  1. 80. Companion - £2 million Find someone made just for you. During a weekend getaway at a secluded lakeside estate, a group of friends finds themselves entangled in a web of secrets, deception, and advanced technology. As tensions rise and loyalties are tested, they uncover unsettling truths about themselves and the world around them. Director: Drew Hancock Cast: Sophie Thatcher, Jack Quaid, Lukas Gage Release Date: 31st January 2025 Distributor: Warner Bros. Certification: 15 Genre: Horror Rotten Tomatoes: 93% IMDb: 6.9 Top 15 Chart Run: 3-9-12 (3 weeks) Opening Weekend: £739,553 (#3) The first movie I saw at the cinema in 2025 and quite possibly still the most fun I had throughout the rest of the year. While it happens pretty early and I think the marketing would make it difficult for you not to know but I imagine this would be even wilder if you didn't know where it was going. This feels like it should have been a massive star-making performance for Thatcher, she's outstanding in the role and she looks like the big screen was made for her. The last time I was as taken by seeing someone on the big screen for the first time was Anya Taylor-Joy in Split. Believe it or not, this was the first film Hancock had directed since... 'Fred 3: Camp Fred'.
  2. (122-174-238-301) The Game & Kanye West - Eazy (210-249-302) Maisie Peters - You’re Just A Boy (And I’m Kinda The Man) (186-197-251-303) Sabrina Carpenter - because i liked a boy (101-137-199-256-304) Olivia Rodrigo - jealousy, jealousy (245-305) Taylor Swift - Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me? (56-89-126-180-246-306) J Hus feat. Burna Boy - Play Play (68-97-135-184-247-307) JID & Lute feat. 6LACK - Still Dreamin (187-250-308) Jorja Smith - Little Things (142-196-253-309) Taylor Swift - Anti-Hero (43-95-134-192-254-310) Run The Jewels - walking in the snow - (186-248-311) Charli XCX - Speed Drive (46-86-132-189-252-312) Tion Wayne feat. dutchavelli & Stormzy - I Dunno (133-193-255-313) Ashe - Shower With My Clothes On (204-258-314) Sofía Reyes & Danna Paola feat. Kim Petras - tqum (152-205-264-315) JID & Kenny Mason - Dance Now (214-266-316) EARTHGANG - Die Today (50-93-141-203-265-317) The Weeknd - Save Your Tears (268-318) Camila Cabello feat. Eem Triplin - baby pink (NE) Stormzy - SORRY RACH! (x-145-212-273-320) Madison Beer - Emotional Bruises - (280-321) Ashe - I Wanna Love You (But I Don’t) (117-164-236-290-322) Kacey Musgraves - simple times (NE) Tate McRae - Miss possessive (191-262-324) Hailee Steinfeld - SunKissing (NE) Sabrina Carpenter - Busy Woman Three songs from 2025 make their debuts in this section, coming from Sabrina Carpenter, Tate McRae and Stormzy. I don't know what it is about SunKissing but the word I'd use to describe it is nostalgic. Not for any particular time, it just suits a reflective mood. simple times leans into the emotion more explicitly. It such a relaxing listen as well which makes the video all the more odd. The third song in a row with a similar vibe, I Wanna Love You (But I Don't) is another that feels like it should be the backing for a movie flashback montage. The powerful vocals in the chorus is what give it an extra oomph. I love the slightly melodramatic style of songwritting on Emotional Bruises. I was just on board with everything Madison was doing on that album. Imagine having a song as good as baby pink in your back pocket and only releasing it as a deluxe track??? The hyperpop elements work so much better here than on the Carti collab. I'd never heard of Eem before this but his verse is a cool addition. Have you ever had a song that became so overplayed that you forgot that you actually originally loved it? I think I'm finally at a point where I can begin to appreciate Save Your Tears again. The chorus of Die Today has been stuck in my head for three years straight now. Great video and the two of them really know how to make a vibey track that makes you feel good. Dance Now is a great example of how electric JID is on a mic. You never know what direction he's going to go in next. I liked the original fully-Spanish version of tqum but it was the Kim Petras remix that made it smash for me. Some of my favourite vocals from her too. Shower With My Clothes