disney to come that succeeded where this failed and picked up awards hype to become a decent sized hit.

55. Materialists - £3.9 million Some people just want more. A young, ambitious New York City matchmaker finds herself torn between the perfect match and her imperfect ex. Director: Celine Song Cast: Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans, Pedro Pascal Release Date: 13th August 2025 Distributor: Sony Certification: 15 Genre: Rom-Com Rotten Tomatoes: 77% IMDb: 6.2 Top 15 Chart Run: 2-3-11-12 (4 weeks) Opening Weekend: £1,287,221 (#2) Celine Song followed her indie-favourite 'Past Lives' with a more comedic take on relationships with this starry love-triangle that sees Dakota Johnson having to chose between Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal. This beat the £3.1 million gross of 'Past Lives' but fell just short of Johnson's infamous box-office superhero flop 'Madame Web' (£4.1 million, EOY #48, 2024). With a gross of over $100 million worldwide on a $20 million budget, Song is 2/2 on big hits and I imagine she will have a lot of takers ready to make her next project.

Little Mix picked up one final #1 before their hiatus with No. With Leigh and Perrie being pregnant during this era, Jade has having to do all of the heavy lifting in the videos. Superbloom was a deluxe track from 'Deeper Well' and the best song on the whole project. Kacey and Leon's voices compliment each other so well and I enjoy the faster pace from her. 10 Things I Hate About You is Leah's actual hit and you can hear why. It was perfect for TikTok. I heard this live on the day it entered the UK Top 100 (Good Friday 2022) as she was supporting for Madison Beer. Speaking of Madison, Dangerous has some very nice strings which stops it from being just another ballad. It's very Disney and I'm not just saying that because she sings the lyric "a tale as old as time". Mr Worldwide has become my summer holiday anthem in past years. Bas usually has the best flows from the pair but Pete kills this track. Sometimes you want something that just fun and this certainly fits the bill. Read your Mind is a rare climber in the list. Its so catchy and it lives rent free in my head. It's criminal that it was never a single. Midnigth Rain is the second-highest track from 'Midnights'. Fairly muted production but it creates a certain mood which the pitched vocals help amplify. Bookending this four with Madison, Sweet Relief is very much in the wheelhouse of the sound she has carved out for herself with its bassy-bounce and sultry delivery. Solid track but doesn't stand out amongst her oeuvre. because i love you is Halle's highest solo track. This was written by RAYE and you can certainly hear her influence, especially with her also adding backing vocals. The chorus is a guaranteed earworm and it feels like a (slower) proto-'WHERE IS MY HUSBAND'. Coming Of Age is the most unique sounding song in Maisie's discography. I remember being shocked on my first spin of the good witch with this being the second track. The pumping bassline at the start catches you off guard but the classic Maisie still shines with her typically witty lyrics. Villain brings us back to her debut album and was a slower burner for me before it eventually ended up as my 15th most played track of 2021. The change of viewpoint, looking at herself from her ex’s perspective, is a great concept. The disco sonics really suits Ari and Max and Ilya never miss when they produce for her. The fact that I may be hearing bye performed live in four months is too exciting. Speaking of disco, Satellite goes all in on the sounds and the intermittent strings are a nice touch. I thought Bebe singing about weed was going to sound too forced but her vocals in the chorus sold it to me. Why does it feel like snoop put in more effort for this random Bebe feature than he has on any of his own songs in the past 10 years? The best song on 'evermore' for me is willow. . It does such a good job of creating its folky, rustic, cozy atmosphere and has a strong melody throughout. It feels like winter in a song. Don't Break My Heart is so under-rated. I never hear anyone talk about it but it's my favourite Weeknd song of either of his albums this decade. It’s some of the best synth-work on the album, the falsetto is on point and the deeper vocals are iconic. I like how subtle the alien abduction imagery is in Down Bad compared to the bluntness of the f-bombs. That weird, UFO-y sound is so different and it’s hidden in the background so much that I didn’t even pick up on it in my first few listens.

56. The Brutalist - £3.8 million Welcome to America. When an innovative modern architect flees post-war Europe, he is given the opportunity to rebuild his legacy. Set during the dawn of the modern United States (in Pennsylvania), his wife joins him and their lives are forever changed by a demanding, wealthy patron. Director: Brady Corbet Cast: Adrien Brody, Felicity Jones, Guy Pearce Release Date: 24th January 2025 Distributor: Universal Certification: 18 Genre: Drama Rotten Tomatoes: 93% IMDb: 7.2 Top 15 Chart Run: 5-5-6-9-14-13 (6 weeks) Opening Weekend: £754,678 (#5) The second Oscar winner of the section, Brady Corbet's epic didn't get the memo of this being the short-film section, clocking in it 215 minutes with a built-in intermission. I enjoyed the pre-intermission half but found it a bit of a chore after that. The fact that a film this uncommercial can make 5x its budget worldwide shows that there's still life in cinemas yet.

57. Black Bag - £3.8 million It takes a spy to hunt a spy. When intelligence agent Kathryn Woodhouse is suspected of betraying the nation, her husband – also a legendary agent – faces the ultimate test of whether to be loyal to his marriage or his country. Director: Steven Soderbergh Cast: Cate Blanchett, Michael Fassbender, Marisa Abela Release Date: 14th March 2025 Distributor: Universal Certification: 15 Genre: Drama Rotten Tomatoes: 96% IMDb: 6.7 Top 15 Chart Run: 3-4-6-6 (4 weeks) Opening Weekend: £915,377 (#3) We must be in the 'black' section of the chart with 'Bag' following 'Phone 2'. Approximately Steven Soderbergh's 90th film of the past two years, this is a lean (another 90 minute-r) spy flick which focuses more on the intrigue than the action. Blanchett and Fassbender play well as a couple where you're never sure whether they are loyal to each other or not. It has some really tense sequences and I enjoyed it, but the rave reviews left me expecting more. There was a time where this would have been a huge hit thanks to the name-power alone but this underwhelmed with $44 million grossed against a $50 million budget.

