Colombia vs Argentina would have been the better game but well done Switzerland. If my memory serves, I think this means, aside from Europe, this tournament won’t have had any teams from the same confederation playing against each other.

Not the best game. Colombia look solid but are missing quality up front. Shame Manzambi is injured.

Hollis & Gifted Gab - AWW SHiT Four songs from 2025 make their debuts in this section, coming from LISA/Doja Cat/RAYE, Hailee Steinfeld, Alessi Rose and Madison Beer. The lead single to his final studio album, AWW SHiT felt like of a throwback to Watsky's earlier sound with a proper rapped verses in his pacy flow. Gifted Gab provides a solid guest verse and Hollis sounds lovely on the hook. Alongside a playful video which nods to those of his past, this just feels very nostalgic to me and brings back to my early teenage years in a way that no other song released in the 2020s does. Essentially a showpiece track from a gritty kitchen-sink musical play, We Cry Together is just as a piece of performance art than it is a song. For whatever reason though, this 6-minute track that consists of a couple arguing and very little else doesn’t sound uncomfortable at all and earned a place in my playlists. The performances are wonderful and you have to give a lot of credit to Taylour Paige for stealing so much of the spotlight away from Kendrick on a track like this. The looped piano is such a confrontational sound too and only adds to the tenseness. FLOWER making JISOO the first of BLACKPINK to get a solo UK top 40 hit remains one of my favourite chart moments of the decade. It really was not an obvious choice for her to launch her solo career with the lyrics being 95% in Korean, the drop really acting as the chorus and quite a relaxed tempo. Her little accompanying dance to this song now feels really iconic for her and I’ve loved seeing her perform it on tour With the features originally being hidden when the album dropped, I was not expecting Lil Baby to drop in early in the second verse of p r i d e . i s . t h e . d e v i l and then was even more surprised to see him absolutely kill it. Not known for his strong lyrical ability, Baby brought his a-game here and Cole cleverly starts off the verse aping his signature flow which allows the transition between the two to be one of the smoothest I’ve ever heard. Cole’s verse is full of great lines and its exploration of the impact of proudness is such an interesting perspective. In the slew of 80s inspired synth-pop we got in the wake of ‘Blinding Lights’, I think LA DI DA might just be the apex. The sound got a bit tired but this still sounds so fresh to me. It’s just one of those rare tracks where every decision made pays off in spades. When to throw in a high note, when to go more baritone, when to add some claps. It’s just perfection. I don’t use TikTok so I usually miss out on when an artist releases a clip of their song before release to build hype but I ended up seeing the snippet Ashe released of the bridge to Another Man's Jeans months before its official release and I was obsessed. Thankfully the full track did not disappoint and I adore the relaxing, summery production. Hus’s most recent album was a big disappointment overall; made even worse by how brilliant the lead single, It's Crazy, was. He makes some great chilled out tracks but he’s never been afraid to get aggressive and the horror-core style matches his style flawlessly. The visuals in the video are top notch as well and there are not many other artists how can make this sound so respectable that they would get away with the ‘murder gives me a boner’ line. Godzilla bagged Eminem his 10th UK #1 single in 2020 with a great help from the late Juice WRLD on what was his first posthumous release. While I knew that Juice idolised Eminem, it still sounds like an eclectic mix of styles but one that just about works. Eminem has his late-career standard mix of good bars and cringy punchlines but it’s the better ones that stick in the memory. It’s notable for helping Eminem breaking his own record (from ‘Rap God’) for the fastest verse on a hit single. Another one of those songs that is intrinsically linked to memories of a certain time of my life. Releasing in summer 2020, How You Like That is of course a lockdown anthem but it was actually released one month into me training (from home) for my first job post uni degree so it has an even more specific memories attached to it. It’s maybe not my favourite single for them but I’m much more on board with it again now than I was even a couple of years ago, really helped by their tour last year being my favourite from them yet. deja vu will maybe end up being best remembered for starting the hinted-at beef between Olivia and Taylor, but I have to admit, I still can’t hear the ‘Cruel Summer’ interpolation which earned Taylor’s team retroactive writing credits. It has a great off-kilter production style where the song builds to the crescendo of the bridge where she lets loose. It’s such a great song for someone to release so young and so early into their career. After 5 years of solid success in my chart, ITZY finally released their magnum-opus track, UNTOUCHABLE, to bag their first EOY top 10 in my chart in 2024 and ironically, it was while my favourite member, LIA, was on hiatus. This helped YUNA to overtake as my bias but, now LIA is back established, she’s won the crown back. It’s one of their most standard sounding productions but the it sounds so smooth and the melodies are so well-written that it still stands out. They retain the attitude of their crazier tracks. We did eventually get a version of this song with added LIA vocals too! It’s just hitting me now that I will be hearing we can’t be friends (wait for your love) live next month. 