On is definitely the sort of track where the whole audience would have their phone lights on swaying away. The video is really effective at selling the message too. Everything just works so cohesively here. It's clear why I Dunno because such a big hit. The chorus is undeniably catchy (and very meme-able), dutch has a great voice for this type of track and Stormzy was at the peak of his powers. Charli's effort for the Barbie soundtrack, Speed Drive works well in the film for the car chase. Sampling 'Mickey' was certainly a choice but there's enough energy for it to work. walking in the snow has some of the hardest hitting lyrics of the decade. The verses are genuinely powerful, especially when you consider the context of the time it was released. And then they're able to contrast that with Gangsta Boo (RIP) having one of the funniest outros in any song for years. Anti-Hero feels like it was the true start of Taylor's dominance. I think it's genuinely improving with age for me. The infectious, garage-inspired track Little Things is Jorja's biggest hit this decade. The little run in the outro is gorgeous. The 6LACK chorus on Still Dreamin is one of my faves of recent times. The verses are so laidback which makes it such a smooth listen. I don't smoke but it feels like it would be the sort of song that would be perfect to blaze up to. J Hus and Burna Boy is a combo that just works. Play Play sees Hus just have some fun, throwing in as many gun metaphors as he can to describe his lady. JAE5's light, summery production (with added whistles) can't go unmentioned. Taylor has never been particularly known for her vocal ability but the strength she applies for the titular phrase on Who's Afraid of Little Old Me? is a huge highlight. It's a song that has really been boosted by its usage on the Eras Tour. jealousy, jealousy was a standout track from Olivia's debut album. The bridge has a really cool sound which she developed on some of the tracks from her sophomore. I am READY for the third album now. Roll on June! From an Olivia Rodrigo song to one that's largely about her, because i liked a boy was the moment where I went from a casual Sabrina fan to a proper, dedicated stan. One of her best ballad-y tracks. Speaking of Sabrina, 'The Good Witch' walked so 'Short n' Sweet' could run. I just adore Maisie's style of songwriting and her wit is on full display on You're Just A Boy (And I'm Kinda The Man). A lot can be said about modern day Kanye but one think I'll never tire of is his production style. He may not have actually produced this one but it's a clear aping of his trademark pitched-sample style and evokes the nostalgic feel. Especially with the Eazy-E flip. DJ Premier's scratches add a lot too. Kanye's verse caused controversy but it's also what makes the song work. You wouldn't actually notice if The Game wasn't on this track.
  3. 81. Roofman - £2 million Based on actual events. And terrible decisions. Levon Cade left behind a decorated military career in the black ops to live a simple life working construction. But when his boss’s daughter, who is like family to him, is taken by human traffickers, his search to bring her A former Army Ranger and struggling father turns to robbing McDonald’s restaurants by cutting holes in their roofs, earning him the nickname “Roofman.” After escaping prison, he secretly lives inside a Toys “R” Us for six months, surviving undetected while planning his next move. But when he falls for a divorced mom drawn to his undeniable charm, his double life begins to unravel, setting off a compelling and suspenseful game of cat and mouse as his past closes in. Director: Derek Cianfrance Cast: Channing Tatum, Kirsten Dunst, LaKeith Stanfield Release Date: 17th October 2025 Distributor: Paramount Certification: 15 Genre: Comedy Rotten Tomatoes: 87% IMDb: 6.9 Top 15 Chart Run: 6-10-15 (3 weeks) Opening Weekend: £679,368 (#6) A biopic with a difference, this is one of those 'you couldn't write it' sort of stories and is focused on Jeffrey Manchester who was arrested for robbing McDonalds and lived inside a Toys "R" Us after escaping. A comedy/romance/drama, this is one I was disappointed to miss in cinemas. I've heard that Tatum is fantastic in the role.