58. Black Phone 2 - £3.8 million Dead is just a word. Four years after defeating The Grabber, Finney Blake is struggling with life after captivity. When his younger sister Gwen begins receiving calls in her dreams from the Black Phone and seeing disturbing visions of three boys being stalked at a winter camp, the siblings become determined to solve the mystery and confront a killer who has grown more powerful in death and more significant to them than either could imagine. Director: Scott Derrickson Cast: Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, Ethan Hawke Release Date: 17th October 2025 Distributor: Universal Certification: 18 Genre: Horror Rotten Tomatoes: 72% IMDb: 6.1 Top 15 Chart Run: 2-5-6-11 (4 weeks) Opening Weekend: £1,100,233 (#2) The fact that we've already had a sequel to the film Scott Derrickson made after dropping out of 'Doctor Strange 2' is making me feel like time is passing too fast. This opened slightly below the preview-inflated debut of the original (£1,384,344, #5, 2022) and didn't have the same legs, falling about £800k short of its final gross. Worldwide, the drop was even more pronounced when you consider the higher budget ($132 million against a $30 million budget verses $160 million against a $10 million budget). However, this was still a huge money-maker and I wouldn't bet against a third film. The once consistent Blumhouse needed a win like this, especially when you think about the disaster of 'M3GAN 2.0' earlier in the year.

59. A Real Pain - £3.6 million Join the family. Mismatched cousins David and Benji reunite for a tour through Poland to honour their beloved grandmother. The adventure takes a turn when the pair’s old tensions resurface against the backdrop of their family history. Director: Jesse Eisenberg Cast: Jesse Eisenberg, Kieran Culkin, Will Sharpe Release Date: 8th January 2025 Distributor: Disney Certification: 15 Genre: Comedy Rotten Tomatoes: 96% IMDb: 7.0 Top 15 Chart Run: 6-10-12-15-13 (5 weeks) Opening Weekend: £998,818 (#6) We go all the way back to January 2025 for this Oscar winning comedy/drama written, starring and directed by Jesse Eisenberg. Although it was co-star Culkin that stole all the headlines, sweeping the best supporting actor awards across the whole award season. A rare 90-minute film, it packs a lot into that runtime and was a huge success, grossing $25 million worldwide against a $3 million budget. Eisenberg is now a director to watch out for in the future.

60. Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party Of A Showgirl - £3.5 million The exclusive world premiere of the music video “The Fate of Ophelia”, along with behind-the-scenes footage from the music video shoot, brand new lyric videos, and Taylor Swift’s personal reflections on songs from her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl. Director: Taylor Swift Cast: Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, Fletcher Alliston Release Date: 3rd October 2025 Distributor: Piece of Magic Certification: 12A Genre: Documentary Rotten Tomatoes: 64% IMDb: 6.8 Top 15 Chart Run: 1 (1 week) Opening Weekend: £3,471,544 (#1) The second #1 film to drop out, this was a one-weekend-only release to celebrate Taylor Swift's studio album. Featuring the debut of the music video of lead single 'The Fate of Ophelia', lyric videos of each other song and additional information about each song by Taylor herself, this is far from a typical cinema release. In 2023, 'The Eras Tour' opened at #1 with £5,729,998 on its way to £12.2 million (EOY #22). There is still one more event cinema release to come.

Director: James Vanderbilt Cast: Russell Crowe, Rami Malek, Leo Woodall Release Date: 14th November 2025 Distributor: StudioCanal Certification: 15 Genre: Drama Rotten Tomatoes: 71% IMDb: 7.4 Top 15 Chart Run: 4-4-7-10-15 (5 weeks) Opening Weekend: £898,990 (#4) There was a time where seeing 'Sky Movies original' was the most-feared three words to appear on a poster but they've slowly started to release some well-received films of which 'Nuremberg' is one. This is about the trials that happened for key Nazi figures after the conclusion of WWII. Malek plays a psychiatrist who was tasked with determining whether they were mentally fit to face trial. Crowe earned strong reviews for his portrayal of Hermann Göring. Based on a budget of about $10 million, this has made $70 million worldwide so was a really successful release.

62. Ballerina - £3.3 million Vengeance has a new face. Taking place during the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, Eve Macarro begins her training in the assassin traditions of the Ruska Roma. Director: Len Wiseman Cast: Ana de Armas, Keanu Reaves, Ian McShane Release Date: 6th June 2025 Distributor: Lionsgate Certification: 15 Genre: Action Rotten Tomatoes: 75% IMDb: 6.8 Top 15 Chart Run: 3-5-8-14 (4 weeks) Opening Weekend: £1,418,816 (#3) The long-delayed first attempt to spin off from the John Wick franchise on the big screen finally hit cinemas last year where it largely underwhelmed. Sensing a disaster, Lionsgate highlighted Keanu is the marketing but it wasn't enough. The four main films in the Wick franchise all increased openings with each release, culminating with 'John Wick: Chapter 4' opening above £5 million and ending up at #14 in 2023's EOY chart (£17.6 million). 'Ballerina', on the other hand, ended up being the lowest opening since the original 'John Wick' (£539,602, #6, 2015) ten years prior.
