(1 week) Ice Cream Man (1 week) The Invite (6 weeks) Obsession (13 weeks) It’s a hat-trick for Spider-Man as ‘Brand New Day’ books a third week at #1 after a 49% drop that saw it add another £6 million and end the weekend just short of £80 million in total. This means that it is currently the 12th biggest film ever in the UK and it will breach the top 10 next weekend. ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ is currently the 4th biggest film and that was only at £69,849,930 at this time in its run and that had just had a Christmas boost. It’s currently an insane time for cinemas as the film at #2, ‘The Odyssey’ is now also a top 20 film of all-time after a 29% in week 5 sees it reach £69 million. Both films are miles ahead of the £56.6 million ‘A Minecraft Movie’ made to finish as last year’s top film. In fact, ‘Toy Story 5’ (-28% this weekend) is only about a million away from becoming the third 2026 film to outgross it. The highest new entry this weekend is ‘The End Of Oak Street’ which opens at #3 with £2,112,782. The third release of a successful summer for Anne Hathaway, this also stars Ewan McGregor and is the long-awaited return for director David Robert Mitchell, who’s second feature ‘It Follows’ (£371,142, #8. 2015) was a pioneer in the ‘elevated horror’ trend of late and will be getting a sequel very soon. That film only made £1.1 million so this has instantly become his biggest hit. And this Dinosaur flick certainly has the budget to boot, reported to be between $80-90 million. It’s earned sold reviews but audiences have been more mixed so it will be interesting to see how it holds and if it can become profitable in the theatrical window. The other jurassic release in cinemas currently, ‘Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie’ loses 59% (-37% without previews) in weekend 2 to climb to £3.2 million. Also debuting in the top 5 is the documentary? (it doesn’t seem to be a concert film) ‘KATSEYE: Wild Hearts’ (£725,419, £367k without previews, #4). This feels like a pretty decent release for a band who are already two members down, despite only being around for two-years. Also getting a healthy preview boost, ‘Tony’ opens at #8 with £402,472 (£292k without previews). This is a biopic about a short period in the youth of Anthony Bourdain and sees Dominic Sessa portray the now late celebrity chef. It looks like the film is expanding next weekend so might end up sticking around. The final new entry this week is from India and is ‘Vishwanath & Sons’ (£279,945, #10). This is a romantic dram-com about a father who reconnects with the surrogate mother of his child after she gets diagnosed with a serious illness. It’s good to see the barrier to the top 10 look so healthy again after so many weeks of sub-£100k top 10 entries. It was a decent time for kids films overall with ‘Minions & Monsters’ (-26%) and ‘Moana’ (-30%) rounding out the top 10 with good holds. The hold for Minions was the best of the week. Speaking of holds, we finally say goodbye to ‘Obsession’ after a 13-week run. But don’t fret, it’s still in this week’s top 15 at #14. There are three further new entries in the #11-15 section: ‘Awarapan 2’ (#11), ‘Sunny Days (#12) and ‘Lady’ (#15). Next week sees the openings of ‘Insidious: Out Of The Further’, ‘Mutiny’, ‘Teenage Sex And Death At Camp Miasma’, ‘& Sons’, ‘Spa Weekend’, ‘Stop! That! Train! and ‘David’. nowhere, nobody is a great way to close the album. I usually want to hear her vocals in all their glory but the vocoder effect is used perfectly and makes it sound haunting.

bad thing (bunny hop) is the one that feels ripe for a Weeknd remix to me. It sounds soooo Weeknd. I think 6 years ago it might have been one of my faves but I feel like it doesn't feel that fresh anymore.

One some listens I love never get over me and on some listens, it just washes over me a bit. I think on one of my early listen-throughs, I ranked it 4th and then on my next listen, I had it down at 10th. But when it hits, it HITS!

like i do is another massive standout. I'd do anything for her to perform this one at my show date on tour! Keep my heels tall, my ego small, but I'm still grande

I love how off-the-rails warning shots goes. Especially as it starts off with the same production as 'freak'. I hope it gets an extended version in a future deluxe or anniversary release like 'Knew Better' or 'end of the world'.

freak is my least-favourite track on the album. It's growing on me but it's one of the dullest production wise. I think everyone was expecting this to be the 'big feelings' lyrically and was surprised at what we ended up getting. The transition to the interlude is elite though!

big feelings is THE album track for me. It feels so classic Ariana to me. I love it when she gets in the overly confident, sexual bag and is this is one of her best in that genre.