  4. 82. A Working Man - £1.9 million Human traffickers beware. Levon Cade left behind a decorated military career in the black ops to live a simple life working construction. But when his boss’s daughter, who is like family to him, is taken by human traffickers, his search to bring her home uncovers a world of corruption far greater than he ever could have imagined. Director: David Ayer Cast: Jason Statham, Jason Flemyng, Michael Peña Release Date: 28th March 2024 Distributor: Warner Bros. Certification: 15 Genre: Action Rotten Tomatoes: 47% IMDb: 5.7 Top 15 Chart Run: 3-5-10-15 (4 weeks) Opening Weekend: £658,134 (#3) Every Q1, we get a recycled Jason Statham action flick and they always seem to consistently find enough of the audience to make a nice little profit but are never thought about again. Seriously, could anyone still even name the one he released earlier this year? In fact, 2025's effort 'A Working Man' even kept the same director as the year before in Suicide Squad's David Ayer. Although this one was a case of diminishing returns as it only did half of 'The Beekeeper' (£3.8 million, EOY #51, 2024). The most interesting fact about this one was that it was co-written by Sylvester Stallone (and that it was a US Box Office #1 beating out 'Snow White').
  5. 83. The Smashing Machine - £1.9 million The unforgettable true story of a UFC legend In the late 1990s, up-and-coming mixed martial artist Mark Kerr aspires to become the greatest fighter in the world. However, he must also battle his opioid dependence and a volatile relationship with his girlfriend Dawn. Director: Benny Safdie Cast: Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt, Ryan Bader Release Date: 3rd October 2025 Distributor: Entertainment Certification: 15 Genre: Biopic Rotten Tomatoes: 71% IMDb: 6.3 Top 15 Chart Run: 4-5-14 (3 weeks) Opening Weekend: £863,078 (#4) Not a new Wallace & Gromit adventure but the vehicle for The Rock's attempt to go serious and try to bag an Oscar, 'The Smashing Machine' is a retelling of the 2002 documentary about UFC fighter Mark Kerr. After their break-up, the Safdie brothers both launched big bids to feature in awards season with this one being largely unsuccessful (it got one Oscar nom for Makeup and Hairstyling). Johnson did earn some respectability with good reviews but it was a huge box-office bomb, grossing $21 million worldwide against a $50 million budget. This year he has 'Moana' and 'Jumanji 4' so expect to see him revert back to his comfort zone again for the foreseeable.
  6. 84. Bring Her Back - £1.8 million Family required sacrifices. One year after her sister Melanie mysteriously disappeared, Clover and her friends head into the remote valley where she vanished in search of answers. Exploring an abandoned visitor center, they find themselves stalked by a masked killer and horrifically murdered one by one…only to wake up and find themselves back at the beginning of the same evening. Director: Michael Philippou & Danny Philippou Cast: Sally Hawkins, Billy Baratt, Mischa Heywood Release Date: 1st August 2025 Distributor: Sony Certification: 18 Genre: Horror Rotten Tomatoes: 89% IMDb: 7.1 Top 15 Chart Run: 6-13 (2 weeks) Opening Weekend: £1,218,732 (#6) A second Sony Horror film in a row, 'Bring Her Back' was the Philippou Brothers's follow-up to their breakthrough smash 'Talk To Me' (EOY #69) that earned £2.5 million in 2023. Despite an 89% higher opening (thanks to extensive previews), this has ended up falling way short of their first hit. This was another critical smash through with many claiming that Sally Hawkins was unfairly forgotten about when it came to Awards season.
  7. 85. Until Dawn - £1.8 million Every night a different nightmare. Director: David F. Sandberg Cast: Ella Rubin, Michael Cimino, Odessa A'zion Release Date: 25th April 2025 Distributor: Sony Certification: 15 Genre: Horror Rotten Tomatoes: 51% IMDb: 5.7 Top 15 Chart Run: 6-5-6-10 (4 weeks) Opening Weekend: £566,028 (#6) 2025 was a great year for video game adaptations but one that got a mixed reception, despite being a Box Office success, was Sony's 'Until Dawn'. Based on the 2015 PS4 game of the same name, fans of the game were unhappy with the unfaithful adaption of the game's story. Sony released another similar horror, 'Tarot' in the same weekend the year before and that film also had the rare #6-#5 climb in its opening two weekends. 'Tarot' finished as the #82 film of 2024 on a lower £1.4 million gross.
