I think I remember hearing “Put Yourself In My Place” on the radio before hand, but Spinning Around was my introduction to Kylie! And what an entrance she made for me! I was a bit stupid though, as I thought she was also the same woman who did 2 Faced.

Welcome to On This Day... — a daily celebration of pop history! Each day, we'll be spotlighting iconic (and not-so-iconic!) moments from music history that happened on this exact date — whether it's the release of a song or album, a memorable music video premiere, a pop star birthday, or any other chart/pop culture milestone. Feel free to contribute anything you know that happened on this day — whether it’s: Single/album/video releases Big chart moments Birthdays of your fave popstars Iconic live performances Niche pop trivia Or just something worth celebrating! Let’s build a fun little pop time capsule together. 💿🎈 I'll kick things off with today's entries — and I’d love to see what you remember happening today in pop history! 👇
  5. I would love Manchild to kick of NOW 121, but I feel like her label/team will say no since the album isn't out yet. If it does though, that'd save the album having no Number 1s on it.
  6. I love this. It could be a great song for the summer if it became a hit.
  7. Been a while since I reviewed the tracks... Let's Smash Hits this selection of New Releases Blusher - Last Man Standing 9/10 I'm so obsessed with this girlband! It's just pure pop! It's like a mix of Little Mix/Carly Rae Jepsen/Sabrina Carpenter/Girl Thing. What a banger! Calum Hood - Sunsetter 4/10 It's not really me, but I do get a nice nostalgic feeling from it. I can hear late 90s Supergrass, and a little bit of Harry Styles "Sign of The Times". That's not a bad thing, but it's not a good thing either (for me). Henry Moodie - Comedown 3/10 Oh I was expecting the chorus to go off, but it didn't. It's kinda... lazy? boring? predictable? The guy is cute though! Jessica Winter - Aftersun 7/10 Yaaaaaaaaas for the 00s Dance/House/Pop beat! This should be a contender for Song of the Summer, but I imagine it's not gonna hit big - but it should! Makes me wanna listen to Moony - Dove (I'll Be Loving You), Jason Nevins - I'm In Heaven, Milky - Just The Way You Are, and DB Boulevard - Point of View. Mae Muller - In My Head 1/10 This goes nowhere. What a boring song. I like the electro guitar in the background though. Mark Ronson & Raye - Suzanne 8/10 Wow! This is taking me back to Mark's "Version" album! Raye's vocals with Mark's percussion is just a match made in heaven. It's pure sunny weather music - so funky! I love it! Tyla - Everything Goes With Blue 10/10 Okaaaaay! This is a bop of a banger! We love a chant! I'm gonna have this on repeat alot! Zara Larsson - Midnight Sun 9/10 Living for this Breakbeat/Drum & Bass beat with her angelic vocals. I want this to be a big hit for her. The warbling of "midnight suuUuUuUuuuuuun" is giving Ray of Light vibes as well. Total toot! My winner: Tyla - Everything Goes With Blue But Blusher, Jessica, and Zara were so close to being my winners to. What a good week for the pop girlies (again). My final thoughts: Me to Mae Muller:
  8. That's true! I guess we'll have to wait and see if she appears (that's if it's big enough to appear). I wonder if Miley will make 121, or be delayed for 122 - she does like to take her time to appear with her songs.
  9. I'd love 'Jungle' by Sugababes to appear! 'When The Rain Comes' did make 116, so it is possible. I imagine they'll add the winning Eurovision song as well (and hopefully Remember Monday's entry). I don't think Lorde will appear since "Solar Power" didn't make 109/110 - probably something to do with her anti-CD thing? (so dumb) For Selena maybe "Bluest Flame" will be big enough before the release of 121. It's getting a lot of attention on TikTok. And it's gonna be another Pop Girlies heavy album again (I hope). Gaga, Chappell, Sabrina, Miley, Tate, Zara, JADE, and Addison are great tracks and should be added!
