JADE is back with 'Before You Break My Heart', which IIRC wasn't even an official single, but did have a viral moment and a music video helping it go all the way to #5 on the Multichart. Tate McRae's 'Revolving door' rounds out this section, with its matching #9 peaks on the Multichart and the official chart.

20. Olivia Dean "Let Alone The One You Love" This is exceptionally high for a song that was never officially a single. I was first introduced to 'Let Alone The One You Love' when Olivia performed it on Saturday Night Live, and it blew me away. The next time I heard it was on a college radio station, which gave me a chance to pretend it actually was a single, and there was no turning back after that. We are almost not worthy of a voice like hers It'd be even higher if I'd discovered it earlier in the year! As a former Adele stan, this song is worthy of comparing to anything on 21 or 25, and now I just want to hear the two of them sing together. 19. Sombr "Undressed" While I loved 'Undressed' from first listen, it did bother me that it was getting more attention than the superior 'Back To Friends'. But then it became one of the most-played songs on my summer road trip, because it happened to coincide with its airplay peaks in Canada AND the US (and I was in a rental car relying on radio stations from both countries), so that was how it fully won me over. I am just in awe of how quickly and effortlessly Sombr carved out his own musical style, and just smashed it right out of the gate, all at the age of 19. The lyrics are worth some praise as well! 18. Morgan Wallen "Love Somebody" Another repeat entry! 'Love Somebody' was released in October 2024, was an instant hit for me, reaching #23 in my previous EOY. Then it became my first #1 of the year back in January, so it would feel wrong not to include it again. I love its mix of sounding summery and sad at the same time. It was only just recently I noticed the verses having a similar melody to the chorus of 'Training Season', and I'm sure that familiarity helped too! This would certainly be higher if it wasn't split between two years, but Morgan has one more song to come. Skye Newman "Family Matters" Skye's breakthrough single 'Hairdresser' didn't do much for me (I remember thinking "Is she a low-budget Lola Young?"), so 'Family Matters' took me by surprise when I first heard it. I can't relate to the theme or lyrics at all, but the vocals and melody drew me in, and before long I was hooked. In fact, it was my personal chart #1 in July, and even that's from only listening to the heavily-edited clean version. I'm not super optimistic about how Skye's music will do long-term, even after winning Sound Of 2026, but either way I'll stand by this song and I rather liked 'FU & UF' too. Also, I'm reliably informed that she's not related to John Newman… 16. Sombr "12 To 12" '12 To 12' was part three of an impossibly good debut trifecta from then-19-year-old Sombr. He's making me jealous of how untalented and unsuccessful I was at that age. I think most people compared this song to Tame Impala, but for me I was first reminded of Dua Lipa, particularly 'Don't Start Now'. But the biggest highlight will always be the lyric, "We met in a Paris café," unintentionally referencing an iconic Jameela Jamil quote – every time she played 'Prayer In C', she'd introduce it by saying "Lilly Wood is not just one person, they're a duo that met in a Parisian café." You probably had to be there to appreciate it :lol: 15. MK feat. Chrystal "Dior" 'The Days' fell just short of my EOY; it grew on me quite a bit, although I strongly prefer the original over the Notion remix, which I know is a hot take! Just when it seemed Chrystal would be a one-hit wonder, an unexpected collab appears from her and MK. I'm still not sure what it is about 'Dior', but I was quickly obsessed and couldn't turn the volume up loud enough. It was my monthly #1 for June, just before it hit #1 in the UK which was incredible – one of my favorite #1s of the year! 14. Sienna Spiro "Die On This Hill" 'Die On This Hill' was my first introduction to Sienna Spiro as her earlier singles passed me by, but it was well worth the wait. I was taken aback by her vocals and especially the chorus. It felt like an old-fashioned Q4 hit if you remember how many ballads were in the charts in November and December. It was a rare two-month #1 in my chart, the first once since Dua Lipa's 'Houdini' two years prior. Somehow it has even made the top 20 on Billboard with minimal airplay; I still haven't heard it on proper radio yet but hoping I'll get to soon! 13. Sabrina Carpenter "Manchild" Despite being this high, believe it or not, my first impression of 'Manchild' was less than favorable; it sounded to me like she was trying to copy Chappell Roan rather than be herself. After repeated listens, it grew on me massively, oops! The video certainly helped a lot, I almost have no words to describe the video. I'm slightly concerned for whoever came up with it. Previous EOY history: "Thumbs" (#24, 2017), "Why" (#25, 2017), "Espresso" (#2, 2024), "Feather" (#47, 2024), "Taste" (#55, 2024), "Please Please Please" (#61, 2024) 12. Ravyn Lenae "Love Me Not" I didn't realize until recently that Ravyn's been at it for over a decade now, with her first Buzzjack Song Contest appearance being in 2015! 'Love Me Not' is the first song of hers I've really liked, simply too catchy to resist. I'm happy for her finally having a breakthrough after all this time! I'll hope she can get a second hit too, maybe in less than 10 years this time. 11. Jessie Murph "Blue Strips" BOYIAIN'TMAD, BOYIAIN'TMAD, BOYIAIN'TMADATCHU. 2025 was also a breakthrough year for Jessie Murph, who until now was better known for her features, especially in the US with Diplo, Jelly Roll and Koe Wetzel. In the past she has described herself as a genre-less artist, which I've always found interesting and seemingly accurate for her. 'Blue Strips' commands your attention from the word go, full of urgency, attitude and catchiness. It's very repetitive but not in a bad way; my only complaint was that it's way too short, but the replay value was very high. Very curious that it missed the UK chart entirely!