  8. Kacey is a brilliant add that I wasn't expecting! ❤️ With 'My Regards' being there too, my two favourite songs of the year so far are both on the playlist
  9. 86. Hamilton (10th Anniversary) - £1.8 million Experience the original Broadway production. Presenting the tale of American founding father Alexander Hamilton, this filmed version of the original Broadway smash hit is the story of America then, told by America now. Director: Thomas Kail Cast: Lin-Manuel Miranda, Leslie Odom Jr., Philipa Soo Release Date: 26th September 2025 Distributor: Disney Certification: 12A Genre: Theatre Rotten Tomatoes: 98% IMDb: 8.3 Top 15 Chart Run: 2 (1 week) Opening Weekend: £1,769,826 (#2) The third event cinema release to make the list, I did debate whether this should be included at all with it debuting on Disney+ in 2020. But as this was its first cinema release, I decided that it counts. It only had three-days in cinemas so we know it's exact total. You have to wonder just how big this would have been if the pandemic never happened and this released in cinemas like it was supposed to in 2020. Crazily, this is the third film already that only had one week in the top 15 of the UK chart at #2.
  10. 87. Caught Stealing - £1.7 million 2 Russians, 2 Jews and a Puerto Rican walk into a bar. Burned-out ex-baseball player Hank Thompson unexpectedly finds himself embroiled in a dangerous struggle for survival amidst the criminal underbelly of late 1990s New York City, forced to navigate a treacherous underworld he never imagined. Director: Darren Aronofsky Cast: Austin Butler, Regina King, Zoë Kravitz Release Date: 29th August 2025 Distributor: Sony Certification: 15 Genre: Action Rotten Tomatoes: 85% IMDb: 6.8 Top 15 Chart Run: 6-6-11 (3 weeks) Opening Weekend: £570,843 (#6) Darren Aronofsky is known for his disturbing, pitch-black dramas but he switched the mood up for this comedy-crime caper which sees ex-Doctor Who Matt Smith sport an epic mohawk. It ended up not finding the same audience as even some of Areonofsky most-challenging previous films which was a shame. But I like this direction from Butler after 'Elvis' put him on the verge of being a star.
  11. 88. Maria - £1.7 million Maria Callas, the world’s greatest opera singer, lives the last days of her life in 1970s Paris, as she confronts her identity and life. Director: Pablo Larrain Cast: Angelina Jolie, Pierfrancesco Favino, Alba Rohrwacher Release Date: 10th January 2025 Distributor: StudioCanal Certification: 12A Genre: Biopic Rotten Tomatoes: 75% IMDb: 6.4 Top 15 Chart Run: 10-12 (2 wees) Opening Weekend: £509,328 (#10) After this missed out on nominations for the Oscars after Jolie was certainly part of the discussion, this sort of film would usually fade away without leaving a mark so I think this was a surprisingly brilliant result for the film. I hardely think Maria Callas was a massive name that everyone was antipating a film about so it just goes to show that the Jolie name still earns respect and holds weight as a true movie star. This was the unofficial trilogy closer of Larrain's 'important women biopic' trilogy with the other two 'Jackie' and 'Spencer' leading to the actresses getting the Oscar nod.
  12. 89. Ocean With David Attenborough - £1.7 million David Attenborough takes viewers on a breathtaking journey showing there is nowhere more vital for our survival, more full of life, wonder, or surprise, than the ocean. Through spectacular sequences featuring coral reefs, kelp forests and the open ocean, Attenborough shares why a healthy ocean keeps the entire planet stable and flourishing. Director: Colin Butfield, Toby Nowlan & Keith Scholey Cast: David Attenborough Release Date: 8th May 2025 Distributor: Altitude Certification: PG Genre: Documentary Rotten Tomatoes: 100% IMDb: 8.4 Top 15 Chart Run: 4-5-8 (3 weeks) Opening Weekend: £574,551 (#4) Depending on what you consider the Taylor Swift release to be, this is the biggest documentary of 2025. Earning £1.7 million is a great result and just shows how much love the British public has for the man who stole the name of the boat away from Boaty McBoatface. This one has a strong environmentalist message. I'm sure it looked brilliant on the big screen too.
