Kendrick Lamar & SZA’s ‘Luther’ No. 1 on Hot 100 for Sixth Week By Gary Trust | 3/31/2025 Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “Luther” rules the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart for a sixth total and consecutive week. The single, whose title fêtes late R&B icon Luther Vandross, who is sampled on the track, became Lamar’s sixth No. 1 and SZA’s third. Lamar and SZA each extend their longest career Hot 100 reigns with the song. Meanwhile, “Luther” ties Jack Harlow’s “Lovin on Me,” in 2023-24, for the longest Hot 100 command for a rap hit since 24kGoldn’s “Mood,” featuring iann dior, led for eight weeks in 2020-21. The only longer domination for a rap hit this decade: 11 weeks, for Roddy Ricch’s “The Box” in 2020. (Rap titles are defined as those that have hit or are eligible for Billboard’s Hot Rap Songs chart.) Plus, Morgan Wallen’s “Just in Case” launches at No. 4 on the Hot 100, marking the country star’s 14th top 10 – and record fifth from an album prior to its release; his I’m the Problem is due May 16 – and Chappell Roan’s “Pink Pony Club” trots to No. 5, becoming her third top five hit. “Luther,” on pgLang/Interscope/ICLG, totaled 58.3 million radio airplay audience impressions (up 4% week-over-week), 26.3 million official streams (down 6%) and 3,000 sold (down 13%) in the U.S. March 21-27. The track rebounds 3-1 for a fifth week atop the Streaming Songs chart; holds at its No. 2 high on Radio Songs; and falls 10-15, after reaching No. 4, on Digital Song Sales. “Luther” concurrently adds a 14th week at No. 1 on both the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs charts, which use the same methodology as the Hot 100. Morgan Wallen’s “Just in Case” bounds in at No. 4 on the Hot 100. Released March 21, the ballad totaled 21.3 million streams, 2.8 million in airplay audience (it’s his next single to be promoted to country radio) and 7,000 sold in its first week. The song, Wallen’s 14th Hot 100 top 10, further ushers in his fourth studio album, I’m the Problem, due May 16; his tour of the same name is set to kick off June 20. It’s his fifth song from the set (all are confirmed as on its tracklist) to hit the top 10 – breaking the record for the most Hot 100 top 10s from an album prior to its release. The track becomes the singer-songwriter’s third top five Hot 100 hit, a week after “The Giver” debuted at No. 5 (and at No. 1 on the multimetric Hot Country Songs chart). “Good Luck, Babe!” reached No. 4 on the Hot 100 last September. “Pink Pony Club” is the first top five entry from her album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess; her other two such hits are currently stand-alone singles. Elsewhere in the Hot 100’s top 10, Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ “Die With a Smile” rebounds 3-2, following five nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 beginning in January. It adds a seventh week atop Radio Songs (61.1 million, down 4%). Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” rises 6-3 on the Hot 100, following its record-tying 19 weeks at No. 1 beginning last July. It rebounds 2-1 for a 39th week atop Hot Country Songs. Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control,” which led the Hot 100 for a week in March 2024 – and became the year’s No. 1 song – ascends 12-6. It notches an 84th week on the survey overall, the fourth-longest stay in the chart’s history, below only Glass Animals’ “Heat Waves” (91 weeks, in 2021-22); The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” (90 weeks, 2019-22); and Imagine Dragons’ “Radioactive” (87 weeks, 2012-14). Rounding out the Hot 100’s top 10, Drake’s “Nokia” rises 11-7, dialing up a new high; Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things” jumps 15-8, after it reached No. 2; Lamar’s “Not Like Us” dips 8-9, following three weeks at No. 1 between last May and February; and ROSÉ and Bruno Mars’ “APT.” steps 14-10, after hitting No. 3. I absolutely adore both, but 'Stop Me' is an all-time fave If it was based on the album as a whole I'd vote t.A.T.u. - although again I love both!

Well it does something similar here, with its final week on the Multichart giving it just enough points to overtake 'Espresso' for #2 on the EOY. This isn't your typical summertime hit but proved to be an instant standout from Hit Me Hard And Soft, and it was great to hear such a bright and happy song from Billie. No stranger to being a bridesmaid, it also peaked at #2 on both sides of the pond. Okay, no prizes for guessing the #1, but just how close was it?