🥳 Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is an amazing film and Ari uses imagery from that film to brilliant effect throughout the album and the parallels conjured between that and this song are masterfully done. It’s quite understated but still packs a huge punch. Mainly thanks to Ari’s vocals. They’re not the powerhouse, show-offy vocals were used to from earlier albums but she uses all of her experience to shine just as much without needing to exert herself. The first new #1 of the 2020s in my chart, Say So is still holding strong in the decade-to-date top 40. It was very deserving of being the big breakthrough for Doja into the mainstream with it’s retro-disco stylings complimenting her breathy, airy vocals. And when she picks the pace up and shows off her rapping ability, it lands all the harder. Doja’s great strength is her versatility and its all on display here. I was a casual fan of bea before but it was Take A Bite that made me sit up and properly take notice. It’s fairly monotonous in style and Rick Rubin’s production is quite grungy and unclean but I find it so addictive to listen to. As soon as it ends, I want to press replay. I love Bea’s sweet vocals and they work in grounding this song and giving you something to catch on to. The melody in the chorus is just particularly memorable for me and I constantly find myself humming its tune. Landing just above 'yes baby', Baby was a great R&B-Pop blend which certainly caught my attention back in 2020. It earned her many Ariana comparisons but I think she adds enough of her own personality to make it her own. Listening to it straight after yb, its clear how much crisper and cleaner the production has gotten in her music as how much sharper her vocals are as she has matured but there’s something about this era that connected with me so much that it has a massive place in my heart. bad idea right? is one of Olivia's most experimental tracks and an unconventional choice for a single, bad idea right? sees Olivia put on a quite Wet Leg-eqsue delivery and incorporating some of their trademark conversational, humorous songwriting over some 90s-inspired garage rock distorted guitars. The instrumental bridge is so wacky but I adore it and would rank it amongst my favourite musical moments of the 20s. I was a little late getting on board with the singles to ‘Future Nostalgia’ but I was given another chance to get on board after Dua’s track for the world-dominating Barbie soundtrack, Dance The Night, sounded like it was straight off the album. It was an instant #1 for me and almost an EOY #1 too. Dua can make this disco-pop records with ease and this is more proof that she’s mastered that craft. Mark Ronson is amongst the producers too and he also certainly has history in making danceable floor fillers. It’s use in the film is perfect too and elevated it from a great pop song to something even more special I forgot just how good Lightning is! It did end up at #2 in my 2022 EOY chart but I just haven’t gone back to it much which has seen it drop lower than you’d expect here. I said LA DI DA might be the best of the 80s synthpop nostalgia wave but I was omitting this. It’s so striking and manic that it feels like a punch as soon as you turn it on. It’s excessive and overly energetic with the vocoder, the punching synths and heavy bass but you can’t stop listening, anticipating where it’s going to go next. There’s one synth in here that is placed perfectly and always gives me chills. Definitely one that you need to listen to with good headphones to appreciate all of the little flourishes. I think Bring It Back is the highest rap song in this list and it’s quite funny that it’s a song that relies heavily on the two artists’ pasts. This saw Digga and AJ borrow the flows (and recreate the videos) from the songs that first saw them breakthrough (CGM’s ‘Next Up Freestyle’ and AJ’s ‘Packages’ respectively) and they still sound brilliant to the day. Digga isn’t an all-time favourite of mine but his interplay with AJ is so fun and he’s created something bigger than himself here. Some really nice bars from AJ too. It’s really Madison’s section and she finishes off with her second pair of back-to-back songs. make you mine has been on rotation a lot this year too with its delayed inclusion on her recent album and said album’s tour. This is maybe the song where she perfected her dark dance-pop sound and it almost became a UK top 40 hit. It’s was the highlight of her tour two years ago and it was another standout this time around. It’s a bit of a fan fave and the audience is always really up for it. BOYSHIT, on the other hand, may be older and less advanced but you can still here signs of the direction she was going to head in. It’s much more pop than dance but there’s little bits of distortion and more cinematic production that make it still killer. The conceit of the song is fun and she does a lot with the concept with a great singalong chorus.