  13. 90. The Importance Of Being Earnest: NT Live 2025 - £1.7 million A Trivial comedy for serious people. Being sensible can be excessively boring. At least Jack thinks so. While assuming the role of dutiful guardian in the country, he lets loose in town under a false identity. Meanwhile, his friend Algy takes on a similar facade. Unfortunately, living a double life has its drawbacks, especially when it comes to love. Hoping to impress two eligible ladies, the gentlemen find themselves caught in a web of lies they must carefully navigate. Director: Max Webster Cast: Ncuti Gatwa, Hugh Skinner, Sharon D. Clarke Release Date: 20th February 2025 Distributor: National Theatre Certification: PG Genre: Theatre Rotten Tomatoes: n/a IMDb: 8.2 Top 15 Chart Run: 8 (1 week) Opening Weekend: £341,208 (#8) The second NT Live performance to make the top 100 is 'The Importance Of Being Earnest' starring Doctor Who himself, Ncuti Gatwa. This looks like a very colourful production! Lots of bright colours everywhere. Just like with 'The Fifth Step', this would have only been the third biggest National Theatre release in 2024.
  14. (178-257-326) Addison Rae - it could’ve been u (185-259-327) BLANKA - Solo (NE) Reneé Rapp - Kiss It Kiss It (NE) Megan Moroney - 6 Months Later (260-330) LIA - Blossom - (81-108-144-208-274-331) Central Cee - Loading (49-88-128-188-261-332) Little Mix - Gloves Up (109-159-226-289-333) Olivia Rodrigo - brutal (267-334) Ashe - Hornet’s Nest (194-263-335) Watsky & Camila Recchio - ROLLIN (47-87-140-202-275-336) Juice WRLD & Marshmello - Come & Go (200-270-337) Chlöe - Body Do (90-136-206-271-338) Taylor Swift - Love Story (NE) Taylor Swift feat. Sabrina Carpenter - The Life of a Showgirl - (198-269-340) TWICE - MOONLIGHT SUNRISE (272-341) Chlöe - Somebody (151-211-281-342) Saweetie feat. H.E.R. - Closer (138-201-276-343) Tiësto feat. Charli XCX - Hot In It (209-279-344) Zara Larsson - Can’t Tame Her (147-215-283-345) Ashe - Angry Woman (105-154-220-286-346) Griff - Black Hole (284-306-347) Maisie Peters - BSC (NE) Tate McRae - Just Keep Watching (31-77-131-195-284-349) Little Mix - Happiness (54-106-155-221-288-350) Hailee Steinfeld - I Love You’s Four songs from 2025 make their debuts in this section, coming from Tate McRae, Taylor Swift/Sabrina Carpenter, Megan Moroney and Reneé Rapp. Please come back to music, Hailee. I wasn't overly familiar with the original version of I Love You's (nor the Annie Lennox version that made it popular) which helped me get on board with this one. Happiness feels like it was from a different time, certainly more 2010s than 2020s but one of Little Mix's best album tracks from their later projects. The Good Witch my beloved. Such a joy listening to BSC. While Griff never became as big as she was touted to be, she will always have a massive banger in Black Hole. Gloomy lyrics with upbeat production is an ever-popular tactic and it works so well here. Angry Woman is a rocky moment from Ashe. It was a #1 hit in my chart but she does have better tracks. Some really nice vocal effects. Can't Tame Her felt like a one-time comeback for Zara before her recent re-revival. This is so ‘La Di Da’ coded that would almost feellike a rip-off it that one wasn’t already jumping off Th Weeknd and Dua Lipa's sound of the time. Hot In It rode the Charli XCX wave of the Crash era to become a hit in my chart. It's a bit repetitive but Charli's such a star. Closer is holding up so much better than other songs here. I wasn't sure on the H.E.R. chorus at first but now I love it. Love some of Saweetie's flows on the second verse. Somebody was a poppy moment from Chlöe but she kills this and its a sound she should explore