  10. Probably alone on this, but I’d love that kind of treatment for a 90s one. The one from 2014 (3CD) was un-inspired, but so much fun!
  11. Abracadabra, Sports Car, and IT girl. What a holy trio!
  12. Mariah Carey’s “We Belong Together” has a nice couple of Slow Jamz mentions: Bobby Womack’s “If You Think You’re Lonely Now”, and Babyface’s “Two Occasions”. Never heard of them before and now I love them thanks to Miss Mimi
  13. The best place for pre-orders for me is HMV. They usually dispatch when stock comes in, and because of that a lot of my CDs come Thursday instead of Friday.
  14. On This Day in NOW History: March 10th NOW That's What I Call Running 2014 (3CD) [2014] NOW That's What I Call 60's Pop (4CD / 3LP) [2023]

I'm very excited. Love In Real Life is a great song, but I feel like her label isn't gonna pull out the stops to get a hit for this era. Wouldn't surprise me if they're trying to drop her. But until then give me the bops, Queen!
  16. My Smash Hits Review: Chloe Qisha - Sex, Drugs & Existential Dread. [10] The lyrics of Tove Lo, the paranoia of Olivia Rodrigo, a fabulous saxophone moment, a lovely bit of humour, and eating Taco Bell while the word ends! It's a pure bop! TENS TENS TENS ACROSS THE BOARD! Elton John & Brandi Carlile - Swing For The Fences. [8] Very satisfying beat to it! And the piano with the build up is just pure bliss! I just hate Elton John. So it's a solid 8! James Arthur - Karaoke [3]. I've never liked anything from him, but this sounds a bit different - he's not really over-singing it like he does with most of the songs. That chorus is good. Is it catchy? nah. Is it something we've heard many times before (this year already)? Well Yes. But there's a bit more effort in this one. Have a 3, James - I'm feeling generous JENNIE & Dua Lipa - Handlebars. [6] I thought this was gonna pop off? But it isn't? It's like a Pharrell/Silk City moment. Okay! It's disappointing for what I thought it was gonna be, but I'm still quite pleased. Love the Chorus! It's a safe 6. Lady Gaga - Vanish Into You [9] C'mon Piano & Vocal opener! C'mon Funky Disco Darksided Pop! This is giving Summerboy (from The Fame), Bad Romance, all mixed in with Born This Way instrumentals. It's giving a nostalgic feeling and it's only just come out! That's witchcraft! This is an instant 9! Nathy Peluso - Erotika. [7] "I don't know what the f*** she's saying, but girl I am living!" - Trinity The Tuck, RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 4. Chances are, if you call your song a type of P**n I'm gonna live! I see you Madonna! Remember Monday - What The Hell Just Happened? [8] That intro gave me all the goosebumps - and then it jumps into a brilliant Synth-Pop-80s-Fame-But-Produced-By-WetLeg-Moment. And then back into the ballady chorus again? This is brilliant! Will it work in a live setting? I think so, it's very "SPACE MAN" coded isn't it? Will it win? Nah - but we will be getting more than 0 for sure! 8 Points from me! Supersister - Lock Your Boyfriends Up. [8] This pops off, but it could totally pop off more right? But it captures that early 2000s Max Martin/StarGate sound so well. It's an 8! My vote goes to: Chloe Qisha - Sex, Drugs & Existential Dread | I need MORE "it's the end of the world" pop bangers like this. Keep me dancing till the world ends! My thoughts for this weeks pop picks can be summed up by Tokyo Toni!
  17. Some people are forgetting that at one point CD Compilations costed between £15-£18, I still on own a Top Of The Pops CD with the ASDA Price sticker on it with £16.99 on it. It must cost a lot more to make these now, so they have to hike the prices back up.