Not a trio I would've ever predicted on a song together, but it did the job with five weeks at #3 on the Multichart and more longevity than it had on the official chart. Sam Fender's late 2024 release 'People Watching' peaked at #2 on the first chart of 2025 and is his highest-placed song in this EOY, even with some of its chart weeks counting to 2024. Sombr's 'undressed' had a higher peak than 'back to friends' but you'll notice this one's the first one of his to drop out, due to a much shorter chart run. Chappell Roan went country last spring with 'The Giver' and it had a solid run here, with three weeks at #2 and #42 on the EOY. Last in this section we have Taylor Swift's current single and the UK's current #1 (for a few more hours anyway) 'Opalite'; it spent 5 weeks at #5 but has since climbed to a higher peak of #3 on the Multichart!

Semi 1 would normally be such a favorable draw for me with those countries...if only I knew this before I decided NOT to send a pop entry this time I'm still excited about my switch-up this month though. A very rare instrumental from me! I'm in the same boat and tbf I think it's better to not know any of the songs. Even playing field!

I forgot to post my thoughts last week! Was really hoping for Olivia to get to #1 with her Grammys boost but having a female country #1 is a huge achievement for Ella, I still can hardly believe it! Also it's gonna be very strange for 'The Great Divide' to be Noah's highest-charting song in the US since 'Stick Season' only peaked at #9.

Cole claims his seventh No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 as his new studio album, The Fall-Off, opens atop the list dated Feb. 21. The set launches with 280,000 equivalent album units earned in the United States in the week ending Feb. 12, according to Luminate. That marks the largest week for any R&B or hip-hop album in nearly a year, since Playboi Carti’s MUSIC opened at No. 1 with 298,000 (March 29, 2025-dated chart). (R&B/hip-hop and R&B albums are defined as those that have hit or are eligible for Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and Top R&B Albums charts, respectively.) J. Cole previously hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with The Off-Season (2021), KOD (2018), 4 Your Eyez Only (2016), 2014 Forest Hills Drive (2014), Born Sinner (2013) and Cole World: The Sideline Story (2011). Bad Bunny’s ‘DtMF’ Touches Down at No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100 After Super Bowl Halftime Show By Gary Trust | 2/17/2026 Bad Bunny’s “DtMF” hits No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the superstar’s second leader on the list, and first on his own. He previously reigned with “I Like It,” with Cardi B and J Balvin, for a week in July 2018. “DtMF” blitzes 10-1 on the Hot 100 following Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl LX halftime show spotlight Feb. 8 in Santa Clara, Calif., with “DtMF” the closing song in the set. (Notably, Bad Bunny has performed both of his Hot 100 No. 1s at the midpoint of the NFL championship game: he guested on “I Like It” during Shakira’s Super Bowl LIV halftime show in 2020.) Highest new entry is Sombr, 'Homewrecker' is currently is only chart entry to miss the top 10, but could certainly climb there soon to continue his streak. 'Dracula' also gets a new peak, was originally #40 and now it's #39 *.* On the album chart, J. Cole's #1 streak ends after three consecutive chart-toppers. Without seeing sales figures, hard to say if it's a weak debut for him, or Olivia's just too strong, or a mix of both. Bad Bunny is #4 on this chart as well, a substantial new peak for him. Joji's last two albums peaked at #2 and #3 but this one settles for a #10 debut. And Lorde just had her tour dates in NZ which explains her climb from #32 to #14.

I still listen to a lot of radio, although not as much as I did as a kid. Especially when I'm driving, I still prefer radio as a nice break from listening to my usual playlists at home. My go-to is a college radio station with a wildly unpredictable playlist, I appreciate the mix of discoveries and "I forgot this song existed!" throwback moments. I also listen to a couple alternative stations here that are both passionate about music and good radio. As for online radio, I alternate between a station in Africa that I found several years ago, BBC Radio 1 (these days I only seem to tune in for the chart show and First Look), and old 2000s chart shows on Mixcloud.