more. There's about 4 different hooks and they are all catchy as hell. I enjoy the retro vibes on MOONLIGHT SUNRISE. I enjoy listening to it but I don't think about is when it's not on. Love Story is the one Taylor's Version that has become a hit in my chart. Mainly because I didn't appreciate enough on original release and I think the re-recorded vocals really improve it. Body Do has so-so verses but the falsetto chorus is such a vibe. I don't think anybody was screaming for Marshmello to produce an post-humous Juice WRLD track but Come & Go ended up being a banger. I'm not a fan of how they've dropped every bit of juice out of Juice's recordings since. I love the production on ROLLIN and Recchio's vocals sound great. One of his recent best. Hornet's Nest was a poppy moment on the Ashe album but it took a while for the 'drink he arsenic' not to sound forced to my ears but now I'm on board. What a way to open your debut album brutal was. I bet how rock-orientated Olivia's music has been caught so many people off guard on their first play of the album. The riff is so fun. There's some great vocals on the choruses on Gloves Up, especially Perrie's on the first chorus. This could have easily been a late-in-the-run album single from them. Cench's first UK hit remains his (solo) best. The beat on Loading is insane and definitely one of the best UK drill has produced. LIA was my bias in in ITZY but her being on hiatus when the album with Blossom was released that didn't help its cause. The chorus is so salty and suits her voice perfectly. Is Solo a cheap Britney copy? Maybe. Was she trying to be the new Eleni Fouiera? Certainly. But I still couldn't resist its charms. I prefer the studio version to the Eurovision performance. Addison certainly heard 'Break the Rules' before she recorded it could've been u. It's fun but nowhere near the quality of 'Diet Pepsi' or 'Fame is a Gun'.
  15. 91. Pets On A Train - £1.6 million Adventure off the rails. When a train unexpectedly starts up, taking only pets with it, the animals discover that Hans, a badger with a grudge is behind it all. While the crash seems inevitable, the animals can count on Falcon, a roguish Raccoon who will do anything to save them. Director: Benoît Daffis & Jean-Christian Tassy Cast: Damien Ferrette, Hervé Jolly, Frantz Confiac Release Date: 24th October 2025 Distributor: Altitude Certification: PG Genre: Kids Rotten Tomatoes: n/a IMDb: 6.1 Top 15 Chart Run: 8-9-14 (3 weeks) Opening Weekend: £443,107 (#8) A French-animated film (called 'Falcon Express' in its home country), its a rare European animated film to reach these shores without hiring a bunch of D-list British celebrities to redub the scenes. The plot seems to be what if 'The Nut Job' met 'Bullet Train' (and I'm sure 'Die Hard' as the villain is called Hans). It feels mad that more people went to see this than 'M3GAN 2.0' but here's the proof.
  16. 92. September 5 - £1.5 million During the 1972 Munich Olympics, an American sports broadcasting crew finds itself thrust into covering the hostage crisis involving Israeli athletes. Director: Tim Fehlbaum Cast: Peter Sarsgaard, John Magaro, Ben Chaplin Release Date: 7th February 2025 Distributor: Paramount Certification: 15 Genre: Drama Rotten Tomatoes: 92% IMDb: 7.1 Top 15 Chart Run: 5-10 (2 wees) Opening Weekend: £638,912 (#5) Nominated for the Best Original Screenplay at last year's Oscars, 'September 5' tells the story of 1972 Munich Olympic terrorists attacks from the perspective of the ABC Sports news team that ended up becoming the leading reporters of the topic. A really tense watch; I'm glad this seemed to find a bit of an audience for such a small-scale film.