FIFA got the result they wanted. 🤷‍♂️ Not a chance in a million years that the Egypt goal would have been ruled out if it was the other way around which the third goal proves.

Why has the director decided to show hardly any replays of the decision that has got Egypt so angry?

Hassan was taken off far too early. He was Egypt’s spark. Feels set up for a Salah last minute winner for him to equal the Egypt record.

Fair play to Belgium. Drop their stars and play their best football. De Ketelaere has looked rubbish so far but looked like a proper baller today. I don’t think USA have been helped by how dead the Seattle crowd have been in the past 2 games. The atmosphere in the group stage was great. The last 2 games have felt like friendlies. I did say Ream would be a liability as soon as they played a decent team too!

It’s very much unprecedented. The Ronaldo decision was ridiculous at the time but it wasn’t during a tournament where the rules are so clear. He’s going to retire so he won’t miss anything but if he did, at least it would be in UEFA games when he was suspended during UEFA qualifying. The Senegal bans from the AFCON final didn't count for the World Cup either, only CAF games. I couldn’t care less how anyone else other than England does in the tournament. The only international teams I want to lose are Wales and Israel. I don’t care about the US at all.

    “Qualifying”
  15. LewisGT posted a post in a topic in Sports and Fitness
It hasn’t even been reversed. There isn’t a method to reverse red cards at the World Cup. Whether it should have been a red card to not is complete irrelevant. The ban has just been suspended for a year so he can plan today because the US’s government has got involved. This is complexity unprecedented and goes completely against the rules and spirit of the sport. You get a red card and you’re banned for the next game. It’s that simple, it’s always been that simple and after today it will be that simple again. The fact that FIFA have decided to just make up new rules on a whim makes the whole tournament a farce. Every team should be given an equal chance and now they haven’t. FIFA have fixed the tournament. Why did the two South African players who were sent off in the opening have to serve their ban now (one of them for 3 games) where there’s this super-secret option of getting your leader to complain and get it suspended for a year? It’s set a precedent so that every single red card in a World Cup ever again will be complained about and there’s no justification for a player even being banned again. We all knew FIFA was corruptly (peace prize anyone?) but this is corruption that actually effects the result of the tournament which really ruins any credibility they had left. Everyone involved in the decision should be in jail!