  18. Wow! There's a lot of great stuff on NOW 120! Immediate thoughts: Tracks 1-7 being songs by the Pop Girls! Iconic! Brilliant! It's what we deserve! APT. is here! That follows "Gangam Style", "Gentleman", "My Universe", and "Cupid" in the K-Pop stars appearing! My favourite song of the moment "Pink Pony Club" is here! This is the first "Pony" song to appear on the Numbered NOW series! It's also the 3rd song to feature Pink the title (after Pink Cadillac on NOW 12 & Pink Friday Girls on NOW 117). P!nk & PinkPantheress have made numerous appearances, but have no songs with Pink in the name. Bed Chem! I guess Busy Woman was too late to be added? Or they think it's gonna get bigger over time? Guess is missing, but we got Apple! I guess the remix is harder to license that we thought. Tracks 11-13 are again more amazing tracks by the biggest female acts of the moment! Interesting that "Buzz" single "IT Girl" is here instead of "Fantasy", but it was bigger. Dirty Cash makes it's 2nd appearance on the NOW series, the first being on NOW 18. Technically it also appears on NOW 76 as well, as Dizzee Rascal uses it in his song "Dirtee Cash", which was then mashed up with Florence + The Machine's cover of You Got the Love at the 2010 Brit Awards (another song with multiple appearances on the NOWs) Doechii, SZA, and Tyler make fabulous holy trio from 15-17 Olivia Dean joins Geri's "It's Raining Men", Gabrielle's "Out Of Reach", Jamelia's "Stop", and Ellie Goulding's "Still Falling For You" in the list of Bridget Jones songs on the NOWs Disc 2 is... Disc 2 But The Cure make their first appearance since NOW 22's "Friday I'm In Love"! Olly Alexander, and Confidence Man are lovely inclusions! We love a Pop Bop! And I do love Filthy Rich by Ella Henderson The artist/band that has the most appearances across the whole NOW franchise on this album is Coldplay. "All My Love" is there 25th appearance since NOW 46 with Yellow. Elton John is the most featured artist on the NOW Yearbooks (including Extras) that appears here with his collab with Brandi Carlile Missing for me: Defying Gravity by Cynthia Erivo & Ariana Grande, and Guess (Remix) by Charli XCX & Billie Eilish. Missing for everyone else: Kendrick Lamar - Not Like Us
  19. I was surprised none of her Impossible Princess singles made the Yearbook/Extra either! I'm gonna act delusional and say she's being saved for "NOW Yearbook... Vault 1998". Maybe APT. might appear due to it also being a Bruno Mars song and being on Atlantic Records for its worldwide release? Clutching at straws I know.
  20. I'd love either to be announced. The 12" Collection is becoming quite a fave of mine. Especially making Remixed Pop playlists; I have one with my fave mixes from each album and it all just flows so well. As for NOW 120. I'm so excited which of our Pop Girlies/Divas make the cut. Ariana's "Defying Gravity", Chappell's "Pink Pony Club", Gaga's "Disease" & "Abracadabra", Sabrina's "Bed Chem" & "Busy Woman", JADE's "Fantasy", Tate McRae's "Sports Car", Perrie's "You Go Your Way" or maybe even "Rollercoaster". Kylie could make another appearance with her Alok collab, and I hope "Messy" and "APT." are licensable here in the UK. Some true girl power up for grabs this Volume.
  21. I'd have to go for Steps as well. Whilst their 2011/2012 reunion seemed like Sony cashing in on the name with no effort whatsoever, their 2017 comeback was completely different. So much time and effort was put into making a new album. Managing to mature, but giving the fans music that still fit the Steps repertoire. And then their stuff on BMG has (so far) a great consistency of great pop moments. Scared Of The Dark, Neon Blue, Something In Your Eyes, Heartbreak In The City sit so well between classic hits like It's The Way You Make Me Feel and Stomp. Obviously Take That take the crown for sales/success, but I've never been a fan of their MOR tracks. I do love "Up All Night", and "Said It All" though.❤️