  17. 93. Ne Zha 2 - £1.5 million Witness a hero reborn. After a catastrophic event leaves their bodies destroyed, Ne Zha and Ao Bing are granted a fragile second chance at life. As tensions rise between the dragon clans and celestial forces, the two must undergo a series of perilous trials that will test their bond, challenge their identities, and decide the fate of both mortals and immortals. Director: Jiao Zi Cast: Yanting Lü, Joseph, Mo Han Release Date: 21st March 2025 Distributor: Trinity Certification: 12A Genre: Action Rotten Tomatoes: 91% IMDb: 7.9 Top 15 Chart Run: 2 (1 week) Opening Weekend: £1,235,546 (#2) The highest grossing animated film and the fifth higest-grossing movie of all-time, it wasn't really the UK Box Office that helped it achieve that but its extensive previews did mean that it debuted at #2 with the biggest opening weekend for a Chinese film. However, it ran through most of its audience by then and grossed only £206k during its official 3-day opening and fell off completely after its first week. But this is still the biggest Chinese hit since the early 00s where we had 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' and 'Hero'.
  18. 94. The Fifth Step: NT Live 2025 - £1.5 million After years in the twelve steps of Alcoholics Anonymous, James becomes a sponsor to newcomer Luka. The pair bond over black coffee, trade stories and build a fragile friendship out of their shared experiences. But as Luka approaches step five – the moment of confession – dangerous truths emerge, threatening the trust on which both of their recoveries depend. Director: Finn den Hertog Cast: Martin Freeman, Jack Lowden Release Date: 27th November 2025 Distributor: National Theatre Certification: 15 Genre: Theatre Rotten Tomatoes: n/a IMDb: 8.3 Top 15 Chart Run: 8 (1 week) Opening Weekend: £202,003 (#8) The first of six 'event cinema' releases in the top 100. We always seem to get at least one NT Live release that breaks out each year (four made the top 100 in 2024) and 'The Fifth Step' is the first of three in 2025. A two-hander between Martin Freeman and Jack Lowden, this was written by David Ireland. This would have been the third biggest NT live release in 2024.
  19. 95. Together - £1.5 million Join us. Years into their relationship, Tim and Millie find themselves at a crossroads as they move to the country, abandoning all that is familiar in their lives except each other. With tensions already flaring, a nightmarish encounter with a mysterious, unnatural force threatens to corrupt their lives, their love, and their flesh. Director: Michael Shanks Cast: Alison Brie, Dave Franco, Damon Herriman Release Date: 15th August 2025 Distributor: Entertainment Film Certification: 15 Genre: Horror Rotten Tomatoes: 89% IMDb: 6.7 Top 15 Chart Run: 8-11 (2 weeks) Opening Weekend: £504,490 (#8) Real-life married couple Alison Brie and Dave Franco joined together (in a very literal sense) in this body-horror that saw Neon pay $17 million to earn distribution rights during the Sundance Film Festival. Despite strong buzz, this never broke out in the same way as 'The Substance' did in 2024 but it will be a great calling card for first time director Michael Shanks. This faced a plagiarism lawsuit after Patrick Henry Phelan claimed that its a copy of his 2023 film 'Better Half' which he claimed he had pitched to Brie and Franco. And yes '2 Become 1' is used in the film.
  20. 96. Fackham Hall - £1.4 million Born to aristocracy. Bred for idiocy. A new servant embarks on an unlikely relationship with the youngest daughter of a prominent English family. Simultaneously, rivalries are spilling over in the Davenport family, led by the Lord and Lady as they also weather the epic failure of the wedding of their eldest daughter to her caddish cousin. Director: Jim O'Hanlon Cast: Thomasin McKenzie, Damian Lewis, Ben Radcliffe Release Date: 12th December 2025 Distributor: Entertainment Film Certification: 15 Genre: Comedy Rotten Tomatoes: 74% IMDb: 6.4 Top 15 Chart Run: 5-7-13 (3 weeks) Opening Weekend: £407,006 (#5) Striking just as the iron was hot, right after the franchise released it's third and final film 15 years after the TV show began, Jimmy Carr's Downton Abbey parody 'Fackham Hall' finally reached cinemas in December. This could have easily been a straight-to-streaming film but it felt like there was an effort to get comedy back on the big screen last year and this did okayish for a cheap, British comedy. It's reviews were surprisingly strong though so maybe it will find its audience on streaming in years to come.