(NE) Alpha - £160,448 Weeks: 1 (£160,448) 10. (06) Scary Movie - £120,250 (-46%) Weeks: 5 (£9,222,067) Falling out: Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War: The Calamity (1 week) Les Liaisons Dangereuses: NT Live 2026 (1 week) Michael (10 weeks) We see another franchise struggle this summer but the same cannot be said for ‘Toy Story 5’ which tops the chart for a third week after a 37% sees it hit £38 million in total. With a World Cup ongoing and direct competition, this is really impressive for Pixar’s iconic franchise as it’s still outpacing ‘Toy Story 4’ from the same time period (£36,039,107). It’s now up to #3 in the YTD chart and will be #2 in the next couple of days. ‘Minions & Monsters’ becomes the latest film to underwhelm this summer, debuting at #2 with £4,376,676 (£3.5 million without previews). This is the lowest 3-day opening of the ‘Despicable Me’ series and only beats the original (£3,664,376, #1, 2010) when previews are added. This is despite it becoming the first film in the franchise that critics loved (it currently stands at an outstanding 91% on Rotten Tomatoes). However, there is still some hope as the previous film ‘Despicable Me 4’ (£8,856,183, #1, 2024) was the lowest opening since the original but ended up having insane legs and closing out above £48 million and becoming the biggest film of the franchise. It’s a remarkably consistent series overall with pretty much every one since the original landing in the £45-50 million range. This is going to need to hold crazy to reach the same sort of figure. Earning a medal position thanks to previews, ‘The Invite’ enters at #3 with £799,383 (£747k without previews). This is the third film as director from Olivia Wilde and has a great cast with her taking a starring role alongside Seth Rogen, Penélope Cruz and Edward Norton. It’s an English-language remake of the 2020 Spanish film ‘The People Upstairs’ and is a comedy about a struggling couple who invite their happier neighbours from upstairs for a dinner party. It’s certainly had less drama surrounding it than her previous release, ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ (£2,771,935, #2, 2022) but doesn’t open as strong. It’s stronger than her debut ‘Booksmart’ (£324,917, #9, 2019) though. The final new entry this week is Indian release ‘Alpha’ (£160,448, #9). This is the seventh entry in the YRF Spy Universe which includes massive hit ‘Pathaan’. The most recent release was ‘War 2’ which also opened at #9 last year but with a much stronger gross (£503,416). If DC were hoping that ‘Supergirl’ might hold strong after a poor opening, they’ve been left disappointed after it suffers a 71% drop (63% without previews) in weekend two. It’s currently at £4.5 million which leaves it less than £200k away from overtaking the final total of ‘Blue Beetle’. That’s about as positive a thing I can say for this release. Last week’s other new release, ‘Jackass: Best And Last’ fairs better with a 46% drop helping it climb to £1.7 million. It’s a stepdown from ‘Forever’ but, giving how cheap these films are to make, Paramount will still be making a healthy profit. ‘Obsession’ is still the obsession of cinemagoers after only dropping 16% in week 8 for another weekend in the top 5. This is despite it becoming available to rent from home this weekend. It’s at £17.6 million and you wouldn’t bet against it hitting £20 million at this rate. ‘Backroom’s has a small 2% increase while holding at #8 as it passes £12.5 million. ‘Scary Movie’ looks now like it won’t hit £10 million after a 46% drop. But it will end as the second biggest release in the franchise. ‘Disclosure Day’ loses 45% and is closing in on £12 million. There is one further new entries in the #11-15 section: ‘Nirvanna: The Band: The Show: The Movie’ (#11). Next week sees the openings of ‘Moana’, ‘Evil Dead Burn’, ‘Life Support’, ‘Rosebush Pruning’, ‘Dhamaal 4’ and ‘Shoot The People’. We also get a re-release of ‘Wallace And Gromit: A Grand Day Out/The Wrong Trousers’. Can any of them top the charts? ~ Summer Box Office Top 5: 1. (02) Toy Story 5 - £37,954,828 2. (01) The Devil Wears Prada 2 - £34.2 million 3. (03) Obsession - £17,559,289 4. (04) Star Wars: The Mandalorian And Grogu - £15,647,528 5. (05) Backrooms - £12,686,558 Same top 5 but again but Toy Story 5 has overtaken The Devil Wears Prada 2 to be the biggest hit of the summer.

Did expect Norway to win but thought it’d be in extra time or penalties. This new Brazil always get beat every time they face a decent European side. Has there ever been a more unbalanced “rivalry” than Haaland vs Gabriel? Potentially the greatest goalscorer we’ve ever seen versus a fairly decent premier league-level centre-back.