Playboi Carti Scores Second No. 1 on Billboard 200 With ‘MUSIC’ By Keith Caulfield | 03/23/2025 Playboi Carti captures his second No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, as his latest studio project, MUSIC, debuts atop the tally dated March 29. The set debuts with 298,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending March 20, according to Luminate. That marks the biggest week of 2025 for a rap album. It also arrives with the biggest streaming week for a rap set since 2023. Playboi Carti previously topped the chart with his last release, Whole Lotta Red, which debuted atop the ranking dated Jan. 9, 2021. MUSIC is the artist’s third top 10-charting set, as he previously visited the region with 2018’s Die Lit, which reached No. 3. Also in the top 10 of the new Billboard 200, LE SSERAFIM collects its fourth top 10-charting project, as 5th Mini Album HOT debuts at No. 9. The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units, compiled by Luminate. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album. Of MUSIC’s 298,000 first-week equivalent album units, SEA units comprise 283,000 (equaling 284 million on-demand official streams of the 30 songs on the streaming edition of the album; it debuts at No. 1 on the Top Streaming Albums chart), album sales comprise 14,500 (it debuts at No. 3 on Top Album Sales) and TEA units comprise 500. With 298,000 units earned in its first week, MUSIC lands the biggest week in 2025 for a rap album, and the second largest overall among all albums — only the debut of The Weeknd’s Hurry Up Tomorrow was bigger so far this year, when it launched with 490,000 units (Feb. 15 chart). Further, as MUSIC’s songs tallied 384 million on-demand official streams combined, that marks the biggest streaming week for any album in nearly a year, since Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department collected 428.54 million clicks for its songs in its second week (May 11, 2024, chart). MUSIC nets the largest streaming week for any rap album since Drake’s For All the Dogs debuted with 514.01 million (Oct. 21, 2023, chart). MUSIC was officially announced on Sept. 12, 2024, and went up for pre-order the same day. However, the set’s March 14 release date wasn’t announced until just two days before its arrival (March 12). MUSIC debuts on the Billboard 200 largely from streaming activity, as it was available to purchase only as a digital download — as a widely available standard 30-song set, as well as three variants exclusive to the artist’s official webstore (the variants each have between one or two bonus tracks). MUSIC will be issued on CD (across at least eight variants available to pre-order in his webstore) in the coming weeks. The album will also profit in the future from sales generated by an array of deluxe boxed sets (containing branded merch and a CD) that have been available to pre-order on his webstore since last September. Lady Gaga’s MAYHEM falls to No. 2 in its second week on the Billboard 200, earning 74,000 equivalent album units (down 66%). The next six titles on the list are all former No. 1s. Kendrick Lamar’s GNX drops 2-3 (71,000; down 13%), PARTYNEXTDOOR and Drake’s $ome $exy $ongs 4 U dips 3-4 (66,000; down 15%), SZA’s SOS slips 4-5 (62,000; down 9%), Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet is steady at No. 6 (57,000; down 7%), Tate McRae’s So Close To What falls 5-7 (52,000; down 18%) and Bad Bunny’s Debí Tirar Más Fotos is a non-mover at No. 8 (50,000; down 4%). LE SSERAFIM collects its fourth top 10-charting effort on the Billboard 200 as 5th Mini Album HOT starts at No. 9 with 45,500 equivalent album units earned. Of that sum, album sales comprise 38,500 (it debuts at No. 1 on Top Album Sales), SEA units comprise 7,000 (equaling 9.42 million on-demand streams of the five songs on the streaming edition of the album) and TEA units comprise a negligible sum. Sales of the set were bolstered by its availability across more than 20 CD variants (all containing collectible paper ephemera, some randomized). Rounding out the top 10 of the latest Billboard 200 is Morgan Wallen’s former No. 1 One Thing at a Time, which falls 9-10 with 42,000 equivalent album units earned (down 3%).

The single, whose title is a tribute to late R&B icon Luther Vandross, who is sampled on the track, became Lamar’s sixth No. 1 and SZA’s third. Both Lamar and SZA extend their longest career Hot 100 reigns with the song. Playboi Carti debuts two songs in the Hot 100’s top five: “Evil J0rdan,” at No. 2, and “Rather Lie,” with The Weeknd, at No. 4. The tracks are from his new album, MUSIC, which soars in at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Given the sonic turn of “The Giver” from Chappell Roan’s budding catalog of pop offerings, the track debuts at No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart, marking her first appearance on the ranking. Notably, “Anxiety” prominently samples Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know” (featuring Kimbra), which crowned the Hot 100 for eight weeks in 2012. (That hit drew 5 million streams and 4.9 million in airplay audience in the latest tracking frame.) Elsewhere in the Hot 100’s top 10, Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ “Die With a Smile” dips 2-3, following five nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 beginning in January. It notches a seventh week atop Radio Songs (63.9 million, up 2%). Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” drops 4-6 on the Hot 100, following its record-tying 19 weeks at No. 1 beginning last July.