  21. 97. Nobody 2 - £1.4 million Nobody ruins his vacation Former assassin Hutch Mansell takes his family on a nostalgic vacation to a small-town theme park, only to be pulled back into violence when they clash with a corrupt operator, a crooked sheriff, and a ruthless crime boss. Director: Timo Tjahjanto Cast: Bob Odenkirk, Connie Nielsen, John Ortiz Release Date: 15th August 2025 Distributor: Universal Certification: 15 Genre: Action Rotten Tomatoes: 76% IMDb: 6.3 Top 15 Chart Run: 10-9 (2 weeks) Opening Weekend: £475,724 (#10) The sequel to the surprise 'John Wick'-esque, post-COVID cinema reopening hit 'Nobody', this felt like it had potential to breakout. There's a lot of good will towards star Bob Odenkirk, especially with him recovering from a heart attack and the casting of Sharon Stone as the villain sounded interesting. But this ended up opening lower than the pandemic-impacted originally, although it did end up closing with the same £1.4 million. I don't think its done enough for a trilogy closer unfortunately.
  22. 98. Sentimental Value - £1.4 million Sisters Nora and Agnes reunite with their estranged father, the charismatic Gustav, a once-renowned director who offers stage actress Nora a role in what he hopes will be his comeback film. When Nora turns it down, she soon discovers he has given her part to an eager young Hollywood star. Director: Joachim Trier Cast: Renate Reinsve, Stellan Skarsgård, Elle Fanning Release Date: 26th December 2025 Distributor: MUBI Certification: 15 Genre: Drama Rotten Tomatoes: 95% IMDb: 7.7 Top 15 Chart Run: 9-10-13 (3 weeks) Opening Weekend: £251,054 (#9) Norwegian director and actor pair Joachim Trier and Renate Reinsve follow-up their big awards contender 'The Worst Person In The World' with another in 'Sentimental Value' that also saw Skarsgård, Fanning and Lilleaas join them in picking up Oscar nominations. Released late last year, most of its money has been earned during the early parts of this year when all of the Award Ceremonies were taking place. Their first one fell just short of £1 million so this is a very good result.
  23. 99. Christmas Karma - £1.3 million Based on the Charles Dickens classic A Christmas Carol In contemporary London, miserly British-Indian businessman Eshan Sood is compelled by three ghosts to reflect on his life and to consider the needs of those around him. Director: Gurinder Chadha Cast: Kunal Nayyar, Leo Sutter, Charithra Chandran Release Date: 14th November 2025 Distributor: True Brit Entertainment Certification: PG Genre: Christmas Rotten Tomatoes: 24% IMDb: 4.5 Top 15 Chart Run: 7-7-15 (3 weeks) Opening Weekend: £487,528 (#7) A British-Indian Bollywood-inspired retelling of A Christmas Carol, 'Christmas Karma' sees The Big Bang Theory's Kunal Nayyar play Scrooge (named Sood in this film) alongside a who's who of random celebrities (what other film can claim Danny Dyer, Eva Longoria and Pixie Lott in their cast). A Christmas film always seems to make the list and this proved to be 2025's winner, despite some markedly unfestive reviews.
  24. 100. L2: Empuraan - £1.3 million Five years after becoming Chief Minister of Kerala, Jathin Ramdas’ move to align with communal forces led by Balraj ‘Baba’ Bajrangi, triggers Stephen Nedumpally aka Khureshi Ab’raam to return with his Man Friday Zayed Masood to save his home state and settle scores. Director: Prithviraj Sukumaran Cast: Mohanlal, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Rick Yune Release Date: 27th March 2025 Distributor: BTS Entertainments Certification: 15 Genre: Action Rotten Tomatoes: n/a IMDb: 6.2 Top 15 Chart Run: 2 (1 week) Opening Weekend: £1,210,579 (#2) I really didn't know where this one should place. After its first weekend, there's practically no reporting on its UK box office so it's hard to know where it's landed. It actually made another £200k in its opening weekend in Ireland but, as it got a different distribution, the totals weren't combined. That would have been it already appear a few places higher. This is one of three Indian films in the top 100 and was very controversial in its home country. They ended up making cuts after it was criticised as being "anti-Hindu propaganda'.