I appreciate the garage elements in oh well but have found it to be one of the least impactful sounds overall for me. I think it's the first song so far without Max Martin credited and I think it misses his spark. The bridge is really nice though!

stay is a big highlight for me. I love the reverb in the production and she sounds amazing

I know petal is not a massively popular choice as a single but I'm not against it. I love the melody of the chorus so much. It's so catchy! It wasn't a favourite from the album on the first couple of listens but it's really landed with me; especially after watching the video a few times. "But I am not the victim, bitch I'm practically drowning in my blessings" is one of my favourite lyrics on the album.

hate that i made you love me was a great choice for lead-single. Fits in with the themes of the album perfectly. Her lower register sounds particularly good here. Fun video too!

I didn't manage to get a slot for the pop-up yesterday 😥 But it's probably for the best because the last day of the pop-up is the 28th and that's the day I travel to London and it would have been difficult to fit checking in to the hotel and going to the pop-up and still making the actual concert 🤣

This means it has already climbed up to be the fourth biggest film in the MCU overall and it will knock ‘Infinity War’ out from bronze position by next week. Next week will give us more of an indication, but its looking good for this to be a £100 million+ grosser. Also climbing up in the YTD chart (to #2) is ‘The Odyssey’ which holds brilliantly again too with -23% being the best hold in the top 10. It is now Nolan’s biggest ever film in the UK and has entered the top 30 films of all-time. The biggest new entry this week is ‘Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie’ (£1,672,975, £1.1 million without previews, #3). This is down on the £2,410,496 that ‘Paw Patrol: The Movie’ (#2) opened with in 2022 and the £3,348,155 that ‘Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie’ (#2) opened with in 2023. Although, sans-previews, all three of these films opened at £1.1 million which makes them feel much more consistent. The first film made £8.5 million in total which remains the franchise peak so far. This is certainly an improvement on last year’s ‘A Paw Patrol Christmas’ (£250,149, #9) which held throughout the holiday season to close with about £1.2 million. Another frequent cinema presence who isn’t afraid of a Christmas release, Andre Rieu has his annual summer release with ‘2026 Summer Concert: Viva Maastricht!’ opening at #6 with £499,762. This continues the trend of the summer releases opening lower and lower after ‘2025 Maastricht Concert: Waltz the Night Away!’ (£566,325, #7) and ‘2024 Maastricht Concert: Power Of Love' (£629,652, #5). The third-and-final new entry this week is Eli Roth’s ‘Ice Cream Man’ which debuts at #8 with £308,198 (£241k without previews). That’s about as much commentary as that film deserves. But I will add that it’s lower than his last film ‘Thanksgiving’ (£486,198, #6, 2023) which made about £1.4 million in total. I would do an ‘opening weekend history’ chart for Roth but I honestly don’t want to waste that much time on him. ‘Despite’ climbing above what was the reigning #1 of the year, ‘Toy Story 5’ actually falls a place to #3 in the YTD charts due to Spider-Man and Odyssey’s success. The real loser this week is ‘Michael’ which goes from being the biggest hit of 2026 to 4th in less than 7 days. Pixar’s latest, however, is out of the weekly top 3 for the first time but has another decent hold (-31%) and climbs above ‘Frozen II’ in the all-time animated list with ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ falling in the next few days as well. ‘Minions & Monsters’ loses 31% in week 6. In terms of it’s weekend drops, it’s stuck around and performed pretty similarly to other films in the franchise, it’s just that it opened so much lower that the gross looks poor. It’s only this weekend that it was outgrossed THE OPENING WEEKEND of ‘Despicable Me 2’ (£14,822,427, #1) in 2013. The other underwhelming kids blockbuster, ‘Moana’ is having an even worse time, dropping 36% and still trailing the £12,021,342 that ‘Moana 2’ opened with in 2024. ‘The Invite’ has really stuck around well, losing 27% in weekend 6 as it pushes towards £4 million. ‘Obsession’ finally drops below £100k for the first time but still manages a 13th weekend in the top 10 with a 34% drop. There are four further new entries in the #11-15 section: ‘Thudakkam’ (#11), ‘DC’ (#12), ‘Yaar Jigree Kasooti Degree’ (#14) and ‘The Summer Book’ (#15). We also see a re-entry for ‘Practical Magic’ at #13. Next week sees the openings of ‘The End Of Oak Street’, ‘Sunny Dancer’, ‘Tony’, ‘Lady’, ‘Katseye: Wild Hearts', 'Nimrods: A Green Day Comedy’, ‘Momo And The Time Thiefs’, ‘All Wishes Come True!’ and ‘Agadha’. We also see a re-release of ‘The Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists!’. Can any of them top the charts? ~ Summer Box Office Top 5: 1. (03) Spider-Man: Brand New Day - £65,067,504 2. To celebrate the release of the petal, the listening party concept will return this week. We're thinking Wednesday (12th August) if that works for everyone. Maybe a 8:30PM BST start.
